This is the closest park unit to my home, and my kids and I love the diverse ecology this has to offer. The visitor center does a fantastic job of explaining the pitcher plants as well.

That's a great park to be close to, especially if you have kids. Agreed, the visitor center was great!

Daddy-long-legs are arachnids but not spiders. They are a type of harvestmen (order Opiliones) and are harmless. The turtle was a young Three-toed Box Turtle. They hatch out in August or September and are very secretive in their first year or two. You were lucky to see a juvenile.

Wow. This place has some unique ecology! Never heard of the cypress knees.

Yup, Cypress knees were new to us as well and we first heard about them at Jean Lafitte.

That's a grand daddy longlegs, not a spider.

Grand-daddy long legs, supposedly the deadliest spider, but their mouths are so small, they’d have to be positioned in a weird way to ever be able to bite you. Anyways, that’s what I’ve been told. I can’t walk out my door without seeing one.😕💐💐☺️ thanks for another great video.😀

I need a lot more of Matt channeling David Attenborough in these videos.

Matt, that's a Daddy Long Legs. They rob other spider's webs and prey upon many different types of spiders.

Mosquito season in Texas is from April till October. DEET will be you best friend in these situations! Lovely piano music that I recommend you cut by 30 dB when you do your voice-overs, so you won't lose sound continuity. Also, fast dissolves between cuts in the same scene won't jump out at you so much which can cause visual problems with some people. Great content, keep'em coming, and above all else - Safe, and happy travels!

Thanks for the feedback! Some people don't like music under voice so I'm still experimenting with having or not having music under speaking parts. In this video I also experimented with leaving in a little more of the nature sounds instead of covering everything with music - usually, that's hard because it's usually windy out in nature.

@@AdventurousWay I also liked the ambient nature sounds too! I've found that the best wind screen for mics is a Dixie cup! Just cut a hole in the bottom of the cup and slide it over the mic and you have a wind screen for you mic that will work quite a bit better than those "furry" ones you see in the advertisements. Try it, and let me know what you think. Safe, and happy travels!

In southeast Texas, mosquito can be from November to October, depending mostly on recent rainfall. Freezing temperatures, if we have them, do not deter our mosquitoes.

@@daleparish3087 Wow, the whole year is filled with skeeter's? When I lived in San Antonio, we had them mostly in june through august.
