Criticizing Elden Ring, supporting AI art, and making slop rage bait is a great way to lose your core audience who probably only cared for the medieval content.

Because of the machicolations thing I had this realisation I knew more about castles than him and he had never visited a single castle, I stopped viewing ages ago, then he had a brief mask off moment comparing being Mormon to being black and talking about "tHe n-WoRd" in scare quotes and a weird dismissive tone I've tried to demonstrate with the typing style.

His blatant misrepresentation of what Sellsword said was so terrible. Sellsword said something like "Cutting water bottles only can tell you so much." And Shad treated that as him saying "You can't test on water bottles."

RUclips's biggest problem lies in overuse of AI.
Not only is he unlikeable, but even if he was, he has literally told his viewers to not support creators, and fosters a fanbase who believes that everything will work out as long as they don't go woke and try, so none of them are even gonna WANT to help him.

Well when a progressive company does well, they say it is a conspiracy and that it is proof they are oppressed, and therefore the poor reactionary conservatives deserve everyone's blind, total support. When conservatives do poorly, it is because the world is against them. When conservatives do well, they just say it is proof that everyone actually agrees with them and that anyone who disagrees must therefore be outcasts and wrong. But then, when a bad thing happens to a group they don't like, then of course that is when they ACTUALLY seem to pull out that dumb phrase and act like it means anything.
This would be a lot less funny though uf it weren't for the fact that the conservatives we are talking about are entirely reactionary and lack any ability to engage in media analysis or engage in actual research or critical thinking, so nearly ever property gets all 4 attacks by conservative reactionaries, and often multiple of these contradicting tactics will be used by the same people for the same properties and companies, and no one calls them on it because their viewers only care about the feeling the videos give, not whether or not the videos are true or if anything good actually comes of anything they engage with or do.

His sword stuff was good. It was of lesser quality than what you can find if you are interested in sword stuff but far more entertaining. Hell even though the characters and story of his book are horrific the world-building is honestly outstanding.
He made a Flat planet that is constantly falling within an infinite loop and this large rock falls past the planet and this is how they keep time hence Night Fall night literally falls as this stone passes the light source. It is a quality "hard fantasy" with a hard magic system. It is just that everything else about the book sucks.
He fought with Sellsword Arts and was just wrong he fought with Sakkligrim and was wrong and just an ass, he was just... strange in his objections. He was basically Sakkligrim sucks because he thinks women are cool.

Bio Of A Space Tyrant by Piers Anthony basically does the same thing and in an infinitely more compelling and sophisticated way. Although, it's ALSO full of incredibly problematic and probably self-reporting issues. And if Shad didn't use AI to write his novel, from his age, it isn't entirely possible that he read that book series when he was a teenager, and that's where his "great idea" came from.

I’d argue he could have a solid audience and still have right wing talking points , there’s quite a bit of overlap in audience with like age of empires and 40 k fans , where he falls though is his insufferable narcissism and over estimation of his own abilities.
That’s the thing about their arguments about systemic injustice. They always boil down to “systemic racism doesn’t exist, but also White people are totally facing systemic racism. Systemic sexism doesn’t exist, but also men are totally facing systemic sexism.” And so forth for each issue, until we get, “systemic injustice doesn’t exist, but White cis straight conservative men are totally being oppressed by the system.”

Apparently he left the church in age of 18-19. Which is actually kinda interesting that they keep in contact because you'd think that someone as extreme as Shad would shun him by principle. Sure, Shunning isn't a formal Mormon practice by any means(Unlike in Jehova's Witnessess for example, where it is very much enforced), but Shad "seems the type".

When has youtube censored right-wing channels? I've constantly got adds for conservative channels and have had them appear on my feed here from time to time. If a channel have enough views yt doesn't care what they talk about. This guys copping harder and harder each time, I thought he couldn't fall lower than when he whined to his brother about being a "real artist."

Honestly it's not just his politics, it's the fact he instantly foams at the mouth over the most trivial shit that isn't actually an issue if you look at it for more than five seconds.
Case in point, him screaming about Princess Peach going woke for wearing pants when even someone who doesn't play Mario games (me) could see she was in her racing outfit. It comes off forced and disingenuous at best, and embarrassingly ignorant at worst, and there are only so many excuses your audience can make for such ridiculous reactionary behaviour.
That's where he lost people with Sellsword Arts, they have an audience overlap so a lot of people witnessed firsthand that he will throw a tantrum for views when nobody's even taking about him.
I think he wanted to be like the successful conservative grifters in North America that get showered in money for complaining about gay M&Ms and it didn't work out because they have the connections and patronage to start with. He started in the sword and historical fantasy community, which does attract right wing saddos but not nearly enough to make a career out of it, so he just alienated the significant chunk of the regular nerds with his bullshit instead.
I would argue that a lot of the stuff you mention is linked to his politics, but other than that, yeah, seems pretty much spot on.
I am one of those "normal", not far right, nerds who did initially find and enjoy his earlier stuff because I like swords and history stuff.

I feel like the anti-woke conservative crowd is falling from its peak because even people in those spaces are sick of it. I think it boils down to bad arguments, bad takes, and its not coming from an authentic place it's just about money. Even other centralists and conservatives I spoke to feel sick and tired of how almost cartoony the space has become. Ben Shapiro put out a Barbie movie video last year that was so bad other in the right-wing space were deeply critical of how overblown it was. Whiny about the Princess Peach video game feels like its in that same ballpark, its like okay....who cares its a video game. So yeah if he's trying to get into that sphere of online media, I say good luck causes its so oversaturated and on the decline mostly due to how lame its become.

I subbed to Shad years ago because I liked his content on swords and castles. Even then, he made his Mormonism very open and it was pretty easy to guess his political leanings, but as long as it wasn't too explicit, it was easy to ignore. Then he seemed to think that making another channel specifically to air his extremely right wing politics was a good idea. How he could do that, then Pikachu face when large swathes of the people he specifically goes out of his way to insult, denigrate, and blame for all of society's ills up and leave is beyond me. He is the one who placed the limitations on his own audience by ensuring that the only people who will want anything to do with him are either people who are just as right wing as he is, or people who are so aggressively apolitical that they bury their heads in the sand to avoid politics altogether. The man's complaining about self-inflicted wounds.
People like shad have been primed to think they're the "silent majority" at this point, that's why they always assume they're being "censored" or ✨"cancelled"✨, rather than just acknowledging their opinion is unpopular.

I think a lot of people do not understand that you have the right to say whatever you want BUT not without consequences. If you know your opinion is not gonna be popular and you're a public figure that depends on social engagement, you kind of have to draw that line in the sand. You can have fantastic conversations about in terms of what it actually means to be silenced if you will. But the thing is no one is silencing Shad. He's channel was doing pretty good for a while he has almost 2 million subs for Peets sake. And RUclips unless you do something super egregious is pretty laidback (I mean hello the alpha male podcast community is thriving at the moment, and they post garage takes). So I 100% agree with you what's happening to Shad is the classic "F**k around and find out" he decided to push his audience or anyone who would watch his videos. He also just stopped making good videos.

This is the issue, even if you set aside the political stuff, there’s now a ton of better history content on RUclips. These guys who garnered an audience a decade ago just aren’t going to hang onto it unless they have a stellar personality or specialized expertise, & he has neither. Yeah, he got into it with Matt Easton on some HEMA topic at one point, and I was like, 'nope, I know which of these two actually know more about HEMA.' And then he started being super open being a right-wing tool, and I was super glad I'd already quit watching at that point.

When Shad is taking about HEMA things, he is relatively competent. But, anytime another creator in the field disagrees with him, he takes it as a personal insult. I have lost count of the number at this point. He just cannot take criticism. I don't know what happened to the land he bought in Australia to build his castles ... but yeah, that's what people think of when visiting Australia ... castles.

All Shad had to do was just talk about medieval siege warfare and medieval weapons and keep his mouth shut about everything else and he would have been fine.
I stopped watching him when he made a video gushing about Rurouni Kenshin about a month after the creator of Kenshin was convicted of and wholly admitted to being a pedo. Shad didn't give that entire thing a single mention, and he had to have heard about it while making that video. It was a gigantic red flag.
I used to like that guy too. I thought he was a good lil fella. He was so enthusiastic about his hobby which was charming. Dropped him after his he-man video. Was like "oh no, im not doing this anti sjw thing again".

At first I was thinking "how", because as I recall the Shadiversity channel is presented as fairly apolitical. But yeah, starting the Sellsword drama on main could do it. It must've been a wakeup call for those in the audience who don't know about his political views. Also he sheds subscribers who are there for the nerdy stuff and the replacement are right wing culture warriors coming in via Knights Watch. So even if his subscriber count were to remain the same, the subscriber makeup changed drastically and the new community is less engaged because they are invested in right wing culture war stuff more than the actual channel topic.
It was around 2018 when politics started to get into his videos... it's when I started to not like his content as other issues started to be revealed... He has drama with lots of people because he just can't let his ego down... it has started to consume him. :/

a big part of the success is that it opens doors for you. the right is always so hungry for figures to celebrate, that once you have your reactionary “coming out” (ie. you freak out at a local school board meeting, or you lose your job for being racist, or you have a grievance rant that goes viral, etc etc) you get invited on Tim Pool’s show, then you get interviewed on Daily Wire, then you appear on Fox News, then you speak at a TPUSA event, and eventually you start your own media endeavor and get pampered by the conservative hug box.

i checked shads reddit recently out of curiosity and they were talking about this, hes convinced that because subs started dropping 2 days before the Sellsword Arts video it has nothing to do with any of the controversies surrounding him, even though i for one stopped watching him much long before that. Its all just youtube randomly targeting him
Quick fact check. I’m an avid jazza watcher. He stated in a recent video that he’s no religious. So just another thing he and shad don’t agree on.
Dude started to drink his own kool-aid. He started just having fun talking about stuff, then he saw his subscriber numbers surge and then began to use his platform to become a complete narcissistic keyboard warrior. I fence and know a decent amount about swords so when he makes proclamations about how things are and how stuff doesn't work or is trash because he and his friends can't manage to make it work just got old.
There are so many reasons why his channel is failing but he doesn’t really want to hear any of those reasons. He is physically incapable of taking constructive criticism and that’s why he is where he is in life and on RUclips.
Several years ago I was a subscriber to his channel but as he would double and triple down on his opinion on various historical aspects that were debunked by actual historians with primary source evidence and his misogyny becoming more and more blatant, I silently unsubscribed and that was even before he started becoming more blatantly right-wing (but I am unsurprised he is) . I'm glad I never donated a dime to him or his channel.

I fell into the Jake-watches-Shad-videos rabbit hole four days ago, and since then, i have been getting recommendations in my feed at least every ten to twenty video suggest. Sure, plugging his horrendous book did him no favours either... but it wasn't a huge issue... until he went into the Seymour Skinner mode and declared it was the children who are wrong and not him. The r slur has been an issue for years. Beyond that in one vid I remember from a year or two back, his son messed up a shot a couple times and he straight up called his Autistic as a derogatory term.
I used to watch a lot of Shadiversity when I was younger. Then I fell into Knight's Watch because of my own annoyances with the Star Wars Sequel Trilogy. It took me a hot minute before I realized what they really had an issue with, and I basically stopped watching it since. The rage bait was exhausting and when he started dropping 'woke' constantly, I kind of wised up.
It took a while, but I went from getting recommends to getting no recommends because I purposefully ignored the channel. I watch Sellsword Arts, now, though. Win.

In a way it's terrifying that the way the algorithm work, the best way for the average person to oppose (for lack of a better word) a content creator is to simply not interact with them, since every view, every comment, every like or dislike, bumps the video up. It's inevitable that the comments become echo chambers, since everyone who doesn't want to contribute to the livelyhood of the content creator, will simply leave quietly.

The funny thing with Shadlands, he lost MANY subs there, because the original point of it was him developing his land that he bought, trying to build faux castles, and make it into like a "park" that people could use, supposedly, and wanted to build his house there. Lots of people enjoy that type of stuff. However, he stopped uploading due to finances, and now, he's decided to no longer do that, and use that channel to post cringe edits of his other videos...I'm sure he will blame youtube for the loss of subs on that channel, too, not the fact that it's no longer what it was intended for

I am another person who used to occasionally watch some of his nerdy sword content until I found out he’s a hateful weirdo upset that his brother is so much better than him in pretty much every way. It’s almost tragic because the alternate timeline is that he does the personal work internally to become a better person. Then his content would get the Liberal rehabilitation bump in popularity.
