Amazing. I'm the creator of this map and I always fantasized about playing this map and others in VR. I'm not sure how this video came up in my suggested videos but I'm glad it did. Very well done play through and commentary. To answer some of your questions the reason this addon came with two maps is because the "classic" version was modified specifically for my server called classic sandbox, the reason it was raining underground was to simulate drips or leaky pipes if you will, and as you figured out the set of buttons by alot of the doors were to lock and unlock them which was a common feature in older RP maps (yes this map was made primarily for RP and Sandbox). If anyone has any more questions feel free to ask.
Sometimes people mistaken the lock buttons as light switches, the map gave me a very nostalgic vibe everytime i play it. you did a very great map for everyone, Also you forgot what's the purpose of the Combine Energy core on the manager's office

A man wakes up on the roof of a hotel, not knowing where, or who, he is. Getting to his feet and looking around, he can see another tall building, conjoined to his by a few metal grate bridges and platforms. When he wakes, this will only be a dream, but for now, he is trapped in an ever vivid nightmare.
Imagine that theres more than just one man, but a bunch of people just stuck there. unsure how they got there, or how to escape. And imagine having to live there for a large amount of time there
Hey, The Librarian, I'm sure that you won't notice this message, but I had to say it. You are considered to be my life savior, for real. I've been watching you since you had 6K subscribers. I don't know exactly how long it's been, I guess almost a year and a half. Such comfort and nostalgic content you give us. I was hearing your storys every night while eating. It was the best thing. You were and still are my best content creator, and it's an amazing upgrade how you started posting about Garry's Mod, Minecraft, and all other horror games, and such an amazing commentary you do, it makes it so much better. Words on it own can't explain the feeling. What I wanted to say is you literally saved my life, I was going through the worst thing in my life, my worst ever experience, my mother... She was so sick, I was with her out of our city to get her the needed medical treatment. We we're staying where my sister lives, my job was to take care of her and provide all her needs while my sister does the same when she get home from work, I was feeling so sad but I tried to hide it near her, what I do remember is that I downloaded on my phone your "No One Lives Under The Lighthouse" series, while watching out for her, I was holding my phone, wearing a headset, so i dont disturb her, and watch your so amazing commentary and gameplay, it helped me feel so much better, it was so comforting, also the way the game was made, ps2 graphic styles, reminded me of my childhood, I was so interested to know what would happen. that's the last thing i remember. After it, the only thing i remember was that, she died... A little while after it... I can't describe how bad i was feeling, I won't say anything about it, the only thing i still remember, I could've done bad things to myself but no, I was watching your videos, you might not noticed the effect your doing but you really calmed me down so much, the same day she passed away, I watched your videos on night, while my eyes are full of tears, I hope you see this, I just wanted you to see this to know how big of an positive effect you did to me and the whole world, your saving lifes, I just want you to keep doing what your doing and never stop like ever, I'll be here always enjoying your content, Thanks for everything.
@@Arlein He's super calming and I like that about his videos. It helps me calm down after bad days whenever he uploads. I'm sorry for your lost though.
I’d also like to note how liminal the map actually is without intending to since it was first released in 2013. In fact it’s a different type of liminal feel, more similar to the comfy blender pool room images than the creepier more unsettling kind of feeling other popular liminal maps tend to have, and since it was entirely accidental it actually feels a bit more genuine in my opinion.
27:20 I think you were supposed to come across that experience when exploring rather than jumping down, so thats why the rain was a little weird. Sort of like a solice while in the darkness, just feeling the light and rain coming from outside yet unreachable. But I do like the way you did it by plunging yourself into the abyss. Also another note for 28:44, its the part of the hotel thats jutting out the side, thats why its just void underneath. The bottom of the real hotel goes much much further down
Regarding the black window at 12:17: I'm not a GMod expert and I don't know how much its reflection code differs from Half-Life 2, but my guess is that reflections don't work on func_breakable_surf entities (the ones that do the shattering effect.) The other two windows, however, could be regular func_breakables or world geometry. Notice how Librarian didn't shoot the other two windows, so my theory can apply, but that would be a strange design choice.
Nice exploration video! Went looking around myself, found spoilery somethings I figure are worth leaving a comment about: + The cat photo can be used. This plays a remix of that one HL1 track people like. + The more "prison-y" tower (the one with the yard) contains an "admin control room" sort of deal, which can repair windows and walls, unlock all doors, control the presence of a floating "build platform"... and I don't know what "Emergency: Move To Higher Ground" would be. + The same room with an entrance to the ratman's area also has a rock shaft in the ceiling leading to the admin room, and also a vent to the corridor with the teleporter to the cat room. + The hide-and-seek-spot is hiding a breakable wall. I suspect there's breakable walls all over the place.

Since you never seemed to figure it out, I’ll inform you of the purpose of those dual buttons next to some of the doors: They are to lock and unlock the door they are next to. I have never played gmod in my entire life, but there's something enjoyable about watching you go around these maps by yourself. I'm not quite sure what it is, but I find your commentary and "youtube persona" quite endearing. It's slightly cheesy in just the right ways ;)
A couple different things here say a lot about how little design things that guide the eye, intentional or not, can add to the mood of a space: the mirror didn’t spook you, because it had a frame and was positioned so that you didn’t see your own reflection first upon entering the room. Meanwhile, the red buttons in the pitch dark room spooked you, because the room offers an open doorway straight ahead, where a balcony over a huge void distracts you just enough that as you turn to leave, the two beady red lights peeking around a corner have the element of surprise.

Not only is it a bit of an unsettling detail that the spooky section of the Hotel is on the 666th Floor, but what is interesting about that number is that it also gives an idea of how tall this Hotel probably is. For comparison, the Burj Khalifa (the tallest building in the world as of 2022) has 163 floors, and is 740 meters high (not counting the antennae, in which case it is 830 meters high). That would mean this Hotel is at least 3000 meters tall.
So, I did try this map back in 2014-17, back when I had GMod on my MacBook. I don't know about the spooky parts yet, since I'm still at the very beginning of the video, but I did try out a game I like to call One vs All, which was just me spawning a bunch of Combine soldiers to see how long I would last fighting them on this map, and one with the Sanic Nextbot, which was pretty fun and scary. super early for a video but, I love your stuff, youve reignited my love for gaming and horror and for that I am in your debt!
I've been busy the past week or two, so its such a delight to finally get back to watching your videos!
18:05 when you put horror baby on those cases my internet cut off
I love your content and that you are so chill. And you also feel like a narrator
Cool! This has to be one of my favourite gmod maps to explore.
I love this map. It's completely surreal yet unlike some modern liminal maps it still has its own internal logic.
Very interesting.
i use to love this map back in the day when i played Gmod. Such a cool map.
Bro do you think you could have a look at the Gmod map hometown 1999 or hometown 2000
They are very nostalgic feeling (to me at least) and also i always have feeling of being watched and I'd love to see you do it in VR
3:54 that’s a good name for a band
