- Part 6: Getting our Plymouth Valiant one step closer to being back on the road, working through a few issues, but in the end it only took a warm day and time to get this '62 Signet 200 running again, after a few decades.
We love this little early a-body Mopar we pulled from a barn at a junkyard.

slant 6, can't kill them, one of the most reliable engines ever designed
After daily driving my '61 Valiant for EIGHT straight years, with only 145,000 miles on it, the 170 /6 put a window in the side of my engine block going 35 MPH on my way home from work with NO warning. No knocking, no nothing. Just, BOOM!
I had a 61 4door. Dad had it then I had it then my brother had it then a friend had it. What a great car.
Cool car haven't seen one in that great of shape and a two door in a long time.
Good job getting it running and driving.
Thanks 👍
Nice to see your daughter interested in the car...
As a teen in High school a good friend had a 63. Man the hours we had cruising in that car...
Nice Dart! My dad had a 1962 valiant. We use to travel to Pennsylvania twice a year in it.
Wow- a coupe in good shape!
Amazing how nice the seats are, even if the floors is terrible. Nice seats are so rare is "finds".
I like those years and I like the station wagons with 3 on the column
My older brother had one of these cars. I always loved the unusual design of the body. Very Cool
Agreed.
Your 71 Dart was beautiful. That car shape sold in the South Africa as the Valiant Regal.
My first car was a 62 Valiant. Had a bad motor. I replaced it with a 225. Three on the tree changed to on the floor. Fun car!!!!
On the floor is always more fun, 3 or 4 speed!
Lucky man, Beautiful car.🥰
Thank you very much.
Nice old Plymouth ❤
as a mechanic in the early 70`s i loved working on slant 6 Chryslers .. i could change out an engine in about an hour and never have to go under the vehicle .. every fastener could be removed from the top ..
I love the cars you pick! I had a Canadian built, titled a 1964 Plymouth Valiant, it was, 1/2 Dodge Dart from front doors back, 1/2 Plymouth Valiant Hood and front fenders, { It also was a right hand drive, wish I had it today! } slant six, 4 door Black with red interior. I got all sort of looks while driving that car. I bought a lot of cars back in the 60's, ? 200 dollar cars, 58 Dodge, 61 Plymouth, 54 Plymouth, 48 Dodge, ect ect ect. Packed them in old barn my dad had. Made money on most, sold parts, I didn't have skills to work on them much. But your cars brought back memories. Thank you! I watched every episode.
Wow, some great cars you had over the years. We have a '58 Dodge as well. Canadian cars were a mix of Plymouth/Dodge, I don't recall why, but made for some interesting cars. We just picked up another car today!
That has a great sounding starter!
NO it does not!!
I had a 1962 Dodge dart with the same slant motor, it is a beauty to work on that engine.
We have a 62 Dart as well, a tone of work in rust repair but worth it.
Wonderful cars the Slant 6 was an attempt to put a Big 6 cylinder motor in a small Car it worked well it was really a Truck motor that could spin and could drive at 90 mph all day i did this going from LA to Las Vegas and San Francisco a number of times and was OK on gas for the 1960s and 70s
can't wait to see the build...
Recalls my father driving his used Valiant wagon, with that push button transmission, back in 1973...
Definitely a keeper. Good luck with the MoPar brakes (!) There's a '62 Valiant sdn in local j-yd I'll have to look into.
The 60-62 Dodge Lancer and Plymouth Valiant are not very common, and not well liked, which is good for us because they're a lot cheaper!
My go to tool for cutting rubber hose is PVC cutters...makes life so easy.
So very true, I think I knew that at some point and it was pushed out of my brain.
the trick to removing plugs in tight spaces is to use a length of 3/8 rubber fuel line as a swivel extension...granted the threads allow. 3/8 fuel line typically fits over the plug end like a spark plug boot.
I haven’t seen that body style in years i’ll say one thing though slant sixes they run forever in that 70s Dart was a beautiful car
My first car $50 was a 66 Belvedere with a slant six in the 70's. When it hit the 20 belows all the new cars in the neighborhood would not start. The ol' slant six fired up on the second crank. I'd drive around and jump everybody. On a windy snowy night i'd have to shovel the car out, literally. I'd open the door and the snow would be over the seat up to the wheel. Aw..... college those were the good old days, eh? (NOT).
How cool I just bought one its blue too
I hope your daughter gets to take it to work..it fits her👍🏾
😁Now that car, has personality! 👍
We think so too!
My first car was a 62 Valiant 100 4dr.
Disconnect the battery positive cable and hook up an ammeter to the clamp and post. See if there's a drain. If so, disconnect the alternator positive lead. If the drain drops, it's the alternator. Hook up an ohmmeter to the alternator positive terminal and case and see if the reading is high and reverse the leads and see if it's low. If so, the diodes are good. Set the ammeter for ma and check for a parasitic drain with the test leads hooked up to the battery positive clamp and post. If so, pull fuses. If the drain drops, there's a drain. Check for blown fuses. With the alternator positive lead hooked up, disconnect the field terminal and hook up a jumper from the positive terminal to field terminal. Start the engine. See if the voltage reading reads 15 at the battery indicating that the alternator brushes are good. If not, it's the regulator. Check a repair manual to make sure the information is correct. A Holly 1945 and 1946 can be used. One has the remote choke and the other has the choke on the exhaust manifold. The remote choke is on a Ford 3.3 -200 1983 Marquis. The water pump has 2 gaskets. There's a clear fuel filter. The needle valve is external. Remove the filter and line. Unscrew the needle valve. Fuel will come out. Screw the new one in. You may can get Champion N16Y plugs. The bands are adjustable after removing the pan. There may be a kickdown adjustment.
She would like to take it to school! If it is gone, you know who took it!
That is cool car I like it
Hope cleaned holes before out!!
Cool car
Thank you! Great little driver.
Brakes are good.
These plugs and distributors were not easy to work on. Beautiful engines.
So it is not just me, thank you.
The distributor gear may be plastic.
Por el sonido que tiene Regula las valvulas
During an era where Detroit was putting together some of the most strikingly beautiful cars ever to hit the road......
I think they put together this car as a cautionary tale.
As if to tell us..... Be thankful, we can build really ugly s*** too.
If this car were my pet dog, I would shave his butt and teach him to walk backwards.
I think I'd get the rust attended to first, plus an entire safety check underneath.
I want to buy one is the Dodge for sale . I am in Australia had one in 1970 would love another one
Man speak up u'r giving me a woody !!
Pushing the inside door handle forward and down locks it.
Found that out a while back, just push it forward, who knew? Not us! Makes you wonder if all cars should work that way.
Feel free to break out the '62 Dodge sdn(Polara?). Off the beaten path.. I like that.
Sorry, coupe.
The model is Dart 440 (not the engine size, back then they had Dart, Dart 330, Dart 440, and Polara 500). We drive it all the time, it's a strange looking vehicle, some say ugly, but ugly is ok by us.
FYI, slant 6 is 1/2 of a Hemi.
Must have missed the 12 cylinder hemis.. damn
I had a 62 and I could push start it at 15 mph it would start up
Limpia las Bujias y fijate que yengan chispa y controla el punto y limpia el carvurafor y no le des arraque por si noma mira el distrivuidor y sus platinos y demas conponentes espero le sirva suerte y va de vuena onda
I can't hear it at max volume.

Not sure, but green cars rule!
The audio was terribly low, almost like you were mumbling to yourself!

Go away women.tis better fixing cars with out ,,no moaning .etc etc..
it's screaming for a 360 and 727 automatic, an 8 3/4 rear with a 3.55 suregrip.
The problem is, I think you're right, some days.
