Adam i personally loved using the 8kx 60hz mode especially when i had my previous 3080 graphics card. Much better than motion smoothing artifacts at a locked 45fps imo. I agree it sounds counterintuitive but yes lower Hertz options are fantastic for simmers.
My guess is you will love the 72Hz mode then. I could easily see myself using it, but there's really no need with AMS2. I need to try it in MSFS where every little helps!
@@AdamsSIMporium well i had an opportunity to test the Crystal for a few days and i thought it was fantastic so i am just going to save some cash for the 12k and trade in. For msfs i used vr flight sim guys reccomended PimaxXR lock to half framerate option and it is oddly very good unlike traditional smoothing options.... even tho i can get a locked 60fps on the 8kx with a 4090/5800x3d 32gs ram. tested msfs flying heli low around Newyork for example. 60hz is slightly smoother but 45 locked is a little bit more consistent. Tough call really. Sorry for rant cheers
They should be at CES 2024, just got my hotel and CES registration done. So I'm looking forward to getting a sneak peak. I saw them when they were demonstrating the Crystal at their booth last year, and decided to keep my pre-order then when I demoed it. I suspect if the 12k is as good as it should be, I'll be so tempted to upgrade, probably a bad idea to demo it, but I'm too curious. ;) @@AdamsSIMporium
@@frankzappa2274 I tried locking to 45 similar test, where without the lock i was 50 fps, it wasnt as good as the aero with motion smoothing, i saw no real change unfortunately, tilting the wings while looking at the ground there was still blur. Apparently motion smoothing is being fixed and will be available in a few days
A lot of people don't understand the use case for 72hz. It comes down to FPS matching your refresh rate on your HMD. To maintain 90Hrz and 90FPS on a SIM title is really really really really hard, even with a 4090 you are running the settings on medium to low. Oculus and HP used motion reprojection to get around this, meaning you could run your refresh rate at 90hz but have your FPS at 45. (Half the refresh rate) and the software would make it super smooth. Pimax has smart smoothing, but it does not work at all like motion reprojection. So the goal is to get the FPS as close as possible to the refresh rate and it's so much easier to hit it at 72 than at 90. When you match FPS to refresh rate (without reprojection) its butter smooth. Would love to see Pimax implement a functioning motion reprojection solution, but I won't hold my breath.
No, I don't use lenses personally. When I've been sent them before, I try out the blue light filter ones and my bro tries out actual prescription ones for me. VR Rock should be sending me some to try out soon!
I'm like you, I see distortion in VR Rock lenses and chromatic aberration all throughout the view. I've decided maybe now is the time to get contacts for lenses instead of glasses and trying different lens inserts.@@VladMereuta
@@marcusdambergeri received my Hons vr lenses and with these there is no distortion, they work great. The only downside is you need to use the thicker padding because the lenses stick out a bit but I was using that padding anyway when wearing glasses.
Are you part of Beta to have access to the 72Hz driver update? Being part of Beta team aren't you under NDA prohibiting posting the reviews of unfinished S/W?
Do you think you are massively loosing out on sense of speed and general awareness of other cars around you by dropping field of view from 8kx to crystal?
HI Great video, still waiting for mine to update to give me the option, wonder what it would be like on MSFS 2020
Thanks yeah it would make more sense in that!
Hi. Great video. Can you tell me your specs please to run the Crystal as you have it. Cheers.
Hi, yes I have a 4090, i9 13900k, 32gb, all running on NVME drives.

Yeah let's hope we see some news about the 12k soon!!!

people might not like it but your computer loves it especially if you're poor and you can't afford a 4090
Yes great to have the option and I'm sure would get used to it. It just is more obviously a jump down than the 75 mode on 8kx is.
Are these framerates achieved using dynamic foveated rendering? Or is that something that has to be, or is not, supported by the game?
No, dfr not on and doesn't work in AMS2 anyway sadly
are you using the vr rock in the crystal?

I just received mine but there is a huge distortion when using them, I'll stick to my glasses for the time being.

No 72hz for me ! Only V1.3.0_au0915 and no update
Yeh I hadn't realized I'd been sent it early. I guess just have to be patient sorry.

Some updates I've got early, maybe this one too, but not under NDA, they are happy for videos :)
i dont see any update is this beta ?
I guess it hasn't rolled out to everyone just yet
Do you think you are massively loosing out on sense of speed and general awareness of other cars around you by dropping field of view from 8kx to crystal?
I don't feel any loss in sense of speed. I felt a little loss of awareness initially, like on day 1, but I wouldn't want to go back.
