It's 100% on WB and NRS. NRS chose the meta and modes like Invasion, and WB seemed to force them to release bc of the 30-year anniversary and SF6 launch.
While yes it’s NRS product and shit, WB has the final say 😂😂😂 it’s like saying IW or Treyarch for COD when Activision has the final say on what they want. NRS can only do so much but they don’t decide the release dates. They probably do, but WB owns them so it’s not like NRS can go against WB wants if that’s their boss

Tekken 8 looks like great game not my cup of tea overall looks good. I'm playing SF6 now and moving away from MK1 for now. WB cares for nothing, boycotting, making these videos will not do anything, trust me. The only hope to get a good MK game is if the studio is sold and picked up by another company. So all these type of videos are pointless are only for getting views and grow their channels.

If you got the skins/fatality packs using crystals you've earned through levelling and character mastery, that's fine but if you swiped ? you're definitely part of issue.
Remember when Mortal Kombat had a certain atmosphere and tone that made it different from every other fighting game? No game captured it quite like Deception, which is the style of game I wish they would go back to. Doesn't have to be 3D, but damn, just give us that level of effort.
Funny u said that seeing how Deception is Ed Boon's favorite MK game and had the most offline kontent that we actually wanted and want to return. Supposedly the story expansion will pull heavily from Deception as far as the game having a darker tone, stage fatalities, stages, death traps, and modes.

@@goodbagel325There are bunch of things that they can control though. The games netcode being shit is entirely in their hands. The bad balancing, the inaccurate remakes of the old 3D era skins, the shitty story mode, the blatant lying, the lack of singleplayer content.
Sure alot of people come then and say "WB doesn't give them proper funding!" Or "WB forced them to rush the game out!" Or whatever countless of excuses that the fans can come up with to defend daddy NRS. Im sick of it
NRS is a studio under WB so whoever faults it is doesnt matter. As long as they keep doing this shit NRS as a studio and their games are cancer and its the last time im buying anything of them.
Being in the IT field, netcode costs money, and if WB doesn't cut the check, it's going to suck. A lot of people on here don't understand the business and corporate side. It's like a movie with a low budget and the director have to pull a rabbit out the hat to make a quality movie. NRS does have some responsibility, but WB should take the majority of this crap game.
I think part of the blame has to do with:
1 - NRS being part of a films company they don't understand how videogames work.
2 - being the only western fighting games developer, because there aren't many (if any) western companies making fighting games they can do whatever they want, their only competition comes mostly from Japan, but that doesn't affect them directly, some of you may argue that there's also Killer Instinct, but it's not nearly as popular as Mortal Kombat and Injustice.
3 - They don't have other games besides fighting games, because MK and Injustice are their only source of income, they need to develop tactics to make it profitable, even if they have to trick the player, a company to stay healthy need to have a good catalog of games of many genres, in order to not rely on a specific one, if that genre fails they still have others they can rely on.
4 - the players are also to blame, because they like to complain but still consume the products and engage in their shady practices, an example of that is a very popular gaming channel on RUclips started to make polls for people to vote between 4 games which one is the best, and the most voted games are the ones people complain about, and the least voted are the ones people claim that they want (the ones that respect the consumer), even though they don't like to admit, they encourage the state of the gaming industry they like to complain about, there won't be any changes if they keep supporting what they don't like, they're not giving companies any reason to change.

MKX was the last time that looked like an actual Mortal Kombat game. From it's dark tone, gameplay etc. And MKX made me become a Kano fan, his gameplay and character design was dope and badass in that game💯 And Kano from MKX would destroy all the characters in MK1. But dude I can't wait for Tekken 8. That is going to wipe the floor with MK1💯

MKX captured the essence of what Mortal Kombat is supposed to be. May not look as “pretty” as MK11 or MK1 but I rather have another MKX from them.
NRS is 100% to blame along with WB. NRS should not get off scott-free here. They made the game, developed the meta, and created trash invasions. NRS Community Managers went live and oversold every facet of the game. Invasions mode was one of the biggest overselling flops in NRS history. I feel like NRS lied to the community on several occasions in the Kombat Kasts and on twitter. The NRS Community Managers don’t even communicate with the community.
The problem are not the companies.
If they throw you their terrible microtransactions,and other stuff,and people dont buy it,they just have to eliminate them.

I also feel like a fool, by pre ordering premium edition… believed that this game would be very good… because it’s 30 years anniversary of MK, the game has been in development for 4+ years…but got on 40-50% sale two months after the release…
This is just my opinion, but MKs biggest issue is that it caters far too much to the casual player.
People get confused because they think casual means “bad” and that these games should only be made for the likes of sonic fox.
No, casual doesn’t mean bad, rank has nothing to do with it. If you are in the lowest rank possible but are learning and trying to improve you aren’t a casual player, you’re not good at the game (yet) but you aren’t as casual.
By casual I mean someone whose primary interest in the series isn’t actually the game itself, but what’s around the game, be it lore or skins or whatever.
Now, again let me clarify, I’m not saying these people are bad or indeed that they shouldn’t be catered for, my point is that they shouldn’t be the main audience you cater too IF your game is meant to be competitive.
As a broader fighting game player I tried to get into MK1 but I found it so unwelcoming if you wanted to play seriously, every space was full of people asking about skins or why their favourite character wasn’t in the game, finding anything about tech, about match ups was impossible.
On its own this isn’t a problem, the issue comes because the core of the game is meant to competitive, and when you appeal to a casual audience you’ll get one, and a side effect of that is these people will move on,they don’t care about the core gameplay of MK, something else will drop and they’ll play that.
Then you’re left with a game that isn’t properly balanced, the online isn’t great and the core, hardcore fan base is disillusioned. Casual are good for a quick buck but it’s the hardcore players that will be there years later still engaging with the game, still buying dlc etc.
If your game is competitive, you need to build it for competitive players first. The extra stuff for the casual players should be there but it should be extra, WB/NRS hasn’t done that. They’ve built a game to appeal to the most casual, to sell skins , to sell dlc and this is the result.
Not really NRS has done most of the damage to itself not the casuals and not the pro's either.
Mortal Kombat keeps wanting to reinvent the wheel with every new game unlike SF6 and Tekken.
Nobody ask for this rubberish of a game, they don't listen to their fan base at all.
Everybody was hoping to a game more similar to Mortal Kombat x or MK9 which most of the people really love.
But no they don't listen and come out with other stuff that nobody ask for or likes. They should keep the core of the game similar as good successful games and just improve upon that like SF and Tekken do.

Me too bruh it seems like when the game launched. It feels like they unlocked the beta and left it how and then updated two months later for it can be even more broken. The desynchronized in KL with good connections and then having to stay in match when connection issues are happening it’s like wtf.

Yes, NRS and WB have social media and shit, but they ARENT gonna give us the time of day 😂😂😂 you should hold the devs accountable, but in the end unless they are brought out by another company then really NRS devs could only do so much. For so long I’ve wanted to believe that it’s been WB twisting NRS’ arm and preventing them from doing exactly what they want but unfortunately that argument can only go so far.
NRS decided to make invasions, they decided not to make the krypt and make this game the first not to feature one since 2002 and NRS decided ultimately that we no longer get multiple intros and outros per character and the banter went from a three line exchange to two; it’s disappointing and really sad as an MK fan.

Just finished watching your last MK vid. Agree with most of your points.
My main gripes with MK:
1. Sluggish animations. Not fun to control as a consumer/player.
2. Block button. Getting left/right mix ups is hype and core to 2d fighting.
3. Stance change button. Useless. Its bad programming, just loop it back to original stance.
4. Fireballs not clashing. No hype.
5. The 'Dial-a-Kombo' system. Its too easy, no incentive to learn.
6. So many moves having wall bounce/ground bounce. Its lame.
7. Guest chars. Gives the impression MK cannot survive without them.
8. Kosmetics. Too many parts that could be customized but too underwhelming to be even noticed if my Scorpion is using a slightly different version of a sword.

Block button is fine and is a matter of preference and it doesn't necessarily makes a game bad
MK combo strings are similar to Tekken's. it just less strict with timing and any Tekken is 100x times better game than most MK games
What makes these 2 things seem bad is bad game design and NRS games (especially the last 2 games) have exactly that the bad game design that doesn't function properly, boring and repetitive.
MK core gameplay should just be a copy of Tekken tbh Like, for example, how combo string works(like gaps and how certain ending are unsafe but combo starters and certain endings are safe but duckable etc.) just make it 2d, with block button, fireballs, run button (like MKX) and its own juggling system. Oh, also counter hit system in Tekken is beauty, MK don't have counter hit system whatsoever they should copy that too.
The reason NRS couldn't be too transparent about the amount of content is if they had to tell the audience what it's really like, they won't buy the game. I understand the sentiment, but they lost the good faith that they had in their audience, making them think they care more about money than good will, which might just be the truth even if we don't want it to.
On a side note, Harada and Murry are also indirectly blowing shade to both MK and SF (Ninja Turtles/costume 3) for scummy microtransactions by saying their in-game content would be free. There might be some costume packs, or some extra content that might be behind a pay wall, but it's mostly cheep, and they don't have to rely on an in-game currency that costs real money.
Most people won't care whether it's NRS or WB, but they have to equally take criticism at hand if they want their player base to like them again.
I’m old school, i will not pay for cosmetics or skins in any game. These should be earned by playing the game and the better cosmetics/skins for being a good player, just like the old days. I don’t mind paying for DLC or a battle pass if it’s decent, but skins and cosmetics are a big No.

1. Boycotts don't work, especially in a case like this where the online FGC are a tiny percentage of the otherwise very casual/mainstream userbase
2. Even if enough people DID boycott to make a difference, the most likely outcome is that someone in finance at WB sees the line not going up enough and that results in layoffs at NRS to save money
3. Whether we'd like to admit it or not, we knew based on the pricing/monetisation of MK11 how things were trending. Anyone (myself included) who bought or preordered the game is already part of the problem
Fellow MK fan here also. I do get why people blame WB 100% but NRS gets some blame. All the marketing , micro transactions, shit prices on DLC is WB. But NRS is to blame for the current meta not even bothering to fix shit we want. Yeah casuals will say hahaha cope losers skill issues. But in all honesty it’s fucking annoying seeing JC all day with the best staggering and punishing me over simple block strings like bruh. Kameos only like 3 are used commonly. If it was a good FG then most kameos should work with the main cast for player expression and be more fun but no kinda barebones. Another is the piss poor communication. Don’t even acknowledge the issues we have , no cross play at launch and etc. During MK11s entire life span I was still in high school and didn’t decide to upload it. Once I graduated HS I decided to show my vids as one of the top sub-zero players online. (Sikander better than me lmao obviously but was up there) so for MK1 it would be reasonable for me to upload MK1 content more daily on the channel to catch on to the hype or whatever not wait. But with this sorry state the game is in. I’m very disappointed. MK11s gameplay was dog water imo but they got one thing right at launch. A fully functional online that works. No P2 bug , no black screen crap , no desyncs , has proper rooms , and KOTH fucking works. Now on the channel I plan to upload MK1 on the side for fun because I love the game more gameplay wise because characters aren’t as boring combo wise and not as restricted but you can’t ignore the big issues this game has. SF6 has everything right despite the costume 3 debate and maybe one patch a year philosophy but shit at least the game is fucking functional and has cross play DAY 1. I want this game to be more. It has potential to be up there with MKX with its faster pace combat (fuck off no pun intended lmao) and not slow as hell. Some characters got nasty setups to. But it’s dragged down by its shit invasions mode , bad online , horrible meta and customizations. It’s ok to have a few flaws but this shit is basic human functions man. There are so many problems with modern MK that I can talk about but that whole thing about nostalgia costumes, NRS can’t even get that right because they expect people to pay for costumes that aren’t even accurate to the past, can’t imagine Capcom doing something like that. Plus MTX shouldn’t exist in a paid game period, especially a game that has no content that they can’t even update their own store.

This is the pokemon franchise problem, every pokemon games released in switch for the last couple of years are undercooked shit (which if gamefreak/nintendo fix somewhat with paid dlc stuff overtime). Everyone complains about these games yet every single pokemon in switch earned double digits millions and each of them are breaking some records.

I stopped playing MK1 due to the kameo system. I thought I would like it and the trailers sold me on it. But in actual practice it is dog doodoo. Some kameos are just legit better than others and just the whole concept was poorly implemented. I'm hoping NRS releases an update where fights are 1vs1.
I hate to say it but people need to stop shilling out money to WBS/NRS for anything positive to change out of the Mortal Kombat franchise. MK9 was a gamble reboot that turned out to be successful. MK10, as much as I was not a fan of that game, at least had a ton of sponsorship from the player base that allowed players to contribute to a prize pool. WB stepped in on the cash prize pool and completely ruined any semblance of MK11 being a fun game because they wanted the game to be 'safe' for casuals while making sure that their profit margins were going to keep flowing in. They fucked up the story badly in MK11 and rebooted the franchise back to MK1 is when I threw in the towel.
They are banking off the legacy name at this point and that's it. If people want a positive change for the Mortal Kombat franchise then you simply need to stop giving them money. Sure there will be growing pains and there might not be another Mortal Kombat game for quite awhile, but it will be for the better of the franchise if you want to have any hopes for a better game in the future. If the shareholders cannot put two and two together, then NRS should be sold off to a publisher that understands giving their developers creative liberty over their product.
In conclusion it's WBS, NRS and the lemmings who keep buying their product because it has a shiny new Mortal Kombat sticker slapped on the front cover.

I kinda feel bad because as much as I do see all the problems with the game, I still do enjoy it as a casual experience but I don't like seeing everyone else suffer in a game I still find fun playing in. wish the game was better so everyone could have fun equally. paid for the premium edition and I was happy with it until every content creator and people on tiktok made me feel like a mug for it. I haven't since bought anything in the store though so I hope that still makes a difference from now on out

I bought the 120 dollar version of mk as well and its terrible. 2 skins for every character except johny cage. gear pieces are somehow worse than mk11. They gave us early release and just enough time crystals to buy a fatality. Not to mention no kombat pack, and the shang tsung ( pre order “bonus” ) has like 4 combos and a fire move.
i think WB put pressure on NRS since sf6 and t8 are launching around this time so they rushed the game so fast that they missed key basic things that fighting games must have. I'm really not against invasions but at least Krossplay must be available day 1 since they sell on different platform. I'm around 28 hours into the game and never played online. Last night i want to test my ability online but guess what, I can't find a single match on PC.
I agree with you on everything, tekken 8 and mk1 have almost the same price as im aware of, but the difference on its offers are so high diff. I too was exited for mk1 at launch cause i thought it would revive the mk competitive scene, but even now it looks like they dont even care about it. And if they only cater to casuals then they're also doing them bad with these prices. If the dsync issues were actually resolved then i wouldn't comment this but when you lack offline content and have issues with online? I dont even know what to say. Of course tekken 8 had the advantage of releasing on a later date, but mk could've made better offline content to compensate for the early release. I could be wrong on some cases but correct me if i am.

I don’t believe MK has a lot of players at all. It sells a lot but the vast majority play for a week and never come back.
I know the steam version of MK was terrible so maybe comparing steam numbers isn’t the most accurate way to compare, but SF6 literally gets 10x the views on twitch.

The difference between Tekken 8 and SF and MK is night and day. They have so much customization and while we know they will sell packs for items we already have so many options other games do not have.

I used to complain about nonsense changes in Rainbow Six, until i realized that the only thing I could really do was to uninstall the game and never play it again. The same way I've uninstalled MK1 a month ago.

It's weird that this is in my recommended videos, buuut i do heavily feel for the MK community. It’s like everything I’ve thought about Mk1 and NRS is articulated in this vid. Right down to getting dooped by the devs and believing in them only to now feel like I’ll never buy an NRS title again. I hate their design philosophy but my love for MK franchise outweighed that…not anymore

I purchased the game, but as for everything else I purchased from the store I took advantage of their poor development and got 5000+ free dragon Krystals by boosting all the characters mastery ranks through a game breaking cheese. Thank you NRS ;) but your not getting my bank card unless u fix the game.

Ahhh yes we have finally came into the phase of the gaming era where games have stopped improving and have begun to degrade, franchise after franchise will continue to do this as long as people buy DLC which they will why should game developers make good quality games when they can make a mid game save a bunch of money then keep you playing with the promise of fixes and oh yes MORE DLC the gaming industry particularly triple AAA studios realized they have a complete monopoly on the products in the genre they develop and that there player base are addicted this is the sad reality but it’s true

Some people don't like the obviously predatory and/or greedy monetisation systems that are now being implemented but they still don't want to miss out on buying items they find cool and that they want.
Businesses know this too which is part where the predatory argument comes in.
I don't think it's very easy or fair to just say you shouldn't be able to critique systems while buying into it because then you're essentially saying "if you buy, then stfu - you don't have a right to complain."
Or you're telling people not to buy in the hopes that things change.
But imo there's always going to be enough people buying cosmetics to make it worth charging extra, so not buying something you want in order to take a stand against a system just feels like punishing yourself in vain to me.
I just don't think it's fair to expect individuals to either sacrifice what they actually want to own or sacrifice their voice.
For the record I'm not an MK player, my perspective comes from being a valorant player who buys some cosmetics but is very aware of the predatory business tactics and extreme prices.
I like the way the game is and I like the effort Riot puts into the game overall.
The skins give me a lot of personal satisfaction and I can afford them, but I'm still not 100% happy about the price and I think I should still have the right to complain and highlight their predatory systems despite engaging with their stores.
However I do think your argument is strong and is probably more effective for actually getting the change you want and bringing people on board. But I still think buying into a bad system while complaining about it, is better than buying into a bad system and saying nothing.

Bought the 110 dollar version... Majorly disappointed... Gameplay aside: the store and invasions were enough of a slap to the face to just uninstall it. It doesn't have any good content and 0 decent rewards. If you do want a decent skin you'd have to open your wallet (again)... I want to practice and experiment in various modes and get some rewards from that but it's just not present so what's the point in playing? Unfortunately, we can only hold NRS accountable for this game, since WB isn't listening anyways. It's NRS' job to convey the feedback on their game...

I do like Diff as well, but he's really no different (pardon the pun) from most of the other MK clowns who make these kinds of videos that are not designed to truly help fix a problem, but are actually designed to help shield the developer (and keep whatever little access they have of course). WB is not going to clean up their aggressive tactics on microtransactions or their slow rollout of DLC, but NetherRealm ABSOLUTELY can clean up the mess that is this game. And if we keep hyper-focusing on the owner of the bakery and not the baker who actually made the cake, this game will stay in the shit condition it is in until it dies. I saw the Steam numbers today: over 26,000 players at it's peak down to over 2,400 in 4 months. That is abhorrent. "NetherRealm" is the perfect name for this studio because playing their games feels just like being in hell. I can't wait to get away from here.

I agree with ur points im basically a tekken bought mk1 on sale for 40 bucks and wanted a break from T7. i get what your saying. with SF6 having such a good package rich in features and well presented you can tell understanding and passion went into it and theyre doing everything a AAA studio should be doing so theres nothing to talk about.

Seems to be this growing sentiment nowadays where you're not allowed to blame devs for bad decisions any more. It's always the publishers fault.
First of all, you can't confidently say that without actually being there when these decisions are made, you have no idea if it's the developer or publisher.
Sure, if it's Mtx related it's more than the likely the publisher but there's plenty of other things that deserve criticism that don't have anything to do with the publisher for example a lot of games nowadays have awful UIs.
Take GTAV for example, when you have the little quick menu come up, you have to go through like 3 menus just to equip body armour. Take Two did not force them to do that, that's just how they designed it.

Good points Mike it’s up to the player to want to pay for all that. WB and netherrealm didn’t put a gun to the heads of the consumer to make them buy it. You could technically just pay 70 dollars for the base game and that is all no dlc no microtransactions. Just the game. Buying any of the content including fatalities just makes it seem like all the players that play the game have money to blow lmao.
