There is no good reason this should have the 5 downvotes it got. I build catios too and my main beef with other catio builders is they don't plan ahead. You did. I love that you have a plan to roll up and remove the carpet for cleaning and the stool for holding the litter box. Compare that to other efforts where people build something, stand back and ask "Wait, I have to clean it? Now what?" Well done.
The only thing I don't like about it is that the walkway to the litter box does not have the see-through roof as well. They will get soaked in the rain when they go. Otherwise, all good.
Brilliant! They are lucky to have an intelligent creative and caring Daddy. The World would be a better place we more people like us who invest out time and no ey into our fur babies after all they are our precious companions and family members too.
It is fun to look outside our kitchen window, and see them walking on the catwalks, or in the catio. They like to come out and get the morning sun when it is out
You did a Beautiful job! It's absolutely gorgeous! Very lucky and happy fur babies. The outhouse was good idea. If there's one thing I don't enjoy looking at is the litter box.
Beautiful work! I love that you love your cats so much that you built them this beautiful catio so they can enjoy being outside while being safe. Gave me some good ideas. Thanks!
Your trick with the outdoor litter box is great and it inspired me to build one very similar. Didn't need the long tunnel, but everything else is the same as yours. It works like a champ! - thanks a lot.
I have had it over a year now, and it has worked out great. No longer is the cat litter all over the catio. I just clean the litter box once a day and that's it.
I think I would've attached the cage mesh to the inside of the framing and wrapped the outside of the framing with window screen to keep the bugs out. The space between the window screen and the cage mesh would prevent the cats from scratching at the window screen, especially if you use a smaller cage mesh that cats can't fit a paw through.
I selected the mesh because it has large spaces and gives a feeling of being out in the open so that the cats can smell and see through the this mesh very easily be like to hear sounds and smell odors keep quiet and watch the birds and so forth so that's why I selected that instead of just putting up a screen they like to chase the bugs too if they get in there
Very smart design!!!! If you're looking for other litter options, pine pellets (animal bedding) are really cheap, cleaner, work amazingly well and doesn't smell. You can also use the absorbed saw dust as mulch or pest control. Take care!😊
I tried for a mont to get my cats to use pine pellets instead of clay litter. They didn't like it at all. They started urinating in our kitchen instead. I had to with back to litter, and since then, no more accidents in the kitchen or anywhere else.
Wow - look at all that! You really did a fantastic job!!! I see you put A LOT of thought and effort into this big elaborate set up. Wonderful!!! You really thought of everything! This is an incredibly inspiring video!! I'm just about to build my own cat window box, and was looking for ideas. I wish I had as much backyard space as you have, so I could do more.
Very cool addition!! I'm far lazier - would've just switched from stone litter to wood pellets for no marks. Kitty outhouse is definitely the cooler option though!
I really love ur catio. It looks great. I do recommend to put some locks on it while nighttime if you let the cats out at night. My friends cat has been stolen while she was out at night and I wouldn’t want it to happen to somebody else
I used cedar boards (5 1/2 inches by 10 feet long) for the catwalk, and douglas fir 2x4's for the supports. All stained with an oil-based stain, redwood color. We get a lot of rain up here in Washington.
Okay thanx for letting me know. I am moving this summer and am in the process of looking at different ideas online to make enclosed outdoor secure areas for a small colony of cats I am taking with me from the city to a home where I will have some room for them. I appreciate what you have done for your furry friends.
Hi I know this is an old video but was wondering if you can answer a question for me what size wire mesh did you use to build your cat catio and how did you fasten it down? Waiting for your reply thank you
It is plastic covered wire mesh, 3 inches x i1/2 inches, and you can get it at Lowe's or Home Depot. I used a pneumatic stapler to secure it to the wood. It is easy to work with
That is really so awesome. How much did that cost you to build? How long did it take you to make it ? I live in an garden type apt (first floor) ., would love to have something small from out the window, to window... maybe about 7 ft. long...
My catio and fence catwalk took me all summer long to make. I am not sure of the cost, but it was probably close to $1000.00. I cut all the wood myself, and installed it myself. If you want one, you have to build one that will work in your situation. The cats love to go outside, breath the fresh air, enjoy the sun, and listen to the birds. They really like it at night.
This is awesome!! I really wanna build one of these cause I want to get another cat soon but my moms complaining about their litter box smelling in the house and stuff About how much would this cost to make? And how long did it take you?
I want to build something awesome like this but I have to do it by my self since my husband don’t want to help me but I don’t know how to use the tools I find this video awesome 😎 I m planing to draw what I want then measure everything then start I have wood and chicken screen 😁 so I hope works
You can buy the 2 in x 3 in vinyl covered mesh at Lowe's or Home Depot for about $60 a roll. It is easy to work with. It bends easily, and cuts with wire cutters. I looked at other materiels, and this was the best of them all.
The cats use this every day. I have another one upstairs in a bathroom also. They seem to like the fresh air outhouse. The cats really enjoy it when I get in the catio with them. Sometimes I read a book in there. I have found if I go in the catio, and the cats aren't in it, they soon will be.
They have a "cat door" like a "doggie" door that is either in a window or a real door that attaches to the outdoor cat patio. So they can go inside if it starts raining or a cold front comes in.
You know, I was thinking it would be fun to let some other peoples cats use my catio and see what they do, maybe video it, but I don't know how my cats would react. Maybe not very friendly.
It is big enough for one cat at a time. I have to clean it every day, so it stays fairly clean. As it turns out, only one cat will use it at a time. This is one of my better ideas. I have had it over a year now, and it has worked out great.
You must have more than 2 cats. Concept and design us good, so just build the outhouse with 2 of 3 tubes depending on how many cats you have. Inside I have 1 box for 2 cats and I clean it twice a day morning & 12 hours later. Outside would need to be gleaned frequently to prevent atteacting roaches etc
Mistress Crimson actually no. American shorthairs (these cats) all mostly live inside. So it is very uncommon for them to go outside, and it is a opportunity for them.
honestly, I have had 13 outdoor cats die outside by car/dogs/coyotes die in the same time ive had my indoor cats. All 13 outdoor died within the same times ive had indoors. Dogs killed two cats. So a shelter/catio is really the best bet for our old cats
Not when they were inside cats, and outside are other feral and stray cats with diseases, coyotes, racoons with rabies, mean cruel people, cars that run over them, pit bull and other dogs who like to kill cats for sport. The cats LOVE catios. They get the best of both worlds. If it starts raining or a cold front comes in while the owner is away or asleep, they can run back inside the house where it is warm and dry. Not all cat owners are so heartless as to make their cats battle the mean, cruel, dangerous world outside 24/7!
I’m a dog person but I love watching the ingenious catios folks up with, and this guys work is beautiful and clever.

Wow, that's awesome! You thought of everything. Nice enclosure but the outhouse is brilliant. Nice work!
You did a Beautiful job! It's absolutely gorgeous! Very lucky and happy fur babies. The outhouse was good idea. If there's one thing I don't enjoy looking at is the litter box.

I really loved your cation. Thanks for sharing.
I've watched a lot of catio videos, but this guy really has some ingenious ideas. I like the lazy cat too (makes me feel like a nap right now).
This can’t be your first try!!!! Wow, I agree. I’m stunned by your planning on cleanup. 👏👏👏👏👏
That's actually really smart. I like the fake grass too
I have had it over a year now, and it has worked out great. No longer is the cat litter all over the catio. I just clean the litter box once a day and that's it.
This is a brilliant idea! I'm looking into building a catio and I've been wondering how to prevent "litter scatter." I love the outhouse.

That is the coolest thing ever!!! Fantastic design and execution!!
This is an awesome plan!! I love how you did this to help yourself and them, too! Yay!!!
Perfect solution. Really great catio!
oh wow just brilliant, I am sure my cats are going to appreciate your innovation when I add it to their catio!
Cool really nice design. Thanks for sharing.

Douglas, this is a fabulous idea. I'm going to show it to my husband. We have lots of coyotes around us so our cats absolutely cannot get out.
I really like these catio ideas, especially the catiobox! Thanks for posting the video.
Beautifully thought-out design!
Very cool addition!! I'm far lazier - would've just switched from stone litter to wood pellets for no marks. Kitty outhouse is definitely the cooler option though!
That is so clever! Don't suppose you feel like popping over to the UK and knocking me up a 'catio' and 'outhouse'?
No, but you could build one like it for your cat.
Excellent! Very well thought out. Thank you.
Ingenious, great solution and it gives them privacy!
That outhouses is Genius. That is what would like to build.Thank you for sharing.
I really love ur catio. It looks great. I do recommend to put some locks on it while nighttime if you let the cats out at night. My friends cat has been stolen while she was out at night and I wouldn’t want it to happen to somebody else
You're amazing! Everything turned out fabulous!!
Thanks
its fantastic catio really ... gud job
Very clever and well-thought out! Pretty cool, indeed!
Funny how cats love boxes!
Well thought-out design, thank you for the ideas!
such handsome cats! great diy work!!
Fabulous and thanks for sharing
That's great! Lucky kitties!
Excellent idea, lucky cats...only thing I’d want more is mosquito netting and we’d be AOK
Great idea! Very nice and creative.
very awesome, my outdoor cats might even like it
Good job. I like it. Litter box seems a bit too deep, but if it's working then you solved all your problems.
The good thing about it being deep is that the litter doesn't get flicked out when they cover their business!
Brilliant!!!!
Great work. This is awesome!!!!!!!
Or they have other catio you tube videos and are jealous this guy is smarter and more creative than they are!
Wonderful work...!!!
This is an amazing add-on! Great job. What kind of wood did you use? Finishing?
I used cedar boards (5 1/2 inches by 10 feet long) for the catwalk, and douglas fir 2x4's for the supports. All stained with an oil-based stain, redwood color. We get a lot of rain up here in Washington.
So thoughtful 😻
Amazing! Love the outhouse idea!
Super cool! Really clever!
Thanks. One of my better ideas.
Nice job Douglas. Well thought out and executed. Thanx for sharing to give us other cat lovers ideas for our kids. Is that cedar you are using?
Cedar catwalk planks, and douglas fir 2 x 4's for supports.
Okay thanx for letting me know. I appreciate what you have done for your furry friends.
That is a serious set up 👍
Amazing, can you come and make me a Catio and Catio outhouse? I live in Canada! Love it, kitties are happy, I'm going to find someone to make me one.
Wow,you sure thought of everything,so nice!
Hi I know this is an old video but was wondering if you can answer a question for me what size wire mesh did you use to build your cat catio and how did you fasten it down? Waiting for your reply thank you

SMART!!! Very, very smart!
Awesome idea!
This is so fantastic ! My cats will kill for something like this
That is such a good idea. Can you share the plans for the catio and the outhouse?
I just thought about it for about a week, then got to work on it. If you can build a box out of two x fours, you can do this.
I love the cat bathroom///genius
I got tired thinking about all the work making it. ;)
That is really so awesome. How much did that cost you to build? How long did it take you to make it ? I live in an garden type apt (first floor) ., would love to have something small from out the window, to window... maybe about 7 ft. long...

It's so beautifully amazing !
I'll bet you had fun making life easier !
Genius.
Bahaha that's amazing! I'm jealous this is awesome!
Love it!
You are so smart and inventive~! Where did you get the corrugated plastic top?
They have it at Lowe's and Home Depot. It's $20 for a 4 foot X 8 foot section. It comes in clear, and several colors. Mine is smoke color.
Thank you!
Ingenious!
That’s such a great idea!
This is awesome!! I really wanna build one of these cause I want to get another cat soon but my moms complaining about their litter box smelling in the house and stuff
About how much would this cost to make? And how long did it take you?
The outhouse is one of my better ideas. I built it for I guess $200 or less, and it took 2 weeks.
Won't work in Houston unfortunately. Our high humidity and high temps most of the year means the litter would grow bacteria like crazy.
Cool work!
That is extremely cool!
I want to build something awesome like this but I have to do it by my self since my husband don’t want to help me but I don’t know how to use the tools I find this video awesome 😎 I m planing to draw what I want then measure everything then start I have wood and chicken screen 😁 so I hope works
Love this you need to build them for other people my cats would love this💕
Love it
Can't believe you didn't give them a tread mill and a sauna with hd 3d cat videos in 4k with surround sound
Haha - that's brilliant!
Genius!
This is genius.
Smart man
Amazing!
Thats amazing
Purrfect
That's awesome. Where did you get the green siding? Is it metal?
You can buy the 2 in x 3 in vinyl covered mesh at Lowe's or Home Depot for about $60 a roll. It is easy to work with. It bends easily, and cuts with wire cutters. I looked at other materiels, and this was the best of them all.
So creative and really smart

Would honeycomb wire be strong enough to protect against predators like dogs?
If you mean chicken wire mesh, I think it would be OK.
Are the cats stuck out their?
They have a "cat door" like a "doggie" door that is either in a window or a real door that attaches to the outdoor cat patio. So they can go inside if it starts raining or a cold front comes in.
I'm 1000! Thumbs up!
Can my kitties come for a respite?
You know, I was thinking it would be fun to let some other peoples cats use my catio and see what they do, maybe video it, but I don't know how my cats would react. Maybe not very friendly.
smart guy you are. yesits cool
Scoop43, do you still have all of those fat lazy / adorable cats?
No. I am down to three cats now.
10 thumbs down? Must be cat hater so...
I cannot understand 3 thumbs down. Simply ridiculous
You must not have cats or a catio. Or you're just dumb.
...WILL YOU MARRY ME..LOL
Your simple closures on the doors really concern me. Anyone could open it and let your cats out or steal them. I'd have a padlock on it.
It has been 5 years since I made the outhouse, and it hasn't been a problem. It is in my backyard which is fenced in.
meow
looks nice but i think that the litter box is to big or to wide for that small space for ur big fat cats
It is big enough for one cat at a time. I have to clean it every day, so it stays fairly clean. As it turns out, only one cat will use it at a time. This is one of my better ideas. I have had it over a year now, and it has worked out great.
alejandro kin
Way too small!!!

Wow. Wow. Total cruelty to an animal that needs and wants to be outside.

0 indoor cats dead vs 13 outdoor lol same timeframe!
