She played Blanche DuBois in a stage adaptation and I was young when I saw it, I can still remember how I was just staring at her unravel and my Mum would tell me at home that it was the best Blanche DuBois she has ever seen. Meryl Streep and Jane Fonda also said Cate gave the best portrayal of Blanche DuBois in stage. So it's a no-brainer why she perfectly slayed the role in Blue Jasmine because Blue Jasmine is inspired by A Streetcar Named Desire. You'll loathe her at the beginning of the movie then you'll sympathize and feel for her as the movie is about to end. You should watch it. People saying that Emma Stone doesn't deserve her oscar really bums me out... Her performance in one word was REALISTIC... Musicals are a tricky genre anyway. Being very realistic in a musical needs talent. (like legend Julie Andrews in Mary Poppins)
Mia's character isn't one that like all the bad things in the world had happened to... It was about a very NORMAL person... just like you and like me.... Infact, that is the point... Her crying scene after Seb doesn't go to her show was just so realistic... People don't ALWAYS ugly cry... Her line delivery was flawless... (especially when she first talks about her aunt and the "I'm not good enough scene") She created MAGIC in her song Audition... Expressions were ON POINT... That year when most other performances were dramatic, Emma's performance was perfectly realistic and BELIEVABLE.... And she did it so SUBTLY that people think she didn't ACT ENOUGH to be worthy of the oscar... She deserves it...
