When you mix fuel, metal oxide, and metal powder in just the right way you make a substance that burns at nearly 2,000 degrees Celsius, hot enough to burn through nearly any barrier known to man
Actually, you could cover C4 with ignited thermite and it wouldn't do anything but burn. In order to actually explode, C4 needs an initial shockwave from a detonator shoved into it, or another explosive near it.
I don't know the exact composition, but dry ice mixed in correct proportions with your thermite will make a very hot explosive mix. Don't hold me to that, but I think that's correct, from memory.
I used to make for fun raw thermite....when I was 14 a friend bright me some Titanium shavings to mix with my therm....And I had a chance to aquire some magnesium shavings also....I found a spot in my neighborhood where it was bare ground we made a wooden sandbox about 4'x4' and about 6" deep...we put the mixture together in a brick pipe using a sparkler we lit it and ran like hell!! The reaction was brilliant like the Sun as it sparked everywhere like a runaway flash bomb when sparks jumping around 6-7' into the air we we moved even farther away as even the wooden sandbox caught fire and was burning violently...Later when everything cooled down and Neighborhood Fireman saw our experiment...we had turned a good portion of the sand from the box into a glassy material... He figured that the Titanium shavings made it real violent and that was my last time I made thermo....
Amazing how flower pots are so useful in most thermal or explosive products. Not as good as mil spec products, but will do in a pinch if you need to melt or blow a hole in a door/wall.
When you mix fuel, metal oxide and metal powder, it burns at 2000 degrees Celsius, hot enough to cut down any barrier known to man. *C4 Explosions* And some C4 into the mix and you get one hell of a combination. #ThermiteOfRainbow6Siege
Heating up something isn't enough to cut trough it, you'd need to melt the thing... And objects have thermal inertia. A simple flower pot can somewhat hold a thermite mix even tho it cracks, but then a piece of steel will tank the reaction without much damage

will adding charcoal help with igniting it? ive heard that burning layers of newspaper in between aluminum before breaking it up and then milling it is a "trade secret"...
Why is there so much fussing with that small scale one. Blow torch on the magnesium. More blowtorch on the thermite. Poking, prodding. Is it not going well?
This iron oxide in this video is probably fully or partially iron hydroxide. I say it because red iron oxide should be dark ugly red. This looks like orange pigment. Or does it look like that because of lighting and video recording settings?
Dear FBI agent that’s probably watching me because I search shit like this up. I’m just interested in learning science. I love welding and I like studying things like this. Don’t break down my door please.

Don't make magnesium powder or tear it in little pieces, magnesium ingites itself with the oxygen and moisture if cut in little pieces, to store magnesium safely chemists puts it under Petroleum ether for preventing autoignition with air WARNING don't expose magnesium to water or high humidity places it will autoignite or worst explode, you does'n want a metal fire in youre garage because you can't put it out with normal household fire equipment (fucking bucket of water) Don't mess with magnesium, inform youreself before buying it BE SAFE Sorry for my bad english tho
I can confirm that heating iron oxide makes a better result. First I tried to cut a steel pipe by just mixing aluminium oxide and iron oxide. I spent all 400 grams of thermite and the pipe was still strong enough to bend. Then I heated iron oxide in oven to make it dry. Then I was able to cut a pipe with 200 grams of thermite. Second attempt was also much brighter and much less spills.
GLAMIS DUNES CALIFORNIA, people would throw VW bug engine blocks into a big camp fire and HOLY CRAP! it was like a 10 foot tall flash bulb that stayed lit for hours...
You’re probably watching this and wondering if making thermite is illegal, it is not. But that doesn’t mean you can go and make ridiculous amounts of it because that would still burn your face off
Everyone is on a meta data list. Set off the correct sequence of flags and big brother needs to at least take a peek, as they should. I assume thermite in experiment quantities are low on the peek list. Show intent to do harm and your experiments to find a better way for humanity will end in cell time. A terrorist would need truckloads of thermite to do little harm at a high price tag. Anyone who can read, can do more harm with household chemicals. What’s your plan for thermite? Do you think it possible transport enough to do harm to an armored vehicle/contents, then even get close to such an armament? Thermite is a tool or a toy, only that. If you can purchase a thermite kit online from pyrotechnics dealers, it’s not a threat. Trying to make up some wild conspiracy about thermite is a fools errand. Better stick with beer is dangerous and kills every day!

Almost definitely on a watch list because of this video
