We called my mother’s mother, Nonnie. She was from Calabria and her husband, Sicily. I took an Italian class and learned that the proper word for grandmother is Nona! I loved hearing that you are Nonnie. 💖
luv u lydia . i make these recipes with my 88 yr young mama . She has her own recipes but they are in her head ...so i put on your videos and it comes back to her. i have made the pasta fazul so many times i may not have to watch and pause and watch and pause. blessings
Thank you for explaining so well the what and why of the steps that you are doing. I love what you cook and you make me feel like I am in a good friend's kitchen! Love Lorenzo and your Mom, too!!
You don’t know how this brings back Good memories of my family during the high Holidays and all the Fine cooking going on in many kitchen coming together as a family gathering.
I remember watching her and Maryann is the Italian Chefs!!! Jacques and Julia is the French Chefs!!! I from NY so they was on PBS channel. Her grandkids is all grown now!
Oh Lidia, what a beautiful walk down memory lane with Lorenzo. He is a beautiful boy and I'm certain a gorgeous man now. Thank you for the wonderful meatball recipe. I love watching your recipes.
I love it when the little kidlets come in to "help." Short attention span, brutal honesty. So cute! Plus, here you can hear Lorenzo playing with the meat scoop and flour off camera...clicky, clicky, clicky!
Your cooking is Fantastic Lidia. I love your videos for sure. I must say that you look radiant on this video (on all videos) your makeup is superb. You are beautiful inside and out.
Lidia I know you are a believer in the "Circle of Life" as I've heard you mention it. I had been watching your lockdown shows and was thinking what a wonderful job Lorenzo does as cameraman. On another show he said his favorite dish was one Nonna Mima made and even though I used to watch your show on PBS, I never saw Lorenzo when her was so little and soooo stinkin cute! Your family are so blessed to have each other and we are so blessed that you share them with us. Holding you all in my heart at this tough time, Lorenzo and Julia and Ethan and Olivia and Miles, Tanya and Joe, you Lidia, and the strong beautiful happy spirit of your amazing mother.
This is the sweetest, most lovely video ever. Your grandson was so small and such a darling little tyke! The pasta and meatballs look pretty good, too!!! Love you Lidia. 👍👍
Yes! My grandma also added chicken to her gravy. Meat balls; pigs feet/knuckle; chicken. They absorb the gravy and are so so good. The only way I will eat pigs feet, soaked/swollen with tomato flavor. I love watching you cook. I am 1/2 Croatian, 1/4 Sicilian, 1/4 Spanish.
This looks so good. I know know what a sugo is as apposed to a sauce. The French say to "Pincer" their tomato sauce to caramelize it. It means "pinch!"
wow, I actually remember when this aired in 1998 (I believe) and I watched it with my maternal grandma. she also taught me how to cook, but we made swedish meatballs. so many wonderful memories. thanks for sharing ❤
Omg your grandson is so handsome the way he rolled the meatballs he should be a chef I'm so excited for him congratulations to you and him he so adorable awwwwwww
I would make this dish however the meat I’d use would halaal HMC no sausages for me. So would it work with chicken or beef mince. lovely recepie thanks
I've been watching my queen for many years this is sooooooo old yeah now you could almost guess my age must I say my grave&meatballs are award winning no shit Lidia is queen
Well, I didn’t know it was an extremely local stores like ShopRite. I’ve never seen it in the southeast. Ever since the pandemic, I’m now getting used to just ordering 20 pound industrial bagged and boxed spaghetti at $2/lb from a spaghetti factory in Montana that was built beside and extremely clear, fine source of natural water and then simply brought next door to make the pasta with. There really is a difference between this restaurant style quality spaghetti and store brand pasta. You can’t even get me to eat Ronzoni or muellers anymore even in a pinch, as I never liked it, and now I hate it even more. Certain shapes of it are made from grain stored quite poorly at the facilities that the bugs lay their eggs in there for so long and then decide to hatch once they get to your house. If you do that once to an Italian family, they never give you an opportunity to do it again! I would certainly love to grab a few boxes of Lydia pasta and give them a whirl. Maybe even some of that Lidia sauce for even greater emergencies. It’s already frustrating enough trying to find Grana Padano cheese. So many of Lidia’s culinary enterprises are up north that I don’t think they’re coming here anytime soon.
This video must be far older than it's recent upload. The Lidia's in Pittsburgh restaurant she mentions is permanently closed. Too bad, as I never got a chance to go there.
Love it! I'm from Pittsburgh but have lived in Atlanta for 26 years. I will actually be moving back to Pittsburgh in the next 8 months! Why did you close the Pittsburgh location? :O(
Your grandson is definitely going to be a chef..the way he rolled the meatballs...amazing for his age🤗. God bless him ❣️

I remember this episode from years ago. I have made this recipe several times. It is delicious.
This looks so good. I know know what a sugo is as apposed to a sauce. The French say to "Pincer" their tomato sauce to caramelize it. It means "pinch!"
Thank you for asking that! I wanted to know the definition of sugo too.
This Cavatappi with Sugo and Meatballs recipe looks so delicious 😋 Chef Lidia and Lorenzo.

I've been buying her spaghetti pasta when they're on sale at the ShopRite I love it

I love this woman. My only critique is that I would leave the lid off the pot so the sauce has a chance to reduce some.
This video must be far older than it's recent upload. The Lidia's in Pittsburgh restaurant she mentions is permanently closed. Too bad, as I never got a chance to go there.
I was going to comment what a great age Lorenzo is and I just read he rexently graduated college lol. Wow.
