The way to make thermite effective with a safe... you have to light the thermite that's against your surface first and let it burn upward. Lighting the top especially on a mound that big, the metal don't start getting melted until the very last couple of layers. Next time fuse light it on the bottom against the surface as it burns upwards the heat stays at the surface that you're trying to penetrate

Does anyone remember “the anarchist cookbook” from back in the day?
I remember reading about thermite in there when I was a kid in grade school...I’ll never forget the description it gave. It said a “nickel-size pile” would burn through the hood of a car, the engine, the axel, then the concrete below.
I’ve wondered if that was true my whole life. This was clearly way over-exaggerated in the book.

proper thermite burns at 3104 degrees celsius. enough to turn hardened crucible steel to melted butter in a matter of minues. HOWEVER, this is where we need to take time in account. for thermite to eat through things, time is needed.

b novak Yeah, with a big haphazard pile of it, most of the energy is going away initially. It needs to be concentrated more into one area.

Thermite is also good to melt steel beams and cause them to buckle and combined with explosive charges its great to cause tall buildings or skyscrapers to collapse at free fall speed in a controlled demolition, especially if its nanothermite
