He didn't lose it. Probably used it on another marine because he was freaking out. (Everyone is supposed to have an IFAK strapped somewhere to their body armor, you're supposed to treat a casualty with the IFAK on them, not you.)

The Marines were being slaughtered by just Xenian hostiles. It puts things into perspective about just how badly the world fared against the Combine when they show up.
Honestly they deserve it, if they can't even fight off an MIT graduate and some security guards with basic firearms training they deserved to get absolutely squashed by the xen forces

"Forget about Freeman" Is one of my favourite lines from any game. You are a high profile target that is accused of starting this calamity unleashed upon the world. Yet your enemies go from confident at containing the threat to everyone is on their own, we are doomed, forget about the target. It makes Gordon more badass and makes him the Doom Marine of Half life for me.
In my opinion no it just makes you realize how bad the situation is because if the stop hunting you to survive then thats a problem and these guys are trained your just a science test in armor sure but the soldiers are trained and your not

Do you notice the fact that this area was used as a makeshift triage area for wounded marines? Thrown around stretchers, dead marines on folding beds, IV stands and foot lockers/medical supplies. That marine checking out the other marine was probably stumbling upon this and is trying to scope out who's alive. In the chapter Power Up, you can find places like these. One little hallway inbetween the intersection to the 3rd floor electrical system (the one partially flooded) with a headcrab marine with an IV line and stand still dragging behind him

This really does put alot of retrospect on the marines and how they have completely given up in this section of the game and how they are in such a dire situation they choose not to attack Gordon Freeman and basically accepted defeat, it really does make you have chills because of the fact there whole purpose was to kill Gordon Freeman and kill off Black Mesa so no one finds out about what they have done in Black Mesa and the fact it's shown with full detail is brutal.

Funny thing is if the hecu had helped the people and scientists, they could've stopped all of this more quickly with help from Gordon but obviously some politician decided his career and his position was more important than the planet. When the order was given to wipe out black mesa they just made it worse.
They weren’t ordered to silence the whole facility originally, only to dispose of those in the science team responsible, it was only when retaliation from the rest of the survivors happened that lead to them all being hunted. You can see as such in Opposing force, the government labeled them domestic terrorist amongst an invasion of an unknown hostile threat
You could imagine the resentment felt when a late batch of HECU soldiers fresh from boot camp attempts to arrest and detain a group of survivors only to be met with a shotgun blast to the shoulder.

Would make things less...awkward when watching them walk wounded. Especially since they do look in your direction.

I think it's chilling that, at the end, the marines are panicking about the garg and they blow up the fuel truck, only to kill themselves in the panic.
Also we have to note, they had no idea what was in there. Little to no intel on what happened or what they are facing, just "Kill everyone you see in there"

I would really love to see the 7 hour war portrayed in some form. We'll never get that from Valve, but fans are putting out some INCREDIBLE Half-Life content these past few years and I'm hoping someone will finally go for it. Things would look very different from what we see in the HL2 era; no Overwatch yet, no fortified Combine strongholds, etc. so writing a believable story for this time period is challenging but there is a lot of talent in this community and it can be done

@@user-tzzglsstle585e38 I think its because in HL1 they wear some weird black armor whit green gear bits over the urban warrior camo pattern uniform. in black mesa they wear dessert plate armor the plate carrier could be choice just to make ragdoll not break the model or just any animations they would do. that said Do wish they would change it to a bit more toward the PCV suit but then the PVC suit is a HEV suit minis not been full body armor. and the HECU are not stationed on site they are located a bit away, 1: the HECU would react to other disasters in the US not just at Black mesa. 2: you dont want your base to go boom in the case of black mesa going boom (put it at least some distance away to keep it from going up in smoke) yes there is probably always a small detachment of HECU inside Black mesa, origination, communication, orientation, making sure the gears and equipment are cross comparable would suck to roll up there and trying to aid the security forces just to realise they dont use 9mm parabelum MP5 but UMP in .45 instead of 9mm or something equal bad. 3: Im not sure if there is any actual regular military inside black mesa I think everything we se are HECU marines, that have pulled what ever they thought they needed from the other branches as the HECU feels like the military branch that can be seen run whit both a Bradley and a LAV-25 (both are APC the bradley is for the army the LAV-25 is for the marines) right next to each other.

Most of the marines especially ones that are on the surface on later levels probably didn't get to kill a scientist though, most of them only encountered aliens
