    now Beretta sounds like a company that has actually listened to what people want and produced a product (the compact px4) with the upgrades to actually encourage people to want this particular model. so many other pistol companies do not seem to get this.

    This is a prime example of why these kinds of videos are so useful. I was going to have the Langdon Tactical conversion on my PX4 full size. I do not like the standard decocking levers and was going to go with the suggested stealth levers that are part of the conversion package. However, after watching Chris' demonstration of the difficulty with the stealth levers, I followed his lead and chose the 92 style lever on the left, leaving the stealth lever on the right. Great decision! It substantially lowers the profile of the levers making the overhand grip for racking gouge-free, but the 92 lever is much more user-friendly. With a DA/SA handgun, where one wants to put in a lot of practice on the double action, having a smooth and easy decocker promotes that practice. The Langdon conversion makes the firearm better. One of the reasons I went with it is the simple fact that I trust and respect Chris' opinion. He didn't steer me wrong with the conversion and he definitely steered me in the right direction with the suggestion on the decocking lever. Pay attention RUclips. Firearm category video's educate viewers, make us all better users and custodians of firearms, and ultimately make the citizenry safer. Thanks Chris.

    For the money, I converted my Px4 .40 cal Storm Compact to G type and changed the spring to improve the trigger. I added a Hogue grip cover and it works just fine. I left my old style safefy levers after the G type mod since they didn't bother me as they were. Works great and a good carry.

    I have the original compacts. Both 9mm and 40sw. But the compact carry comes with a right-hand only slide release. And Beretta doesn't offer a low profile left-handed slide release lever.
    I love the way the PX4 compact functions though! And they keep finding their way into the holster on my hip. No matter what I pick up and say "this is my new carry gun, it'll replace my Beretta". Nope. Beretta ends up in my holster again and again.

    This is the gun I've been looking for, a DA/SA carry gun with a respectable capacity. Love my p365, but after so much time with my p226, I really prefer a hammer fired, DA/SA pistol. This Px4 is perfect.

      I've been carrying a slightly modified PX4 Inox Compact for years... you will not be disappointed! The PX4 is a phenomenal pistol and terribly underrated. If you pick one up, I recommend making at least one change: a hammer spring swap. Swapping out the hammer spring is something ANYONE can do and takes just minutes to complete. It's also dirt cheap and makes a YUGE impact - significantly reducing trigger pull weight and making the first DA shot a pleasure to train with. I cannot understate how much difference this swap makes to the PX4. :)

    Chris, it's funny that you and I both did the exact same thing with the adhesive grips on our PX4's! I had also trimmed out the front and rear grip areas to expose the grip's original texture. The problem I had, though, was that the grip tape tended to shift around after I cut it up. Actually, it started to shift so much that I decided to get rid of it. My solution? I cut up an old 26x2.0 bike inner tube and slid a small section of the tube over the grip. I love it! And it didn't cost me anything.

    i replaced the hammer spring (in about ten minutes) with a wilson 12# spring. the double action trigger is 8#, and the single action trigger is 3#. their have been no problems or light strikes. the cost is about $15.00. this was recommended on a youtube video, and makes a great gun even better.

    Great underrrated pistol. It's almost as small as a sub but still you have a 15 rds mag. And I think that the rotating barrell really does what it's supposed to do: reduce recoil. Besides it's pretty heavy for being so small, the slide is pretty thick and I personally like that, it feels you have something consitent in your hands and reduces recoil. I just love it.

    Having a full size Storm in .40 S&W, it was a natural to go to a Sub Compact in the same caliber for my ccw. I'm making several similar mods my SC, starting with the levers, main spring, and talon side panels.

  • @somedude1281
    @somedude1281 6 лет назад +3

    Wow. I didn't realize this model had such support. I've been looking to switch over to an autoloader for carry... what has held me back is that I couldn't get behind striker fired autoloaders for ccw; I just feel that they are an accidental discharge waiting to happen - what between re-holstering and the often overlooked draw but don't fire scenario. Beretta has seemed to have done well here. All of that aftermarket support and what you get out of the box seems quite awesome.

    I love this gun but for width and concealability I went with the XD-E and surprise, surprise Langdon Tactical makes a trigger package for that, too. It's apples and oranges but I was so happy that a company released a thin SA/DA that I had to jump on it. I carry the XD-E every day doing A/C in SW Florida in a Stealthgear appendix holster. That all being said, I still want this pistol.

    Excellent review, Chris. I concur with installing the 92 series levers as they work very well, and I no longer worry about raking my hand over the stock levers. As I have never felt comfortable with grip tape of any make, I had my PX4 stippled. With no draw interference and a solid purchase, it was a worthwhile investment.

    this review, as well as several others, are what convinced me to buy the PX4CC (9mm).
    While I bought it used, I had it out today for its maiden voyage with me.
    125 rds through with -0- malfunctions. I was able to run about 75 rds of crap aluminum case without a hiccup when my SA 9mm and Beretta Nano couldn’t pull off more than 2 rds without a malfunction. Sights are good and the biggest issue for me is the DA/SA trigger.
    My precious duty guns have typically been striker, my previous CCW was either a SAO or DA revolver.
    The LONG initial DA pull took some getting used to as did the light SA follow up.
    Recoil was more than I expected (after having listened to others) but still very manageable.
    I’m very pleased with my CCW purchase and am looking forward to putting more rds down range as I learn the DA/SA skill set.

Only thing I still don’t like about this is the long DA trigger pull and the wide grip, taking me extra time to fix my grip (at least my hands are big to the point it really isn’t difficult to grasp). I love the look of this and this is why I chose to rent it in my mid 20s.

    I put grip tape for steps by 3M. Its a little thick, but my extra large hands with large back strap works great. I tried "sharp" shipping and found it a little slick for dry carpenter hands.....just my 2 cents.

    Nice review, but I kinda disagree on bigger decocker, why do you need to decock fast?

    • @LuckyGunner
      @LuckyGunner  7 лет назад +6

      +Sergey Rodionov A DA/SA gun should be decocked every time the sights come off the target. In a practice session, that's a lot of decocking and I would prefer to not have to break my firing grip to do it.

    I also decock with support hand on guns other than sig's. Its impossible to strong side decock with some CZ levers and the rear mounted HK button. Support side just makes sense for many guns.

    Excellent review! I also own this pistol which I use for home defense. I wanted it to be my EDC, but the slippery grip (even though with the Tallo grips) was not good enough compared to my Sig P229 Legion 9mm. I recently bought the “Pachmayr Tactical Rubber Grip Glove for Beretta PX4 Storm 05160” and it feels much better grip purchase ( I recommend it.) I believe the PX4 Compact Carry could be better all around than my P229 Legion if it wouldn’t have the slippery grip from factory.

    Great review! I have a full size PX4 Type G LE demo w/ Trijicon night sights in 40 S&W I recently installed the stealth decockers. I pack the 140 gr Barnes TAC-XPD ammo and a Wintrhrop pancake style leather OWB holster. I use lightweight bullets to save weight and enhance control for EDC. The PX4 is a bit too thick in width for me for IWB concealed carry, so I use it OWB in fall and winter months. Overall I love it. With soft recoil I can shoot all day with no fatigue.

    Great review thank you Sir. My PX4 compact has the low profile slide stop & stealth levers. I decock using thumb & forefinger. I installed the Wilson spring & Talon rubber grips. With the right AIWB holster it's concealable & comfortable. Awesome gun to shoot! I just need more money for the Trijicon night sights & maybe cerakote the slide. Very confidence inspiring pistol.

    Yep they do. Beretta hasn't been around for as long as they have without listening to their customers. The 92's are still in service. Contractors going overseas still look for a weapon that's reasonably priced. Easy to maintain and reliable. Tried and true. Like it or not.

    Chris, I always enjoy your professional content and information. I hope you will continue to review pistols, especially hammer models. I originally was awaiting your review on the Px4 CC when Springfield came out with their new XD-E... and it has the amazing grip of the mod 2. Now I am resorting to begging for you to have a comparison with the XD-E.
    You have much more experience with Hammer fired pistols as well as the professional presentation you have on youtube. Something many firearms reviewers lack.

      You cannot go wrong with the XD-E. I carried an XD-S because I drank the striker fired koolaid. However took a class from Spencer Keepers and the DA/SA. Now have a PX4 Storm Compact Carry.

    Agree 100% with you, it's an amazing gun. Instead of cutting the grips it comes with try the Tractiongrips you can find on Amazon. It has that same nice grip you want but without it covering the back of the grip, thus no trimming.

      It's Kyuu How do you like the XDE? I have been debating between it and the PX4. Right now I carry a double action Walther and I want something different.

    • @itskyyuuuu
      @itskyyuuuu 7 лет назад +1

      Nicholas Schumacher well px4 holds 5 more shots and is probably more comfortable in the hand. That being said my XDE is very accurate even at 25 yards i was very surprised. I like the internals they chose and i got it with a rebate sending me 4 free magazines. If between regular px4 and xde then go xde. If between xde and compact carry px4.. then get compact carry.

    • @LuckyGunner
      @LuckyGunner  7 лет назад

      Px4 Compact capacity is 6 or 7 shots greater than the XDe, depending on which XDe magazine is used.

      I'm not a reviewer but my Storm has eaten all of the crappiest ammo I fed through it, if that says anything. Also I had to try really hard to get a failure to eject. I was kinda messing around, but even if I limp wrist it then it never fails. Also, I really don't clean it like I should. Basically I'm not a good firearm owner, but the Storm is forgiving haha.

    Have carried a px4 subcompact for over 5 years, a little big with the double stack clip, but the 13+1 is a good thing to have if shit hits the fan

  • @LYLEWOLD
    @LYLEWOLD 7 лет назад

    i went with the stealth levers, de-cock only. using my support hand, i just pinch the levers between my thumb and forefinger and push down. not having those torture wings is worth the trade off of an extra moment to de-cock. and yeah, that frame texture was a big reason why i didn't jump on a px-4 years back.

    I really love this gun. Every time I shoot it I feel like I'm cheating on my 92s with their younger sister, some guilt but it carries easier and I flat out shoot it better, if I buy a handgun this year it's going to be another PX4CC.

    If they are able to get the DA near 8 lbs, they should make a DAO version and bypass any issue on the levers. I was always fond of my 92D Centurion. Unfortunately, i cannot get a PX4 until i move to a free state. They are not on the Kalifornia "safety roster".

    Glad the 9mm Storms work. I teach at a police academy and a very large agency ran PX4 Storms in .40 for several years. They were fragile and broke so often that in one class, the department armorer had to drive spare parts up to the academy during range week. I'm a Beretta fan, but the .40 PX4 was not their brightest shining moment.

    There's a very simple way to lighten the factory trigger; just trim a couple coils off of the hammer spring. Careful not to go too far or you'll end up with too little power and get light primer strikes.

    Orange ( & red) sights are a throwback from ‘60s & ‘70s handgun fashion. These are the worst colors to discern in lowlight conditions. Red turns to black and orange to charcoal. The last colors your eye can discern in low light are green and blue. You’ll notice that emergency services, highway workers, motorcyclists and so many other are adopting that fluorescent lime-green for their vests, clothing and their vehicles. I had a beautiful custom Colt Combat Commander decades ago and one of the modification I had done was to convert the front sight to green ramp - much better at night & lowlight.
    I applaud Tritium and passives fiber optics (which do nothing in poor light) and endorse these methods. I am surprised at so many makers providing orange/red front sights.

  • @ShreddedWheat305

    I bought based on reviews and feel. It is light weight but that is a disadvantage to smaller hands and smaller people unless you are a powerlifter/bodybuilder. I changed out the grips to more fit my hand. When I went to the range the 1st shot was alright but the recoil being so much and all over the place was horrible and my follow-up shots were way off target. I think this gun is great if you have bigger hands and are a strong individual. I shot 50 rounds and look forward to selling it in the future. My 2 cents.

    • @scooter5940
      @scooter5940 2 года назад

      I had this particular model and sold it. I also have smaller hands but not sure that was a factor. Real great shooting pistol, but it just didn’t serve a purpose for me. Was just too chunky to be a carry gun compared to the rest of my rotation, and I didn’t need another nightstand gun. I really did want a DA/SA for carry at times, though, so I essentially replaced with with an H&K p30sk. Kinda ugly, too. But again, a fine pistol.
