I'm sorry to hear you didn't get to visit Malta this time but it makes sense right now not to travel. Hopefully you can visit after the situation improves. I'm happy my videos could take you to Malta in a way after all. Take care!
You're welcome! I agree, they usually advertise the regular tourist options so I really wanted to point out more local (and budget friendly) ways to travel around also. I'm glad you found it useful.
I was stationed in Malta G.C with the Royal Marines in 1954/55. I was first in St.Patrick's Barracks ,which I think is now a girls' school. It's also a listed building. I then moved down the road to St.Andrew's Barracks. I've spent many a night out in St.Julian's, Sliema, Valetta and Floriana. I was on Palace Guard in Valetta on Christmas Day and New Year's Eve in 1954. Although I have never made it back there since I left, It remains the most favourite place I have visited outside the UK. I spent over 10 months there and I have very fond memories of the places I visited and the people I met.
I'm so happy you shared your memories of this place and that my video could trigger some of them. It sounds like you really got to know the area quite well.
Travel on the Brain the weather was very good. Around twenty degrees Celsius. Even the sea was warm enough to go swimming. And yes: i like Malta. A place to come back.
@@lovemalta We have spent our time in the "Danish Colony" in Mellieha. The Danish teacher and architect who made the plans, also a frequent visitor to Malta: Hans Munk Hansen, sadly died a few years ago, and our last visit at the end of Covid19, wasn't really a success, so as both now 74 we are a little hesitant. My wife is handicapped, but we are talking about a possible trip once more!
Hey there just found your channel because of this video! We are crazy about travel, always nice to connect with like minded people! Late last year we toured all of the Maltese islands and no doubt we can’t wait to go back to see more of the beautiful architecture and soak up the interesting and deep history that surrounds these islands. Stay in touch my dear new friend :)
Hiya! That makes me happy. Welcome to my channel. And that must have been an epic trip. How long were you travelling the islands for? Which was your favourite?
Travel on the Brain We spent just under two weeks there, staying in St.Pauls bay Malta. My favourite island was Comino, mainly due to how clear the waters are at the blue lagoon and how the whole island is geared up towards having fun on the water. It’s strange that for such a relatively small land mass, there are so many things to do. It felt like we did not scratch the surface which is why we can’t wait to get back there to see more. Do you plan to return? Did you do the open top bus tour? We did them both and will be publishing them in full in HD over the coming weeks :)
Yes they did around 4 or 5 years ago, we haven't been since, I think we went the last time they did the flights from norwich, we stayed at the mellieha bay hotel it was wonderful.
just had your video in the recommended section and i'm grateful it did, nice presentation and hope you had a very nice experience here in Malta. maybe we can see you again :)
Hi JJ, that's so cool. My video was in recommendations? That's so cool. I really enjoyed my time in Malta. I gotta go back, there's still so much left to see.

We're they censored previously or have they been released from being captives in former Mars taken by satan , Saran for apparently for the Circle of Life ! Thank you for the video! SA. Hi Safia, not sure what happened with the sudden influx of people. Maybe there was a good flight deal or the weather was particularly excellent that day? I doubt Satan was responsible for that. ;)
I am from Valletta! I live close to Fort St. Elmo. Anyone who wants to know anything about Valletta, just ask (History, Locations, Views, Football, etc.)
Luca Ellul Hello Luca😊. My Mother is in her late seventies. She’s still a keen traveller but she has quite a bit of arthritis. May I ask, is the entire city steep? Are there taxis if she gets tired. Are there plenty of sites that don’t require climbing lots of steps? Thank you for your time. Any help is much appreciated. 👍🏼😊
@@larajhilton In Valletta you may find taxis which take you around the city or tours. There are some steep roads, yes, however, it's according to where you/she want to visit in Valletta. If you keep straight from the Main Entrance of Valletta, the road itself isn't steep (Republic Street). If you want to see Churches, Auberges, and other buildings not found on the main road but inside side streets, then yes there might be some steep roads. If you'd like to visit Churches and other buildings (not on the main road), I suggest taking a taxi from outside Valletta which takes you through other roads to any site you wish to visit. I also think it would be wise to make a little bit of research on sites and buildings, so you could see which ones your mother would be able to visit. If you would like to ask anything else, ask me.
Luca Ellul 😊 Thank you so much! I really appreciate your help and kind offer. We’ve wanted to visit beautiful Valletta for years, so we’re very excited. I’ve been doing some research and with your kind advice I think we can still make this possible. I read last night that the TukTuks are a handy way to get around too! We’ve got a full week so we’re going to do it very slowly and have plenty of sit down cafe stops for her in between. Which is the closest beach to Valletta and is it nice? Thank you again 🇬🇧😊
@@larajhilton The closest beach to Valletta is Balluta Bay (Sliema/St. Julian's), however, it is very crowded and surrounded by streets and cars. The nicest beaches are Ghadira Bay (Mellieha), St. George's Bay (St. Julian's) and maybe 'Bahar ic-Caghaq' (Bahar ic-Caghaq, Naxxar). For any beach, you visit I recommend taking a taxi or a bus (if you're willing to wait hours for the bus). If you have chance you may also visit the other island of Gozo, by taking the Gozo Ferry. You may also visit other cities, such as Mdina, Senglea (L-Isla), Vittoriosa (Birgu) and Cospicua (Bormla). You may also visit the Mosta Church (Dome), which has the 2nd/3rd largest unsupported dome in Europe. The Megalithic Temples are also beautiful to see if you have time (Tarxien/ Skorba/ Hagar Qim/ Ggantija/ Mnajdra), the Hypogeum is amazing as well, however, if I'm not mistaking you to need to book in advance to see the Temples or the Hypogeum. The Roman Villa (Rabat) and the Catacombs are great too.

Churches are a place of worship. People go there to be introspective, meditative and to pray and hear the homily. Parishioners are not likely to say anything to you about it but you can imagine what they're thinking. It's not there for entertainment. Malta was a protectorate of England. Hi Carmen, thanks for your comment and clarifications on history. I am sorry you got the impression that I filmed the beautiful churches for entertainment. That certainly wasn't my intention. I know some people - like my family - always make an effort to visit churches when we travel but certainly not for entertainment and we never bother church goers. Not sure what gave you the impression that I was misbehaving when visiting these religious sites. May I point you to this article, which uses the word "British rule". While it was indeed a protectorate, you can say that the British had a pretty big say and did definitely rule to some extend: old.culturemalta.org/86/The-British-Period And yes, I am allowed to comment on the crowds. Certain seasons are just prone to overtourism and I do not appreciate this overall trend in travel and certainly am not to blame for it. People do search for videos on Valletta and it wouldn't make much sense to document my trip through Malta withoud including the capital, and showing busy times in Malta might help people decide on when to book their trip some other time. I certainly prefer to travel off season and always make a point of including lesser visited destinations in my travel recommendations on each country to exactly not promote the same, crowded destinations.
