"Hey, satellite man, your time has come, your word received by everyone, and should you fall, well that's ok, you love the ones that you betrayed." I love this song! The 80's had the best music and the best music videos.
“Satellite” by the Hooters resonated with the listeners who were up to their eyeballs as I was with the Jim Bakker and Jimmy Swaggart scandals in 1987. It also resonates with those of us who have followed the excesses of Paul and Jan Crouch, Benny Hinn, Kenneth Copeland, Joel Osteen, Paula White, and the rest of the hot air artists trying to sell salvation through them, instead of preaching salvation through Jesus Christ. When these hucksters of holiness have their meeting with God in the hereafter and exclaim “Lord, didn’t we preach in Your name?”, He will say “Depart from Me, I never knew you”. Private jets? Mansions? Luxury cars? Air-conditioned shelters for cats and dogs? Really?

This video is so cheesy, and it's just perfect. I've always, always loved this song. The Hooters were never sufficiently appreciated. That was one helluva good band.
Great track from a fun band!! I watched the Thanksgiving concert on MTV in I think it was 87 or 88 with my Dad and he even thought that they were cool. He heard this track and he smiled at the parody of it all. I would love to see them live, but they don't play too many US dates, much less in the Great Lakes region
Surely the best ever treatment of televangelists! The leading lady, for want of a better word, invariably has me in stitches no matter how many times I see this video ...
The Hooters ARE a Christian band in some respects, inasmuch as they are Christians, so far as I can tell, but they can't stand US-style fundamentalism and evangelicalism. I mean, in a similar way you can make the case that Nick Cave is a Christian singer, but he has a very complicated relationship with Christianity.
In 1987 I bought the single as a kid, and was pretty sure it was No.1 material, but it only made 22 in the UK. Listening now I can hear The Who's Baba O'Riley and Boston's More Than A Feeling in there, a perfect influence without actually ripping them off!
When I first heard this back I don't know when ( 1987/8 I think ? ) I was in a bad place really having lost really close members of family .From the opening " shock " verve coupled with the innocence of a young girl stumbling on the hypocrisy of evangelism it almost felt like I was in the position of the young girl in the video emotionally/ life speaking. The lyric's " Jump in the river and learn to swim " were a real catalyst, realizing that in the end it was me that had to cope and me that had to deal with everything and carry on, which I think ( know ! ) I have. I still visit and listen to this song and it gives me as much enthusiasm as when I first heard the song at 04:00 in the morning back then on MTV before going to work down the mine. I am now in a very different and more positive place and would like to personally thank the Hooter's for the guidance that the song/ video and lyrics's gave to me and my " now " family.
Wow - what a song to bring back memories of Christmas in 1987! I was 15 when this tune came out - the Hooters were such an underrated Scottish band too

I loved this so much, my mum and dad bought me the album on cassette for my birthday. Still got it!
The best song that has ever been ever comopzed!!!!
Sorry dudes but ever is two times to much, did I mention ever again? I will never, EVER mention that world again,. Wurld
Great song unheralded genius from The Hooters again.
Heard my dad singing it one day. Same source for many songs and whole genres. My dad absorbed alot of things since the 60's
I haven't heard this song in over 30 years. I never learned what the name of the band or song was until today.
Thank you RUclips and the Hooters!
I'd completely forgotten about this tune, until they played it on the Top 10 at 10 on Key2 (local radio station) yesterday. It was great to hear just how good this song is again :o)
Sitting here in quarantine reliving some wonderful memories. You guys will always be my favorite band. Got to go to one of your concerts when you opened for Bryan Adams in PA and had an awesome time. Stay safe! 😘💖
This video is so cheesy, and it's just perfect. I've always, always loved this song. The Hooters were never sufficiently appreciated. That was one helluva good band.
The cheesy was on purpose...
Great track from a fun band!! I watched the Thanksgiving concert on MTV in I think it was 87 or 88 with my Dad and he even thought that they were cool. He heard this track and he smiled at the parody of it all. I would love to see them live, but they don't play too many US dates, much less in the Great Lakes region
i saw them in Hershey in August of '86 but i don't know why we left after the Nervous Night album tracks. we missed Adore because we were in a hurry.
This song is fantastic!!
I've always loved this song and still do
Surely the best ever treatment of televangelists! The leading lady, for want of a better word, invariably has me in stitches no matter how many times I see this video ...
Love this song the video just adds to it.
Same As Jesus he knows me .. Genesis
Why can’t they make music like this today I’m so glad I grow up in the 80s and witness it
Jesus is lord, I wish I would have started younger, by god's grace here we are still standing tall!
I am 70 and I love this song
Among the best bands, I could see live.
First heard these guys on the radio and thought "This Christian band is unusually good"
Saw this video
"Ooohhh I get it now"
The Hooters ARE a Christian band in some respects, inasmuch as they are Christians, so far as I can tell, but they can't stand US-style fundamentalism and evangelicalism. I mean, in a similar way you can make the case that Nick Cave is a Christian singer, but he has a very complicated relationship with Christianity.
@@KaitainCPS I can get behind that.
LMAO
I've been listening to this great song for quite a while. I love it!!! Cordoba Argentina.
Still one of my favourite songs of all time
My favorite song by the Hooters!
In 1987 I bought the single as a kid, and was pretty sure it was No.1 material, but it only made 22 in the UK. Listening now I can hear The Who's Baba O'Riley and Boston's More Than A Feeling in there, a perfect influence without actually ripping them off!
I can say i was going for Enywistle with the bass part....for sure...:)
very byrds with a bit of the boss
THIS IS AWESOME!!!!! I am SO glad that I found this song and this group!!!
And We Danced?
I remember this song, but never saw the video until now.........almost four decades later!
Criminally Underrated Tune and Great Video! Song still stands up after all these years.
Absolutely correct, and the message about these religious charlottes is as relevant today as ever.
Great album, as well.
Fantastic on every level
I love this track, humorous yet on point.
Was only small when this came out but I loved it even before I knew what it was about.
classic eighties
we need a satellite right now
Nostalgic and absolutely brilliant. Kids you’ve missed a trick. X
this is the best description of trumps americs
or his followers
Bloody brilliant.
Prophetic. ..."Look to the heavens and see it shine." Further, I love me some HOOTERS.
Wow - what a song to bring back memories of Christmas in 1987! I was 15 when this tune came out - the Hooters were such an underrated Scottish band too
This song is the definition of underrated
