    This is legit the way to learn quickly and effectively. It's taking the principles of drawing from a reference to understand a subject so you can learn the anatomy of the style. Do it enough times and it becomes ingrained in your skull. I literally do this every time I want to tackle unfamiliar mediums, styles, subjects... everything. Pissed off my friends by drawing galloping horse from scratch after a month of study.

    I have a question about this particular exercise. I first learned of this from John Kricfalusi blog and found it has helped a lot. But how many times would you say to break down a single reference and fix the mistakes you make, or should you one and done it?

    • @grimreaper9350
      @grimreaper9350 4 года назад +36

      I would do it once, compare and fix any mixtakes, then move onto another reference, then once I went through a few more studies (over a couple of weeks) I would revisit the ones I felt the weakest with and redo them to see if I've improved with them.

    • @jassie138
      @jassie138 4 года назад +5

      I think it will be more useful to do it once per reference. So break a reference down, analyze mistakes, move onto the next reference with the info you gained from the previous breakdown.
