One of the hardest things ever is coming home at night when it's raining, turning the car off, and then actually bringing myself to leave the car. The residual warmth from the car, the sound of rain, if it wasn't so weird I'd probably just sleep right there.

This is probably my favorite RP map, although I don’t do multiplayer RP. I have a save where I “live” in one of the studio apartments at the top of the first hill. I find them cozier than the big apartments in the high rise, which feel too exposed to the storm for me. I spawned a bunch of props into “my” apartment, and even populated some of the stores on the street below. The little one closest to the station is a convenience store, and the run down one in Lowtown sells used computer equipment (and have a hacking lab in the back office). I love the feeling of coming in out of the rain to some place warm and well lit. I can’t even imagine what that must feel like in VR. I agree with you about the bars vs the night club. I sort of wish there were a coffeehouse though-even more my style than the bars. The night club is one of the better ones I have seen though, but nothing can top the clubs in Union City and Southside, with their interactive DJ booths. I don’t know if you’ve played those maps, but they are IMHO the peak of detail in GMod maps (right up there with Xanthys and Boreas). Also, I have played in this map a LOT, but never found that really dark lower shaft. I assumed that one was an instakill pit that could be used by criminals to dispose of bodies. Amazing that there is still more to discover.
the relaxing feeling that comes from trains is because there's no sense of urgency, like you said it is like a cradle, instead of rushing to some place in a car, or being stuck for hours in a giant flying tuna can with a crying baby, your just... there, flawlessly gliding across the tracks with a few other people. instead of a bunch of twists and turns and highways and intersection with hundreds of people on them, its just one straight route with the occasional bend or stop, its a rare case where the lack of decision or choice makes it better
Insulation from danger is wherein lies comfy. I love how you articulate the ways this concept is used in this map and others. It reminds me of when I was a young boy I used to imagine being inside streetlamps or headlights behind the glass, feeling the warmth, insulated from the elements. I haven't thought about that for a long time
That club music is...euphoric, as someone who's "gone out a lot". There is this sort of build up when you hear the music of a club you're not too sure your going to get into . Hoping your ID is right, you're not too drunk, the bouncer doesn't look at you funny. All while that roaring and thudding of the music challenges and beckons you like the outside of a boss arena.
I'm in love with this map, I wish I could live there it just seems , so clean, neat, safe... I could just work in a donut shop and have my tiny loft with brick walls and wooden floors...
I can not overstate my love for the rain, to be in it and to be near it is all I ask for. I watch your videos at night and I have tried to watch this one a total of 5 times. Its just that each time I do I fall asleep, lulled into a relaxed slumber by the sounds of the rain and your comfortable voice. There no real way to describe it your voice just has an aspect to it, maybe it could also be the way you talk but I find your voice and your "ramblings" so soothing to listen too.
It's funny because I just played this map a year ago, I didn't know it would appear in your channel! Also I agree with someone in this comment section that it needs Halo 3 ODST music.
If I were to make a Librarian GMod Video Bingo card, the free space would definitely read "There's something about X that.../What is it about X that..."
Your videos are the ultimate comfy for me, I love your commentary on these maps as it's much different to the reactionary type commentary a lot of videos have these days. There's nothing better than settling down on a Friday night with a glass of wine, relaxing and experiencing these maps with you. I'm happy I found your channel. Thank you
This is definitely my favourite map yet. The tree in an abandoned warehouse alone is breathtaking! The lights from the windows in that decrepit house, the sound of the rain changing depending on where you are, the amount of places to see, the sewer hidey holes, and the amount of detail in all of those things is just unparalleled.
Man just hearing rain splashing against the roof of a building while inside in a warm and cosy environment really is like one of the best aesthetically pleasing things ever regardless of the situation your in. And I mean that specifically for horror themed maps or sections in horror games, it kinda gives you a breather for a brief moment and almost makes you forget you are in a creepy environment or there's a threat around somewhere constantly trying to hunt you down.
The detail in the lightning is actually really realistic, you see the lightening bolt and then you hear the thunder a couple seconds later. Just like in real life.
Good day Lib i'm your supporter on your Community. I lived on Philippines and my country is considered as Tropical which means Rain is common as well. I've also had any moments of being lonely when during this days probably when i was young, my father used to bring me in his office during nighttime while thunderstorm and all i had to do is slept on their resting room with beds and eat at Pantry. I get the feeling of being cozy and alone because no one is around me and some other people is on duty and work but i'm allowed to do anything without restriction except going into longer areas.
Man, this video popped up in my recommended right when I needed it. Been in a grumpy mood all day, so just being able to chill out with a video of you exploring the comfy & creepy (creepfy?) city here was pretty great. Dunno why I wasn't subbed yet, but that's fixed now.
This map feels like home. Like if you imagined somewhere that felt like home, sometimes you imagine a small town, walking with your friends and playing with them and as you grow, the town does too. It feels like you've been here before and you want to stay there.
There is a feeling of walking home in rain that is so comforting to me. I don't know how to explain it, but there are some days that I wish I could feel it at all times
This map fills me with a calming feeling, almost as if I was there in real life, from hearing the rain plop down onto the roof, all the way to the dim lights filling the streets... And that's just from watching somebody else play the map! Can't wait to play the map myself!
"If you screamed out at night for help, someone would probably hear you" but no one would come to your aid. which actually makes it even scarier its the illusion of safety that makes you feel safe
Please god look into the long dark, it has that exact weather effect you're looking for, being inside a building during heavy winds or a blizzard makes you feel how cold it is, I practically have to play this game specifically in the summer so I don't freeze whilst playing. It's one of my favorite games and seeing you play it would be the best
I swear we need someone to make a giant edit of out of context quotes from these videos, cuz seizing the means of Garry’s mod production is a great quote
I've watched your for a long time without subscribing (sorry), and then I forgot about you for a while, but seeing this video in my recommended gave me a wave of memory about some of your prior videos, and you really do deserve a lot larger of a community, you do very comfortable content and its highly bingable and enjoyable.
In regards to the stairs issue, I feel like its worth mentioning that matching the stair's geometry to be an actual stair rather than a ramp can be important to anyone who uses the map for scenes or posing, and I've noticed as well that the foot placement on AI actors can fairly accurately detect the geometry too, so rather than an NPC looking like they're standing on a flat platform at whatever altitude they're at, the engine will actually position their legs and feet to be resting on the step. I can definitely understand having the collision be ramp-shaped makes VR a lot less jarring, but in the many things GMod and Source is used for, I think VR is still a niche case and the reasons why you would want the stair geometry to match stairs are more common. I absolutely love your videos, just my take on something I've heard you bring up a few times.
That's called IK, inverse kinematics, and if you use the "player clip" texture it will exclusively affect player entities (which don't have IK anyway) and nothing else, it is also not only relevant for VR as the vibrating camera is jarring in pancake mode too, it's why TF2 had clipped stairs as standard since its release in 2007.
I appreciate your videos so much, man. I make comics using Gmod and when I don't build scenes, I use maps. Watching your videos gives me perspective on these maps and gives me ideas for visuals which is super useful
i'm pretty sure "A Bar" is an homage the sitcom Cheers from the '80s, the entrance and square bar in the middle of the room look near identical. Wonder how many other references are a part of the map.
Watched this last night as I was going to bed and it was raining out. Please keep doing what you're doing, words cannot describe how underrated this channel is.
I love this map! I'm so glad you got to play it! Thanks for all you do Librarian! Edit: I also had a rainy exploration map in the works (gmod map) and this video is so fitting to what I'm doing
Hi Librarian! I really enjoy your GMod exploration/scary map videos. Your commentary is both interesting and relaxing. I've recently found your channel and I've gotta say: It's a treat!
I cannot tell you how relieved I am to have come across this. Watching you play RP_Ashpit and RP_Asheville filled me with an abiding existential dread and I needed some fast-acting eye and ear bleach after those experiences. RP_Asheville was not as bad although you could tell whatever went down in RP_Asheville was a 💩💥⚙ situation, but RP_Ashpit took the storyline for that idea, turned it up to 11, and roundhouse sucker-punched me in the face and gut with it, to the point that I was actually shuddering with fear along with you. Seeing that monochromatic commie block (specifically a khrushchyovka) literally took me right back to seeing the Simpsons Treehouse of Horror episode entitled Saakashvili Spring in a high school animation class a few years ago and the unbridled panic and sadness that shot through me that day. I believe that was right around the time Russia annexed the Crimean Peninsula from Ukraine back in 2014. The first thing I also thought of in RP_Asheville was the city scenes in The Last of Us when Joel and Ellie are seen strolling on foot through the cities and towns along their way from back east to the Fireflies' hideout in my hometown of Salt Lake City, Utah to try to help find a cure for the cordyceps infection. RP_Downpour actually gave me an idea for a furry ASMR video where a friendly furry (most likely a colleague from work or classmate from college whom the YCH character has known since grade school) offers to walk my fursona home while holding a large umbrella over him in the severe thunderstorm even though he not only doesn't mind getting wet, but relies on it after overheating on an especially blistering midsummer afternoon while we catch up on what we have been doing with our lives since we lost contact with and found each other once again.
I could put this video when I try to sleep, it will for shure make me fall asleep as fast as a baby. Besides that the map is great, there is a lot of spot where you can just chill and relax.
@The Librarian You didn't seem to catch them but theirs two custom buttons on this map one in the police station that sounds an alarm and closes a giant gate closing off the slums from the upper city, also theirs a Bank with a custom vault with a button. I always imagined this map's story as being a case of a class struggle and the rich or whatever has secluded themselves to the upper city I also think this could very easily be turned into a Half life 2 map all you'd have to do is add a citadel out in the background looming over the city, put up propaganda and further segment the city with combine walls.
I really wish there would be a few less jumpcuts, even though I completely understand why they are necessary (and they most likely even increase the overall watch-time), it seems that when I'm just about to get into that mood and start taking in the atmosphere, the video cuts. Still, cuts or no cuts, I absolutely love these map exploration videos!
I want to address this, because it's something that I always consider when editing these videos. Basically, some people will appreciate the time to soak in the atmosphere of a map, while others will wonder why I'm showing basically dead air. In this video, I was going to try and find a compromise by showing the walks between areas in their entirety, but play the jazzy theme from Fire Walk With Me, both to enhance the mood, and to indicate that it's intended as a moment to take things in. It was at very low volume, just there to make it clear that these segments are SUPPOSED to be there. Content ID had other ideas though, which was a little unexpected, since I thought the low volume and constant rain would allow it to slip by.
I would find it amazing if one of those maps makes it so that if you activate multiplayer, the game adds no horror aspect while in singleplayer mode you get horror theme
We need more maps like this, a lot of Gmod Maps are really creepy but Gmod can also have very comforting spaces, like in portal 2 (at least to me) the maps were really calming because of All the foliage growing around the abandoned aperture science, I don't know why I find it comforting but I'm just really relaxed every time I play the game. But as I was saying, Gmod Maps can be comfy, such as mall maps, rainy cities at night, even abandoned buildings with vines growing around them, I don't know, I just find source games oddly comforting at times. I've tried to create good Gmod Maps numerous times because of this, but I guess it's not really my thing, if anyone with mapmaking experience is willing to do this, I will definitely play the map. I am still trying to make maps though.
At 6:49 you have a problem with not being able to see the lamp post. In order to not have the problem with not seeing stuff you should increase the draw distance using life-mod. (In the graphical settings make sure to disable the other improvements or keep them)
I really love your videos, i like to watch them while falling asleep (yes i know that sounds weird if u think that u upload horror content) because they are so calming. Please make more parts where u react to scarry videos.

35:29 oh god, that area specifically really reminds me of the old HL2 machinima series 'Civil Protection' specifically the tunnel episode.
Your videos make me wanna explore some old buildings and empty places.
I know, right? If I didn't have security concerns, I think I'd legit start exploring by now thanks to The Librarian.
It's funny because I just played this map a year ago, I didn't know it would appear in your channel!
Also I agree with someone in this comment section that it needs Halo 3 ODST music.
6:42 love that quote
I love just getting recommended this, and being jumpscared by the difference of your voice haha, nowadays you seem much more comfortable :>
36:51 I really like those two movies!
Especially 'Wrongfully Accused"
Man, this video popped up in my recommended right when I needed it. Been in a grumpy mood all day, so just being able to chill out with a video of you exploring the comfy & creepy (creepfy?) city here was pretty great.
Dunno why I wasn't subbed yet, but that's fixed now.
(casuallly) sending grenades up the elevator
This map feels like home. Like if you imagined somewhere that felt like home, sometimes you imagine a small town, walking with your friends and playing with them and as you grow, the town does too. It feels like you've been here before and you want to stay there.
There is a feeling of walking home in rain that is so comforting to me. I don't know how to explain it, but there are some days that I wish I could feel it at all times
Gather round people, the evenin just got better.
"kind of a big hospital" uh yeah, i sure hope it does
Sound of the rain is just relaxing with the side of nervousness with the how to Maps lighting is it's a perfect mixture
This map fills me with a calming feeling, almost as if I was there in real life, from hearing the rain plop down onto the roof, all the way to the dim lights filling the streets... And that's just from watching somebody else play the map! Can't wait to play the map myself!
I love watching these exploration videos, especially the vr ones. The VR makes it feel as if you are actually there exploring it, in real life.
bro this content is right up my alley i'm always too scared to explore the maps i play
There's a map named "RP_Southside", it's similar to this one, it also got it's own underground system, but the map is more comfy than creepy.
I love how libraian voice's suddenly go up when he sees an light house.
"If you screamed out at night for help, someone would probably hear you" but no one would come to your aid. which actually makes it even scarier
its the illusion of safety that makes you feel safe
I jumped out of my soul at 15:50
Please keep doing videos like this. These are super relaxing to watch at the end of the day. Creepy comfy is right.
love that you're exploring this one, though i think you should have looked at rp_unioncity first, cause scale is a big part of both these maps
this reminds me of the campaign known as no mercy in l4d 1-2
It reminded me of that too.
I'm completely serious I've suggested it on your discord and I will buy this game for you if I have to.
Ah, Yes finally some more relaxing maps instead of a horror map. (not that i dont like the horror maps) just i miss the more relaxing maps.
That basement bar is one of the coziest looking places I've ever seen
Im not from america neither from uk. Are these common bars in your country too?
I didn't think how regular is to come over a bar with that aesthetic
The child like "Oh its a lighthouse! I wanna go see the lighthouse!" Was childlike, but fitting for the librarians childhood stuff he talks about
Really loving your videos and commentary man. You’re a gem. Keep up the liminal space dives.
I’ve taken trains most of my life, and I never made the connection of it being like a cradle. That’s a perfect comparison.
watching this guys video is like a therapy session or sm
15:03
That's a funny way of saying "You know I keep that mf thang on me." lmfao
jesus, that underground. Like imagine being down there and trying to run from someone or someTHING that knows it like the back of their hand
My favorite map, a friend recommended you, played this map for the first time on a really good half life RP server, fit perfectly.
Great video.
RUclips compression really ruined the part at 22:05 so I suggest everyone to download the map and take a look themselves
I appreciate your videos so much, man. I make comics using Gmod and when I don't build scenes, I use maps. Watching your videos gives me perspective on these maps and gives me ideas for visuals which is super useful
I'm so happy you covered this map! This is my favorite Gmod map of all time, I'm glad you enjoyed it!
i'm pretty sure "A Bar" is an homage the sitcom Cheers from the '80s, the entrance and square bar in the middle of the room look near identical.
I think this is my favorite map so far just by how comfy the rain ambiance feels.
Ayyy Les go!
My favorite Gmod map!
It's so extremely atmospheric and nice, genuinely relaxing just to boot it up and just explore around sometimes.
Your videos are the best your very calm and not yelling everything, keep up the good work your very underrated
Daam bro
I find your videos very soothing, absolutely perfect to turn on for background chatter while I'm doing something productive. Thank you!
Thank you Richter overtime for Introducing me to this channel because your videos are amazing.
God I love hearing your commentary on maps, especially well-made ones like these
I could put this video when I try to sleep, it will for shure make me fall asleep as fast as a baby.
Besides that the map is great, there is a lot of spot where you can just chill and relax.
This gives me some No Mercy vibes from Left 4 Dead
Played TnB ZombieRP back in the day. This was one of the maps on rotation.
I remember trying to play on this map but it ran too slow on my Laptop 😅but it's cool to see you explore it without the same Lag!
I love hearing you describe the maps as you walk through them.
So glad I found this channel, love your commentary
So you know how a creepy thing is taking something normal and familiar, and then violating it somehow? Maps like this are that, minus the violation.
thank you for the new video man i really enjoy these
I would find it amazing if one of those maps makes it so that if you activate multiplayer, the game adds no horror aspect while in singleplayer mode you get horror theme
This place is cozy enough just to sit there and think of anything
I *_like_* the "bumpety-bump" going up and down stairs! _lol_
Ah yes where the slibidki toilets took over
Love your content, keep up the hard work.
I am still trying to make maps though.
as an ex-avid darkrp player, I can tell you without a doubt that the warehouse tree at 24:32 is an excellent hobo cult staging area
At 6:49 you have a problem with not being able to see the lamp post. In order to not have the problem with not seeing stuff you should increase the draw distance using life-mod. (In the graphical settings make sure to disable the other improvements or keep them)
ThTs actually really cool that you were a lighthouse keeper, I would love to here more about it
I think he’s talking about his nothing lives under the lighthouse series
I know this is over a year old, but this one really helped tonight
I really love your videos, i like to watch them while falling asleep (yes i know that sounds weird if u think that u upload horror content) because they are so calming. Please make more parts where u react to scarry videos.
That mirror room got me good too and I watched this video to see your reaction to it😂
I always get excited when I see you post a VR Gmod video
