Pretty impressed with the XZ2 it's a good phone! But it will be tough sticking out in a crowded market. Also, the 4K video clip where I show HDR. I mixed them out. The first one is WITH HDR, the second is without. Thanks for watching!

Awesome vid man! The thing is, I think that's the problem with companies like LG, HTC, Huawei, Sony etc. All these companies out there make amazing smartphones, but obviously these bunch are among the underrated because there's nothing special about them... I'd rather go for a OnePlus over anything - because of it's flagship killer nature. Google has the tricks up it's software and camera; Apple has iOS; Samsung has their ecosystem and hardware innovation, etc. So yeah, that's the problem I think.
I think Sony has done a great job; like with their speakers and screen and all - but the price is too high to cut it I think... The same goes for LG and Huawei and HTC.
Unfortunately, I'd say a company like OnePlus has just taken these companies' position and market space. So yeah. Big shame really that amazing phones like the XZ2 just don't really get a chance to shine!

It does look very good especially the camera. A shame Sony always has to screw things up somehow. Why not include headphone jack? And also why not use the same placement of the camera lens and fingerprint scanner of the compact variant with the flash inbetween just to differentiate them a little bit? That fingerprint scanner in the middle is actually as bad or even worse than that of the S8/S8+

let's wait and see what Sony will bring with the xz2 premium
here's what I know so far
      4k display 5.8 inch ✓
      3500 battery ✓
unfortunately no headphone jack just like the xz2 👎
      probably a 6gb ram
      30% more brighter ✓
      I forgot the other things

0:30 - A device this size feels really comfortable to hold in your hands.
0:57 - It's not a very comfortable phone to hold (and that's because it's a little bit top heavy).
Contradicting your own words in the same minute.

It's amazing when you discover something that was taken for granted.
This is a review for a cell phone and the real education I took away from it was the simple idea of using a physical button to take pictures. I was a late adopter and I have just thought having to use the touch screen to trigger the camera was a concession to progress that I had to adapt to (and an awkward one at that.)
Kudos for a simple editing choice that provided me with a handy solution to my shakey snapshots.

and even more comfortable in hands than XZ Premium... now i have an XZ Premium, and I bought XZ2 recently, and compared them both... XZ2 is more comfortable in my palm... also TBH.. the screen is so gorgeous that i never seen in a Sony before... it has a better and deeper blacks.. contrast and brightness! overall is it's good step from sony.

I think it's a great phone, but for some reason it seems like 90 % of people will just pick up Samsung or iPhone for some reason. Marketing, brand recognition, or whatever it is but it's so difficult for all the other great manufacturers to sell their devices these days...

    • @ryugalaw
      @ryugalaw 6 лет назад

Marketing and Carriers control the market... Sony has a long history with carriers especially in the USA, which has a big market. This history keeps preventing Sony from selling well.

    • @mikldude9376

Nemanja Kostic i dont think its that mate ,
Some people do like to say that others do not buy sony phones because the other big companies have better marketing , and while to a very small degree that may be truthful , but i can tell you my galaxy phones i have owned since 2012 have way more features .
As i sit here typing on my full size illuminated keyboard and mouse that is running via a samsung dex station from my S8+ that saved me buying a new pc for example ,
it also has a head phone jack and sd card and wireless charging ,
the galaxy also came with a bunch of accessories in the box , and apart from all that , it is a very good phone .
While some may put value on one single feature , some of us , and actually i would say most of us like an all rounder that gives us more value,
the camera is not the absolute best on my S8+ , but it is still pretty good ,
add the vast array of features , some of which i still haven't even mentioned , and the galaxy models are when you add up the pros and cons still a very compelling device even if you are not fond of one or two features .
Even on my old 2012 galaxy note 2 , wireless charging was available as an option , and even then you could do so much other stuff with that phone , many phone makers even by todays standards would have their heads spin trying to match it .
taking nothing away from this sony , it actually looks a good phone , and i would not even mind giving it a go myself ,
but it is just not so compelling compared to a bunch of other flagship phones on the market today .
i might mention some of sonys models the build quality was also lacking , from memory the plastic sides of the xz premium cracked when bent , while people do not go around purposely bending phones , it does sorta show sony cheaped out a bit on the build on that model , if i remember correctly one of the z5 models had a plastic lens , again probably not a deal breaker ,
but it does show that sony has on occasion dropped the ball/cheaped out on build quality when other brands did not .
myself i`m looking forward to seeing how the xz 2 premium turns out , i think this might be a good one .

    • @ryugalaw
      @ryugalaw 6 лет назад +2

I totally disagree with you. As Sony had most of the "World's First", and while I think the Samsung has been making great phones since 2015, many of its older phones are just cheaply made of plastic and not really waterproof. And the XZP never cracks when bent, the one that did crack was the XZ.
Now, I do believe that Samsung has a give-as-much-features-as-you-can policy, but this is done by sacrificing quality, like a laggy experience and a useless un-thoughtful Bixby Button. Sony may hold on some features but that is because they tend to perfect the feature before they release it.
I have no problem with Samsung's policy nor with Sony's actually, both have their audience and fans. However, the difference in each phone's fandom is truly the marketing. And that is something we're already living... For example, how many ad have you seen on a RUclips video for Samsung? Now how many have you seen for Sony? Another instance is that even local Networks here in my country, and I'm assuming in a lot of other countries, are sponsored by Samsung while Sony has no appearance on TV at all. Not to mention the "Samsung sent me a package" videos, etc.
And as I mentioned before, the Carriers v Sony controversy really hurt Sony's sales, especially Verizon.
To conclude, I'm liking the way Samsung has been going after the Note 5. However, I also think that Sony's progress is on the right track. And I've loved a bunch of their phones like the Z5, XZP, XZ1, and now the XZ2.
P.S. Promotional Video is already out of XZ2P on SonyMobile's site, if you wanna see it.

I just got my Liquid Black today, it came with the EC270 2in1 USB-C/3.5mm jack adapter, super thick TPU case (turns the round back to flat) and basic Sony BT sports headphones. My only real gripe is the overall thickness, put a case on it and it solves the wobbling/sliding issue but the thickness may bother you. But overall, it's a great upgrade from my overheating Z5. Great review btw. ☺

Great video! I appreciate honest reviewers like you.
The only drawback about this phone is the lack of headphone jack, to me.
It is indeed, a solid phone with blazing fast performance that just flies. The camera performance is also great, and man, that display, super gorgeous to look at. Oh, and I don't care about this phone's haters, but this phone looks amazing to me. My XZ2 looks stunning in green (that actually looks like blue almost all the time).

  • @the_matchless
    @the_matchless 6 лет назад

    That thinking shirt lolz
Respects man you've done a great review unlike many others who find it very convenient to run down on that daringly different phone. What really really surprised me throughout the review was how correctly and rightfully you quickly and efficiently compared the right device with the XZ2 in order to highlight where it stands out and without over doing it too. For example, screen compared with P20pro, camera compared with the S9, the battery life compared with the P20pro. Well yes man it really is that beast of a battery of 4000mah saving the day for the P20pro as otherwise it is the most inefficient phone while the XZ2 is the most efficient, even more than the S9+ with its amoled display. Yes the phone hasn't been given it's due credit. Good to see you stand out and give it the due credit. Once again great work keep it up. 👍🏼

I really love Sony phones, but I've always went back to Samsung because of the cameras but it looks like Sony is getting back on track.
When I had the Xperia Z3 I was impressed how fast and smooth that phone was and battery life has always been amazing. The Full HD display RGB is sharper than many people think, let's assume that each pixel has 3 subpixels instead of 2 of Amoled (consider almost 7M subpixels vs 8.5M in galaxy s9, not that much difference) and for me Sony IPS displays are among of the best, especially because you have one less glass layer than Amoleds, looking like the screen is popping out of the phone.
True that this phone has nothing unique to stand out from the competition but given my awesome experience with Sony, I would give a try.

I'm glad Sony has kept the physical two-stage shutter button on their phones. I wonder why no one else does that, it's a really useful feature (unlike stupid assistant buttons). And they should have kept the fingerprint scanner integrated inside the power button, that was a really cool idea.

I get the point of fingerprint sensor location. We got used to stretch out our index finger to access the sensor for a long period of time.
But what Sony trying to do is, allowing the user to access the sensor without stretching the index finger.
If we think about it, it makes sense. Sony might bring swiping down the notification toggle via fingerprint scanner and that time it would be more useful.
    Great review btw 👍

Well, to say that other phones have "better screen and audio" is a bit... i dont know.. if i say something people will call me hater/fanboy at the sametime lol. These days, i think, people shouldn really say that something is the best because almost everything is subjective (in flagship phones). Some people like oled, some people dont, some people like the notch, some dont, some people like pictures oversaturated with smoothing efects, some people like natural color with higher dynamic range and more detail, the design is also subjective an so on.. What this phone has that others dont (at least in europe) is blazing fast performance resulted by the SD845 and sony optimization that also results in great battery life, and that is the most objective thing one can say about sony phones.. Its a true solid flagship with no gimmicks.. (3 cameras, dual aperture, super hi face scanner peoples... =P)

After going from an Phone 7, to a 7 Plus, and now Note 8, I don't think I can get a phone unless it has stereo speakers. My Note does not sound nearly as good as my iPhone 7 Plus due to its bottom mono speaker. The Sony Xperia XZ2 looks like a very interesting phone that has all that I need.

Z3 was great, but I don't think the phone is even comparable to XZ2 (believe me, I have both).
      - Sony didn't pay attention to the little details with Z3, they 'forgot' to bring the fingerprint scanner, the camera is still bad (at least for low light or too bright conditions), it has a good display but it's still to cold and has bad blacks.
      - There was a huge overheating problem with Z3, Z3+, and Z5 (especially Z3+ and Z5 because of that crap SD810).
      - XZP was and still is a great phone, but its design is a bit dated. I love its design but Sony needs to try hard to get their old customers back.

Love you man..... Now I seriously have to look at this one.... I have been really looking for a moto x pure replacement and the only reason why I am still using it is for its front firing speakers.... I still can't believe that flagship devices are ditching front speakers at such high price..... I am looking for an all round device rather than a standout feature....... Do you think the speaker output is similar to moto x pure? Thanks a ton for unbiased quality reviews..... And one thing i might like to differ, as I don't have large hands when I hold any phone generally I can't reach the fingerprint sensor on one plus or pixel since I tend to hold the phone right at the bottom so I can reach to the home buttons easily... I was hoping some company would keep the fingerprint sensor somewhere similar to xz2 which I think would be the best spot for someone like me..... If you get a chance plz do reply....

I feel like this is a throwaway phone cause everyone knows the XZ2 premium dropping in a couple months. Why would you spend premium $800 on this when you know TRUE 4k HDR glory is right around the corner. Smarter option in my opinion if you must have Sony phone is get the XZ Premium (8.0, sd835, 4k) which keep going on sale for $550 & under, then catch a deal on the XZ2 Premium

  • @lionelb8227
    @lionelb8227 6 лет назад +1

Personally, I find the fingerprint reader position to be not bad. I find those on the Pixel or others too high for my taste, but this is due to the way I'm holding the phone, I always have the little finger blocking it at the bottom and that way I don't like to stretch my finger to reach for the fingerprint reader, it's easier to bend my finger to touch it.
This phone is for sure one of the best of the first part of this year!

Sony apparently had a PP slide explaining the ergonomic reason of why they put the scanner where they did back at MWC. Wish I could find it, but i think the reviewers who complain about placement are just used to the higher positioning and assume it's right.

Well, it is a good review, I was waiting for it. This phone is not special like you say, but seems pretty solid in everything. How is it with communication (phone call, gps ect…) ? The prices are not too high in France, I think it will be my next phone. I need something reliable and I think I've found it !

One thing I noticed is that Sony Xperia, the camera focuses before every shot. Idk about others but I currently have a Google pixel and if I want to take a picture quickly, it will not focus before the shot and make useless photos which upsets me. Sure it's fast but I'd rather have a clear picture. I miss my Sony.

Hey Matthew I was Sony fan, but from last 2 models I face some big issues from Sony side.
2nd last model: Sony Ditch us in promising Software update.
Last phone: Heating issue, and because of that phone became a lagging device.
So after this I decided to leave Sony.
I am waiting for dual sim Pixel or Dual sim iPhone.
Last biggest issue with nowadays is lack of good Compact phones...

There are a lot of phones that have a higher screen-to-body ratio than the Mi Mix 2 though, as it sits at only 80.8%. But I get where you're coming from. I personally prefer light bezels but stereo front facing speakers like on this phone and the Google Pixel 2 XL. But the Mi Mix 2 is a great phone as well!

Sony has made some incredible phones this year (esp the XZ2 compact) but it's really a pity that they seem to have almost given up on the Indian market. They didn't launch the XA2 series, XZ2 compact or XZ3 and they dumped the XZ2 at an exorbitant price of 73k. Obviously Sony is not interested in selling phones in India anymore.

It looks ok , the curved back would drive me nuts trying to type on on the device while its on the table , yes it would have to have a case for me , a really fat one .
the finger print sensor location is more of an annoyance , much like the one on my S8+ but not a deal breaker.
No proper headphone jack is a bummer having to use a dongle on a 7 or 800 dollar phone is bs , my dear old mums 90 dollar flip phone has a head phone jack and a radio and an sd card and comes with buds ( cough google pixel are you listening ), so how much can it be costing these big phone companies to not have these features (just plain mean the the sods ).
im not really a fan of base android .... maybe i could load touchwiz onto it :) ??? , i would probably nova it .
As for the dedicated camera button , i prefer to just tell the phone to shoot so it doesnt shake the camera during the action ,
for me i dont place much value in the external camera button ,
should you want , you can place the camera button anywhere you are comfortable on the screen that you want on the galaxy .
Mathew You mentioned bixby , i actually dont mind bixby , the same as googles ai , but sometimes i go days without using either , but i do use both on occasion for stuff they are respectively better at .
there are things both can do that the other cannot .
i would give the sony a go as a second phone if it was cheap enough .

Hi, should I get XZ2 or XZ2 premium?
I'm at my 3rd xperia now with Z5, but it has been 3 years+
Everything about XZ2 premium camera is what draws my attention, but I'm really questioning whether it's worth the money.
My usage is just normal daily use, calls, emails, chats, and it's my main camera when I'm travelling.
I'm not DSLR kind of person.
    What do you think?

Bought a XZ Premium last week, fantastic device does everything well and beyond, but the form factor was a deal breaker for me. The sharp edges and the tall bezels were just too much to make it comfortable to hold in the hand or carry in a pocket. What do you guys can say about this one, is it much easier to hold and carry around? Also the lack of a 3.5mm jack sucks

I really want this phone, but I want priority with AT&T and unless you buy a phone they're selling, you can't make calls via VOLTE or WI-FI calling. And I've been in some situations recently that made me wish I had that option back, like I did with my Samsung S5. I'd be very desperate to go back to Samsung (garbage), so I want to try out the Razor phone 2. My husband wants me to get this phone, but AT&T will allow VOLTE and WI-FI calling on the Razor phone. I hate AT&T.

Still think 16:9 is better, and that makes this phone not as good. But as I had sad for many years. Sony might not do the "Hit"-feature of the year and mostly people dont react on it because of the brand. Just think about Samsung releasing Super slow-mo, suddenly everyone understand how great it is... despite it was Sony who did the hit first. Sure Samsung did do a thing that some says make it easier to get the right slow-mo effect. But to be honest, I think Sony is more or less better. Because if you get it just right, it could blow your minde, and the Samsung it do the thing by calculations the same all the time, wich means, it actually could miss that very spot wich you could capture with the Sonys version.
But when it comes to Sony always have been good on all parts. Nothing has been really bad, and somehow a good overall feelings is what many kinda said was boring. Wich is strange. That thing should really make Sony phones among the best. The other brands could get a hit and miss on many parts, a really bad interface, or camera experiense. Yes Sony has not the best camera software on the market, but its not that worst either So I agree with you.
Yes I do disslike the Sony change to generic design as this one have. But I do like the rounded back in a sense. Becuase that would make it better to hold in your hand... but my old XZ1 compact I can put on the table without spinning around lol. That XZ2 cant do. ;-) But as I Said... 16:9 is the standard, and i kinda dont want a taller phone wich the 18:9 makes. So I rather have the Sony Xperia XZ2 Premium if that comes around, that has 16:9 and good cameraspecs. The bad is also 3-5mm jack is missing on all this phone. :-(

    • @MatthewMoniz

The problem is Sony produce some of the best camera lens but they can't make a best camera phone.
They produce some of the best audio equipment but can't produce the best sounding phone
