First, lets cover the basics and address some of these headlines - we’ve got Millions of Americans Skipping Credit Card and Car Payments, which represents users who claimed “Financial Hardship,” which allows them to defer payments, interest free, without affecting their credit score, for a pre-set period of time.
    www.wsj.com/ar...
As it stands right now…the outstanding Credit Card debt isn’t looking good. At the end of 2019…Americans had accumulated $930 BILLION DOLLARS worth of credit card debt, and that works out to be an average of $5700 worth of debt per person. And, just liked you’d expect…when you break that down further, the people who have the LOWEST household net worth are the ones who have the HIGHEST amount of credit card debt, likely because they have no other option than to use a credit card….and because credit card interest rates can be ridiculously high, it makes it extremely difficult to pay off if you can only afford the minimum payments.
The CONCERN is that people dig themselves into more debt by borrowing money, as indicated by the 25% of people who have increased their credit card debt during the crisis…and, when all of this is over, unemployment still remains high, the stimulus runs out, the unemployment benefits run out…and banks are left scrambling when a portion of those people don’t pay them back.
So, really - at the end of the day…here’s where we stand, and here’s what this means:
First, having such a huge number of people requesting financial hardship assistance on their credit card is not surprising. It’s easy to do, banks have made them extremely accessible, and for anyone who’s unsure of their financial future - it makes sense to pause payments, and solidify the essentials before coming back to the credit card debt.
Second, it’s absolutely concerning that so many people have been faced with financial hardship - and, inevitably, a portion of these credit card users will be unable to repay their debts once this pause-period is up. I certainly expect default rates to climb for the time being, and a LOT of this will depend on how quickly our economy begins to stabilize once people return to work.
And third, I think the most likely outcome from this is that - for the next few years - credit cards are going to be more strict about who they give loans to, they’re going to give you less of a credit limit, and they may potentially charge slightly higher interest if they determine that too many people aren’t making their payments.
Ultimately, when used properly…credit cards can be a VERY useful tool to leverage your money, build your credit, get cash back, and travel for free - and that’s the reason I like and use them so much. But, when used as a cash advance, without the money to pay it off in full…it can be a recipe for disaster.

I as a millennial am proud to say I never put myself through debt on things I cannot afford to pay off within 3 months.
I always chose to pay off my debt before the statement closes. I got 6 credit cards and only maily use 2 (Amazon and Walmart credit card) for my daily needs and other credit cards only have them around and use them once in a while to maintain open credit so my score could stay up there! I've had 5 car loans on 4 cars since 23 I'm now 30 and bought a new car during the outbreak to take advantage of the low interest rates. If I wanted to I could pay off the car in 2 years but I decided to make it a 72 month payment just so it looks good on my credit report. 2 cars I own are paid off and 1 is Financed.
Also I save up to pay my insurance premium in full with full coverage on all 3 cars.
The thing is to look at the bigger picture otherwise your just setting yourself up for failure!

Josh V no it most likely will be written off by the company as bad debt. However you’re taxed on that debt you owe to the IRS at your current tax bracket. If you don’t pay that you’ll be hit with penalties/interest fees. If you’re working on the books they’re garnish it from checks or just take it from any bank account(s) where you have money under your social security. In very rare cases you’ll get locked up but it has happened before.
If you owe a amount you can negotiate with the IRS. They want their money like anybody else so they’ll work with you... just be stern on the negotiations. If you can’t pay it in full workout a partial payment plan with them.

I felt like there was nothing I could to get out of it and felt trapped having to pay over $100 for the minimum payment in 5 different credit cards, all my payments were not making any dents on my debt. Your videos gave me hope and the encouragement to not give up. I took your advice, started reducing my expenses, managing my money, started doing side hussles, started drinking 20cent iced coffee (and of coarse smashing the like button for the RUclips algorithm). Speaking of Balance Transfers, there's another great way to take advantage of them. Our apartment roof recently got hit by lightning and caught on fire. The entire 3rd floor was destroyed and the lower floors flooded by the water used by the fire trucks to extinguish the fire. We did have an emergency fund fortunately to cover our expenses in the meantime but we could also get a Balance Transfer of $10,000 deposited into our checking account for a 3% fee and an 18 month 0% interest rate from Discover. That's a huge cushion on top of the emergency fund during this difficult time while I pay off just $650 per month over the next 18 months with no interest.

I received a letter from Chase last week that they were reducing my $20,000 limit to $10,000 because "...we saw you spent far below your available credit limit in the last 12 months. Because of your limited usage ...[we are lowering your limit in 30 days]." All because I pay off my balance in full whenever I use it. So I am certainly not a credit risk. I think I'll give them a call because them lowering my credit limit will certainly affect my credit usage ratio overall, but not by much because I pay all my cards to 0.00 every month.

They need to make money off you, especially during these times to offset their defaults. I have far lower limits than you on my cards but I charge up $100, I let them charge me the $2.50 in interest, then I pay it off entirely. I think they recalculate their formulas for lending and credit limits on an ongoing basis which keeps up with current financial conditions of their customers and the country, why extend credit to someone that doesn't use it? They need those interest payments, I give them something so that way they can't come to me and say I'm not using my credit ✂️💳 here ya go. I think they have a defined amount of credit they can extend, so, if that's the case, they'll want to extend it to people that will charge the 💩 out of them and pay $100/month in interest alone. I rotate my cards, I charge one up every other month so they can see "I'm still interested" 😆

Back when I was a small business owner during the last economic meltdown the CC companies really went to town lowering my credit limits. I had over $150,000 in available credit and I owed about $20,000. Since many of the small vendors I used only took CC for payment they were used and most times they were paid off at the end of the month. The melt down hit and I placed an order with one of my vendors for $3,000. They called me back saying my CC was declined. What? Why? I have never been late with a payment and that card had a $40,000 limit with only $7,500 on it. I call the CC company (Chase) Who told me that due to the economic uncertainty they had to lower my limit down to what I owed. So I told them I need to purchase some materials with my card and they suggested I make a payment. So I made a $3,500 payment and told my vendor to charge it the next day. Next day they called and said my CC was declined again. On the phone with Chase again and they informed me that they lowered my limit down to $4,000. Fool me once, so I wired my vendor the cash. But because I was now "Maxed Out" on all of my credit lines from Chase this effected my credit score thus causing my other credit companies to raise my rates and lower my lines with them. Which in turn lowered my credit score more. I was never late with or missed a payment and 80% of the time I paid the balance off entirely. So as a good customer with a great credit score it was deeply effected overnight by what the CC companies did and since business dropped off and I had just spent over $12,000 paying Credit cards that month that were still maxxed out it also effected my cash flow. That is one of the main reason that the first line "WAS a Small Business Owner". Unfortunately I fear there are several small businesses that are about to find out this cycle as well.

I could respect the decision! To each is own! I myself realized that it's not the credit card, but rather how you use it! And understanding how it works and using it wisely can benefit heavily! Tho many has only negative experiences! If you were to talk to those who felt that way, most would have had bad experiences from their miss use, or lack of clarity of how to use it should be used as a reason why! they don't know orbttook the time to really know what they have to offer or even how to use to their advantage! Casing point! I felt the same way up until early last year! Now, I have 1 credit, just with that, I've increase my credit by 120 points, not to mention, I get paid for using it! The difference is, I learned what card to choose for and what I need it for, use all the options that often get ignored, and i am consistent! Those are the only three key points! I plan of getting more and like Robert K not work for pay check, but rather get paid for what they hope that I don't know enough about. Most Wealthy individuals use credit card for everything, I always thought it was because they could afford it! Tho that might be true, but the truth is, they're getting paid for it! So what if you can get paid for it as well! I get a check from them every year by choice!! Cause I honestly can get one every month!!

Use credit karma to really understand your credit score. Its way better than using mint or annual credit report

@@jovaniedelacruz yeah i use credit karma too. Love being able to keep track of my credit every week. I've increased my score by 200 (started around 450 💀 now its 691 😁) points in the last year and havent even had my oldest card for 8 months. Credit karma makes it fun and easy to track :)

True story: I hadn't used a credit card in so many years that when I went to buy a new truck last year, they treated me as a first time buyer since I had no credit score. I don't like credit cards and I've been very fortunate to not have to use one since I was in college.

Carly Louis The title saying “The end of credit cards”. Credit cards will never end. They’re extremely profitable for banks. They might limit it to a point to avoid losing some money, but credit cards will never end.

I still pay off my credit card every month. I have never stopped or need to lower the amount to pay they. I am so glad about that, but I got a higher credit limits. I do feel bad for what is going on. I am worried about the family that has kid and feed them.

Graham, this might be the most Dave Ramsey video you've ever done! LOL. That being said, I pay off my credit card every month and I was in your scenario you described where I asked for a credit increase to help boost my score but was denied with a super generic message that didn't apply to any of their standard reasons. Luckily it hasn't been lowered though. Also, congrats on the 2 million subscribers!

xxXRealtutorialsXxx Paying the minimum is good enough to not negatively affect the cardholder. So long as the credit card utilization is below (common #) 30% then you’re good. Albeit, it could be better if you paid in full. Communication with your bank will go a long way in terms of repayments.

I'm just a young inexperienced 23 year old as well so take my advice with a grain of salt, but put that money in a high yield savings account for a guaranteed 1-2% return every month. I use Vio bank at 2.1%, but now all HYSAs have been dropping and it's at 1.35% ☹️. But still I'm making a free $50+ every month doing nothing.
