Hiking and Camping in Moody Weather - Early Season in the Bavarian Alps | Germany

Early season in the Bavarian Alps. Loads of snow have not yet melted which made hiking adventurous to say the least. The weather was rather windy, rainy, and cold. The views of many waterfalls and camping a little lower next to a river made up for it though! Enjoy :)

Hi, I am Nirav from Nepal, currently a student in Berlin. I saw your videos about camping in the Bavarian Alps great videos. I am planning a 2 nights trek with 3 of my friends. But staying in a campplatz is really boring and also a pain in ass. Can you please provide us Tips based on your experiences. And also recommend which part of Bavarian Apls would be good for us?
Hi Nirav, thanks for reaching out. I've mainly been in the area from Garmisch to Salzburg. There are dozens of great hiking trails there. I'd choose something quite. Please inform yourself ahead of the trip about legal implications of wild camping in Bavaria. Hope you enjoy your trip!
Great video you have inspired me to go here
That's what these videos are here for! Hope you enjoy and let me know if you have any questions!
That's amazing I love it ❤️
Great vibe 👏 I'm considering this trail for April, and I would like to ask about your weather experience? When you were on the trail, because I see a lot of snow there?
Sorry for the late reply, for some reason I missed your comment. Have you already been there? We were there in February and there definitely was quite some snow there. I can imagine though that it'll be a bit less in April already (if not entirely gone).
@@hendrikhoeft Yeah, I've been there in late April 😁 There was no snow in the mountains this year, so it was a bit easier to follow the trial (where it was visible). I found your video useful and I've succeeded in finishing the whole Peloponesse E4 section in 11 days. See you on the trail 💪🏻
That's amazing!
Beautiful place and great video 👍👍You have a new subscriber!
Hi Hendrik, this is a beautiful video! Would you mind sharing your itinerary, please? I would love your insights. Thanks in advance
Of course (and please excuse the late reply - I somehow missed your comment). This was a rather short hiking trip: We started in Gjendesheim along Besseggen ridge to Memurubu, from their up north to Glitterheim and them back south-east to Gjendesheim. Let me know if you have any more questions!
This area is so rich in history! Great to get travelling ideas! Thank you for the video!!

Great video! Thanks for sharing 😊
may i ask what is the name of this peak where you camped?
If I recall correctly, this was the "Kreuzspitze" near Garmisch.
Absolutely beautiful! Both natural beauty and cinematography!!
Thanks very much, glad you enjoyed it!
Wishing you a year full of health, wealth, happiness 💝💝💝💝
Same to you! I hope you have a great year so far.

And another stunning video! Thank you for the trip inspiration. Did you have any problems wild camping on the trail?
Thanks, glad you liked it! It really is a beautiful trail. We were actually hiking the trail from village to village without wild camping. Let me know if you have any further questions!
Great video. I love your frequent use of timelapses.
Glad you enjoyed it!

Hi Hendrik... what time of the year have you guys visited Jotunheimen? Any tips we should consider for a 5-6 day hiking trip in late August?
This was in July. Late August is a beautiful time to visit. Just prepare for slightly colder weather!
Just wow, the scenery is completely stunning, would love to visit 👌⛰️🐾😊
It absolutely is!
beautiful!!
Guten Tag 💓 🇩🇪 💓
Hi Hendrik, we will hike with a friend the 130 km Höga Kustenleden in august 2023. Thanks for your awesome video:-)
Awesome! Enjoy your hike and let me know how you liked it!
@@hendrikhoeft with pleasure. We are looking for it ! One question do you know if it is easy to buy food along the trail ?
@@frankpeironenetrezo8073 It's relatively easy to buy food along the way. In most sections (depending on how far you walk in a day/ where you stop), you will directly walk through a small village or close by, and they often have small stores/ supermarkets. Just make sure you arrive there during opening hours. So in a nutshell, you can replenish every two to three days easily and don't need to carry more food.
@@hendrikhoeft great ! Thank you for these precious informations. I will tell you about our stay, we are longing for being there
@@frankpeironenetrezo8073 Looking forward to it! Enjoy your trip :)
What a gorgeous scenery my friend, colors are outstanding here. Simply beautiful work!
Thanks, much appreciated. Glad you liked it :)
Great video Hendrik! i just moved to Germany, i want to ask about wild camping regulations, thank you
Thanks for your feedback and welcome in Germany! :) Wild camping regulations differ for each state. In Bavaria, in most instances you can get fined for it. Do you have an exact question?
After rain Norway 🇸🇯 is more more beautiful
Absolutely true!!! Another Norway video is coming soon! :)
Your cinematography is superb. Totally amazed by your work.
Thanks. Really appreciate the feedback!
It's really super nice up there in Högakusten. how do you think the "Flex Kit" works when it's a bit windy? I saw you combined it with the trekking poles…. Great filming 👌
Thanks for your feedback. Much appreciated! :) The Flex Kit works quite well in normal conditions. It also gives a little more space inside. However, when the wind is a bit stronger, I have the feeling it's a little shaky without trekking poles. Hope that helps :) Let me know if you have any other questions.
This is awesome nature…Appreciate your sharing😊
Thanks! Appreciate the feedback :)

hi this looks amazing whats the name of the trail
Glad you enjoyed it :) This was a round trip up the Geigelstein in Bavaria.
But isn't wild camping illegal in Germany?
@E A It's for sure not encouraged and yes, in some states it's illegal and you can get fined for it.
@@hendrikhoeft I saw it, and it's sad, but I still went camping in the forest with my girl this weekend. Nobody bothered us 😁
@@ernodios Hope you had an awesome time!
@@hendrikhoeft oh yes we did! Will just be the first of many
Very nice video! Were there enough water streams to fill up your water along the way? is the water from the streams safe to drink there? Thanks!
Thanks for your feedback, glad you liked it! During my trip in May, I did not have any problems with water. There were plenty of streams along the way. In the drier summer months, I suggest to at least take a quick look at a map with possible water sources (streams, rivers, villages, etc.) and plan accordingly. I drank the water from streams without filtering it. Make sure though to have a bit of common sense when choosing streams (e.g., is the water clean, is there livestock upstream, etc.). However, I always bring a simple water filter just in case. Hope this helps :)
I walked the trail a week ago (July). On some stages there are many offers of drinkable water and on some stages not so much. Many streams were dry on my journey and sometimes I took water from a lake which was ok. I was always careful with my water and when I had the possibility to fill it up I drank a lot. But there are always some houses on the trail, so if you would be in struggle, you could always ask the people there. It's a really beautiful trail...some kilometers along roads but the nature and the views are worth it
Thanks for your answers, I just finished it now. I had with me simple tablets to kill bacteria from already clear water. Indeed, in July (end) most of the streams reported on the map are not around, and I did rely on people's generosity who put big jars of water in various places along the way, very helpful. The trickiest part was the very last part, towards North, where water sources were scarce, or none. But I survived 😅 I would say for this hike in the middle of summer, it could be good to carry around 3 liters of water, I was only carrying 2 and it was not enough sometimes. Thanks for your feedback 😀
I can’t use words to assess the scenery. thank you for your working
Glad u liked it :)
Great video Hendrik. I really appreciate your effort behind filming and editing it. It resembles your passion. Keep doing. One suggestion, it would be helpful to others if you can make a longer video with more details regarding your hike. May be like where is the starting point, the struggles you faced in this hike, route etc.,
Thanks so much for your feedback. Will keep going! I already have a couple other formats planned, so stay tuned :)
