I'm glad that most people seem to have understood my original message 😊
oh based, hey sellsword
Honestly pisses me off that shad came for someone so wholesome
Is it hard staying calm with these unhinged rants be delivered? You seem calm about it, but I almost feel like you should be at least careful, they seem, not grounded in reality
We rise to assist like dark souls summons
I used to follow shad back in his macholication days but when he started whining about his garbage writings I noped out asap. I'll give you a follow.
Having met Shad, it totally tracks that he'd get really butthurt and insecure assuming everyone is talking about him lol
How was it?
Spill some tea! Come on! Pretty please 🙏
I KNOW WHY SHAD HAD TO BRING OUT HIS DUMB DOUBLE SWORD THING... "mine is bigger than yours"😂😭😭😭😭😭
Arguably, the only thing worse than Shad is his community. So ready to pounce on whoever Shad points them at
Shad is that guy from that reddit post that wanted his wife to call him a pilot cause he spent most of his spare time in a flight simulator
LMAO can someone PLEASE transcribe the rant at 26:00 mins so I can use it as a copypasta
Sword dude did a disservice deleting that comment because LMAO
Fun fact about me and this comment: I am watching Jake on my television and paused it to write this on my phone before he made the 'some one would have to transcribe it' remark
Same wave length
Please transcribe it
No one no matter what walk of life they are has the right to who I should and should not watch and I find it very laughable that a man that unless I know from his own perspective has not been to a war to know the true meaning of a warrior sir you may claim to be a true warrior in your own video but you are truly not unless you have proof of your credentials have you been forced to go to war for the sake of your family have you had to look into the eyes of your enemy and take their lives because while you may talk about sportsmanship like how pop culture does and believe me you do in a way that I find it no different from the other swordsmanship content creators but you seem to talk about swords like as if you're a true warrior when I find that the most laughable piece of cap I have ever heard in my existence swordsmen were not the type of images that we have seen through pop culture nor were they talked about through history they were just as much as killers rapists and murderers has anyone else remembers those that were like that whether they be in the battlefields today or yesterday I find it very disrespectful to True man that had to go through such pain of fighting in war and taking up a gun to defend themselves just as much as men that had to be forced to take a sword to defend themselves and fight for their lives a weapon today baby some form of reminder of a past ling forgotten but that same weapon in the past was nothing more than a tool for survival I find it very disgraceful that you would say this and I find you have no place to tell anyone anything for you are nothing bit entertainment at this very moment if anyone wants to know swordsmanship they can go to places like you are still learning but if people just want to talk about swords and talk about the other medium that swords are even talked about nowadays which is the things of Pop Culture anime and so on they have their absolute right to do so and you are in no place to tell people otherwise I'm going to be honest and this may be brutal but know your place you absolute Jabroni
Edit fuck I think it got flagged as spam there goes a good ten minutes :(
We teach kids how to use grammar for a reason, and I wish OOP did. But like that whole implication that peasant levies (which I assume that's what they meant by forced to go to war) had swords. No they didn't. Swords were expensive to make and it took time to train peasants to use said sword. Peasant levies were basically cannon fodder, they had spears and polearms because it wasn't hard to hold to pointy end towards your enemies.
@@dubspool I'm about to play it on my television with speech to text enabled and have my phone pick up Jake's reading and edit it post haste
Like I NEED THIS
Surprised to see him self report here but not at all surprised to see him doing some "creative" edditing that misrepresents whoever he is talking about. That one is on the first page of the Shad playbook.
Funniest thing for me out of this is i thought Swords was the one thing Shad did know and that he comes across as a dickhead because he steps out of his area of expertise and forgets he isnt an expert on that. Turns out its just that being a dickhead is his only field of expertise
Its a common theme.
At this point if a guy with some sort of purported expertise in some niche subject has a pattern of loud, proud ignorance on other subjects, I assume that's what he's doing in his niche, too, and getting away with it because of the niche.
i love how he does it then claims other people are being disingenuous, fuck man he loves that word so much
You expect me to believe that Shad made yet another video misrepresenting someone else? I’m not buying it, he’s always been so deeply, deeply normal and honest and normal.
(Also that read of that gigantic run-on sentence comment was magnificent 😂)
Ever since his Barbie movie bullshit, I could not bring myself, in good faith, to watch his content ever again. Which is a crying d*** shame because up until that point his fantasy and historical analysis videos were some of my favorites to watch (and the saddest part is that there's still probably very much up to quality to).
I think they should duke it out in a sword fight, like real men. Winner gets to keep his head, etc.
Lindybeige is an eccentric English RUclipsr who does long rambling one take videos on a single topic, usually histories of things like predecimalisation money, but occasionally dancing, philosophy, and an assortment of crafts, he is also quite funny if you enjoy a dry wit. I've absolutely no idea what his opinion is on shad's sort of conservatism, but I suspect he may not know of it, or avoids it as he just likes to do his own kinda quirky thing.
The fact that this shad chap has well over a million subs shows how often we more so live in a mediocrity instead of a meritocracy.
hi double sword looks SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO BAD
THIS JUST IN: The lamest swordtuber attacks the coolest swordtuber...embarrassment insues
Shad is adept at self reporting on himself. He's that one person who gets butthurt over a generalized reminder.
Sellsword's "LGBT content" is a flag in the background in one of the gyms he practices in
phobe brainrot is too real
Nah, he’s also incredibly pretty.
Literally jusy being a normal guy
@@carrias1 Hah. I guess he does kind of give a vibe.
The outrage in response to that is an insight into what sort of dullard is impressed by Shad.
Lmao at the comment about him promoting LGBTQ when HEMA alliances tend to be very queer friendly spaces. L
Are they? Giga Based.
@@reaverfang377every HEMA club I’ve been a part of has a large contingent of queer fencers, and explicitly include inclusively language in the club charter. My personal best friend I’ve made in the community is a bisexual woman who is married to another bisexual woman. It’s incredibly common.
The largest HEMA club here in Melbourne is explicitly pro-LGBTQ. Shad's from my state, so he doesn't show up to nearly all events of the actual local sword community.

It's a surprisingly common special interest for lonely nerds who want to be less lonely. I say that with love as one of them lol
@@Mercadian I remember wondering back in the day why he wasnt seen at Swordcraft, now it all makes sense.
I really like Sellsword arts, because while he’s mostly focused on realistic sword stuff and pokes fun at fantasy swordsmanship, it comes from a place of affection and he doesn’t take it too seriously like some people. He’s got good vibes. The exact opposite of Shad.
I can’t stand him because he’s a homophobic bigot
Shadiversity really is the gift that keeps on giving, no matter how much you try to return it.
is he? only thing that is continuing is hate for shad. i dont care for him or even watch his content, but everyone is continuing this drama for nothing more than views, this video for example at the time i posted this comment, has 15k more veiws than anything Actual Jake has posted in the past month, other than shad hate videos mind you. to attack a mans faith by calling him a "typical Mormon misogynist" is very toxic in itself. and shouldn't be promoted by all of these offended tribesmen in the comments
@@Daneuwill did you seriously write an entire paragraph defending a guy who wrote essentially a rape fantasy novel?
@@fanime1 like I said, I don’t care for him, I don’t know him, the paragraph is self explanatory and not in defense of Shadiversity, honestly couldn’t care less
Did you actually read the novel or did you just learn about the novel from a youtube comment and now insist that. Because i didn't get that impression at all from the book which also has a visual novel and a short film in production. I would think that a book as horrible as you describe wouldn't have had that much success. @fanime1
😂 good one
All I'm getting out of this video is Shad is to the sword community what Quarterpounder is to the Magic the Gathering community.
That is a comparison that I am definitely going to steal to use when talking about this guy because it is too accurate 😂😂
I think what's actually going on here is Shad is to the HEMA community what Shad is to the art community: A guy who is unwilling to put in all the time and effort that true mastery demands, and who is intensely jealous and resentful of everyone who *was* willing.
Not really . Shad is an author and more just an overall historical nerd then a professional swordsman. However, unlike the guy who posted this clip and swordsart shad deals with accusations front on and doesn't hide his opinions which more often than not leads him into drama like this. This "reaction" video from shad was more of a self promotion and a redo of an older video than it was a genuine attack against swordsart. Shad even links and recommends swordarts videos (probably just to drive home his original point). The people shad talks to are just the other people who are part of shads videos(his co-host) phrasing them as just some old dude is rather ironic as shad didn't take this as an attack of his person but as an argument against his channel and his content. Shad isn't a major supporter of HEMA despite having p[practiced it in ages past and his focus is less swords and just combat overall hence his finding distaste in swordarts video
Not quite right coaching is a specialty
People who are great coaches are not always any good at the game
But these are people who are in The sport actively communicating with fighters
While testing and failing and succeeding
Coaching is its own art
Shad: Guys Im a super serious sword fighter too.
Also Shad: makes a sad video about how hes being bullied while holding a ridiculous, poorly made, darthmaul prop sword, thing.
I wish I could like this comment like 5 million times more
W take 😂
Shad was the first swordguy I started watching, and I was mostly into his educational videos about designs and forging, and sometimes he dabbled into historical progression of armor and weapon systems, which I thought was interesting, but thankfully he was my gateway into people who did his kind of content better, or were more dedicated to those specific niches, because since his main channel is the only one I ever followed, and I didn't follow him on social media, I had no idea he was such a goofy culture war weirdo until like maybe a year or so ago.
His beef with this other swordsman has no piqued my interest in sellsword arts' channel. Lol
@@bleakautomaton4808 Most of what I've seen from Sellsword are random shorts of him doing HEMA demonstrations, and it's pretty neat
To my knowledge Skallagrim and Matt Easton are still cool. I don't watch much of that kind of content anymore, though, so it's possible there's drama I missed.
@@dynamicworlds1 Matt actually distanced himself from Shad recently because of who Shad is as a person, same with Skall a bit so yeah they're definitely still good
Tbf his goofy culture war side didnt start until about a year ago 😂. Its honestly the reason I disrespect him even more, cuz it feels like he doesnt even believe half of it and just says it for the reaction farming.
I remember when Shad tried to claim a bunch of things about the Japanese sword making techniques, based purely on crap he pulled out of his ass, and one of the actual sword smiths, trained in those techniques, at Man At Arms did a response to it. He pulled on his own knowledge, and pulled out various historical references in research done on the subject and what not. Like in reality the reason the Japanese invented such amazing sword making techniques is because the quality of the material they were working with, IE iron sand, was very poor. So they created all these techniques to turn low quality iron sand into good quality steel, and it was extremely innovative at the time. It isn't because their techniques are superior to western techniques, it's because their base material was lower quality so required more work to make into something good. He just got ripped into about the whole thing and made to look like a fool. All cause he couldn't help but run his mouth about something he didn't understand fully.
Was it Ilyia?
I thought the whole low-quality ore was basic knowledge, how the fuck did shad not know this

A reminder that Shadiversity is a guy that complains about WOKE Hollywood teaching little girls bad things, meanwhile in his own book the protagonist sexually assaults of hundreds of women are justified and forgiven because some of those victims had children from it and those women like their children so apparently it couldnt be that bad...im not joking, that is what happens.
Edit: by the way, many of these SA victims were children
shocking. its almost like all this complaining about "woke" shit is actually a virtue signal toward his audience of alt right apes who eat that shit up like candy
Holy shit, that’s actually disgusting, like what the actual fuck.
Like, have the decency of labeling yourself as non-con erotic fiction before making your protagonist a fucking rapist. At least then people will know how fucked up the story’s morality is.
That book is such a huge self-report it's difficult to explain it without reading it one-self.
That foul. Shad is garbage on all levels

Holy shit, that comment on screen at 25:00 absolutely sent me. The sheer delusion of calling anyone OTHER THAN Shadiversity "the Steven Segal of the RUclips sword world".
At least C-Gal has real martial arts competence. His other idiocies are different story.
Shad is a writer and has some fun videos, why does his ass hurt so bad when an actual martial artist talks about his stuff, shad seems to be a mcdojo kind of guy sadly
I’m not surprised. Shad had a two hour meltdown over a two minute clip of his being criticized in a video which wasn’t even focused on his work exclusively. He’s just an insecure loser who thinks he’s the best thing ever.
Shad hits me as the kinda dude who'll berate you for not knowing the difference between a claymore and a Zweihänder but also calls the fuller a "blood groove".
That reminds me when he reacted to trailer on movie about most famous Hussite leaders and thought Rosenberg rose was Tudors.
Shad hasn't got a clue what a Claymore is 😒 That 2 handed fantasy thing he bought's nothing like what anyone's ever called a Claymore, I'm British a Claymore's a fairly modern single handed basket hilted sword
@@valandil7454Now to be fair I don’t know what Shad’s Claymore looks like so if it is a super fantasy design then I don’t blame your criticism, but people have just associated the name Claymore for the old two-handed Claidheamh-Mòr. The basket hilt sword is more accurately a Claymore considering the swords of it’s time, but people have just switched the name of the two. It’s strange, but they both technically fit the category of “broad”sword.
@@thiccboisincorporated7136 wrong. A Claymore is actually an explosive directional mine.

True, but that was not by a sword.
Yeah, that part's bizarre.
"How can you claim expertise in swords when you've never been in a REAL WAR!?!?!?"
My guy. We don't use swords in wars anymore. Being in a real war is not gonna learn someone how to use a sword.
He's murdered a few pizzas by the look of him... oh, wait, that's just his gambeson. My bad.
No one has experienced true warfare with swords and other such weapons being primary weapons in over a 100 years. The only place that I recall swords being used in recent history was in Rwanda... Prior to that it was WWI trench warfare which also had grenades, maces, bayoneted rifles, pistols and flamethrowers...
If the only people who could talk about sword usage in battle, because of experience, then we should be listening to what a bunch of murderers who only practiced their swordsmanship on defenseless women and children have to say... which is no experience at all when it comes to _historical_ fights. :/
Average conservative coping that normal people aren't willing to associate with psychopaths in their communities
Shad irritates me so much. How can someone successful enough that he gets to larp 24/7 as a fantasy knight literally for the rest of his life be such an obnoxious and insecure loser?

I grew up Mormon, in Utah no less, and it has the same significance it does for the rest of the general population. With just as much excitement involved. The only times I've seen married people not wear their ring is for safety, like if they work around machinery. But beyond that? Engagement ring for the woman and wedding bands for both is standard.
Mormons are weird, yeah, and there are definitely weird cultural things (the fancy sodas!!!) but they're also still members of the general culture and take part in most of it. You're coming across as a bit trolling, or maybe only talking about the very insular polygamist sects.
@@widdershinscryptid I wrote _religious significance_ intentionally, you are talking about cultural stuff. In Christianity the wedding ring is actually a sacred item and an integral part of the religious marriage ceremony. This isn't a "Mormons are weird" thing as you put it, Christians are the weird ones here. I don't deny the cultural customs you described, but the same can be said about people of other faiths (or no faith) wearing their wedding rings for cultural reasons.
As far as I've seen Shad hasn't ever worn a wedding ring in his videos. My only point was that religiously speaking, he doesn't "have to". Sure, he "ought to" if he wants to fit into his society, but this guy has an adult play castle in his yard and he wears medieval cosplay all the time! No shade on those things, but I think it's pretty clear that he isn't concerned about fitting into society.
@@widdershinscryptidthat’s Utah mormons. Mormonism presents a bit differently in other countries. It would depend on if wedding rings were still a common thing in Australia for millennials.
I'm exmo- depends on the individual mormon and what sect they are in and where they live. In Utah there is a completely different base culture than the Colorado polygamist clan, and they are both very different from Indiana Mormons, which are basically just evangelicals with extra steps. My parents have a very normie-christian belief about wedding rings, but my brother and his wife just think they are pretty and a fun tradition. And that's just in the same region and sect and meetinghouse. But you are probably right when it comes to Shadiversity, I don't know him like that;D there's a lot of diversity! anyway thanks for coming to my tedtalk lol
I'm an ex-mormon convert and every married person in every ward I went to wore rings... I'm not a LDS anymore, but it still annoys me when people trash mormons, or any group, on unfounded claims, just for the sake of trashing them.
The only piece of jewelry ever denounced by the LDS Church has been the wearing of the cross, because they believe it is more important to memorialize Jesus' life and his lessons, not his death and sacrifice.
This is why you more often see mormons wearing an angel (the angel "Moroni") or a tree emblem (the Tree of Life) on their necklaces instead.
I used to subscribe to Shadiversity years ago when I was a bit into castles and stuff and I thought he was informative…. Then he started showing his politics/anti-woke stuff so I unsubscribed and completely forgot he existed until a few months ago when his “I’m a real artist!” cope diatribes showed up in my feed; so now I’m really enjoying all the anti-shad content since then.
Which is too bad since he made a collab with Hellofutureme, OSP, and Daniel Greene, who are among my favorite RUclipsrs. OSP even animated him. I wonder how they felt? Like they are really wholesome people who I doubt believes in the things he believes.
I love that people are calling him a LARPer and saying “you’ve never fought in battle and put your life on the line” as if that’s not the most larpy thing you could possibly say.
I feel the need to say that Shad would be a nutjob looser even among us larpers, at least here in europe (where larp is generaly taken more seriously, and is generaly queer friendly)
I love how Shad, despite just being a terrible person, just keeps getting himself into situations like these, which are entirely caused by his insecurities.
Lindybeige is fun. He’s actually one of the first sword guys I found on RUclips. Entertaining an engaging style and seems to know his shit. That said, now I want to find somewhere that I can find the deep lore of who beefs with who in the swordiverse
Imagine a community of, let's say, very opinionated engineers or artists and you have very nearly the idea. But the problem is that the historical record basically amounts to some books that are the only keyholes into an irrecoverable lived history. Whereas engineering or art are very well-studied subjects with a wealth of resources that can be easily demonstrated or proven empirically. Online. In a very accessible digital format.
I'm not aware of any open drama or personal beefs though. Even r/WMA or r/HEMA simply don't talk about Shadiversity, or for that matter, John Clements very much. The latter is the OG HEMA drama lolcow who is now considered out-of-touch and cultish. And he's sort of the genesis point of HEMA splintering off into a bunch of anarchistic groups who try to figure out HEMA in their own splintered groups.
There's a very much an optimistic belief in the subculture that anybody can figure it out independently and can contribute to "the art" through grassroots collaboration. I also have a mild suspicion that there's an unspoken culture of just not talking about drama that way because everybody likes to style themselves rly srs historians and martial scientists. If they think your opinion is really dumb, it's framed through the idea that your opinion is unlettered conjecture. It's very hard to just say, "this is my personal experience" because, well yeah, you're a random person on the internet.
I think they're just being studiously polite to a fault. A lot of people clearly have pride in their knowledge and abilities and should just want to spank Shadiversity in a call-out fight. Stupid machismo? Maybe. Personally, I just think they're all stuffy.

That pretentious italian guy?
he is dunning kruger effect incarnate.
Shad tried doing some HEMA sparring once years ago on video... and was not good at all. He knows hes a liar and the truth terrifies him.
Let‘s hope that Shad never gets past his crippling insecurities. If he ever loses those chips on his shoulder, he would immediatelly stop being so entertaining.
If I want to learn about what it was really like in 2023 to duct tape two toy swords to a shelf bracket, I know which expert to listen to.
i just cannot believe this dude is jazza’s brother. shad is ROTTING in his brother’s shadow
15:19 does Shad not understand that it's not his religion people have a problem with, it's his bigotry?
Eh as an ex mormon we should have issues with that cult, like all cults
I take issue with religion generally. The problem is that people like Shadiversity thinks that I'm singling him out specifically. As an anti-theist, my view of the world is that you are just not that special. There is almost no difference between how a huffy neo-Pagan behaves versus a Mormon versus a Protestant versus a Buddhist. The problem is systematic and structural. No, don't tell me how I don't understand your rich centuries-old tradition, I don't care.
@@ved2360 mormonism isn't even 200 years old yet, just 6 more years
@@chillinsquirtle
Paganism in its current iteration is barely more than a hundred.
But honestly, it isn't the pedigree that makes religion respectable. It's that Protestantism or Presbyterianism or whatever is basically a cultural default, so for a lot of people it's just the path of least resistance, not a larp or an attempt to be especially antisocial, quirky or live out an escapist fantasy. It _can_ be, but just as often as not, it's just what they were raised on.
Like I can't practically get mad at just a Joe Random Protestant for basically fitting in.
But American Buddhist, I suspect, don't actually understand Buddhism. And tons of pagans and neo-pagans will straight-up tell you they can cast spells or do Chaos Magic and I'm really very tired about hearing about yet another religion claiming knowledge of some special esoterica that lets them indulge in the same inane escapism as Christianity.
@@ved2360,
Lol. I'm an Anti-Theist because theology is harmful. Yet, some use it as their copium when a trained therapist would be better. :/
People don't like Shad, not because his of his religion, its because of his bigotry and his welcoming of Ethno-Nationalists... like WhatifAltHistory and Sargon of Akkad.
Of course, he's also a huge crybaby due to his insecurities... Jazza released a video nearly 3 months ago in which he describes his own religious trauma... and how that effects him on the emotional level... it wouldn't surprise me that Shad also has similar trauma and his way to deal with said trauma just comes out as narcissism. It sad... but... Shad is still supportive of his religion despite the damage it has done to him and his borther.
Anyone else kinda wanna see a them do battle with swords to protect the honor
Sword guy here. I think training with ill waited and bulky foam swords makes you BETTER with an actual well made well balanced sword. At least in my experience. That being said, we have a term in the community. "LARP physics" is a real thing and the games that people play foam swords with reward wonky technique and bad form. I love full contact foam swords fighting as I can take my realistic weighted foam sword and swing as if I was trying to kill my opponent.
Best example of LARP physics: we were fighting uphill against a team defending the top of the hill. Realistically, the team at the top should've most likely won since they could attack our heads with impunity. In LARP physics, by the rules of the game, headshots weren't allowed, so we won by hitting the enemy team's ankles.
@@Mercadian I have said so many times that the very nature of the idea of "respawn" drastically changed the way LARP battles go.
Honestly, Shad saying that he's friends with LindyBeige is probably the biggest indictment of LB.
As a LB fan that does dissapoint me, but I wonder if it's true friendship or Shad being weird about someone they only taked to a few times
@@Speederzzz The silver lining is that it's not unlikely that Shad is just being extremely parasocial and assuming that Lloyd is a friend without being given reason to believe that.
What's funny is this Drama is how I rediscovered your content the other day, So I guess Shad can really put good content in front of people to bad none of it is his own.
I remember seeing Shadiveristy saying nunchaku were a terrible weapon... And then proceeding to swing one pair of them with both hands like a European flail.
Bro can't even use nunchaku properly and claims theyre a terrible weapon, I don't trust him with any sort of sword.
EDIT: of course Shad is chummy with Metatron, bro is the king of weeaboos
His nunchaku was terrible. As in it was badly made and improperly used. Using both hands to swing nunchaku is actually valid method of using it.
Shad's take on european flail missed the mark as well
I used to watch a lot videos of people reviewing game swords. Shadiversity ruined it for me by ranting about The Force Awakens, huge red flag
The amount of seething commenters (probably Shad Fans) going "Oh yeah, well have you been in a WAR, SIR?! Have you fought with swords with your life on the line?!" to Sellsword makes me laugh because you know for a fact Shad's never done that either. XD
deeply disappointed that a beef in the sword community of youtube isn't being resolved with a swordfight
Shads a larper😅
Not even a great one: he doesn't show up to any of the major LARP events in my state. He did show up to one I did attend, but with over 250 people, I never saw him. A friend of mine did and (and this is purely hearsay, I can't confirm any of this is true) Shad fought my friend, lost, threw a hissy fit, and left. He never came back to that LARP, nor have I seen him at (nor heard people talk about him attending) any of the major LARP events, nor at any of the other 2 largish LARP groups.
I can't even work out why Shad's upset apart from getting outraged at nothing seems to be his whole bit these days. I actually thought he did participate in HEMA but apparently not and I guess he's insecure about it? 😅

Well done to Matt Easton and Skallagrim for choosing to disassociate from this kook.

@@MrJibbajabbawocky it’s hard to spot when the content is mostly straight forward military history.
Is it automatically assumed that you share the same political/societal views as anyone you might associate with? It didn't go ahead and was just a discussion during a video (no concrete plans) and they haven't collaborated since that I can see? The truth is that Lindybeige actually asked his community if he should even do the video with Sargon (he knew Sargon was divisive but not why) and they gave a mix of replies some giving warning and some obviously also being fans of Sargon at the time. This is kind of expected considering most of Lindybeige's content is British History, often from the point of view of British soldiers and is likely to have crossover with the nationalistic types who like Sargon.
