    Excellent footage! Thank you!
    Trying to find an new inspiration for a "walkabout" and currently having a daughter on the GR10 in France I already looked into this trail as I have some kilometers already on my knees and hips.
    I have already seen lots of places in Sweden (and even had a stop a the bridge near Hornoeberget coming down from Lappland), but this video convinced me.
    Map is already at home....

      @@hendrikhoeft with pleasure. We are looking for it ! One question do you know if it is easy to buy food along the trail ?

    • @hendrikhoeft
      @hendrikhoeft  Год назад +1

      @@frankpeironenetrezo8073 It's relatively easy to buy food along the way. In most sections (depending on how far you walk in a day/ where you stop), you will directly walk through a small village or close by, and they often have small stores/ supermarkets. Just make sure you arrive there during opening hours. So in a nutshell, you can replenish every two to three days easily and don't need to carry more food.

    Very nice video!
    Were there enough water streams to fill up your water along the way? is the water from the streams safe to drink there?
    Thanks!

      Thanks for your feedback, glad you liked it!
      During my trip in May, I did not have any problems with water. There were plenty of streams along the way. In the drier summer months, I suggest to at least take a quick look at a map with possible water sources (streams, rivers, villages, etc.) and plan accordingly.
      I drank the water from streams without filtering it. Make sure though to have a bit of common sense when choosing streams (e.g., is the water clean, is there livestock upstream, etc.). However, I always bring a simple water filter just in case.
      Hope this helps :)

      I walked the trail a week ago (July). On some stages there are many offers of drinkable water and on some stages not so much. Many streams were dry on my journey and sometimes I took water from a lake which was ok. I was always careful with my water and when I had the possibility to fill it up I drank a lot. But there are always some houses on the trail, so if you would be in struggle, you could always ask the people there. It's a really beautiful trail...some kilometers along roads but the nature and the views are worth it

    • @marvin4163
      @marvin4163 2 года назад +1

      Thanks for your answers, I just finished it now. I had with me simple tablets to kill bacteria from already clear water. Indeed, in July (end) most of the streams reported on the map are not around, and I did rely on people's generosity who put big jars of water in various places along the way, very helpful. The trickiest part was the very last part, towards North, where water sources were scarce, or none. But I survived 😅 I would say for this hike in the middle of summer, it could be good to carry around 3 liters of water, I was only carrying 2 and it was not enough sometimes.
      Thanks for your feedback 😀

    Hey Hendrik,
    I am thinking of hiking the high coast trail this year mid june and would appreciate if you could share some insights on your packing list / equipment/ etc.
    Based on the information I found online, I am not sure whether it is possible to do the trail without a tent. I was thinking about getting a biwak, just to be on the safe side, but do not plan to bring a tent.
    Moreover, I was wondering how easy it is to get food alongside the trail. I mainly did long distance hiking trails so far where I could rely on the 'touristic infrastructure' and currently do not own a gas cooker and such. Do you think it is possible to get by without those things and to just buy food (ideally vegan) alongside the trail?
    I would really appreciate your insights and to hear from you.
    Best,
    Johannes

    • @hendrikhoeft
      @hendrikhoeft  2 года назад

      Hey Johannes,
      of course. I am certain the trail can be done without a tent. I passed through (small) villages every day and there are also huts of sizes and amenities close to or right next to the trail. It requires a little more planning of course and I highly recommend getting a detailed map that has all this information. A biwak is still a good idea!
      Same is true for food. There are various options along the trail of different sizes from typical grocery stores to small village replenishments. Again, plan ahead how much food you need until the next stop and keep in mind that you arrive at the stop during opening hours. Vegan shouldn't be a problem although your options are a little more limited then.
      Let me know if you have any more questions and how you liked the trail once you finished it :)
      Best,
      Hendrik

      Thank you - this was very helpful! Definitly encouraged me to put this plan into practice.
      2 more questions:
      I also plan to hike the trail in 6 to 7 days. Do you have recommendations on how to split the sections? On the official page it is divided in 13, if I am not mistaken.
      Do you have recommendations on a good detailed map and where to get it? :)
      Thank you so much for taking the time to answer my questions.
      Best,
      Johannes

    • @hendrikhoeft
      @hendrikhoeft  2 года назад

      Hi Johannes,
      any map of the area at a scale of 1 to 50:000 or more detailed should be sufficient. I used the C70: Höga Kusten 1:50.000 (Tyvek) Calazo map which I purchased from a local store. I did the trip in 5 days, so you can definitely combine a couple of the official sections. In your case, I'd try to end up in villages where you can buy groceries every couple days.
      Hope you enjoy your trip and let me know how it goes :)
      Keep hiking,
      Hendrik

    It's really super nice up there in Högakusten.
    how do you think the "Flex Kit" works when it's a bit windy?
    I saw you combined it with the trekking poles….
    Great filming 👌

      Thanks for your feedback. Much appreciated! :)
      The Flex Kit works quite well in normal conditions. It also gives a little more space inside. However, when the wind is a bit stronger, I have the feeling it's a little shaky without trekking poles. Hope that helps :) Let me know if you have any other questions.

    Is it save to camp there under the sky? I would be afraid of bears coming at night :O

      From my experience, it is very safe to camp under the sky in Sweden and loads of people do it. To avoid unwanted visitors at night, I always keep my food outside the tent.
