God when I heard this I instantly saw the survivor learning about the world they arrived in and the enemies they encounter, items to discover, the hidden realms, artifacts, fellow survivors, and Mithrix himself. I saw the survivor grow from being a commando who could barley survive the first boss at best to a loader swinging across the stage at breakneck speeds and conquering the eclipse. In all honesty I'm not sure which song I thought to be more powerful. This one or "Con Lentidud Poderosa". I both really enjoyed them and got a strong image of what they meant. (at least to me)
Being a troubled child and always being under the state meant that when I turned 18, felt free from five years of torment. Little did I know that life could be just as crushing, and thinking back now, I still had innocence in my soul back then. My roommate showed me the original Risk of Rain. We played 700+ hours plus probably, trying desperately to beat the game on Monsoon with all of the artifacts turned on. It took us almost two years. Now that same friend has since become quite different like myself and I feel myself detached from him. Risk of Rain 2 was more than just a sequel. It was a chance for me to show my newfound bro something I felt robbed of in the past by the other one I considered a friend, instead of the acquaintance he has become. My new friend hated this game. Until he passed the first stage. Then he hated it again. Until he got a new character. Then he hated it again. Until the music dawned on him. Then he hated it again. And then he beat Mithrix. Now he hates it even more because he is never truly done. This hate has turned into a weird love hate relationship and it describes my first reaction to the first game. We play all the time, and you know what's funny? Something is indeed very magical and ethereal about two brothers chasing glass frogs.
Had been waiting for this theme to be uploaded independently. Just love the way it perfectly represents how cruelly ironic the world is, sending waves of stronger monsters each time the survivors think they get the hold of it. (Edit) On that note, I've always loved how "Risk of Rain" perfectly represents how cruelly mysterious the world is as well, with hoards of creatures that seem to want nothing but to kill you without ever being told why.
The last Guitar solo gets me every damn time :D It is one of those very rare riffs that make the guitar sing rather than sounding like an instrument anymore and its oozing with soul so much that it even managed to make me tear up a few times! Mad respect. looking forward to the next updates and more of your tracks
Played this game for the first time last night, and this track made me instantly regret having declined to play it for so long as soon as the game loaded. Chris, you did an _amazing_ job with your music. I'm adding your name to my "List of Musicians Who Mean A Game Is Automatically Good".
After 900 hours on this game and having had listened to the soundtrack hundreds of times over, there is just something so hauntingly beautiful about this song that I have trouble describing. From the chirps to the guitar wailing, you can really feel the soul of this game through this track and the sense of wonder and awe that it provokes. Risk of Rain 2 is my favorite game of all time, but despite that, I’m going to forget it long before I forget this song. So thank you Chris. I know it’s silly to have such a strong emotional connection to fucking title screen music of all things, but god DAMN you are talented
When I saw all these new uploads, words can't describe how happy I was. The only problem is, now my loyalty is torn between the early access OST that has been in my music playlist for several months, and the final version.
i was playing risk in my living room and everyone wanted me to turn up the music because of how good it is thank you chris for making such a good soundtrack for such a good game too man i appreciate it
I know for a fact you've opted to not play and just listen at the home screen instead before. don't jump to it, you need the build... but 4:30 is so epic, and I think there's a version in game where it's even more epic. I've noticed slight variations on this piece depending what screen you're listening on- and one of them the "drop" is just heaven for my ears.
Помимо этой и Dehydration of the risk of rain, есть ещё различия между версией здесь и в игре. Однажды это обнаружил и так и не нашёл правильную версию на ютубе
This is such a good menu theme. Fits the game really well, one of the more energetic ones I've heard and really long even though most people wouldn't sit at the title screen for this long.
I didn't have much hope for the game when it started to run at 10 fps in my pc at the title screen. So I fiddled around with the options to see if I could optimize it some way and man, best decision ever. This music cemented in my brain that this was gonna be a really good game I would play, but after almost 100 hours in the 3 weeks I've played this game, I have to confess, I never expected it to be *_this_* good
@Chris Christodoulou I never knew how good and clear this song was until I learned that the character selection menu has a different version where it's more in the background rather then hearing the theme itself. This version makes it feel like the true version you wanted it to be. It's amazing.
if i could i would tattoo this games entire soundtrack onto me somehow. seriously all of these are so amazing, and definitely make me feel better when i die really stupidly. sometimes i stay on the character selection screen while playing singleplayer to here that electric guitar like sound near the end. i am so glad to know this exists now
My favorite part of this is when my friend would have it open but we'd get distracted about something else, but suddenly we remember the game is open and remark "Damn, this music is really good"
I just got the game the other day and I instantly fell in love with the music just from the intro and menu alone. Such a beautiful sound. I'm imagining what a collab with Barry Leitch would sound like. Anyways, amazing stuff. Thank you so much for your work. It's really inspiring.
Out of all the tracks this is still one of my favourites. It encapsulates RoR2 perfectly! Retro sounds that are fresh and as the song progresses so does its intensity
picked up the game a few days ago and holy shit dude... Your work is incredible. Without your Music this game would still be good, but with your Music it got to be a Masterpiece.
Sorry if someone already commented this, but if your looking for the actual music that plays in the character select screen it’s a few songs down called “dehydration of risk of rain 2” it’s pretty much the same but alittle different but to me the difference means a lot. Hope this helps others who notice this one was alittle off
I’d say that RoR2’s soundtrack is overall probably more engaging and interesting, but Minecraft’s soundtrack has some absolutely serene textures and ambience, but both fit their respective games perfectly.
I only got this game recently, and I didn't expect to hear one of the most stand-out and beautiful soundtracks in gaming. I love the synths, guitars, and percussion. Awesome work.
Currently doing my audio production final project on this song. I'm remixing starting from 3:52 and finishing the rest. But man doing this as shown me just how much effort and love went into this song alone. I mean the way everything is balanced so well, how it almost never feels empty, and just the use of space. I wasn't surprised to find out that this was my most listened to song on spotify. I am a bit upset I can't fully replicate some of the parts, like at 4:24 and the different moving parts, but I'm happy with what I have, and I'm happy I found this music.
@@AstronautDown honestly, yeah! That’s why the sound is so amazing, it’s got your blood sweat and tears all over it. And actually having finished your audio commentaries, I’m surprised by how it seems you didn’t really mean for the songs to fit as well as they did (correct me if I’m wrong) it sounded as if you went with the flow of what you were trying to do and risk of rain just grew around the music. That might just be the way *my* brain handled it. Either way, long story short, you’re a legend and I’m in shock with the love you gave to the music.
I remember sitting in the character selection menu with the toned down version and then coming back to the main menu during the last part of the song and just being like: "WOAH where'd those drums come from?!"
ive never really took the time to search up music from a video game except for risk of rain music because it is absolutely amazing and heavenly and perfect

This is such an amazing game with an equally masterful track. Its impossible not to be immediately sent straight back to 2020 when I hear this track for better or worse
Dear Chris, This whole soundtrack is a masterpiece, I now listen to this song a lot and I will buy the album next month on my next salary, and I wanted to let you know this actually changed my life for better. This music, this game... and so I wanted to thank you. You, sir, have my eternal gratitude, and I wish you a long and beautiful career, because you are a savage when it comes to music :)
I downloaded the game because a friend recommended it to me, what I never thought is that I fell in love with the music of the game, besides the opening theme, I feel a great tranquility and a lot of peace when I listen to it, thanks for your music
So few composers I know of use silence in a pleasant manner. Most in popular music don't even use it much (beyond the necessary to separate one note from another). One that immediately comes to mind is con lentitud poderosa, with the use of silence. I don't know much of music theory, so I don't know what to call it, but your use of "contrast" as well, like sometimes giving only one instrument its space to shine. So it's not just silence, but a sense of space, that I think makes your music very impactful. And the attention to detail too, of course - small, tiny variations that keep the music fresh, like subtle variations in color and texture in a painting that reveals something new each time you come back to it. Chopin did that a lot and it's part of the reason I like his pieces so much. I've only played the first game, but your music was indispensable... If I am honest, most movie and videogame OSTs are good, but they are very much "background" music, which isn't the case here... Interested in hearing more different styles from you in the future, it's awesome that you're getting recognition coming mostly from RoR it seems, but I sincerely hope this only expands your opportunities for expression, instead of limiting the spectrum with which you can get renowned for. Like being seen as "the risk of rain composer" instead of "chris christodoulou", you know? Like robert downey jr has "become iron man". Lastly, I'd like to say I love how you explore different genres. The japanese style in Reks' Mundi and The Uncanny Valley was awesome. Really remarkable and unique, how you have blended different elements of japanese music harmoniously, and still expressed yourself instead of reproducing (as tends to be common when we delve into the less-than-familiar). The only time I heard anything similar was with the Okami soundtrack, but your music there really tells a story which can't be put into words. Your work for earthling priorities was also really interesting for me, because though the music was different, it just has your signature to it. You have such a great talent for building an atmosphere, and taking your time in a composition. Most music I hear today is so rushed to get to the climax. So anyway. Here is my love letter to you. I've refrained from commenting some times before, which would be small remarks. So I've waited, and just centralized my thoughts and appreciation in this comment. Thank you!

What a great way to summarize life, and also shows how something such as a game can mean so much for some people. I hope that you're doing well buddy!
Chris you are the backbone of this game, thank you for your phenomenal work! I can't imagine blowing up the moon to any other soundtrack
Pretty Moon, Pretty Flame
Had been waiting for this theme to be uploaded independently. Just love the way it perfectly represents how cruelly ironic the world is, sending waves of stronger monsters each time the survivors think they get the hold of it.
(Edit) On that note, I've always loved how "Risk of Rain" perfectly represents how cruelly mysterious the world is as well, with hoards of creatures that seem to want nothing but to kill you without ever being told why.
I wonder what that little "boing" sound you hear in the background is, I imagine it's a little insect making that sound when it jumps.
It sounds like a spring to me
It's a beetle hopping, lmao
I always think of it as the distress beacon's final echoes as the contact light goes down
The last Guitar solo gets me every damn time :D
It is one of those very rare riffs that make the guitar sing rather than sounding like an instrument anymore and its oozing with soul so much that it even managed to make me tear up a few times!
Is it even possible that this man was paid enough for this?
What a perfect description of what Risk of Rain 2 is
hoppo games: its just a main manu music, no need for anything too craz-
chris christodoulou: 🎸🔥🔥🔥🔥
Hoppo had fuck all to do with this, bruv.
Absolutely magnificent piece of art.
You know it is good when the first thing you remember about the game is the music.
An iconic theme that makes you feel defeat & the obsession to get right back in, to go further beyond.
This music cemented in my brain that this was gonna be a really good game I would play, but after almost 100 hours in the 3 weeks I've played this game, I have to confess, I never expected it to be *_this_* good
Took me 98 hours to actually think to turn the graphics down instead of playing on 12fps I'm so smart
This soundtrack is so well done that just hearing it makes me want to play RoR2. Even when I'm listening to this over other games soundtracks.
@Chris Christodoulou I never knew how good and clear this song was until I learned that the character selection menu has a different version where it's more in the background rather then hearing the theme itself. This version makes it feel like the true version you wanted it to be. It's amazing.
Me waiting my friend to eat and listening in main menu for this masterpiece for 90 minutes straight, thank you
if i could i would tattoo this games entire soundtrack onto me somehow. seriously all of these are so amazing, and definitely make me feel better when i die really stupidly. sometimes i stay on the character selection screen while playing singleplayer to here that electric guitar like sound near the end. i am so glad to know this exists now
New boss fight dropped
main menu
I think this is by far my favorite track on the entire album. Amazing work
I heard the song clearly taking from purple rain, and see that the title is in fact being very clear about it's inspiration lol.
I'm nothing but transparent :)
I just recently invested in A50s and I've heard things in this piece I didn't know was there before. The subtleness is off the charts.
It's really inspiring.
this is gonna be so nostalgic in the future
And his music, was nostalgic...
Can't wait to cry while listening to this in a few years
Out of all the tracks this is still one of my favourites. It encapsulates RoR2 perfectly!
Retro sounds that are fresh and as the song progresses so does its intensity
Ahhhhhh that wailing guitar at the end gives me goosebumps ever time! What a soundtrack!
Got high and chilled out to title screen for hours, nice tune
picked up the game a few days ago and holy shit dude...
Hope this helps others who notice this one was alittle off
This OST surpasses even Minecraft’s music
Also I like to think that the constant *dun-dun* *dun-dun* is like the heartbeat of the planet
Minecraft's ost rlly isnt anything too impressive imo
@@7tales311 minecrafts music drives me insane
@@7tales311 its really good but this is even better
I’d say that RoR2’s soundtrack is overall probably more engaging and interesting, but Minecraft’s soundtrack has some absolutely serene textures and ambience, but both fit their respective games perfectly.
@@Sighbot Minecraft's music is sht annoying. You have horrible taste, especially to compare it to this opus.
This games soundtrack is so F***ing GOOD! Chris did an amazing job as always.
Congratulations Chris on another Amazing soundtrack. This is my highlight of 2020.
I wish you success with your project!
I wish I could feel all the feelings you felt as you crafted the uniform of risk of rain as a sound and soul.
So, pain and misery and exhaustion?
@@AstronautDown honestly, yeah! That’s why the sound is so amazing, it’s got your blood sweat and tears all over it. And actually having finished your audio commentaries, I’m surprised by how it seems you didn’t really mean for the songs to fit as well as they did (correct me if I’m wrong) it sounded as if you went with the flow of what you were trying to do and risk of rain just grew around the music. That might just be the way *my* brain handled it. Either way, long story short, you’re a legend and I’m in shock with the love you gave to the music.
listening to this while just in the logbook feels like you're discovering the unknowns of the universe
I remember sitting in the character selection menu with the toned down version and then coming back to the main menu during the last part of the song and just being like: "WOAH where'd those drums come from?!"
I really like your drumming especially the tasteful splash/stack hits
The proud legacy of Terry Bozzio :)
ive never really took the time to search up music from a video game except for risk of rain music because it is absolutely amazing and heavenly and perfect
I could swear there's Yoshi sounds in the background during the quiet part from 0:40 to 0:55
Yeah ikr
absolute perfection.
The soundtrack is reminiscent of 70s - 80s Prog Rock bangers like King Crimson and Pink Floyd with cyberpunk touch. Well done 👍
Thank you! These are definitely prominent influences in the music, glad it comes through!
You just crush landed into a foreign world
alone you're only saving grace is your meager gear and your own tuition
You don't know how you're going to get home or even if you can but you know one thing and that is you have to try.
So here you are standing in the crash waiting to build up your courage to set off on your Odyssey to find a way home...
I have spent way to long in the menus just listening to this masterpiece
I love how the music changes based off where you are in the menu
This is such an amazing game with an equally masterful track. Its impossible not to be immediately sent straight back to 2020 when I hear this track for better or worse
Daaaaamn Chris... This is just the main menu music. You didn't have to go hard!
Good job
The lenghty strides extended notes give me SHIVERS Christo is a fucking genius
Dear Chris,
This whole soundtrack is a masterpiece, I now listen to this song a lot and I will buy the album next month on my next salary, and I wanted to let you know this actually changed my life for better.
This music, this game... and so I wanted to thank you.
You, sir, have my eternal gratitude, and I wish you a long and beautiful career, because you are a savage when it comes to music :)
This song is a literal masterpiece
I cannot express how much I LOVE
and I mean L O V E
Risk of Rain 2 and its soundtrack
This is the kind of music I live for
God damn the guitar so damn sick in this one. So emotional and expressive.
I downloaded the game because a friend recommended it to me, what I never thought is that I fell in love with the music of the game, besides the opening theme, I feel a great tranquility and a lot of peace when I listen to it, thanks for your music
3:50 this part gets me EVERY TIME
So few composers I know of use silence in a pleasant manner.
Thank you!
Hands down best main menu music out of any title
What about hands up though?
