Great review, nice and thorough. I own 2 pairs...kso evo and spyridon mr. I will not ever consider returning to conventional running shoes. Anyone who buys these remember there is an adjustment period in which u need to retrain urself in running.
Vibram 5 Fingers a great for running, especially if you have flat feet. There is an approximate 2 weeks transition period until you build foot strength and stretch your ligaments. These shoes allow the proper mechanics of your feet. You need to wash them as you would a pair of socks. If you like running or walking barefoot, I highly recommend these shoes!
Very insightful review. I would say to the viewers that if someone is primarily running off roads, there’s an off-road Vibram version for protection beyond normal shoes yet with the similar barefoot feel.

Nice review. Very curious about these shoes. Been looking for something that give a barefoot feel while hiking but also protect the soles. This may be it.
I love my vibram’s but after running in them for several months I developed multiple stress fractures in both shins. So much so I had to wear those ugly medical boots and use crutches for 2 months while they healed. Do you think it’s because I run mostly on concrete or is there a better model to prevent this from happening again? I have the bikilas which I believe were discontinued. Great review. I miss barefoot running. Hopefully I can try it again one day without injury.
I would need to see your gait to assess the problem. But most of the time if you have a heel/midfoot strike you may be causing undue pressure to your body, also when transitioning to five fingers, you need to develop great ankle mobility and stretch the many muscles that comprise the calves. Without proper flexibility/mobility within these components will make the transition hard and painful.
Grown and Healthy Thank you for responding! I toe strike and I eased into barefoot running over the course of about 6 weeks and made it through the initial soreness but you’re right I didn’t likely have the best ankle mobility nor did I stretch my ankles and calves while transitioning. I do remember my calves being super tight once I started running longer distances. I’ll try stretching more this time around. Thank you for the advice!
@@KCNOODLE If you read the instructions Vibram provides for these shoe they tell you to take *13* weeks to transition... not just 6. Week six you should be just starting to run 1-2km's / 10% of what you would normally run.

I mean it is common sense NOT to run thru glass, have seen a friend step on a broken bottle with regular shoes and that went right thru -.- Only thing that would stop that is a protective working shoe with steel plating ... but I mean .. c'mon, just watch where you step on a normal sidewalk.

@@GrownandHealthy Thank you for the prompt reply! I just got them in the mail! I ordered two pairs in two different sizes. The size that is true to my size is snug on my toes with my Injinji's (the length is great with a little room to spare in the big toes) but the larger size is just too large. I am thinking they will stretch perfectly. I will always wear these with socks. I am going to be heading to Seattle soon and will be doing a lot of walking and I need these to be perfect for my trip! However, there's one small problem with them if you run on a mix of grass and flowering weeds. The separated toes tend to collect debris. I haven't noticed any appreciable effect on my ability to run with this stuff there, but I'd be happier not to have it (and I'm slow, so this might be a full on problem for someone more athletic). I suppose it's a bit late for Vibram, now (they're tooled up for the shoes they make, and can't realistically be expected to change that without really convincing reason), but it would be nice if they had something that was almost a KSO, but had a single toe box in the space where the separate toes now are. Obviously it would have to have "Five Finger features" to be a replacement, so just making a large toe single toe box running shoe would probably bring problems of its own (the problems of the trapped toes, all over again). So it would (I think) be necessary: 1. To have cloth dividers between toes (a singe layer instead of two would make these nicer) 2. have some degree of "articulation", still - something to keep at least some independent toe movement possible. Perhaps some kind of indentation in the rubber between toes. "Webbed feet", if you like. Yes, I suppose that might destroy their distinctiveness, but there are benefits as well as drawbacks to that. what type of vibrams do you recommend for cross country running? During typical races, there is asphalt, grass, and trails. but mostly trials and grass
I want to purchase them because of my flat feet and I only see myself walking/running with proper posture with barefoot. How flexible they are from 1 to 10 scale?
How many miles are the soles good for? I have read through comments about the five fingers and can't find anyone saying they run over a thousand miles in them. I got close to 4,000 miles on my Prios so unless they can get in the miles they are not worth the money.
I'm unsure whether or not to get these or the seeya's for an upcoming half marathon. Usually rock vivo primus but they're not quite a perfect fit for running. I've got a slightly long fourth toe so have to size up to a 45 due to the shoe shape resulting in a sloppy heel. Any advice would be gratefully received.
Do you still wear vibram? I’m a massage therapist by trade and I’m looking to get more information on whether I should wear them especially during massages
Thanks for watching! funny enough, the socks actually help me to keep my feet from sliding in the shoes. The material used for the insole actually becomes slippery with sweat, the socks help to mitigate that (at least the injinji socks).
@@GrownandHealthy Also XOToes from XOSkin. Both are great. On my Size 15s both are a bit snug but they’re okay for a few hours. 10-12 hours… you’re ready to get them off, haha
Considering getting these shoes. Can anyone comment whether it's normal not to wear socks with these type of shoes? I can assume that after they start getting dirty / smelling, it's easy to just drop them into the washing machine?
They sell 5 finger socks for these shoes...but I wear these without socks. They can get smelly quickly, but they are easily washed in the machine like a sock.
If you mean parkour? Maybe not, they don't have as much cushioning as a pair of Feiyues, If you perform lengthy drops, or movement that would involve high impact.
Yes, I would. If it doesnt fit you correctly, most online retailers in the U.S. (if that is your location) have a great return/exchange policy. Also if this is your first vibrant/minimal shoes as long as the length from big toe to heel is comfortable the other toes will adjust to the form of the shoe with use. Conventional shoes have transformed the normal shape of our feet.
Can i wear this type of shoes for work? I work in a warehouse and I walk for 8 hours in concrete and I am diabetic and have tried all type of shoes and they all hurt my feet and toes please help
Certainly interested in these sorts of shoes, but my concern is it's durability and grip on certain surfaces (wet rocks, mossy rocks, etc). I've also heard of people ripping the fabric for one reason or the other. I wonder how much life will you get out of the soles on pavement and rocks?
I have had these shoes for over a year plus and I have worn them on numerous hikes and slippery terrain and must say that they are as "grippy" as the day I bought them. Vibrams are primarily a shoe sole manufacturer and they are used by many of the top manufacturers due to their quality. If you have any consternation in buying these, I would choose their V-Alpha, which is essentially a KSO with a trail rated sole.
Ever had a hotspot? I got one under my left ball of foot on mile 4 on a treadmill. My guess is I got sloppy, but what do you think? Also I can't stand wearing socks with them haha
Yes I have gotten that familiar feeling, I would base it more on fatigue impairing my mechanics, than over use, because I get that familiar feeling even walking barefoot for a long time, as you allow the feet to harden /callous, that feeling will subside.
I just ordered a size 49, but I am a US 12. I went off the foot size and not the US shoes size, but your video has me questioning my choice.. Do you think I will be okay?
They will dry relatively fast, but if you engage in that type of terrain often, I would go with their V- Aqua model, which contains perforation in the soles and uppers.
I love your channel, man. I know u advocate minimalist shoes, but for me they don't look aesthetic. Are there any sneakers that are popular and will prevent flat feet? Do u think chucks or Jordan 1s, airforce1 shoes or those types of shoes are okay? Or are the soles too thick?
Thanks for watching. . Out of all those shoes, I would recommend the Chuck's. The Nikes, While flat (Airforce 1's),they still have a stiff forefoot upturn and an imposing arch "support". Currently, there are many new Brands catering to minimal footwear, Lem's (Boots) Vivobarefoot (sneakers, boots) and many others that are trying to present a fashionable option. If you must wear those shoes, do it only as a casual, short duration (1-3 Hrs/Day), definitely do not exercise or do any prolonged activity in these shoes.

Asics, Adidas, Nike, etc should start making barefoot shoes to bring down the price. You pay more for less. Vivo is sooo overpriced! Maybe you could push the industry to move in the right direction. It should be a crime to produce any other shoe but barefoot shoes, cause its unnatural. Give your life to Jesus, God and be saved!
No, you're not "supposed to" do forefoot running, and how you can say that nobody will experience any issues is just ignorant. Sorry, I can't trust the rest of the video when you get that basic things wrong. But, I hope you continue making videos. The potential is there:)
My whole channel is a counter to heel striking. I have enough anecdotal and scientific research to show forefoot/midfoot to be preferential, especially wearing minimal shoes. If you heel strike with minimal shoes, you will definitely injure yourself.
@@GrownandHealthy Actually, according to other pieces of research, whether or not you heel-strike or not is irrelevant as long as you don't overstride. A better goal would be to land straight underneath or slightly behind your center of gravity, and to try to land on the front edge of your heel. Straight line from ankles to neck with a ~3.5 degree forward lean. Whether or not your forefoot lands first is a determined by your ankle flexibility and calf tension in the relaxed state that your foot should be in during the recovery of your stride. If your flexibility and calf tension calls for it, you will land on your forefoot as an effect. But the goal is where you land and to stay relaxed in your feet and ankles so that they can better adapt to the ground surface. I'm saying this because lots of people have gotten injured by overstriding with a forefoot stride, possibly because they don't understand why forefoot/midfoot landing is beneficial, so they don't approach it the correct way. If you heelstrike with minimal shoes but hit the ground from a very low height, that won't hurt you at all. So, strike pattern is not the main issue. That's the reason why I am opposed to your phrasing. I am however in favor of the general direction of your argument and channel. Just thought I'd clarify my standpoint a bit.

I have two pairs (need to get a new one and do some patching on the others, now, though), and I can't complain, overall. And that's it (which is already plenty complicated enough to probably be impossible in practical terms to implement?)
Yes, I suppose that might destroy their distinctiveness, but there are benefits as well as drawbacks to that.

They will dry relatively fast, but if you engage in that type of terrain often, I would go with their V- Aqua model, which contains perforation in the soles and uppers.
Tried foot powder?
Yes, doesn't help much and leaves a white residue through the fabric of the shoe.

new suscriber,good review
wema125 Thank You!
What about on grass is the grip there?
Definitely. But a trail type of terrain would be better suited by wearing the V-Trails.
Wish Got good fivevinger soks
Grown and Healthy vibram furoshiki are pretty dope
challenge that wearng them with socks is way better ) no more odor problems )
Definitely correct, that is definitely an advantage in wearing socks with them.
If you’re sweating, just don’t wear shoes because it means that it’s too hot for shoes.
I've heard these rip easy
tidak, aku sudah pakai 2 tahun, vibram is the best !!.
I don't know why I want these so bad lol..
Did you get these?
👍🏻👊🏻
Takes half an hour to put those socks on, another half an hour to put shoes on.
Running in construction boots... 🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂

Young man, THANKS for this review! ... I truly hope to see you in heaven. Therefore, here is my sound ( very important ) advice. ... Eventually, Yes!
@@GrownandHealthy Let me see if I can find the research I'm talking of, and you may see for yourself it you think it makes sense.
I concur with the problem of overstriding. I also agree about the feet landing below the hips.
I can’t wait until these become more mainstream 🥲
Awesome video and description!
Great review! Thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
