- We've taken another step toward determining the absolute WORST board game of all time! This Quarterfinal Update showcases all 4 games that have advanced to the Shabby Semifinal, with color commentary from Joshua Jacobs and comments from the fans showing the weaknesses of each title.
The bracket scores have been updated, so refresh those bracket tabs to see how well you are doing so far! For those that missed out on the bracket period, head to the community tab to vote on the games you want to see move on to the next round! At least that way, we'd get a banger of a match regardless of the outcome of the semis. But I think that may not be happening... Only time will tell.

My vote is that "what do you meme?" is going 4th place, North Africa will be 3rd place (too well crafted to win against the scam) and the finals will be RPS vs adultery where I don't know the end result.
I think the funniest part is that in the name itself, The Campaign for North Africa: The Desert War 1940-43, there's reference to the fact that the real thing only took 3/4 years.
The fact that a board game takes longer to play than the actual thing it's based on is so hilariously underrated. Like imagine if The Rock Paper Scissors Game took 4 hours per round. That's how absurd CFNA is.
Big Bang Theory had an episode that made fun of this with Sheldon rolling for the weather in the desert. Dry.

I still can't believe a game I've actually played is up against monetized plastic hand gestures, a poorly marketed failed swingers' tool, and a board game so complex that nobody has ever finished it.

With how conquest gets replaced with pestilence, adultery still works because... ya know
I'm hoping to see Campaign for North Africa vs Adultery. Most "bad" games you'll play once and forget everything that happened the next day. These two though, they both have something terrible yet special that makes playing them something you could never forget. That makes them worthy of moving forward.
if it's rps vs wdym, RPS takes the dub extremely easily. the real interesting matchup is rps vs adultery. adultery is mostly carried by controversy, while rps has absolutely nothing of value.
It’s not like adultery brings any value either, it’s just spin the spinner and go commit adultery. You can cut out the first part of the game and the real “fun” of the game would be entirely intact.
And Adultery the game adds on arbitrary constraints when you could just...set them yourself, no game needed. Even if it's aimed at swingers, you have to be okay with people watching first, then with having a strict time limit, then with people scoring you after the fact - including the possibility they score you low.

Adultery is a thing comparable to ragebait marketing, but RPS is just depressing
as a polyamorous person adultery does not seem fun at all
RPS vs Adultery would be an interesting final. Neither really are worth any money, as you can play RPS any time for free, no plastic or cardboard needed, and Adultery is basically a glorified version of spin the bottle, which literally just requires a few good friends and a bottle (And doesn't have to be 100% about sex). Put like that, I think Adultery should win, but not necessarily by much, solely on the virtue that RPS isn't anywhere near as horrendously gross.

I fully expect this to be the end of Meme's run. Hell I'm still in shock it made it anywhere. But to its... credit(?), Adultery's very existance is funnier than any experience I've had with WDYM.
If I just didn't have adultry losing to tic tac toe in the early rounds I'd be doing so much better. Really shows the brutality of march madness.
Yeah, I always pick the top seeds so I'd have the statistically highest probability of winning my bracket.
Imo Campaign for North Africa is such a beast it is in its own category. It might be barely playable, but there are games I think I'd want to play even less.

campaign for north africa is not a board game, it is an artistic statement.
Considering the Campaign for North Africa, the Dessert War 1940-43 clearly got that far due to its cool and unique elements, not the bad ones, which judges clearly tried to tackle here, I think it will actually go down in semi-finals and make room for the actual horrible games
Yeah I have no idea why it's even still in the running. The game is way too interesting to be the worst.
Aaaaaaaaaaand there goes Public Assistance. We had a good run. Would love to see a match up between CFNA and What Do You Meme. I had Adultery as the other finalist in my bracket, but I feel like having the most serious game versus the silliest game in the finals would be a very fun match up.
Im still a big defender for CFNA.
Its a war game that had too much bloat and too many mechanics. At the end of the day though, its a complete board game with unique mechanics.
Compared to the others, all of them either are novelty gag gifts, toys, or inferior versions.
I clicked on this video with no prior knowledge of the tournament thinking "surely Candyland is the worst," but now that I see the competition, at least Candyland has a creative cast of characters.

@@MrSkerpentinewhat I'm hearing is that candyland needs a politics and provisions style expansion pack to ensure our babies grow up playing only proper board games. Make it proper asymmetrical as well. There is no reason that the religious liquorice luminaries shouldn't get their own religion subsystem and the gumdropship troopers really should have a movement advantage during military engagements

Between these 4 games the only one I’d actually want to play is What do you meme, and of the remaining 3 the only one that I’d care to own is Campaign for North Africa.
And if I were immortal I think I could find way more to enjoy with CFNA than any of the other games, so honestly I think the final round should be between Rock Paper Scissors and Adultery.
I’d honestly hate for Adultery to win the whole thing if only because that’s just such a boring, obvious winner.
And if I did have enough partners to be in a polycule with this game would still be better than forcing them to play the other 3 options.
Wouldn't you still need hands to be able to operate RPS in the first place?

MARCH SADNESS QUARTERFINALS
The Semi Finals are true fight of the souls. The most overomplicated game ever versus the most oversimplified, meaningless pieces of plastic in the existance.
It's the ultimate chance to see whteher it's worse to overomplicate or oversimplify and overcomplicate will obviously win. It did so against the War already
I'm not so sure. RPS is literally the most pointless waste of money for all parties involved, whereas The Desert War is a unique experience even if all you do is thumb through the rule book and look at the components because you don't have nine clinically insane friends who all have 1500 hours of their lives to devote to an accounting simulation with some war game stuff thrown in as a side activity.
RPS has no reason to be here IMHO. While the RPS game is pointless, mechanically it is still sound. There's nothing about it that really should have let it beat down its competition other than the meme of "paid dlc"
Sure it's "bad" ; but it's relatively inoffensive compared to something like Capital Punishment, which I felt should be the finalist here.
Adulatory is clearly a swinging 60s game made for the times and probably best played by unmarried 20 year olds. A more adult version of spin the bottle.... Thus I thought tic tac toe would beat it...
There's genuine passion somewhere in the designing process of CFNA, Adultery has some form of target audience it may do well with, and there's something occasionally good fun from WDYM?.
Rock Paper Scissors has no reason to exist. It's just a depressing, pathetic product of capitalism.
dont let north africa take it all guys, its only downside is that its unplayable but beyond that its a cool concept and im glad it exists. all three of the others truly do not need to exist and the world would probably be better off if they didn’t. they are unplayable in their own rights.

Honestly I am just glad most of the controversial games like C Punishment and Oh Vey are out, they are not fun to talk about at all.
the campaign for north africa and Adulty have too much good in them for me to consider them bad with their main issues being, being too niche for the players

North Africa is a good board game and shouldn't be in this tournament to begin with. It may be way too complicated, but it is mechanically sound. In some ways, it can be considered the best board game ever.
The other 3 games though all deserve to be here. I'm voting for Rock Paper Scissors and What Do You Meme in the finals.

you literally can't get any more polar opposite then Camp for North Africa 40-43 and Rock Paper Scissors as one game is literally the most simple two player game ever created with it's only flaw being the game is SO simple the idea that you sold it in a "package" is silly and a waste while the other is a game so long and complicated, no one has ever played it to it's completion.
Rock Paper Scissors fills my heart with genuine disgust, but may not lend itself to an entertaining final. Much to think about.

My predictions: Despite costing money to play and being very simplistic, Rock Paper Scissors would be taken down by the Campaign for North Africa. Adultery beats What Do You Meme because of the subject matter for the former.
With those two in the finals, Adultery, despite its topic, will fall against a game that takes a VERY long time to play: The Campaign for North Africa.

I’m hoping for cfna vs what do you meme. One is meant for hardcore board gamers while the other is for casual players, and they both fail spectacularly
The comment I meant to make about Candyland versus What Do You Meme that I forgot about and ran out of time to make is that Candyland was released during a time when a company had to put their money where their mouth was and make the capital they needed to produce a product before they put it on store shelves. WDYM had a fucking Kickstarter. WDYM just wandered around the room with a steel mug rattling it around begging for spare cash. And somehow that got it on my fucking Target's shelves. Fuck WDYM.
(Note: Not digging on Kickstarter, it has brought us some amazing things and allowed many creators they funding they need to see their dreams come true. It also allowed WDYM to exist. Swings and roundabouts.)

who's playing Adultry w/randos? every polyam & open relationship I know gets extensive routine STD tests. you aren't playing Adultry at a library with strangers, you're playing it with your also-married friends. listen I'm not going to say it's a good game, it sounds REALLY boring & a great way to ruin the mood if you're actually trying to get it on, but i strongly resent the implication that polyam folks all have STDs.
