    I think what I love most about this is that Alfie did NOT oversing it as so many other tenors do. Bravo!

    Can't wait to see Alfie in Les Mis in August, he is the best Tenor I have ever heard, just incredible :-)

    If you heard Alfie's story, Alfie had an operatic voice but knew early on, he wanted to explore. As a young lad, his father played so many different types of music and I believe Elvis as well. Don't quote me on Elvis, but Alfie knew more music but his God given voice started out as opera. What a gift from heaven. Wish I was this mature in music 30 years ago, I would have saved every dime to go to London, West End.
    Learning so much from all of your comments.

    Mary Jane, I see we are still following each other around the Alfie clips! :) I love hearing him sing modern music but honestly, nobody does classical like this man. I've lost track of how many versions of Nessun Dorma I've listened to and my favorites will always be Luciano Pavarotti and Alfie Boe!

    Notice how the audience is talking at the beginning and by the two minute mark Alfie has the audience totally with him. That is a mark of a great performance. The applause at the end was well-deserved. Bravo Alfie. Well done!

      He was, actually, very well known in the Opera Circuit - but we all know how small and elitist that crowd is. Alfie's desire to just sing good music and to make Opera accessible to all is wonderful.

    Wow. Just... WOW. I never thought a performance could come anywhere close to Domingo/Carreras/Pavarotti singing this as a trio, but WOW. Alfie Boe is a genuinely stunning tenor, and even the shrieky soprano incapable of blending in the chorus cannot detract from my absolute awe!
    From the moment I first heard him sing, I thought "I need to hear him sing Nessun Dorma"- thank you SO much for uploading this!

    I think much credit should be given to this fine young singer, Lets give him 10 years and see what happens. After all is said and done, I hope he is not a transient voice. He has too much talent to settle for that. But lets see what he makes of himself. I hope for all the best for this superbly talenlted voice.

    You talk about hitting "the notes" as if that's the only thing. Alfie may not have the huge tenor voice others have, but he has a sense of the phrasing, the lyrics, the emotions I never get from other tenors. They're busy showing off the notes. Even if you don't know squat about Turandot, with Alfie you know there's a story there.
    That's why I consider him one of the world's best tenors.

    Did alfie boe once consider opera or classical music singing over pop and musical theatre?

    • @lucyrae65
      @lucyrae65 7 лет назад +2

      He did opera first, after his training was finished, but has discovered after a few years that he still loves to do modern and Broadway (or West End) just as much, so kind of goes back and forth depending on what is offered to him--he does all extremely well!

    • @chrisp4170
      @chrisp4170 6 лет назад +4

      As has been said, classically trained, but got his big break with 25th Les Mis anniversary at 02 where he just killed it. Has been able to do pretty much what he wanted since then. Saw him in his Les Mis tour in West End. Phenomenal. He may not be Pavarotti, but he does lots of things that Pavarotti couldn't and we still have Alfie.

    LOVED Alfie in Les Mis; was looking forward to hearing him in opera.
    In this he hits all the notes very well indeed. The low notes are very good and the high notes are sensational! But this role is not really for his voice. It's for a heroic tenor (Corelli, Del Monaco et al) while his voice is lyric. So he seems to aim for a popular audience. RUclips has much better examples of him singing opera. Try his Pearlfishers and Brindisi.

    @koalasarah Me myself personally, I like Domingo's phrasing a tad better. Pavarotti is more powerful but Boe certainly is a more than worthy successor to their position as worlds best tenors.

  • @jonnybee48

    Not according to the original score, NG; that phrase occurs several times during the course of the aria, and every time the note is shown as F#. NOT F rising to F#.

    The man has a cracking voice and a great delivery; however I take the comment about him being "rooted to the spot" - I can understand that might upset some people. My only criticism would be that he never seems to hit the note first time; he tends to go to one tone below, then lift into the right pitch. Maybe he prefers that - his style, if you like, but I prefer to hear the note first time.

    @clintoginaire Since this was posted almost 3 yrs ago, you're a little late to the party. Perhaps you should check out Alfie currently. (Maybe "Alfie Boe warbles a bit". He sings Nessun Dorma to karaoke in Matt Lucas' kitchen. Yes, in a kitchen! Stunning.)
    Oh, and as a Yank, I find your "vowels become very American ("eh" becoming "ae" which doesn't exist," a tad annoying. How dare we have a different accent!
