Funny because the first and second game's Link is a clear-cut example of "chosen because he is a hero" - not acting on destiny, but answering the call to adventure. He is the only Link to wield all three Triforces, and claims each of them through combat rather than proving himself spiritually worthy to the artefacts; the eight shards of Wisdom in the labyrinths of Hyrule, then wresting Power from Gannon's ashes, then facing his own shadow in the Palace and gaining the Triforce of Courage _last_ .
In LOZ Wind Waker, Link is not planning on being the new hero. He just wanted to save his sister. His courage through the many trials he went through did not go unnoticed by the gods. They offered the boy a final test of courage ( Tower of the Gods ) and upon it's completion, the gods deemed him worthy as the new hero, and he earned the right to possess the Triforce of Courage.

Wind Waker Link was always the next one to possess the Spirit of the Hero. He like all the other Link's descends from the hylian knights or knights of some sort (hell you can even argue he's a descendant of Minish Cap Link). Each one carried the same exact traits that SS Link had hence the Spirit of the Hero. As for being chosen, this only applies to SS Link. Even the HoT's legacy just follows along the lines of prophecy/legend which theoretically probably stems from SS Link who is original Hero of Time since he time traveled to defeat Demise.
Wind Waker Link has to be my second favorite link apart from the Hero of Legend. He grows into the shoes of a hero because originally he is only in the fight against Ganondorf to save his sister, but after his sister is saved, he continues on realizing that it isn't just about saving his sister, but saving the world itself. He wasn't the chosen hero, but rose to the occasion anyways.
My interpretation of the Hero of Winds has always been that the people of Hyrule wanted the *Legend* of the Hero of Time and not some new hero. So the King of Hyrule was never going to give a chance to anyone unless they were the Hero of Time themselves. That's my interpretation, at least. This is great and it's always nice to see a different view of my favorite games
That's pretty much how the legend makes it seem. Which is why it wouldn't be surprising a hero during the flood era did exist. No one not even the king knows about the cycle of Denise's Curse. Their story of the Hero of Time isn't even accurate. They believe he left on horseback as an adult and could travel through time whenever. Not knowing Zelda had sent him back already.
Correct, this has always been painfully obvious as they always say "You're not the Hero of Time" when referring to it and such. Meanwhile, Ganondorf (who is the same Ganondorf from Ocarina Of Time) is able to clearly recognize that Wind Waker Link is in fact the reincarnation of Link.

Really interesting intro, but from 2:50 onwards, the script just turns into a TLDR power point presentation of the plot of each respective game, without saying much of anything. “Is he a hero because he is chosen, or is he chosen because he’s a hero?” is such a compelling narrative that I’m sure if you take a step back and re-analyze, you’ll find something really interesting to say.

Meanwhile I was derailed 3 steps to the left because I always interpreted it as him not reincarnating because he never technically crossed the border of life and death due to being sealed to stone before he could, a true bookend for the Master Sword.
Yes, for hundreds, and hundreds of years while the earth was being flooded, and reborn. He will still reincarnate after he passes, but chosen not to for like 1,000ish years cause he had no purpose. Till Tetra and Link were born, one born to hold the Triforce of Wisdom, the other tasked to find Triforce of Courage. After that Ganon finds his purpose to take revenge. That’s my view, I stick with it. It’s like that line in botw “he gave up reincarnating” when clearly he was still alive under the castle. The only Ganons that are pure evils are beast Ganons. All others just want to be king, end up becoming beast. Ganondorf born man, cursed to become a demon Lord.

I always saw the story of Wind Waker not as "due to Zelda's shenanigans the spirit of the Hero not residing in this timeline," but rather as the King of Hyrule having made a mistake in not recognizing the Hero when he emerged (probably due to his humble origins and likely not much fanfare from the divine forces he looked up to for guidance) and denying him access to the resting place of the Master Sword, forcing that Link to fight Ganon unprepared, thus resulting in his death.
Editor tip from one creator for another for 0:35 if you have multiple elements on a screen and want to fade to black don’t lower the opacity right clip on the project panel and there will be a tab called “create” there’s some neat stuff in there you’ll want either a “color matte” which you’ll set to black or there is another element perfect for this situation called “Black Video” simply drag one of these to the top layer and instead of lowering the opacity on the lower elements set the “black video” to 0 and raise it. 👍 you got this, bud, looking forward to more videos in the future.

Me personally, I think that the story supports reading Jabun and the King as representative of those who knew Hyrule when it was peaceful before Ganondorf reemerged. They were the ones praying to the gods before Hyrule was flooded. They believed in the Triforce and the stories of the Hero of Time. "Legendary hero" refering to that Link implies he's been glorified through story. I think that's why it's so fitting we start on what looks to be a storybook. Those who drowned with the old Hyrule. The King still has hope, so he tasks Wind Waker Link with finding the shards of the Triforce. He believes there's a chance the gods finally sent a hero. The Triforce chooses wind waker Link, and the King proclaims him a hero. I think other Zelda games do well to show that to be a hero means to be tested. The sword helps to guide him through the tests, but his courage is what gets him through, and the Triforce is a symbol of hope
I love Toon Link so much. He's a boy willing to get his hands dirty just to save his sister from the Helm Roc King, but then decides to throw hands with Ganondorf. Even showing up to the Gods like, "Yeah so what if I'm not related to the Hero of Time? I can still be a Hero and save people." and then Toon Link proceeds to make Ganondorf the new and last Pedestal of the Master Sword. Fucking, LEGENDARY. AND TOON LINK IS SO CUTE TO BOOT TOO AND BADASS. I LOVE ME A CUTE BADASS! Fun Fact, it was the style of the game that got my interest but then I learned the story and characters and loved Wind Waker even more. Phantom Hourglass I remember wanting after trying out the demo but sadly never getting it years ago, so years later, I looked up the story and man, I enjoyed that too. I think it's my favorite Zelda game in terms of humor. Linebeck shaking Toon Link and when Toon Link does the "Item Get!", he's dizzy, complete with the music reflecting that? That's funny. When the Ocean King officially reveals himself and is info dumping Toon Link, Linebeck, is using Tetra as a arm rest so disrespectfully only to panic when he accidentally knocks her over in the back ground, makes sure there was no damage only to pretend that didn't just happen? HILARIOUS! When the Ocean King comes back in his true form, making waves pass onto the remnants of the Ghost Ship and while Toon Link is fine, you see **Linebeck** being washed away? Game, stop, you're killing my gut here, LMAO. Even if Spirit Tracks is a different (Toon) Link all together, I till want PH and ST bundled with Wind Waker HD as a 3 for 1 game package so the latter 2 get the same HD beauty. That and for WW HD to be free beyond the Wii U (as much as I enjoyed the system, I'm well aware of the flaws). [Also a Fun Fact on Spirit Tracks, I did see an ad for it but also sadly wasn't able to get it either. I also couldn't finish a playthrough of it but hopefully that'll change someday.] The funny thing is, I don't really see myself as a puzzle person but I'm willing to persevere through the games for him, my favorite Link, Toon Link.
Okay, really nice video! The narration and summary of the Hero of the Winds' adventures is pretty great (Plus it brings attention to the underrated Phantom Hourglass and the GOAT Linebeck, which I greatly appreciate) Now, however, I have to disagree with a few points, or my inner Zelda Lore enthusiast will be angry. The idea that the Hero of Winds is not a chosen hero or a reincarnation is... Debatable. You see, there's points to be made for both sides. I personally lean to the side of "He is the chosen hero" because it just goes in line with the franchise's theme. Next up, I'll give you my arguments. First, I have to state that, each Link has the same spirit, but each of them are their own *person.* Every Link, though sharing the same general personality, has a different life, and is a different person. I say this because of the Hero's Shade in TP. Clearly TP Link is a reincarnation, but so is OoT Link, and they are meeting. Different lives, different persons. So, the Hero of Time disappearing from the adult timeline does not mean that the spirit is gone. Mostly because there were still three different Links before OoT Link. The spirit should, by all means, still exist. You may also argue that the fact that there was no hero to face Ganondorf is proof that the Spirit is gone, but uh... Why wasn't there a hero during the Imprisoning war (aLttP and TotK)? Does this mean the hero's spirit does not exist? Nah, it does, it just doesn't show up sometimes idk. Not every time there's a bad event, there's a hero. Second, the curse still goes on. Yes, I am aware you said it ended, but that's plainly incorrect. Just look at Spirit Tracks' Malladus, doesn't he look a little _too_ similar to Ganon? Granted, he is not a reincarnation of Ganon(dorf) because he existed at the same time Ganondorf did during Wind Waker, he was sealed, but that doesn't matter. The curse does not state Ganondorf (or rather, Demise) will reincarnate, it states that "An incarnation of my hatred shall ever follow your kind, dooming them to wander a blood-soaked sea of darkness for all time!" So, Demise doesn't necessarily reincarnate, it's just his evil will continue on, and will fight the hero eternally (Also, Malladus is the Demon King, just like Ganondorf and Demise during their time, meaning he IS part of the Demon Tribe) Another proof that the curse still exists is that ST Link exists. There is no confirmation that he is a descendant of WW Link, and if he were, he'd likely be royal (WW Link most likely married Tetra) (also it would make ST Link and Zelda's clearly romantic relationship yucky) As proof that ST Link is not a descendant, I offer Niko. He's the OG from Wind Waker, still running around, somehow. He takes the role of Link's grandpa (not by blood), and not once does he allude to Link being a descendant. In fact, when he meets Link with his green tunic, he says he "looks like an old friend" (WW Link), instead of: "You look like your dad/grandpa/ancestor". So indeed, this Link is a reincarnation. You could make an argument that the curse goes on because WW Link became the new "Spirit of the Hero", but I disagree. Demise is clearly cursing SS Link and his spirit. Like in the statement above, ""An incarnation of my hatred shall ever follow your kind". I don't think this means anyone who fits the hero criteria, if you ask me. Third point, the biggest argument that Link wasn't the hero is his quest to obtain the triforce, the pearls, and Gohdan, the boss of the Tower of the Gods. But this is just not the case. I'll make no comment on the triforce, but the pearls are literally just the same quest OoT, aLttP and aLbW Link have to go through for the triforce (In fact, the Goddess Pearls ARE the Spiritual Stones, and the Pendants probably are, too) so this isn't unique to WW Link. And Gohdan? Here's his description: "This monstrous machine was created by the gods as a trial for the great hero." The great hero. who's that? Link from Wind Waker, clearly. it was a trial, but it doesn't mean he _wasn't_ the hero. A few extra points, he's constantly referred to as "The Hero of Time reborn", specifically Ganondorf, who knew OoT Link, and is speculated to have known about the curse. Also, there's a 33% chance that BotW takes place on this timeline, and Champion Link is obviously a chosen one, with the spirit of the hero, which would be more points to the spirit still existing in this timeline. Is this definitive proof that he is a reincarnated hero? Nah, there's points to both sides. Nintendo hasn't stated either idea to be true. I just wanted to bring my opinion, arguments, and bring the idea that he might still be a reincarnation to the table xd Again, really good video! Me likey!

You’re quite right, but he did make the goddess recognize him as the Chosen after he got the master Sword and Triforce of Courage. Makes his family the new holders of the Triforce of Courage.
WW isn’t my favorite Zelda game, but one thing I always loved and found interesting about it, is that this Link isn’t anything remarkable. Just a kid who got thrown into an adventure.
I like to believe the Ocean King in Phantom Hourglass and the Wind Fish of Link's Awakening are one and the same And the whale is a huge Nintendo nerd, hence many other Nintendo characters appearing throughout the latter

I think he both is and isn't the chosen hero. When you play the game for the first time, you cannot understand Hylean, but beat the game and start the 2nd quest and you can understand. He cannot understand Hylean because he is not the chosen hero, but where does he learn it? He knows it because he is the chosen hero. Let's now talk about the clothes. In Twilight Princess, Link gets his green outfit after being revealed as the chosen hero. Wind Waker Link's green outfit is just clothes his grandmother made. The new "clothes" might in fact be the spirit and courage of the hero of time. It's not the clothes that made Link the hero, it's the courage, and it reveals the chosen hero inside himself.
i wonder how a zelda game would play if you set out as the actual hero after someone else had become the hero. Would they portray the false hero as a fraud or a boy doing his best to live up to a legacy that he isnt actualy connected to. Perhaps that timeline would end the game with 2 hero spirits, one from the start and one grown from a boy who fought to keep up and earned his place

I find it dissapointing that they didn't just make a completly new Protagonist. The Game makes a big deal that WW link is not a Chosen One despite being another version of Link like he is silent, wears green, has an similardesign like the prior link, HIS Name literally Link, Left handed, can wield the MS which is links weapon and there is no real character devolpment going here just like the other links he was coragous kid in beginning to the end honestly what was the point of his Character Lazy Writing.
I hate how we had such a smart version of the lesson that “anyone can be a hero in the world of Zelda” that the next 3d game twilight princess completely undermined making link genetically related to the hero of time. Felt like a rise of skywalker esque cowardly admission of defeat..
Cause they are two different Links, in two different timelines with two different events….. King of Red Lions: "I do. It is the only way"
This short dialogue could be interpreted a few ways. Me personally, I think that the story supports reading Jabun and the King as representative of those who knew Hyrule when it was peaceful before Ganondorf reemerged. They were the ones praying to the gods before Hyrule was flooded. They believed in the Triforce and the stories of the Hero of Time. "Legendary hero" refering to that Link implies he's been glorified through story. I think that's why it's so fitting we start on what looks to be a storybook. Those who drowned with the old Hyrule. The King still has hope, so he tasks Wind Waker Link with finding the shards of the Triforce. He believes there's a chance the gods finally sent a hero. The Triforce chooses wind waker Link, and the King proclaims him a hero. I think other Zelda games do well to show that to be a hero means to be tested. The sword helps to guide him through the tests, but his courage is what gets him through, and the Triforce is a symbol of hope
I love Toon Link so much. He's a boy willing to get his hands dirty just to save his sister from the Helm Roc King, but then decides to throw hands with Ganondorf. Even showing up to the Gods like, "Yeah so what if I'm not related to the Hero of Time? I can still be a Hero and save people." and then Toon Link proceeds to make Ganondorf the new and last Pedestal of the Master Sword. Fucking, LEGENDARY. AND TOON LINK IS SO CUTE TO BOOT TOO AND BADASS. I LOVE ME A CUTE BADASS! Fun Fact, it was the style of the game that got my interest but then I learned the story and characters and loved Wind Waker even more.
Phantom Hourglass I remember wanting after trying out the demo but sadly never getting it years ago, so years later, I looked up the story and man, I enjoyed that too. I think it's my favorite Zelda game in terms of humor. Linebeck shaking Toon Link and when Toon Link does the "Item Get!", he's dizzy, complete with the music reflecting that? That's funny. When the Ocean King officially reveals himself and is info dumping Toon Link, Linebeck, is using Tetra as a arm rest so disrespectfully only to panic when he accidentally knocks her over in the back ground, makes sure there was no damage only to pretend that didn't just happen? HILARIOUS! When the Ocean King comes back in his true form, making waves pass onto the remnants of the Ghost Ship and while Toon Link is fine, you see **Linebeck** being washed away? Game, stop, you're killing my gut here, LMAO.
Even if Spirit Tracks is a different (Toon) Link all together, I till want PH and ST bundled with Wind Waker HD as a 3 for 1 game package so the latter 2 get the same HD beauty. That and for WW HD to be free beyond the Wii U (as much as I enjoyed the system, I'm well aware of the flaws). [Also a Fun Fact on Spirit Tracks, I did see an ad for it but also sadly wasn't able to get it either. I also couldn't finish a playthrough of it but hopefully that'll change someday.]
The funny thing is, I don't really see myself as a puzzle person but I'm willing to persevere through the games for him, my favorite Link, Toon Link.

Okay, really nice video! The narration and summary of the Hero of the Winds' adventures is pretty great (Plus it brings attention to the underrated Phantom Hourglass and the GOAT Linebeck, which I greatly appreciate)
Now, however, I have to disagree with a few points, or my inner Zelda Lore enthusiast will be angry.
The idea that the Hero of Winds is not a chosen hero or a reincarnation is... Debatable. You see, there's points to be made for both sides. I personally lean to the side of "He is the chosen hero" because it just goes in line with the franchise's theme. Next up, I'll give you my arguments.
First, I have to state that, each Link has the same spirit, but each of them are their own *person.* Every Link, though sharing the same general personality, has a different life, and is a different person. I say this because of the Hero's Shade in TP. Clearly TP Link is a reincarnation, but so is OoT Link, and they are meeting. Different lives, different persons.
So, the Hero of Time disappearing from the adult timeline does not mean that the spirit is gone. Mostly because there were still three different Links before OoT Link. The spirit should, by all means, still exist.
You may also argue that the fact that there was no hero to face Ganondorf is proof that the Spirit is gone, but uh... Why wasn't there a hero during the Imprisoning war (aLttP and TotK)? Does this mean the hero's spirit does not exist? Nah, it does, it just doesn't show up sometimes idk. Not every time there's a bad event, there's a hero.
Second, the curse still goes on. Yes, I am aware you said it ended, but that's plainly incorrect. Just look at Spirit Tracks' Malladus, doesn't he look a little _too_ similar to Ganon? Granted, he is not a reincarnation of Ganon(dorf) because he existed at the same time Ganondorf did during Wind Waker, he was sealed, but that doesn't matter. The curse does not state Ganondorf (or rather, Demise) will reincarnate, it states that "An incarnation of my hatred shall ever follow your kind, dooming them to wander a blood-soaked sea of darkness for all time!" So, Demise doesn't necessarily reincarnate, it's just his evil will continue on, and will fight the hero eternally (Also, Malladus is the Demon King, just like Ganondorf and Demise during their time, meaning he IS part of the Demon Tribe)
Another proof that the curse still exists is that ST Link exists. There is no confirmation that he is a descendant of WW Link, and if he were, he'd likely be royal (WW Link most likely married Tetra) (also it would make ST Link and Zelda's clearly romantic relationship yucky)
As proof that ST Link is not a descendant, I offer Niko. He's the OG from Wind Waker, still running around, somehow. He takes the role of Link's grandpa (not by blood), and not once does he allude to Link being a descendant. In fact, when he meets Link with his green tunic, he says he "looks like an old friend" (WW Link), instead of: "You look like your dad/grandpa/ancestor". So indeed, this Link is a reincarnation.
You could make an argument that the curse goes on because WW Link became the new "Spirit of the Hero", but I disagree. Demise is clearly cursing SS Link and his spirit. Like in the statement above, ""An incarnation of my hatred shall ever follow your kind". I don't think this means anyone who fits the hero criteria, if you ask me.
Third point, the biggest argument that Link wasn't the hero is his quest to obtain the triforce, the pearls, and Gohdan, the boss of the Tower of the Gods. But this is just not the case. I'll make no comment on the triforce, but the pearls are literally just the same quest OoT, aLttP and aLbW Link have to go through for the triforce (In fact, the Goddess Pearls ARE the Spiritual Stones, and the Pendants probably are, too) so this isn't unique to WW Link. And Gohdan? Here's his description: "This monstrous machine was created by the gods as a trial for the great hero." The great hero. who's that? Link from Wind Waker, clearly. it was a trial, but it doesn't mean he _wasn't_ the hero.
A few extra points, he's constantly referred to as "The Hero of Time reborn", specifically Ganondorf, who knew OoT Link, and is speculated to have known about the curse.
Also, there's a 33% chance that BotW takes place on this timeline, and Champion Link is obviously a chosen one, with the spirit of the hero, which would be more points to the spirit still existing in this timeline.
Is this definitive proof that he is a reincarnated hero? Nah, there's points to both sides. Nintendo hasn't stated either idea to be true. I just wanted to bring my opinion, arguments, and bring the idea that he might still be a reincarnation to the table xd

Amazing video!! This gave me so much nostalgia as this was my first Zelda game ever, and this brought back so many great memories. This Link is definitely one of my favorites. He wasn't chosen by the gods, but was like, "fine, then I choose myself".
You’re quite right, but he did make the goddess recognize him as the Chosen after he got the master Sword and Triforce of Courage.

WW isn’t my favorite Zelda game, but one thing I always loved and found interesting about it, is that this Link isn’t anything remarkable. Just a kid who got thrown into an adventure.

I think he both is and isn't the chosen hero. When you play the game for the first time, you cannot understand Hylean, but beat the game and start the 2nd quest and you can understand. He cannot understand Hylean because he is not the chosen hero, but where does he learn it? He knows it because he is the chosen hero.
Let's now talk about the clothes. In Twilight Princess, Link gets his green outfit after being revealed as the chosen hero. Wind Waker Link's green outfit is just clothes his grandmother made. The new "clothes" might in fact be the spirit and courage of the hero of time. It's not the clothes that made Link the hero, it's the courage, and it reveals the chosen hero inside himself.

i wonder how a zelda game would play if you set out as the actual hero after someone else had become the hero. Would they portray the false hero as a fraud or a boy doing his best to live up to a legacy that he isnt actualy connected to. I find it dissapointing that they didn't just make a completly new Protagonist. The Game makes a big deal that WW link is not a Chosen One despite being another version of Link like he is silent, wears green, has an similardesign like the prior link, HIS Name literally Link, Left handed, can wield the MS which is links weapon and there is no real character devolpment going here just like the other links he was coragous kid in beginning to the end honestly what was the point of his Character Lazy Writing.

Wind Waker Link has the spirit of the Hero and I can't believe this misinformation is still being spread so commonly.
I hate how we had such a smart version of the lesson that “anyone can be a hero in the world of Zelda” that the next 3d game twilight princess completely undermined making link genetically related to the hero of time. Felt like a rise of skywalker esque cowardly admission of defeat..
Cause they are two different Links, in two different timelines with two different events…..
All Links, Zelda’s, and Ganon are connected no matter what, that is Zelda, that is why we love Zelda, its connective storytelling. Sorry you don’t like this version of Zelda.

I made sure to watch the WHOLE video before making my anger comment, giving you a chance. But as I thought, you PASSED OFF THE "no hero's spirit thing" AS FACT. It is very unfounded, and makes spirit tracks confusing. I hate that that theory gets thrown around so much, and it angers me SO MUCH. Also, I don't think you quite explained about celia as the courage fairy correctly, but I could be wrong in the order of events, but I thought the explanation was BEFORE the ghost ship.
