23:29 might be one of my favorite video game sound effects of all time. The whir up followed by that massive screen shredding blast, it's gotta be one of the most satisfying, and certainly most underrated BFGs ever.
dont forget about the laser dust afterwards. It was such an amazing feature to add to the game. They could've not done it, but i think they truly loved mechas and all they were doing so they thought "why the heck not"
@@eeka_droid Oh yeah, the visual effects on it were amazing too, especially that little unique way the screen would pan ahead, so you could just see the devastation
To pointlessly ramble at nobody in particular: Lately I've been feeling more and more disconnected from mainstream console gaming and the direction it seems to be heading in, so I've been playing more and more older games and I've realized that the various SEGA consoles really are a massive treasure trove to explore in today's context. While most of the big titles on Nintendo's and, by extension, Sony's older systems are still widely available and well-known, the same can't be said for the Master System/Genesis/Saturn and so on. Despite the fact that I've been playing games for over 20 years now, there is still so much I've never heard of before out there - this game being a prime example. Love it.
It's 2024 and I have eventually got around to investing some time into playing Ranger X on the Mega Drive 2 mini recently. Although not a great classic it's one of the better games in that mini's game lineup.
This game needed an accompanying anime or something to fill in plot details. I never understood the story. Although it was nice to see the practice stage at the end for the first time!
Oh my, the Mega Drive. What a spectacle for 1993 this game. The first time I saw it shot, it was on the 1st Boss in a TV show. The 1st seconds, I thought it was NeoGeo.
I really had not stopped to think that Ranger X was always another SEGA IP ^^ It would be amazing to revitalize this game as they did with Assalt Suit Leynos. At least include in new collections just like they did with the Thunder Force series.
Well Masaya is still around, and they did redo Assault Suit Valken before on the PS2, and I did see Leynos got a remake on the PS4 (I believe a remake of Leynos, maybe even Valken again).
Nah, some games have to stay exclusive for some systems otherwise this would ruin a huge part of the interest in those systems. That's like wanted every good Saturn games to be remake for Dreamcast, would be just as sad.
Porting games isn't an easy task sometimes, consoles were much more different then than now. And 2D was slowly dying at the time of the Saturn, 3D had taken over. Nowadays, we realize our foolishness, as early 3D has aged very poorly and was both subpar in gameplay and graphics usually but that's what gamers wanted at the time...
69 views and 13 likes.... cmon people, if you saw this how could you not give it a thumbs up. Excellent video of one of the most incredible games ever. You could easily convince anyone this was a cd game, but it wasn't. The programmers were masters of the hardware. I have always loved this game. It's a perfect example of genesis does what nintendont. No extra chips in the cart, just pure expertise with the hardware giving a gaming experience that shouldn't be possible. Awesome gameplay btw!!! I couldn't watch past 19 minutes because of spoilers, but after watching that I learned some strategy that will help me get farther in the game then I ever did. I may come back to watch some more but not till I get further in the game than I have in the past. Anyone watching this and seeing this game for the first time, you couldn't imagine what it was like playing this when it first came out.
You do realize the Nintendon't was directed at the NES right? Come up with original material. Yes, this is a great game, commands a hefty price tag, but leave the cheap shots to the kids on the playground these days. SNES could do a game like this, the chips just prolonged the consoles lifespan by several years. This game isn't exactly hardware intensive, after all the next Assault Suit game was on the SNES, and there's a lot going on in that game, and the system handled it just fine. There's nothing here that is overpowering, or even slowdown inducing, it's a normally paced game, nothing frantic. Genesis fans have something against Nintendo and the use of chips, those chips made them money, it let the SNES last until at least 2000 in Japan. The Genesis isn't guilty of at least using a chip in one game (the DSP), Virtua Racing. Had the cost of that chip not been so expensive, I believe Sega would've used them more often as well.
How do you access the bonus stage? I beat the game on heavy difficulty and still didn't get to play it. Also, does anyone what the end cinematic, at 37:55, is supposed to mean? I assume the woman is the person who was captured at the start of the first boss battle. And maybe the guy is the pilot of Ranger X (?). But there's no dialogue so this is really no more than a guess.
Well You can learn to disarm their shields by ramming them with the cycle. So if your just messing around with the enemies having fun. You might accidentally do it.
nick tod the Japanese version has like this exclusive hidden stage you acces from the sound test, I think? It's bizzare and mostly a test level, it looks straight out of Super Mario World. And I think it's possible to control the camera during the 3D cutscenes even more in the Japanese version. I tried to do that once and it, sorta works on the North American version. But I heard in the Japanese version you can control the camera even more and actually fly around the 3D environment the cutscenes are in
A bit late. But it seemed you have to kill one of those shield enemies only by bumping into them and juggling them in air. If you noticed no shot was fired at them. So the first couple in the beginning of the level would be the easiest since you can bounce them off the level start wall. Just tried is before commenting, and that seems to be the can even on Heavy difficulty.
Hidden Bonus Stage at 39:42
OMG! I have always believed the track of the hidden stage was actually unused. Did not know about this secret level!
This game still has one of the best soundtracks on the system
Ranger X one of my favourite Mega Drive games and great play through 🕹👍
i remember this game. i'm surprised no one remade it or made a sequel.
I think everyone gets suppressed, many other games had tons of versions and never deserved, but sadly ranger-x deserved more games and never had one
Ranger X has held up with time, still fun to play, looks good too.
Every bit of it looks like a labor of love
I would say it's more interesting than fun.

I feel the same way.

I wish more people would realize this, modern gaming is largely slop yet so many older gems get ignored just because they aren't new.
This game needed an accompanying anime or something to fill in plot details. I never understood the story. Although it was nice to see the practice stage at the end for the first time!

Just brought back a ton of memories
This game deserves a remake
Yes! This game was always one of my favorites growing up! Kudos! It's always good to see other Sega players out there.
Love the birds @12:52, adds a cinematic touch 👌

Great game and the japanese box art is superb!
I don't understand why Sega didn't remake this game for the Saturn.

Viva la mega drive 🥳

21:10 easter egg)
What is?
I like explosions and this has plenty of them!
I've had this game since '94 and didn't know about the shield drop in the last stage or the hidden stage.

Welcome!
Everyone keeps comparing X to Leynos but, I see it more along the lines as the start of Armored Core.
Why isn't this game a part of Sega Genesis Classics? Chika Chika Boys should also be on there.
How do you access the bonus stage? I beat the game on heavy difficulty and still didn't get to play it.

Also curious if you have anything new to share thanks 👌
Thank you for the video..
This game was absolutely savage
TIL there was yet one more weapon in the game. Makes me want to fire up my genesis.
sehr gut, great
32:18 how the fuck was anyone suppose to figure that out?
Well You can learn to disarm their shields by ramming them with the cycle. So if your just messing around with the enemies having fun. You might accidentally do it.
is this game got any change from the localization like AS Valken or there's not different or so what ever from both japan and this ver ?

this game was too good to people like, the sad truth
I only ever got the shield one time in 100 play through any tips on how?

@@azurecobalt294 nice; seems to make the last level and the boss pretty easy 👌
