I love the scene when the black figure appears, you start to panic, try to close the door and then lock yourself in the same room as the figure. Just perfect
Glad you finally gave it a shot! In the experience that I had, the more "TVs" you "Turned off" the more strange events were about to happen on the map. Like I genuinely could recall shadow figure being more often in the map with more TVs off, and some doors/walls would appear and disappear at times, blocking the path from one room to another. Still, good to see you enjoyed it!
So that isn't the ONLY TIME that this "shadow figure" shows-up; but depending on what you do, like messing around with the TVs, the more frequently he shows up.
EDIT: I believe I was wrong, since I went through the map again with all the triggers enabled, the door does disappear but that's unrelated to the TV amounts. The shadow man was actually seen in the office, not from liminal hotel, he closes the door. My bad! @@NathanDavisVideos Most likely, I could still be wrong, though. But basically in my experience: Pressing USE on the TV turns it off. I had about 2-3 disabled, and I absolutely remember seeing a black figurine from that window from the apartment in the liminal hotel, and the spawn area having one of the doors walled off afterwards, as in literally replaced by a wall that is blending really well, making you question if there really was a door or not. I only managed to confirm that the door was in fact there after i noclipped, lol
@@Kirik285 Interesting... I did not about the "phantom door" by the spawn location. Maybe he should revisit this map sometime soon. Also: Supposedly I heard the creator of this map [@PnkBl4ck] may have updated this map as well as it's successor "Voidspaces" (as well as several of the _Voidplaces_ maps) since this video was created; but I cannot confirm it though. However I wouldn't really know anyway, because I don't even own _Garry's Mod..._ *Yet!* But I am working on possibly getting it sometime in the future. My brother has it though.
This is one of my favorite liminal space maps, honestly maybe even beating out voidspaces by a hair for how it stays fairly focused. You hit on a lot of what I like about it in this video, but at 11:41 I had to pause out of shock. The first time I entered this weird little annex I felt this overwhelming sense of "not supposed to be here" and "something bad is about to happen", which felt extremely weird (in a good way) to have you confirm. It really speaks to how good the atmosphere is and how mappers can create feeling with visual cues alone. There's not a single sign, convenient note, or hasty recording in this area that would indicate "not supposed to be here", but we both felt that so strongly. I love that. EDIT: I also gotta talk about 24:35, which definitely is one of my favorite parts of the map. My interpretation, with the way the wires bulge out from the abscessed ceiling, is that the complex itself somehow is wounded and bleeding at this point. Take that as you will, but it seriously creeped me out for the rest of my time here, and really contextualized why I felt so watched the whole time. It's alive.
19:32 In my opinion, the GREATEST jumpscare of the history of this channel. Even better than the door peeking one (forgot the name of the game). The surprise factor (thought it was just another "boring" liminal spaces map), the sudden buildup, the fact that Librarian missed the door when attempting to close himself on that room, and when finally is able to do it... the apparition vanished. Also: does the apparition used a Valve asset? Or it was a custom-made one?
horror baby and giraffe fighting off the demons to prevent librarian from being attacked as much as possible: "i never expected to die fighting alongside a child." "how about a friend?" "yeah, that'll work."
Wow, what a surprise. Again, I'm very happy to see this first project, which by the way, was inspired by your channel. at the time I created these types of maps inspired by liminal spaces, for myself, oldspaces started as a hl2ep2 map, but after I saw that the subject was starting to have visibility, I got up the courage and made oldspaces. and then I made it bigger with voidspaces, but thank you, really, I'm very happy, great video, I loved it :)
Ever since I have watched your videos I have felt more connected with my dreams. I don't necessarily lucid dream where I can control aspects of it, but I feel like I have more agency, and drive to find the meaning of them. I have started to wander more in my dreams, finding seemingly endless structures. I have felt more of a drive, without necessarily knowing what the objective is. I have felt more emotion, especially an odd sense of calm and intrigue, which seems to contradict the eerie and hostile sense of my surroundings. It feels like I am looking for something, and the harder I try the more my dreams try to hide it.
42:09 Please no, don't bring any type of paneling that has gaps in them. I had enough nightmares as a child trying to imagine what sorts of insects may be living above those panels.
I really think this is a master class on how to properly convey dream architecture. Everything flows together but share a theme. Whenever the shadow man shows himself its in an office space, and those are constantly coming back. It creates a loop of going to a new area and style and then back to an office where you feel like your life is being threatened just for walking around.
I love The Librarian's VR videos man. Just the way they're structured is great. It feels like The Librarian isn't just a guy playing gmod. It feels like these are just random pocket dimensions, pieces of time and space ripped from they're original location and often mashed together with others. Its The Librarian's job to keep track of all these spaces and catalogue them, for what purpose remains unknown.

Exactly the same situation here. Librarian is the kind of guy that gives you a reason to keep Gmod installed, just so you could try maps that he posted videos about (playing the maps before watching the videos, to not spoil anything, of course). Ever since I discovered this channel, it now works as a sort of "Good Gmod map recommendations channel" for me. And as a bonus we get a narrator who doesn't sound like one of those overly hyper-active "douchebag youtubers" that would yell and shout every few seconds in attempts to be funny.
After about two years of disorderly binge watching your videos through my “recommended” RUclips page, I realized just today that I had never actually subscribed to your channel, good thing I fixed that.
There's just something about your commentary that is soothing and insightful yet also concerning (in a good way). These exploration videos really are just a treat to me.
31:31 Spotlight streetlights always gets to me. Roadside streetlights are designed to flood as much of the road as possible with light. Direction of traffic wise their cone angle is like 150°, and transverse-wise much narrower, like 60°. Unfortunately even the Source engine doesn't support light trapezoids with different angles, but having a narrow beam of light from a street lamp lighting up 25ft^2 of the surface below doesn't make any sense. 99.5% of mappers got this wrong, even if they live in car-dependent hellholes.
This looks so complex but zoom out and its all close together unlike the feeling you get before noclipping out, like a maze which you get so lost in that you think it's miles long but its only the size of a small house
Absolutely enjoyed this map! Loved the dusk ambience, the wood paneled areas and the grass room. Despite the jump scare early on I find this map rather cozy-creepy than creepy-creepy for the most part, with exception of the flooded area with the under water piping, THAT.IS.CREEPY, big NOPE. That one one flooded area with the high ceiling and the chairs and the daylight simulation 38:05 was totally fine, loved it actually, but the area that immediately followed, the deep pools and then the hallways, flooded, the green light, that made me feel nauseous.... that's a "nope...no thank you very much". . Overall, I love these GMOD liminal maps! I am obsessed with dream worlds, these liminal maps are just up my alley.
It would be really interesting to see a version of Liminal Hotel that flips the whole thing on its head by removing the ceiling to make it look like just a normal building. Imagine the feeling of seeing a non liminal liminal space.
I just wanted to say you're the entire reason i bought gmod and think gmod is so cool. On my birthday I'm getting a vr headset too so i can do exactly what you do, thank you so much
36:17 thats because you have whats called phantom sense, its mainly common on VR but in some cases can happen on other systems but phantom sense is when your brain is tricked into feeling a different sense, there are sever different types including but not limited to phantom pain, phantom taste and more, you would have phantom temperature
this makes me want something like...digital urbex. i think that may be why these gmod vr videos are so appealing to me. its rare to see abandoned houses that still have stuff inside, but its always an incredibly emotional journey looking around and piecing together the life of a stranger based on their house, frozen in time. i bet someone could recreate that in gmod.
Your videos have really got me heavily interested in the concept of liminal space. I actually found out what the backrooms are through your videos. Those things to me are way scarier than a bunch of back to back jump scares to me.

I think that the creator of this map did an excellent job at creating meaningful exploration paths. So many maps look like a bunch of different spaces and ambiances haphazardly stitched together, and lack fluidity or pace as you're exploring. This, instead, is the work of an experienced creator and should be taken as source of inspiration. Not to mention how lighting is brilliantly employed to deliver the right mood during exploration. Cheers! //Rick
I could've sworn my dang eyes were playing tricks on me when watching this, sometimes when you walked down some corridors I thought some objects were figures. The confusing layout and silence really gets to you!
Played this map and on man, that shadowy figure is always watching you, i guess you didnt notice how most of the blocked doors with wood gets broken everytime you pass then, he is watching
This map in particular reminds me of a map called "Pareidolia" or something way back in the day. It was kinda the first liminal space map way before they became popular (actually it was a series of 2 or 3 maps). It was more of a puzzle/adventure map where you'd explore, solve puzzles, and occasionally fight combine soldiers. I'd love to see a video about them, I've never seen anyone talk about them before.
That apartment you found is about the size of where I'm living now, except the kitchen (and bathroom!) are even smaller. This whole place is also _cleaner._ lol
I was just chilling with some ramen thinking that he slapped the jumpscare warning on to keep people watching, and then bam. That was the best anything gas gotten me in a while.
Watching this after I just woke up definitely feels like a dream, I absolutely love the feeling this map gives off cuz there's no specific place your in you just go and go until you cant anymore
I had the pleasure of playing this one in VR before you did. Although my experience wasn't as flawless as yours (behold 5 hours of troubleshooting, as it was my first time setting it up) it was honestly worth the effort. I felt more chills playing this map than you probably did from GM_Krot. Yes, I will watch the video now :)
Not finished with the video yet but I wanted to put something here before I forget, sorry if I stumble with my words; I really like the detail at 32:00 which I'm sad you hadn't commented on. When you walk into the room, the TV isn't pointed at the couch like you'd normally expect. It's pointed at you, along with the chairs (minus the couch of course) It gives the feeling of 'expectancy', like something or someone was waiting for you to come in. The TVs in this map and in Voidspaces feel very,, malicious, they've got bad vibes to them from the sounds to the event tied to the later section of Voidspaces, and that small detail I think really adds to that feeling in a nice way. Dunno how to really end my thoughts, just wanted to point it out since I didn't see anyone else mention it.
Bro i really like these gmod maps exploration, the map is too huge and i agree with you what kind of feelings you get while playing for e.g cozy , eerie etc... I love this 💕
Honestly can’t go a day without watching these videos the way you do them are very well done and make it a whole new experience for these maps and stuff every time 👻
Man, I just love exploring those maps in vr, its so surrealistic and addictive that I feel like waking up from a dream when I take the headset off. Btw, I dont know how, but I glitched that ghost from the end of the hallway so it never disappeared lol.
27:13 you say "my house", not long after 'your house' is revealed to have a library, coincidence? I think not as you are The Librarian, one that watches over an empty library.
The most disturbing thing is that when there is no jumpscares in the map because, that eerie feeling only comes with it. Just remember, whenever you get a jumpscare you freaks out but, you get a relief for some time. That's why I am saying that if nothing happens, you will be always wondering, what was in that house? Why it gives me crazy spookes even if, nothing happened. Is am right?
I know everyone says this but even with 136k subscribers you're still a very underrated channel, you're everything a RUclipsr should be and you don't get nearly as many subscribers and views as you deserve
I feel like the constant changes in building design and geometry and such creates this sense of wearing you down, and it's probably even worse in VR. LIke you keep trying to look for a way out yet keep coming to new sections that transition into different sections ad infinitum. You keep thinking "this has to be it" and then it just keeps on going. Very much fits my sense that liminal space maps were designed for humans, by beings that are NOT human and don't actually understand anything human.
Man a way to totally break the mood is if that toilet at around 21 minutes played the "time to take a piss" meme. it would've been pretty funny though.
Can't wait to watch this ^^ late again. but still great content. 💕 places you've seen in your dreams for me was highly unsettling. enjoyable... but unsettling nevertheless. =) looking forward to watching more. ^-^
I've never paid attention but have you ever played Superliminal? I have had it forever, played like 2 hours of it last night and it's some crazy stuff, it is very "liminal" inspired but the puzzles are wild and wacky to say the least.
Greetings, The Librarian. Firstly I would like to thank you for your content. As many of your viewers write, your videos really act as an "escape", they help to abstract from the daily rush and anxiety, and for me personally, such content is rare. Thank you very much! Secondly, I would like to ask you something. Do you know anything about such a thing as "d-6.gro"? If not, then simply I can say that it's pretty... an interesting thing, and something tells me that it will be very interesting for you, and even for your channel and your narrative style. I am not aware of how well this topic is covered in the English-speaking segment of RUclips (I'm from Russia, as can be seen from my name 😀), but for example on the Russian-language Internet "d-6" (or as it is called "dysthymia-6") is very well known among fans of psychological horrors. This game seems to test you, puts you into a trance, and then, suddenly, turns everything upside down. Of the "bad" sides of this game, I can mention the rather difficult process of installing, and perhaps this can create certain difficulties. Also, "d-6" may seem boring at first, but believe me - this is just the calm before the storm. It will be a little awkward if you are already familiar with this product, and everything I wrote above will essentially be useless. 😄But nevertheless, it's great if you read it to the end. I also apologize for possibly incorrect and confusing vocabulary somewhere - I partly wrote all this by myself and partly used online translator. looking forward to new videos! ✌
Mate, if that was my toilet, id piss myself before even setting foot into what can only be calles a tunnel. Its so narrow, yet it feels like youre sitting on a silver plate for some cosmic horror f you know what i mean
You know what would be a good addon for your exploration videos? Some kind of spray paint thing. That way you can mark where you've been. Like what doors you've used or whatever. I don't know if such a thing exists tho.
The map is kinda deceptively normal and ordered in it's layouts until you really think about what you're looking at. More so than say something like the backrooms version of "liminal" which are more absurdist in design
I don't know if it's something you turn off or not, but not having the "most watched" feature on the video hurts and helps me as I don't get any jump scares spoiled, but at the same time I don't know when the jump scares happen XD

I really like the detail at 32:00 which I'm sad you hadn't commented on. When you walk into the room, the TV isn't pointed at the couch like you'd normally expect. It's pointed at you, along with the chairs (minus the couch of course)
It gives the feeling of 'expectancy', like something or someone was waiting for you to come in. The TVs in this map and in Voidspaces feel very,, malicious, they've got bad vibes to them from the sounds to the event tied to the later section of Voidspaces, and that small detail I think really adds to that feeling in a nice way.
Dunno how to really end my thoughts, just wanted to point it out since I didn't see anyone else mention it.
the bathroom at 5:20 just makes me think of a line from "furniture hellscape" by louie zong
The toilets at the end of a 100ft hall
That was hilarious when the tv went off in the middle of his speech and he quickly took out his pistol... 😂
Moments like you going all the way back to have the elephant hang out with the giraffe and baby are moments that keep me coming back
Very cool! I'll have to grab this map, as well. Thanks for sharing it with us.
i love this guy's voice, it's so soothing
Bro i really like these gmod maps exploration, the map is too huge and i agree with you what kind of feelings you get while playing for e.g cozy , eerie etc... I love this 💕
Honestly can’t go a day without watching these videos the way you do them are very well done and make it a whole new experience for these maps and stuff every time 👻
Man, I just love exploring those maps in vr, its so surrealistic and addictive that I feel like waking up from a dream when I take the headset off. Btw, I dont know how, but I glitched that ghost from the end of the hallway so it never disappeared lol.
Can't believe the guy that made this map is a fellow brazilian. Good to see that gmod modding community seems reach here as well.
I listened to this to fall asleep last night, I'm pretty sick and this definitely helped to make me sleep
10:06 Your house burning down while being immersed in VR is a real danger in the near future 😂
54:07 Sorry I took a sip of my tea.
5:02 if you puke into that toilet, gas gas will fill the room gas g-g-g-gas
When you get mad at the map for being too good and scaring you too good XD
Although I haven't watched this, I have a feeling its gonna be great.
You know being in my house alone at night watching these videos I have to remind myself I have a dog and that's what's moving downstairs
i love this channel. by no means do i watch it regularly but like once in two months i end up thinking: "i wonder what the librarian is up to."
i was just watching your other Gmod haunted vids lol
nice thanks for the vids
New subscriber here and I greatly enjoy your spooky content! Just in time for the spooky season! Keep it up, man!
My day: doing my daily routine, exhausted and tired
RUclips: New librarian upload notification
My day: is better now
Oh we eatin GOOD TONIGHT
HOUR LONG LETS GOOOOOOOOO
This map is a acid trip
Horror baby, the most legendary baby to ever exist
I feel like the constant changes in building design and geometry and such creates this sense of wearing you down, and it's probably even worse in VR. LIke you keep trying to look for a way out yet keep coming to new sections that transition into different sections ad infinitum. You keep thinking "this has to be it" and then it just keeps on going.
Very much fits my sense that liminal space maps were designed for humans, by beings that are NOT human and don't actually understand anything human.
Man a way to totally break the mood is if that toilet at around 21 minutes played the "time to take a piss" meme. it would've been pretty funny though.
I HAVENT EVEN CLICKED PLAY AND I LOVE THIS VIDEO AAA
Have you ever thought about playing F.E.A.R Mr Librarian? It's kinda like an FPS Liminal space horror game
This makes me oddly at peace, even though you can never know what to expect.
Your videos would not be same without horror baby or safety Glock. Great stuff I’ve been binging your videos for a few days now
Can't wait to watch this ^^ late again. but still great content. 💕
places you've seen in your dreams for me was highly unsettling. enjoyable... but unsettling nevertheless. =)
looking forward to watching more. ^-^
> door closes
> pulls out da beamer
Love how you can push that sentient table 👌
He switched to the gun so fast 😂
Love your exploration videos
I've never paid attention but have you ever played Superliminal? I have had it forever, played like 2 hours of it last night and it's some crazy stuff, it is very "liminal" inspired but the puzzles are wild and wacky to say the least.
your videos make me imagine this is what dipper would be doing after gravity falls ended
✌
I love these videos exploring maps
Mate, if that was my toilet, id piss myself before even setting foot into what can only be calles a tunnel. Its so narrow, yet it feels like youre sitting on a silver plate for some cosmic horror f you know what i mean
4:16 So... That exact table was hanging out by the curb next to my building all day yesterday. It was gone this morning. I am not ok.
For his neutral special, he wields a gun
I remember when I played shlups_liminal map I got so fuckin terrified from the secret jumpscare/spook lmfa
You know what would be a good addon for your exploration videos? Some kind of spray paint thing. That way you can mark where you've been. Like what doors you've used or whatever. I don't know if such a thing exists tho.
Spray chalk. Not harmful and easy to remove.
Forgot to eat today, and I sware I thought the rumbling in the beginning was my stomach.
36:11 and thats called "phantom sense" my friend.
Omg that bathroom was wild lol
