What was the coolest thing on this disc? 👀
Honestly the beginning was coll, showing what the Gamecube can do
16:25 The Yoshis Story GBA tech demo is shown...
Maybe this disk it’s from Nintendo direct 2002 or something
@@RyneMcKinney Glad somebody caught that! Definitely cool to see
The Luigi’s Mansion part was the greatest part
honestly this felt like a nintendo direct before nintendo direct
stolen lol
Nintendo Direct if it was #soretro
do you even know what e3 is lmao
the guy narrating even sounds like the Direct narrator XD
Better then direct it’s classic lol
I would recommend dumping and uploading the contents of this disc to a place like the internet archive, like others said, so we have a clean, non-RUclips-compressed version. This was super interesting!
Yes!
This definitely looks like something that would've played at trade shows like E3, Gamescom, etc.
Also, it almost feels like I'm watching an early 2000's version of a Nintendo Direct.
I could definitely see that. Sick, right?
@@GreggoryHarris the announcer sounds very similar to one of the direct announcers they had
This is exactly what I was thinking watching it. Really cool
@@RyneMcKinney My thoughts exactly.
I can tell Dee Bradley Baker is narrating many of these like the Sonic Adventure 2 promo. I keep hearing his "Random American Dad Background character" voice
Is that who it is!
hey pan :))
cuck pizza!
hi pamman
i was thinking "whats perch perkins doing talking about sa2" but american dad works aswell
Not a bad Nintendo direct, needs more farming sims
Maybe in 2003...
Yeah it needed 800 jrpgs and anime. Maybe an AA
Did anyone else Notice that all the non-Nintendo games gameplay was horrible? Like the gameplay was them bumping into things, dying or just playing badly? But when it came to first party games the gameplay was pretty good
Kinda cool and strange how this really feels like a modern Nintendo direct in terms of narrative and presentation.
But the third-parties didn't know how presentation works and put 10 second trailers instead x)
I’m sure it’s the same narrator
I’m sure that narrator is the same one they use for directs even today. That’s crazy! This was so cool
The narrator sounds like the current Nintendo Direct guy lol.
True
Trueeee wtf!!! Lmaooo, is it really the same guy though I wonder?
@@luigiymario2xd I believe it is
I think it is
I really need to know who this guy is, for some reason I also remember him as some narrator guy for the promos on Disney Channel Asia like years ago..
This feels like something that could be played in a game store display in the 2000s
That’s probably what it was for initially
>"Megaman Zero"
>looks inside
>it's Megaman Battle Network
i rewinded the video like, "what did he just say" 😂😂
The written titles on several were wrong too. "Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2" was THPS3, "Sonic Adventure" was Sonic Advance
2:16 He called Fox "Star Fox"
"My NAME is Fox McCloud, StarFox is my team's name. " *Entire bar pauses in awkward silence*
TV Tropes: "I Am Not Shazam"
John "Star Fox"
Not having an optical media drive on your computer is failing at life.
Not having a floppy disk drive... Seriously failing.
16:50 "one of Bowser's henchmen, the evil Koopa King"
So he's his own henchman?
I am almost 100% positive this same disc was sent to us at GameStop when I worked there. I remember putting this in the PS2 demo kiosk to watch it because we didn't have a DVD player in the store.
2:17 "Aw, for God's sake! My name is Fox McCloud! Star Fox is my team, not my name!"
I don't Get It, because I don't know much about this video game series
@@ildan_games_2008 It is a reference to A Fox In Space, a fan animation series about Star Fox.
This was very interesting to see. I wasn't born when the GBA and GameCube era started, so this is very cool to see what it looked like back then when Nintendo was promoting these consoles.
Love how Mario cheers at Sonic Adventure 2 in the background. Looks like the hatchet was buried pretty early
12:50 Cool thing I noticed! This trailer uses the early prototype rendition of the main theme to Luigi’s Mansion, which can also be heard in the E3 trailer for the game!
Kind of crazy how similar the narrator here is to the one they used in modern day Nintendo Directs
This is also the highest quality version of the beta theme as well
@@maractusradiono the hq version already exists
@@MCWiirdo Where?
12:50
Another what looks to be some sort of beta version, much closer to the final version that the spaceworld demo but there are still several differences such as the gameboy horror in the bottom right is different, the boo counter appears to just be the number of caught boos instead of caught boos/50 and you can hear some sound affect such as when sucking up the ghosts aswell as an early version of main theme also heard in the earlier version is being played in the background.
10:04 "Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3" but it's 2
"With it's amazing realism!" Fox up throwing peach in Brinstar and moments later DK gets sucked through a wormhole.
I like how they lied about the Super Mario Advance games being new adventures and that Super Mario World had 96 levels
Yep, this is definitely one of those "store kiosk" DVDs full of previews of games that you'd see playing in the game section of Walmart or Target. Pretty sure I've seen that exact Melee snippet elsewhere on RUclips. (Definitely don't remember any Sonic footage narrated by Dee Bradley Baker, though. Pretty sure the guy narrating the Super Mario Advance 2 and Wario Land 4 segments also did Nintendo's 1996 E3 takeaway video.)
This batch could've definitely used a bit of a once-over, though. "Bowser's henchman, the evil Koopa King?" You mean HIMSELF?? Mega Man Battle Network footage with narration talking about Mega Man Zero??? "SONIC ADVENTURE" BEING USED FOR SONIC ADVANCE'S TITLE CARD???? Clearly, these were produced in large quantities quickly. Probably still got the advertising job done regardless of hiccups, though.
Are you gonna dump the disc and release it on the Internet Archive? It might have cool unused assets on the disc.
9:19 apparently, the term ‘cringe’ has been around way longer than I initially thought.
its an actual saying not just a meme buzzword
hearing the word cringe in a pre-2010s content is like finding out samurais, cowboys, and fax machines existed at the same time at one point
The term cringe has been around since the 80s
@@CrashFan03 The way it's used in most memes though is a bit different from its actual meaning.
I think it means moving your head back without moving your neck, sometimes it gives you a double chin
I'm at a loss for words, this was freaking outstanding. It felt like I was watching a Nintendo Direct.
"Beta disc" usually means "unreleased game" but whatever, I enjoyed this.
Bowsers hair glitching in the melee promo 😂
2:05 - loved seeing the Melee ad where he calls Fox "Star Fox" lol.
18:49 They accidentally called Megaman Battle Network "Megaman Zero" and said you play as Zero xD
I like the voice over in most of these ads. It's more subdued than what I would hear in a Nintendo Direct and I appreciate that.
The music being muted was definitely a copyright issue, theyd need to pay royalties to press a DVD even tho its a promo disc. All other music was proprietary.
I really enjoyed the pikmin trailer because of the many differences between this early version and the official release. This trailer was pretty short so It couldn't show much, but imagine just how many differences were left out
The bridges and the original look of nectar is entirely new to me. It’s surreal to see that the bridges made of a cyan metal instead of wooden sticks, it certainly clashes with the natural aesthetic and I can see why they changed it on the end.
The original watery look for nectar also makes a few oddities in the Pikmin series make more sense in hindsight. The Japanese name for nectar, “Earth extract” makes alot more sense knowing that it was originally just water. It also seems that the Goolix had originally been intended to fool players into mistaking it for nectar, a trick Nintendo finally pulled off with the Foolix in Pikmin 4.
14:57 this one is just all of their stock punch sounds in a row lmao
Bruh, not only do they pick comic sans, but they don't even display the correct game title in the preview at times.
12:00 It's so odd to hear a non-American accent saying "soccer". Haha!
I think you should upload the full DVD image to the internet archive.
also, thanks for the video :)
There are no mentions of the Rare Ltd. titles planned for GBA and GameCube in this promo video. By this point, Microsoft had already purchased Rare, but the purchase was in its initial stages and wasn't finalized yet. Only Star Fox Adventures was teased twice, but not a proper promo.
I'd say this promo was completed and showcased in early 2001, as Super Mario Advance was also shown here as an upcoming title.
I’m convinced the disc is fake and somehow modern Nintendo made it 😂 sounds and seems exactly like a Nintendo direct
I mean im pretty sure it was made for E3 and E3 announcements aren’t too different
This is what I would love playing in the back ground of my gaming room, a bunch of trailers playing and console adverts etc
ngl a gc controller with a clear back would be pretty cool. i wish they made them.
They did actually!
@@cakehoarder had a look online, and lo and behold they did. news to me, i need one asap!
16:25 Just casually showing a game with and fps counter and a never released port
This man just prevented a Nintendo lost media search before it could even begin lol
It’s incredibly funny how similar this is to modern Nintendo Directs. Even the narrator sounds incredibly similar.
I think it might be the same guy
20:04 you are correct, that is a known early version of the Pikmin logo with bright green leaves and different renders of the Pikmin on it. I documented a high-res copy of it on Pikipedia some years back but unfortunately it never ended up on any pages because I'm not a very good wiki editor. 😐
I'm almost convinced the announcer is the same one from the modern Nintendo Directs
15:34 the pikmin are drink blue nectar and old bridges 🤔
That very brief second of Star Fox Adventures was a beta build. Also yeah Pikmin did not look final. Bridges don't appear translucent when you're building them iirc right?
18:51 this made me crease.
7:05 WARIO LAND 4 PRE RELEASE FOOTAGE
I REPEAT
WARIO LAND 4 PRE RELEASE FOOTAGE
2:43 - Man, Perch Perkins sure knows his stuff.!.!
The Smash Bros Melee promo noting the inclusion of "Star Fox" just made me think of the parody series "A Fox in Space" where Fox flies off the handle at being referred to Star Fox.
Crazy how the title card and subtitle call it "Sonic Adventure" instead of Sonic Advanced; and how we get a teaser for Megaman Zero over footage of Battle Network.
It's funny how the less popular games don't even have a commentary.
You can call me crazy but to me the graphical leap from 5th to 6th gen was so huge that to this day these graphics feel more next-gen than the current-gen.
I've actually seen the super circuit clip before, i think it was on like imbd or something weirdly
This is what happens when you look for hours of prototype/development footage for a game lol
18:10 Ah yes, Sonic Adventure. My favorite Gameboy Advance game.
18:20 lol that typo
Sonic adventure instead of sonic advance? I noticed a lot of tiny issues like this throughout. They got the game names wrong multiple times. They kept audibly saying Tony hawks pro skater 3 but then the text said pro skater 2 🤷♂️
I feel like this isn't legit
What a surprise! I used to follow your blog on Tumblr back in 2011-12? So neat to discover you're still at it with the Nintendo love in 2024 with YT. All the best to you, Cake Hoarder!
No way!!! A tumblr OG! Much love 🤝
Wow great find! Thanks for uploading the whole thing!!
I loved the Luigi’s Mansions part on the disc. Thats so cool that you got a hold of this.
one of the gc controllers were the dolphin sdk exclusive transucent varient but with the final gamecube controller button colors and design which tells me at one point we were intended to be able to buy controllers with clear backs,
Seems like things are mostly finalized by this point, but its interesting to see how much old press kit footage survived for so long.
For one, at around the 16 minute mark, there's a sizzle reel that reuses music used by Nintendo at SpaceWorld 2000, during their sizzle reel that revealed a ton of gamecube game concepts.
Then, with a lot of this B Roll, its using earlier console designs and renders and mixing them all around. Stuff like the disc window in the gamecube's jewel on top, or the silver and orange/teal GBAs in some closeup shots. Plus yknow, flat out tech demos that were nearly a year and a half old at this point that weren't ever going to become games, with stuff like yoshi at 16:26.
A lot of the specs and marketing terms seems like they were really nailed down too. They'd really stress stuff like "32,000 colors" on GBA, or "The Nintendo Difference" at E3 2001, and they seem to have been still abiding by those same guidelines this long later. So really, this is a product of the tail end of that first wave of GameCube marketing, before Nintendo started to realize things were going downhill and roll out the discounts, edgier marketing, etc.
Also... I might be insane but... is that VO the same guy from the Nintendo Directs?? He sounds very similar.
Alright, GeekyLuigi knows their stuff!! 🧠💥 Amazing. I’d love to track down more of these discs. One sold recently for $100 that I sadly missed out on 😮💨
@@cakehoarder LOL I try to! Its a lot to learn about but I've spent a lot of time on it.
Surprising to hear Dee Bradley Baker voicing some of these, he does a lot
Watching this really brought me back to my childhood days. I unfortunately never got the chance to own either console growing up, but I'd see these games being advertised all the time and really wanted to play them.
Man, this feels like a prototype Nintendo direct
Not really a "beta" disc, but nonetheless this type of media is always good to see preserved. Nintendo couldn't give two shits less to care if that type stuff is preserved or not.
One of your best videos. Really enjoyed seeing this!
Bro made the GameCube his whole personality. That's pretty cool tbh.
this is such a cool piece of history to have, it's amazing to see how things evolve but still stay true to their roots. this definitely feels like if we had nintendo direct in the 2000s
Luigi's Mansion beta theme: 12:51
Main reason why I watched the video was the depressed Luigi on the thumbnail. I expected to "potentially" see beta content never seen by the public before. Nope, none at all.
holy shit this is the OG nintendo direct
Dude that’s not rare at all…..
Just give it to me cause it’s…..junk 😶🌫️
Well.. if you say so bro. You can have it 😀
16:26 footage from that prototype Yoshis Story GBA tech demo.
16:26 looks like they cheated and put N64 Yoshi's Story clips on the GBA. But I looked it up. It was a real prototype. It was made to look like polygonal graphics, but it's sprites.
Not them calling smash a battle Royale before the massive spike in battle Royale games
The whiplash between Advance Wars and the Ice Age trailer is insane lol
The fact its just slience with grunge music for Dark Summit 5:00 is hilarious. Did they even play these games? Dark Summit is an awesome game that deserves some credit.
Incoming DMCA from the Nintendo Ninjas
They got so confused showing Megaman Battle Network 2 😭😭
dang didnt know they had nintendo directs back in 2003 that wario land 4 trailer sounded exactly like something you would hear in a modern Nintendo direct
You should consider releasing a dump of the disc image.
Its crazy how much bever before seen stuff you're putting out there man 🔥
Crazy how back then they’re seeing advance wars for the first time, and skip to now where many people were seeing advance wars for the first time (reboot camp)
Immagine that nintendo is going to present switch 2 like they did with the gamecube
basically watched games that were trailers almost like it was a beta of the games that were coming out at the time
I figured it was like the og exported video reel for e3 02 lol
This is so sick, coolest thing was seeing starfox adventures as the first game shown in the initial GameCube video on the disc
WAIT the Mario kart GBA one says "Haul asphalt" and then "Cringe" 😂 let's gooo
Tony hawk 2 for gba that AINT his voice 💀
9:04 smell the pretty kitty?
Like others said this definitely seems like a store promotion disc
Looks like something that would've been in a kiosk.
The spinning Gamecube model used in the video looks like the Spaceworld 2000 version (disc window, extra vent holes on the sides, power button is convex, no rear vents below the AV ports) but it seems to have the little "wings" below the side vents from the retail version and the reset/eject buttons look concave, closer to how the retail eject button is but not the retail reset button.
It's cool to see the Yoshi GBA demo, but the lesser-known GBA Dolphin demo is there too!
Bizarrely if you look at the sequence where the specs and the controller are shown, the models for the gamecube seem to vary quite a bit! The one when they show the processor specs has spaceworld side vents and the spaceworld white text near the buttons but otherwise looks retail, then when the controller plugs in the gamecube looks more like the spaceworld version...
13:01 Notice how Luigi doesn't follow the line leading to the mansion but rather skips, this must be footage of a late beta version
19:01 The First Ever Game I Bought For My Game Boy Advance.
2:27 yooooo bowser bug!
So many driving/racing games.
Gotta love how some are eerily silent and only the sound effects run, so creepy, I'm guessing it was rendered before the announcer commented on everything? maybe? lol
Backyard baseball actually looked cool
Well now we know that Nintendo Directs are older than we thought. Seriously though this was an amazing find.
