Naw Matty you missing out, I’m 34 and grew up on TMNT’s as well. TMNT mutant mayhem is actually good and funny. Watch it asap, It really does for ninja turtles what “into the spider verse” does for Spiderman.
It's so good. Score by NIne Inch Nails, same-room voice recording energy a la Home Movies/Bob's Burgers. And animators didn't crunch unlike Spider-Verse, one of the best and most creative uses of a license I've seen in a while.
I'd have to disagree on the last part. Sure the movie is funny sometimes, that's not really a compliment these days since most average movies manage to get a chuckle out of you. I do think the movie is worth watching but it just doesn't scratch that itch most 2003 (and comics) fans have. I think if the movie hadn't ended with the turtles joining human society the sequels would've had so much more potential. We could've had the turtles grow with each movie and the story get more serious with each movie (as the audience also grows up) and they could still do that but it won't be the same since they sacrificed a core element of the tmnt (them being in the shadows).
@miksaneksmind4399 And April, I also hate when they depict Donatello with glasses, plus his voice is crap, I also hate this version of Michelangelo. I hate how Raphael (who has always been my favorite turtle) looks. Honestly, this is the weakest version of tmnt that has been made. As a weirdo who still has a downloaded copy of the game even before it got delisted on my PS3, i have so many great childhood memories of it despite the glitches, with that being said I would love the game to come back the combat was fun but also a little clunky, the sound track is absolutely amazing and it has a cool atmosphere and art direction but if we were to ever get a port I think it needs a serious revamp, the core game should be the same but think the special move inputs need to change cuz they are just fucking weird, they need to patch the glitches, fix the controls that at times sometimes felt slow or unresponsive and they need to speed the combat up, but I doubt the game will ever see the light of day again as cool as it would be.
Still my personal favourite TMNT game cause out of the billion TMNT games out there it's one of the few that actually makes you feel like a ninja. I hate the 2D beat-em-ups because they barely felt like the characters outside aesthetics whereas OOTS goes all out and has stealth segments. Another element which is also barely utilized in TMNT games is their smooth parkour and agility. OOTS incorpates it and you can do environmental attacks too like wallrunning straight to combat. The only other games to have proper parkour are the Mutants in Manhattan, the 2007 tie-in and Mutants Unleashed But it does have it's flaws obviously. For one, the combat whilst having a ton of moves doesn't feel as polished as the Arkham games that's it's tryna mimic. Doing a basic combo is fine but there's input delay whilst doing counter attacks. Also there are some bugs and other technical issues which prevent it from reaching higher highs The game is also very short. There is additional stuff like the arcade mode, challenge maps and survival mode but the main campaign itself can be completed in less than a day. Being a TMNT fan since their birth in the 80’s (comics, shows, movies, games, toys etc.) I love seeing the new interpretations, some good, some really bad. I really dug the new movie - any self professed fan should at least check it out, then make judgement. Good review on the game though
When I first heard about the Persona stuff with this game a few weeks ago I felt SEEN because I’d been doing Persona influenced TMNT fan art occasionally for awhile now. Honestly can’t wait to get my copy. Also the movie is good, you should check it out. As far as IDW, the Mutants in Manhattan game is based on the IDW series, especially with the character designs being based on how that series looks, mainly Mateus Santolouco’s art on those books. I know a lot of people didn’t care for the game but I liked it. Great video as always! Also just found out you can get DLC for this game where you can make the turtles look like the classic 1987 versions, like new cel shaded skins in the changing room.
Please see the movie. They made a mistake with the marketing of the movie. It’s way more for teens and young adults in addition to kids. It should have been branded as a Paramount movie not Nickelodeon to imply it’s all ages apeal. And yes the game is pretty sick for its budget level .
This is the best review of the game on RUclips well done, You should really give the movie a shot if you thought the X-Men angle was neat, the movie is more respectful of its entire audience than you'd expect and I'm also a grown ass man who grew up on 03 and loves the Mirage Comics above all else. As for the game my take is why not both? I already have Splintered Fate and I about finished it so I was looking for more TMNT action and picked this up, I want to love it but ATM it's more just a like, The persona elements are a big surprise and you can tell there was a lot of care putting this together which is uncommon for the publisher, I love the art style and presentation and tbh with you the Turtles designs too, I think all of them look more stereotypically teenage and playful but also contemporary enough for me to really not freak out. Music is pretty good, it seems to be of a sizable length there's cool costumes and collectibles and there's even gonna be an extra mode added with the season pass. I wouldn't have compared this to the 03 games I love those and have played the hell outta them, and while I see a bit what you mean in what this could have harkened too for you I would say it's actually more like baby's first character action game or Devil May Cry, its got the style mechanic and everything, as well as a little bit of the 2007 TMNT game movement and platforming and that's honestly great I think there's a hidden gem in Mutants Unleashed with all it tries, no it's not perfect but for the $39.99 price? I didn't think anyone of any age demographic tbh is getting ripped off, it's not too tough no but aggressive enough and nuanced enough to not be a brainless masher and I really appreciate it. The thing holding me back from loving the game honestly is just something regarding the way inputs feel and how you seemingly can't jump cancel, a mechanic I think is very important to the genre especially in a game like this where enemies are kind of frantic and attacks feel more committal, if it ever gets patched or addressed along with some smaller complaints I feel like I'd be singing all about this game as a turtles fan. Still I think it's a good time and it's nice to see someone giving it its fair due imo, I think a lot of people wrote it off already due to the publishers track record and another bunch of people wrote it off for not being like their TMNT, for not being the AAA TMNT Game they always fantasize about and well even dumber politics stuff I won't get into. I think you were able to push past all that and give it a genuine fair shake and I appreciate that. I would love to see an expanded follow up to this game honestly myself
Well, I also grew up on '03 turtles and they're still probably my favorite, but I just really feel like being a TMNT fan nowadays is all about embracing change with open arms and seeing what each new iteration has to offer. Of course not all changes will be good, but that constant iteration is what's keeping the franchise from getting stale! In that sense, every TMNT is a "mixed bag" but they're all differently mixed bags and that's what's exciting for me
Oh, I just noticed that it does have DLC called "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants Unleashed - 1987 Animated Series Pack" for a few bucks. Classic cartoon character models are a definite buy for me along with the base game.
God! the Turtles look soo gnarly wearing casual clothes with the faces and the color pallete is this sickly, desaturated orange and green, everything looks horrendously ugly!
Having never played a Persona game and started with the Eastmen/Laird TMNT, I might have to try this game out. Funny to be playing baby's first Persona game when I'm nearing 50, but I guess you gotta start somewhere :) . I will say that the movies had some surprising highlights. There have been things I've grown to appreciate about pretty much every non-Bay version of the turtles and, for me, the voice acting in this was a highlight. Precisely because it wasn't what I expected. It was the first time they had the turtles voiced by actual kids and I found that really unsettling at first. After a 2nd viewing though and watching some behind the scenes stuff about the making of the film, I found it a lot more interesting. I absolutely agree with your Last Ronin take, but for me it's always been about the "Ninja" turtles and this movie made me have to take a step back and really acknowledge that the first word of the title has always been "Teenage" and that has rarely been emphasized in a more realistic fashion. Full disclosure, I did need my teenage daughter to explain several references so I obviously wasn't the target audience. Great video as always Matty!
Hey Matty! Did you know the first issue of the TMNT x Naruto comic is dropping in less than a month? Not sure if it was already on your radar but as someone who’s a TMNT fan and also appreciates comics/anime I figured if anyone would be interested in checking it out it’d be you
I grew up on the 90s films, the Archie comics, the 80s cartoon and saw the 2003 show, had the Genesis version of Tournament Fighter (yes the worst one lol), the NES games and Turtles in Time game growing up and then it just faded away. But then I saw the trailer for Shredder's Revenge and I have had a massive craving for TMNT since then and boy am I eating
You should give this era a fair chance, and the 2012 era, and Rise as well. When I first came of internet age in about 2008, '87 fans who never watched 2003 completely dominated the discussion and they hated the idea of the franchise continuing and being different from what they grew up with. Give it a fair go, if you hate it, you hate it, can't be helped.
TMNT has been my favorite franchise since the 87 turtles. I hope they get a big budget game that they deserve eventually. I know The Last Ronin is supposed to come, so maybe that'll open the door.
I'm an old fart in my late 30s who grew up with the OG turtles cartoon and movies, and I still enjoyed the new movie. I liked the art style and the voice acting was decent enough. So it's worth watching at least once if you're a TMNT fan. My only gripe was the new April character. She wasn't poorly done or anything, but she's just not who the April character is supposed to be and is clearly there to check a box, which is unfortunate. Granted, it's more eye roll inducing than it is a detriment to the overall product. It's certainly a modern take on the franchise which isn't going to be for everyone, but it's decent enough for what it is. Seems like same goes for this game... That being said, I also 100% prefer the darker/gritty TMNT styles as well as the original cartoon style over this. There's no denying that. So, I'm glad to see that they're still doing other things with the franchise and that this isn't the new standard.
I was an late 80's and 90's kid so I grew up with the original cartoon, I actually remember when the very first live action movie came out. I've not liked a turtles movie since TMNT 2 secret of the ooze but I don't know why but I really didn't mind the latest film, I'd take it over the Michael bay films any day so I might give this new game a go
It’s interesting to hear that this game is going a more Persona route. I was wondering how it would play. Kind of makes me a little more interested to play it. Honestly I’m more looking forward to the Last Ronin game. Hopefully that one hasn’t been canceled though, I keep seeing certain videos talking about it possibly being, I have no idea if it’s true, I really hope it’s not.
Yeah Including Six Best Animated Movie Cloudy Chance Of Meatballs Movies, The Lego Movies, Spider-Verse Movies, Transformers One Movie, and The Wild Robot Movie.
You're missing out with the movie imo. I'm OLD. Old enough that I knew TMNT as Eastman and Lairds weird dark black and white comic, then the cartoon which was tonally totally different, suddenly a live action movie was announced..I think I was around 13 when the first one came out. My point is I went in to the latest film absolutely expecting to dislike it. Thought it was great. Someone else mentioned Spiderverse films and while I don't think it was as good, that's not really a criticism as few things are, I'd agree there's something there like what those films did.
im also a tmnt fan who prefers the turtles to be darker like in idw comics or the original mirage comics and my fav show is the 2003 series by far, 2012 was too childish for me but the movie mutant mayhem is really good cos although its not that dark its not super light either, theres defo hints of the darker turtles, should defo give it a watch, i think moving forward the movies will get more dark
Dont mind them being kids, I just don't get why this version and the Michael Bay turtles are not ninjas... They learnt from a pamphlet and from movies? Splinter is just a rat ... Just a mutant rat with no ties to Japan, Oroku Saki and shit all
The movie isn’t half bad, I liked it but it does have a few things that are definitely gonna make it feel a bit outdated in the future. I do prefer a more mature take on the turtles myself. Loved The Last Ronin and I’m really hoping the game turns out well
I don't know how I feel about the new NINJA TURTLES. It doesn't feel like NINJA TURTLES what so ever. I wish they would go back to the darker emotionally deeper NINJA TURTLES. Ninja Turtles was supposed to be directed to adults i don't know what happened to the Turtles.
L take lol the art direction and voice acting in this i thought was awesome lol like you said it really adds to the teenage vibe and authencity of this franchise. I bought the art book as soon as it went up for preorder

I grew up with the 2003 series, too, and I'll echo what everyone else is saying; Mutant Mayhem is absolutely not just for kids.
I really like the new designs I don’t necessarily prefer them over the 80s turtles but I don’t mind them being their own unique take on the tmnt
A game being like Persona 5 and a game being like Persona in general are 2 COMPLETELY different things
God! the Turtles look soo gnarly wearing casual clothes with the faces and the color pallete is this sickly, desaturated orange and green, everything looks horrendously ugly!
I am 42 and long time turtles fan since 80s. Please watch the movie it is really good and fun. Beautiful style movie as well.
Movie is actually phenomenal and you’re missing out dude
Hey Matty! Did you know the first issue of the TMNT x Naruto comic is dropping in less than a month? Not sure if it was already on your radar but as someone who’s a TMNT fan and also appreciates comics/anime I figured if anyone would be interested in checking it out it’d be you
I don’t even care about the comic I want the action figures that come from the movie if it ever gets made like Batman vs TMNT
@@vintageoriginallegitLet's Wait For Both Nickelodeon and VIZ Media Will Make It and The IDW Comic Mini-Series Sell Well.
I see a Retro Revound Tmnt Video. I click. Dont think i didnt notice that mutant nightmare ost in the background 😉
I've not liked a turtles movie since TMNT 2 secret of the ooze but I don't know why but I really didn't mind the latest film, I'd take it over the Michael bay films any day so I might give this new game a go
You make me feel so old, I grew up with the original arcade game & Turtles in time 😂
And ofc the original cartoon series
I actually did enjoy the movie as an OG fan
It’s interesting to hear that this game is going a more Persona route. I was wondering how it would play. Kind of makes me a little more interested to play it. Honestly I’m more looking forward to the Last Ronin game. Hopefully that one hasn’t been canceled though, I keep seeing certain videos talking about it possibly being, I have no idea if it’s true, I really hope it’s not.
Matty please stop sleeping on one of the best animated films of recent years.
Yeah Including Six Best Animated Movie Cloudy Chance Of Meatballs Movies, The Lego Movies, Spider-Verse Movies, Transformers One Movie, and The Wild Robot Movie.
@@cyberextreme86I have a few disney movies above this new tmnt movie
Im biased
But tmnt 2007 movie was peak tmnt for me
You're missing out with the movie imo.
The Persona mechanics suddenly made me interested in this lol
Damn the screen shaking is insane in this game.
Matty, we do have an idw turtles game. It’s Mutants in Manhattan, and that game rocks.
im also a tmnt fan who prefers the turtles to be darker like in idw comics or the original mirage comics and my fav show is the 2003 series by far, 2012 was too childish for me but the movie mutant mayhem is really good cos although its not that dark its not super light either, theres defo hints of the darker turtles, should defo give it a watch, i think moving forward the movies will get more dark
Dont mind them being kids, I just don't get why this version and the Michael Bay turtles are not ninjas... They learnt from a pamphlet and from movies? Splinter is just a rat ... Just a mutant rat with no ties to Japan, Oroku Saki and shit all
i have kids so its a easier pill to swallow , seeing our turtles change
Games kinda dope
I've been a fan since the 80s. The new movie is my absolute favorite.
I can always coupon Matty to be my TMNT guy. Lol 🤙
The movie isn’t half bad, I liked it but it does have a few things that are definitely gonna make it feel a bit outdated in the future. I do prefer a more mature take on the turtles myself. Loved The Last Ronin and I’m really hoping the game turns out well
I was looking forward to getting it but the reviews been killing it for me
I don't know how I feel about the new NINJA TURTLES. It doesn't feel like NINJA TURTLES what so ever. I wish they would go back to the darker emotionally deeper NINJA TURTLES. Ninja Turtles was supposed to be directed to adults i don't know what happened to the Turtles.
BACON EGG AND CHEESE YURRRRT YUUUUUURT
I grew up on 87 turtles… I’m old.
Love the into bro 🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤
You REALLY harped on the art style… jeeze
Have you done a review of the old 360 game TMNT out of the shadows? I’d watch your hot take on that game.
SEE THE MOVIE
Seriously it's worth it just like the 2012 TMNT if you give them a chance.
Hopefully out of the shadows makes a comeback
I can’t stand the Persona games and thought Metaphor was the worst opening to a game BUT this sounds great!
April looks like a mutant, ill pass
I was excited for this but decided for reviews first before buying blindfolded.
Glad I did will buy but only when it drops in price.
So if I'm only interested in this game for the combat sections, should I just wait for a sale?
STARSHIP TROOPERS EXTERMINATION VIDEO?!!
The movie was pretty good overall but not my ideal turtles movie but still worth the watch
Not finishing the video. How have you not watched Mutant Mayhem yet?!
Bro, if April looks good turtles look perfect, April looks horrible
Mike's VC is... yeah
Good Review
What is this nonsense! TEENAGE mutant ninja turtles behaving like TEENAGERS?!
I give it a ign 7
Watch the movie bro
He thinks tmnt can be mature 😂
L take lol the art direction and voice acting in this i thought was awesome lol like you said it really adds to the teenage vibe and authencity of this franchise. I bought the art book as soon as it went up for preorder
I knew it was unfinished. It’s great in theory, but they should’ve kept this in the oven longer.
How could you not watch the movie but play this lol
If you can take a flight to New Zealand you can watch the damn movie! Lmao
wrath of the mutants is a good game if you set the right expectations
I mean if you do not like the voice acting can you not just turn it off in the options i mean alot of videogames let you do that in this day and age😉
Is this game open world or have any sandbox exploration? Not asking for too much I just want to have some freedom and jump across rooftops
MATTY! Clean that microphone wind muff! Do u have a cat that rubs on it? ! It's getting a close up in this video. 🤣
This came out? Shit didn’t even realize.
