On any other surfaces most of those shots from Roger would have been winners, the backhand was actually doing very well. But this is Chatrier at the French Open, and at Chatrier, the laws of physics bow to Rafael Nadal. That being said, if Roger keeps this up he has a very good chance at Wimbledon this year. Djokovic can beat nadal at RG again. He has done it in 2015. That's why among that big 3, I admire more Djokovic bc he works so hard, changed even his diet to surpass Federer and nadal. Federer has probably 7 grand slams that he won against mediocre players bc the competition was weak back then.
Rafa has a lifetime record of 92-2 at the French Open (97.9% winning pct.) which is ridiculous. The last 9 winners of the men's Grand Slam events were Federer, Nadal, Federer, Nadal, Federer, Nadal, Djokovic, Djokovic, Djokovic.

Nadal doesn't need to be in beast mode to win clay matches. As long as he's not injured, even if he is not in form, he can still easily win any clay match.
It’s funny how Federer can’t even seem to give Rafa a challenge on clay but on any other surface he can school him just like Rafa does him on clay. It’s amazing how different the surfaces are and how players tend to play better on specific ones. Federer grass and fast, and Rafa slow and clay.

Crappy conditions but Rafa was just too good.
Crappy conditions for Rafa too.

@@nsebast Nope. they definitely favoured him a lot more. Federer's 1st serve was neutralised very well by the winds
I don't understand people blaming the wind for roger's loss; as if rafa was playing elsewhere. Whereas whenever nadal lost in madrid over the years and he mentions(not blames) that the windy conditions played a part, everybody lashes at him saying oh there it is again kneedull with the excuses or any other stupid response but now all of a sudden it's the other way around. The guy is a monster of a tennis player and the GOAT on clay without a shadow of a doubt ( better than borg in my opinion and yes i've actually seen borg play) so plug your brain in and show some respect.
exactly!! no wind means it's sunny out there, a condition where Nadal thrives. It'd be much worse for Fedex tbh... but he did play great
Who is giving that excuse?
Federer knew how to adapt to the blue clay in 2012, just like Nadal could adapt to the wind today.
@@ezscootrr look through any comments about this match and you'll see deluded fed fans claiming the wind made him lose
I think that Fed game is more impacted by wind, mostly on his backhand. But even without wind, Nadal would have win, he is unplayable at RG :)
Pretty incredible seeing these two play. Wish we got to see it more. Rafa absolutely dominant on clay, roger slight edge on other court surfaces. As a Federer fan, sure I am a little sad about the loss but you can never be truly upset with losses to someone as skilled and classy as Rafa, particularly on clay where hes nearly unbeatable.
Nadal 3-1 record at ao
Serving at 4-4 40-0 in the 2nd set, Roger was broken. Roger didn't play bad and he should've beaten other players in straight sets today.
In the set 1 and 2 he lost 7/9 to the advantages... if he had used more opportunities, maybe he could have won both sets.
In the third he clearly gave up.
Yeah he was nervous or just had flashbacks of the other times he played Nadal because his first serve was almost nonexistent but he hit some pretty good backhand shots
Federico Ostinelli lol roger would never give up, he just ran out of ideas on what to do
RF didn't attack the net more often like he used to play recently. if he did that, I think he has more chances of winning
@@George182HD Did you watch the match? I'm a huge Roger fan, but in the third set he was really demoralized, because he knew that winning the match would have been impossible after losing set 1 and 2... so he "mentally" gave up.

Federer honestly played a very good match, but what was opposite that net was just something out of this world. Absolutely insane. That was just something special.

It’s funny how Federer can’t even seem to give Rafa a challenge on clay but on any other surface he can school him just like Rafa does him on clay. It’s amazing how different the surfaces are and how players tend to play better on specific ones. Federer grass and fast, and Rafa slow and clay.
Tbf until 2017 it was pretty even on hard courts too. Nadal arguably had an edge on outdoor hcs. But that's because they're similar to clay
@@kakashihatake1029 Nadal was a really bad matchup for Fed.
