GSBs ain't that sensitive bruhh.. you don't need to put a disclaimer after every 4th min Also, GSB cuisine has not been showcased at all in the mainstream media..I'm glad you guys did it❤❤
GSBs are one of the most progressive lots of the Bhramins. Apart from the fact that some of them eat meat - predominantly fish, they do have a few who are hardcore vegetarians. Usually worshipers of Lord Rama, in Mumbai the community has a big temple in Wadala, opp. the famous Albela Hanuman Temple and also host a big 5-day Ganpati festivity near SNDT college Wadala - near Kings Circle Station. Apart from the must see very big idol (one of the largest in Mumbai) decorated with kgs of gold and silver, they serve a must have prasad meal. Their contribution to Mumbai has been some awesome Udipi style pure veg restaurants, they pioneered Idlis n Dosas in Mumbai. The Shettys of course are now dominant in this game. However, the food will taste distinctly different in a GSB owned Udipi versus a Shetty owned. The latter is tweaked a bit for masses while the former is about sticking to the traditions and a kind of take it as it is and enjoy. Also, they form part of one of the most progressive communities - both financially and as professionals. You will find then atop most industries especially as professionals. Just like the Parsis, you will see GSBs at the top of their game and are grounded in values and culture. They are religious lot so food at festivals revolves around prasad to god hence vegetarian.
Recently discovered The Big Forkers and I have pretty much binged through all videos. Love the content boys! Also, after watching these guys I have lost interest in every other "Food Review/Vlog" show!
This would one of the best episodes of The Big Forkers for me due to the fact that it was so natural, felt as I was with them, normal chit chat with in depth discussion about so many cuisines and culture in general and VEG food :D Felt bad by the fact that Sid was clarifying many times , even though this channel is for amazing foods only, but I can understand Looking for more episodes guys
Saraswat Brahmins are those Brahmins who used to live on the banks of the Saraswati river. When the Saraswati river got extinct/dried up they moved to the Goa, Bengal, and Konkan regions. The Saraswat Brahmins eat river wish that has scales on it just like Bengali Brahmins and Bengali Brahmins are also actually Saraswat Brahmins for eg. Mukharjee, Chatterjee, Banerjee, Ganguly, etc. This history was told to me by my grandfather.
Love that you guys are shedding light on the lesser known culture of the Saraswat brahmin community! Quick 2 cents: 108 brahmin families were supposed to have moved from the Saraswati river basin and settled in various parts of Goa. The etymology of some of the municipalities show that history as well Salcette / Xaxatti - Derives name from 66(sahasasht) families that settled here Thiswadi - Derives name from 30(thees) families that settled here Bardez - Derives name from 12(barah) families that settled here Could be wrong as well, this is what my grandparents told me
The balance of Risk ( Unapologetic edit showing 3rd Camera man/ Veg break fast ) + Respect ( Multiple disclaimers/ blending in not standing out with the location vibe) highlights your personal and the show’s journey over the last year….Loved the Raw vibe….The boys played well with Jhatkaoing with multiple matkaoing ! PS : A big callout to the sound guy trying to catch shanky’s andar ki baat
It's really nice to see someone talking about our cuisine, And in most of GSB families including mine all these poha's and halwo and karm is served in the afternoon for lunch and not for the breakfast on the day of Diwali ...
Nice to see our GSB veg food of Diwali being represented. Good job Shubhra. The host must have really pissed off people in the past for all these disclaimers 🤣
Thanks for showcasing our cuisine…Since the GSB community is spread across 4 states of Karnataka,Maharashtra,Goa and Kerala,So our cuisine has an influence of the local tastes which differs from state to state..Also some of us are Pure Vegetarians
That was a really informative episode about GSM community. There is an another community in Goa known as Daivadnya Brahmin community. Hope to see you guys explore their cuisine as well as I belong to that community 😂

You guys rock... On a lighter note, your bechara writer does he feel left out........ Cause I doubt Sid and Shanky follow any script at all. Always looking forward for your next episode
Quick question guys, does she run a mess in Goa? Or is she more of a food anthropologist? If she runs a hotel can you please share the address. Please!!
This video Reminded me of home(I’m based in Sweden). You should definitely try non-veg GSB food. But there are hardly any restaurants serving that :( so like this video home cooks is the only option.

@@SidMewara Will look forward to it, if there's scope for an episode. Fish curry tastes best in those earthen pots. Thank you for coming up with this show on the whole.

All of the points mentioned do not make them progressive. Being proud of their Brahmin caste makes them highly regressive.
