My husband and I just learned our first dance steps proper way. We are going to celebrate our 20 anniversary and surprise our guests with this dance. It is a lot of fun. Thank you for your teaching. You are great teacher.
I also learnt to dance in the age of the Foxtrot, Waltz, Quickstep. Hear It now, your up and away, even without a partner. Remember Victor Sylvester. Y’all could be the same as my age.
Now’s the time!!!! sign up at a ballroom near you. Do some group classes and private instruction. It’s awesome, I love it, 57 yo here, safer than riding a motorcycle.
I'm 47, and like you, I never learned. Going through a divorce, I figured why the hell not? I've always been drawn to the era and music, started lessons with a local group this week
Love this. My husband was a dance instructor in the late ‘50’s early ‘60’s, before I met him. He was classified as the best in our county. He danced on Dance Party in California. He came down with MS and could no longer dance and could not teach me, so sad. But he shared his fond memories with me and that was good.
Oleg I've been watching your lessons for a long time now. As a teacher, I can tell that dancing is your passion. You are thorough & patient. All the qualities of an excellent teacher! Your sense of humour when dancing on your own in public always gives me a good giggle!
That is the exact rock ‘n roll step I did in the 50’s and 60’s. I was lucky that my parents gave me dance lessons including ballroom dancing which meant I was always on the dance floor but I married a man who was a terrible dancer, I tried to teach him but he had no rhythm at all, so I gave up with him, he just didn’t ever get it.
We used to go ballroom dancing every Saturday night. Guys crossed the dance floor, and ask the girl he had his eye on to dance. And invariably she would say yes. You held her right hand in your left, about shoulder high, and your right around her waist, and her left on your shoulder. Then you asked each other’s name. By the end of the dance, you both new ,if you fancied one another. When I hear dance music now, I’m up off my feet, arms akimbo, whether there’s anyone to dance with or not. I’m approaching 90 now, and it keeps you going. Perhaps not as fast as I used to. But the memories are still great.
@@michellecrowley3749 you seem to know all about makeup. What can you tell me about droopy eye bags, I’ve been using the wet tea 💼 bags treatment which helps.
Bruv, this was the very first swing dance video I found in Dec 2023. I had gone to a banquet, people were swing dancing, and I never had taken a single lesson in my life, dancing was not on my bingo card. I saw the swing dancing and I said, that's the kind of dancing I am interested in. This is the video that kicked off all my swing dancing, I have taken tons of lessons and gone to tons of dances and this video was the start of it all. I still feel this video is very solid for anyone else watching, I'm even a bit nostalgiac about it. Swing dance has to be one of the most inviting, welcoming group. Early on, I threw my ego out the window and went by gut feel that fun was the core to learning swing dancing, and that one rule worked. do 2x or more dancing at dances than taking lessons - use lessons to bolster what you figure out on the dance floor. I learned to not sweat it if I messed things up - more experienced followers were really patient and constructive. Now, one of my favorite things at a dance is dancng with totally inexperienced dancers - I mean this is their first time. You can show them the 6 ct that they can dance with all night long and have total fun. They are so appreciative, too. I am actually getting into "experienced" level classes and the learning is taking off faster. Learning to learn. I couldn't even keep the 6 count 5 months ago, so get yourself started, and do all the dancing you can. Don't worry, relax, you will learn fastest with that mindset - I've met dozens of what are now great friends within a 2 hour radius of where I live. Cheers!
@@paige4204 Yup, great community, a great social network... I take lessons 3, 4, sometimes 5 times a week, then dance on weekends. Great group of new friends.
I am an elementary music teacher that likes to teach swing dance occasionally to 5th/6th grade. You do an excellent job of really breaking this down! I am currently using this video to teach my students :)
Let the kids know that moving to rhythm is a lifelong skill they can enjoy. I never did it and now I'm like a frozen brick! I'm trying to break the brick and "get with it."
@@kathym6603 You can do it. I'm 68 and I'm going to my first swing dance. Not planning on dancing but I'll drink in the atmosphere and watch for these basics
You are an excellent tacher. Slowly, step by step, explaining, repeating...love your lessons. I've always danced very much as an adolescent and adult. Now I practice your steps alone in my living-room...Thank you!
I love the way you teach. You break it down so small but its not patronizing. I don't feel like I'm being made fun of for not knowing or being scared, just slowly being brought of my stiff shell. Especially with how much effort and movement you put into such tiny steps, it shows me how there's already room to do more even in steps so small. I can have something to work on, even if all I know are small bits. As someone who has desperately been wanting to learn to dance for years and I have to learn it all alone in my room, its appreciated more than you know.
Good for you!!! Watch yourself in a mirror, if possible. That way you don't create any bad dance habits. I hope you get a chance to actually get out and dance with a partner.
I wanna put him in my pocket and take him dancing. Best teacher I've ever seen. "How to dance when you don't know anything." 😆Love his style of breaking it down.
Quite a different perspective on swing steps that swing teachers teach (bounce, straight back...), but I appreciate your lesson, because now I can use the same steps and moves for any common dance 🙂
Just as a heads up though: this is ballroom swing, which is different from what (most) think of when one says "swing dance" (the big band / jazz dance scenes in old movies.) Don't get me wrong, neither one is "bad" nor "wrong"... but they are different, and the body motion in ballroom swing (the pronounced hip and shoulder swaying for instance) is different from swing dancing which may make it awkward if one is dancing ballroom and the partner is not.
~Oleg...you move simply awesome.... makes me want to move just like this.....thank you sooooo-much for your tips....I find myself waltzing through the kitchen....

I wish you could have been our teacher in ballroom dance classes! My husband thought he was a great dancer until we took ball room classes- I could never dance with him, he was so bad! I grew up dancing with my dad. I learned the box waltz by standing on his feet when I was 5! My parents did a lot of dancing not only ballroom, but also polkas, foxtrots,Norwegian Schottises, old Tyme-Scandinavian Waltzes, all the fun dances! Now I can’t dance anymore and I sure do miss it!
