I finally got my own Fender Custom Shop Strat. Worth every penny. There really is a difference, the wood, the pickups, the quality control and craftsmanship is just astounding.
The neck isn't scalloped though, and Yngwie is known for playing with scalloped fingerboards on his strats. Also, at around 3:05 he says that this guitar player switched to a different company and created a "Silver sky," obviously a reference to John Mayer's signature PRS Silver Sky. Yngwie, of course, doesn't play PRS (to my knowledge, anyway).
Got one of these this week, I had my doubts but my hands are playing things I didn't know I could. Worth every penny. I compared it to a silver sky, both guitars are amazing. This one has a slightly thinner neck than a SS which makes a lot of difference for small hands. Having said that SS neck is also very fast. The pickups on this sound absolutely bonkers. True strat sound with that vintage bite when needed. Silver sky also sounds amazing but it is like a modern strat and warmer but totally unique too. Silver sky pickups are super unique, dynamics are the best on those where other guitars don't even come close on dynamics. Action and setup on this was just crazy good. It's the guitar that will define my career for sure. Apples and Oranges but yes a silver sky is as good as a custom shop fender but CS fender is as good as it gets when it comes to a true original strat. Quality of CS is just beautiful. Get both guitars if you can in the long run, won't be disappointed with either. CS is that much more premium than a SS. Thanks a lot Andertons!
Love watching Lee in the final jam doubt himself , hesitate to play, then go for it and play some of the tastiest phrasing I've seen him do. Went "damn, lee" out loud. Good job man.
I saw JM live a few months ago. Played mostly his Silver Sky, but for two songs used the '64 sunburst strat. Everything sounded great! The PRS's sounded clean, clear en tight. The '64 strat though sounded more dynamic and touch sensitive, more warm and a wider spectrum. Loved that one out of all of them.
I think Pete's right when he says that you only get that "little bit extra" with the expensive guitars. The cheaper ones get you the basics and sometime somewhat more, but taking the guitar's quality to the far wall require a bit of actual artistry. Much of that is in the setup. I know this after doing several setups myself on REALLY cheap guitars, only to have then turn into MONSTERS! True that I outright modified them, but I got good enough to begin realize the possibilites; you can set up for TONE without messing too much with the feel of the axe in cases where the guitar's bridge saddles can be adjusted individually. (It's harder with other bridges.) It's expensive for companies to do this work, because it's subjective, touchy, hard to explain and communicate, and has a learning curve such that only experienced techs and luthiers are really good at it. The only substitute is to learn to do this work yourself -- WORTH IT if you invest a the right tools and use the right techniques. The bonus is that you lose all fear of your instruments because you understand them!😎❤️️🎸‼️
well I learned this stuff on the fly doing countless pub gigs through the 80's and 90's, as well as trouble shooting badly biased tube amps in the dark. It's easy, and anyone can do the basic stuff, intonation, relief and action, and once you get a feel for it, you can get a sense of possibilities in your own guitars.
Thank you both for brightening up my murky Sunday morning. The way that Pete is doing googoo eyes and holding onto the Teal model is very funny. If i get a call from the lotto office this morning i will put down an order. Cheers
Absolutely lovely. Nothing wrong giving people something to “shoot for”. You may well have someone who in 10 years started on a squier classic vibe and saves up to get something like that. It’s fun to watch, thanks for sharing guys
I just it to be said that you, the Captain have improved EXPONENTIALLY since I started watching you with Chappers, until now, seeing you with Danish Pete. You sound great man!
I ordered a Dodgem Blue Silver Sky last week. Should have it Monday. I CANNOT wait! If I could afford a Custom Shop Fender, I may have bought one, but I played 5 Ultra Series Strats, and didn’t care for any of them. The SS on the other hand, felt wonderful immediately. Gonna be a long weekend
hey mate, there's nothing between a PRS and FCS guitar; just a matter of taste. both are great instruments; and if FCS wasn't doing the relicing the guitars would cost just about the same. enjoy your Silver Sky and dont give it a second thought. btw I have a Midnight Rose one on order myself even though I own a few FCS strats.
I think Lee also sounds a better player because he used to wander off and go awol in his solo's but now, he (finally!) learned to stay within the rhythm of the beat, so to speak ... Much respect. I enjoy his playing a lot.
I got the old ones the same day as Bea, and it is one of the best strats I’ve ever played, and regularly out does vintage examples, anyone looking at these I can’t recommend them highly enough
Damn it! I just wet my pants hearing Lee's expression on the intro tune.... This man has an ultimate professional expression that is rare, really rare. I want these guys to do a professionally produced album to launch careers in any way they want it. I constantly fight which guitar is the best sounding between a tele and strat. I guess this will keep me playing my strat for weeks to capture both of these guys licks. Won't happen, but I'll try...... Thanks Gentlemen!!
The best part about Strat/tele review is that the players are almost always those melodic players proficient in blues. But when it's superstrat review it's either djent guys or guitarist who can't play.
That sound! They are gorgeous, chiming, angel harps. If Pete's not invited to play at the next Crossroads festival, it's a travesty of justice! Can't wait to hear you two with the new Eric Johnson Strat to compare.
All retailers I know say that relic’d custom shops sell quicker than non. So that leads me to assume that the people who complain about them are most likely people who couldn’t afford them anyway. Otherwise the non-relics would sell better, right?
One thing I agree fully with John Mayer and I'm not a fanboy by any means is when he says that he wanted to capture a vintage strat consistently and relatively affordably. The PRS does that and it's half the cost of one of these. No doubt these are wonderful, but so is the prs and for £2000 less.
Reminds me of my commemorative strat. Ash body with those tuners. Amazing strat and cost £900 second hand. Custom Fender pups as standard too. Look out for these if you can't afford 4.1k
I agree with the Captain, position 4 is the greatest guitar tone of all, and the one that I use 75% of the time on my Fender Custom Shop Stratocasters.
If you need help with relicing,my friend says five bottles of vodka, four cases of beer, and a weekends worth of time.Cigarette burns are $100 extra. For Firebird X type relicing, there is a surcharge to cover the bulldozer rental. The Peter Frampton" tribute relic,"which involves dropping your guitar from a flying airplane,is the most expensive, but you do get your choice of heights.
I’m excited for the day Andertons shows us a custom shop that hasn’t been dragged behind a horse on a gravel road. I know it’s makes Lee and Pete randy, so I get why they are excited, but bring a non beat up one to the studio so we can see it, must be better than leaving them in the store not being sold. Red guitars do play louder than other colours though. Red cars are faster too.
I appreciate the already relicked look from new, but some people prefer to do the relicking themselves naturally over decades of ownership. Not only do you get a relic job that is entirely unique to yourself that way, it gets "lived in" with your own hands, and not the hands of someone else.
@@JROD082384 Fair point. I actually proffer NOS guitars myself, however it's down to personal taste. The only thing I can afford in this video is Andertons Tshirt
I cant even afford new strings, been using this set for 2 yrs now lmao
lucky
I cant even afford to watch this video.
You can get a custom relic for $1500 that is every bit as good or better.
Enjoy your corona.
I don’t know if I’ve ever seen anybody look happier than danish Pete when he’s playing guitar.
I could listen to Pete just noodling around all day.
Yup! This was one of his best I reckon 😊
@Richard Harrold Well, I think anyone's playing would improve if they got to spend some practice time with Pete.
Loved that opening jam!
That intro jam was just spectacular! Lee’s tone and phrasing were just brilliant! Pete, as always brings such feel and swagger in his playing!
I literally just sat down in bed with a bunch of snacks and I get a notification for this...The timing!
Nothing crusty I hope....nothing worse than a bed full of crumbs 😳
I finally got my own Fender Custom Shop Strat. Worth every penny. There really is a difference, the wood, the pickups, the quality control and craftsmanship is just astounding.
I absolutely love all of you guys' tongue-and-cheek humor. The whole Anderton's team rocks.
Lee and Pete's playing just gets better and better!
oh lordy the tones in that intro are so good I almost cried. those guitars are proof that there is magic in the world
I was gonna say John Mayer but after looking closer this is very clearly Malmsteen inspired

Stratocasters got the 5 way in 77, so Pete was spot on.
There's a lot of "Not Available" on the site for Pete's gear.
Idea! "Sound like Pete on a budget" video. The bedroom amp that sounds "purple". : )

It’s cool to see the excitement you guys are having. Fender is the king
Just picked up Custom shop gold relic 64 strat today; and I love it soooo much!
