Gravity Circuit is one of the best games this year. Maybe even the best indie game this year. As a result it'll probably sneak its way into some people's goty lists. Here's what makes the game stand on the same level at titans like Final Fantasy 16 and Tears of the Kingdom
Songs Used In order: (all from Gravity Circuit)

    Theme of Trace
    Overture of Bit
    Deletion Duel (cable ver)

Side Note: I still can’t believe they haven’t followed up on Mega man 11 at all yet, since it was the best selling game in the entire series (Like most Switch games are respectively) You’d think a 12th game would at least be a wip by now…

It feels like Capcom is trying to do an overhaul with the entire series by trying to get out as many legacy collections as possible for their major releases. By the time they're all released, people will have access to previous games in the different series, making it more feasible to do a wider variety of sequels. I can see a Mega Man 12 in the future, but I don't think that's a priority for Capcom at the moment. They may want to do something different with the series (whether it be Taisen or a sequel to a different subseries is most likely imo).

I absolutely love this game, it's everything I want from a game in general, creative and fast-paced levels, extremely challenging but also fair and fun bosses, but most of all, this game actually made me feel an acomplishment when I completed it. A thing with modern games nowadays is that they're very simple, very automated, but Gravity Circuit actually makes good use of it's mechanics and pushes them to their absolute limits to make a very mechanically appealing game to people like me who enjoy games with lots of depth. This analysis was great, congrats!!

"Gravity Circuit feels like a game made by developers with a decade of experience"
I like to think it's more of what you said earlier when you said either industry veterans or gamers who have picked up a lot of game design sense, and I think it's the latter.
And I think that's the best part. The Indie Scene is BLOWING UP with all these new dev studies who are CLEARLY comprised of gamers who spent most of their lives gaming and learning about games and UNDERSTANDING games and why they love games so much, and making games that are basically compilations of everything they love, and you can TELL.

      @mhswoocer  8 месяцев назад +6

Thanks for the compliment! Time varies a *ton* depending on how much my idea has solidified. For example when I wrote my chained echoes video back in march writing took me about 2 weeks and I went through several different scripts before I had something I was really happy with. But I think on average it probably takes about 3-5 days to write these videos. The majority of that is spent on formulating the idea and making a solid outline on what I want to talk about. It all comes down to the idea and the outline, those are the most important parts to me. If you've got a good idea and you structure the script well with a good outline, writing the actual script will be a breeze.

Really, this game gives you so many toys and lets you play with them to your heart's content. Most other games would simply have these things not affect bosses, or prevent you from combo'ing bosses- but not Gravity Circuit!

I still can't believe how brilliantly designed the stages in this game are. I think the best example of this is the section Junkyard stage that leads up to the giant Mech. it's subtle, but the more you play through it and go from the checkpoint to the boss over and over again, you start to notice a lot more airborne foes and foes who you need to jump at and high kick to beat, as well as the final two obstacles of the course which you need to slide underneath and then high kick to pass. this would mean absolutely nothing if the core mechanics of the mech fight weren't high kicking and sliding. it's little things like that which make this one of the best designed platformers I've seen this year, right next to Pizza Tower and Super Mario Wonder.

all i see in the level design is spikes and pits and i just hope that health bar in the corner isn't made superfluous

As great as this game may be, I don't know if it'd be a contender for GotY, given how biased it can be in general anyways. But also, to me at least, this game just looks like a fine tuned MegaMan/X/Zero inspired game, ultimately. Not saying that's a bad thing, because we definitely need more games like this to scratch that itch from those respective genres; however, I just don't know if it's GotY material, in that sense of it actually standing a chance against the Triple A games unfortunately.
Still deserves all the support though, because indie devs are truly the backbone of the gaming industry nowadays.

My only complaint is that the secrets are too easy to find. You find one, learn that walls can be destroyed and if you don't realize that the breakable walls have a slightly different look, you go around punching everything until something breaks open with no consequences for doing so.
Hash's stage at least mixed it up by making you climb walls and take leaps of faith into pits, but other than that, it's all the same.

I enjoyed the demo and love the Mega Man Zero/ZX games, so I plan to start playing it while recording for uploads.
Just trying to find a good time to squeeze it into my game rotation because I have so many games I'm playing and featuring.
Probably after I finish Sonic Frontiers.

Been playing this and 30XX and I gotta say at first I hated Gravity Circuit cause I had no understanding of the levels to enemy placements to bosses beat it anyways came back to it after giving it a second run through and now my view has changed and this video sums it up at best 👌

I mean yeah. I'm sure this game is great. I'm a huge Mega Man fan so I would probably love it. But Baldur's Gate 3 is hands down the best game I've played this year. It's probably the best game I've played since 2004 lol. I love these indie devs though. They're filling the forgotten and underappreciated genres with modern bangers. Pizza Tower is another game thats easily one of my favorites this year.

style of game design that introduces mechanics slowly became very popular because of the way the very first Super Mario was designed. Its Nintendo's 4 steps to level design, and very important for level designers to learn and use in their own games! (doesn't have to be followed exactly, but a useful tool when thinking about level design)
