- Vocal Coach Reacts To Kelly Clarkson - Cryin' - Aerosmith - Ken Tamplin
Kelly Clarkson is quite the force.
She rose to fame in 2002 after winning the first season of American Idol, which earned her a record deal with RCA Records.
Her debut single, "A Moment Like This", topped the US Billboard Hot 100 chart and became the best-selling single of 2002.
Clarkson has gone on to sell over 37 million albums and 90 million singles worldwide. She’s had 27 songs on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, with three number one songs and eleven in the Top 10. And to top that off she has three Grammy Awards!
I chose to do a reaction to her rendition of “Cryin” by Aerosmith. I’ve always been a fan of her soulful voice and I really enjoyed her interesting interpretation of the song.

I'll never forget when I first seen American idol for the first time. The next day at work I was telling everybody that I just watched the next big star. She's amazing. Not bragging on myself but I picked every winner on that show in the early stages. But I'm sure a lot of others have too. Anyway Kelly is awesome.

Kelly Clarckson is so underrated.
Amazing. I don't know Kelly's personal life, but I love how she feels like a really normal person, despite being a very successful Pop celebrity known in the whole world. It feels like any average person could have a conversation with her like she's also a regular person that won't try to act like she is some sort of superior light that knows what's best for society better than society, which is something I see in Pop artists these days. Well, at least I never saw that in her.

What I love about this song is that it's almost impossible to over sing it. It was sort of built to showcase the voice...but then Steven Tyler and the bad boys from A-Smith had more than a few of these in their bag over the years. Kelly did a fantastic job on this song. That girl can really belt a tune!

I'm from Brazil and I really like your work, I'd like to say that we lost a Brazilian singer named André Matos, Melodic Metal singer, you must have heard of him, passed away on 08/06/2019, I was particularly annoyed with your death, because I listened to his sound a lot among other artists, I would like to make a request, as you are an artist with a magnificent voice, I would appreciate it if you see this comment, do a homage to this Brazilian artist singing the song "Carry on "or" Fairy Tale "which are two compositions of it, thank you and a big hug!

Huge fan of Kelly because why not you know. I honestly think it’s quite amazing how her voice recovered after her two horrific pregnancies, it was completely shot in 2015. She did a kellyoke 😂 version of this song yesterday on her talk show and not going to lie I prefer it to this one, it still had a rock edge which was cool. Because of copyright she only sings half a song every episode but it’s still proving why she’s regarded as one of the best female pop vocalists 😁.

Tell me about it!! I was at the 2015 show in Dallas for the Piece by Piece concert. Her voice was absolutely beautiful but you could tell she was hurting. She's bounced back since then and I love her to death!!
She cancelled the tour in September and I think we were the last show. I could tell she was struggling. But nonetheless the show was amazing and a standout for me.

Hey ken, I’ve been singing on my own for a long time, I love it so much but I’ve never gotten proper training, I am always so shy about my voice and I have been watching your videos and learning from them and practicing them for a while now, and today something minor but crazy to me happened, I am singing in a role for a musical and I sang the song for the first time for real with the mic and people around and everything today. And the choir teacher, someone I hardly know, told me she thought I had the potential to go far if I stayed with it. This was crazy for me because this has been my first major singing role. I just wanted to thank you for bringing me far enough to continue in this crazy dream of mine.

i love Kelly.....could you imagine being the guitar dude backin her up? she does over sing quite a bit but that's just cause she can and if you're there to see her you're there to see her throw down. of course we're talking about two different kinds of over singing. But she just has a massive voice. I've been in first few rows of an aerosmith show and had Steven within a foot of me hitting those notes so i could hear him over the P.A. and he just sounds like he sounds. there's nothing fake about him. I'd like to hear Kelly in a band....with a more ... organic approach. That huge powerful voice in a real group with real musicians?

Ken. Unfortunately we lost one of the greatest Heavy Metal singers in the world. Andre Matos (Brazilian singer from Angra, Shaman) passed away two days ago due to heart attack.
I and many Heavy Metal fans would be really appreciated if you could do a reaction of "Angra - Carry on" in memomy of Andre.

I feel like there was too much backup happening. I don't like it when the lead vocalist gets lost in the backup singers. It's all about Steven Tyler's vocals in the original. No frills is what I prefer when it comes to rock n' roll. But for the most part she did the song justice - it's a tough song.

2:23 I don’t know if ur using a falsetto or mix but either way it sounds amazing. I need to get my falsetto to sound better. I can never get any rasp in my falsetto either. Which drives me crazy because I have fairly good chest voice and can stretch up to an Eb5 some days. After that note idk what to do
He is using falsetto to hit those higher notes. There's a definite and distinct sound difference between the two. As well his mouth is opening very wide to allow for the higher note but here he is keeping it quieter.

Yeah, (on the key change...) she sang an F# to and E on a G5 chord, probably meant to get up to an A to G, but that is really high. Either way she owned it and got back on.

You probably don't want from Ken just a briefing to her vocal technique. OK, she's a powerhouse - we can see it - a typical female singer with a very powerful voice and magnetic personality. But I think there should be an analysis of what is beyond - her vocal art and interpretation of the lyrics. How she uses those vocal techniques of hers to build the character in the song, to cause certain emotions in the public. Russian pop music still has some meaningful lyrics and singers who are vocal actors in fact. It's not Broadway musical, but the idea is the same. Music nowadays - no poetry, plain and aggressive sexual attraction with no feelings at all, advertising of products. Hard to find someone using his/her voice to make money in a non-pervert way.
