First thing I thought when I saw the thumbnail was Silent Hill. I will always love how distinct Silent Hill is. It also shows how much of a influence it has had for the horror genre over the past 20 years. Too bad, we won't ever get anything like the 4 Silent Hill games gave us ever again. 😥
This was such a surprise. That there would be another entry. Another actual entry. One I could admire. But then as suddenly as it came, it left. And now you disband. Your influence and inspiration will never leave me. ~for all you silenthill P.T .fans out there
Silent hill 2 "born from a wish" has achieved PEAK atmosphere for "loneliness" exploring the Edwin mansion as maria and the conversations between two ghost grappling with their non existence is truly one of my favorite points in horror ever. A lot of people love sh2 but they sleep on the expansion
There’s something that leads to the overall sense of confusion on this map. There are very obvious signs that people just left. Simultaneously, they are very obvious signs that some of the buildings haven’t been functioning properly for quite a while. Add to that the feeling like, maybe you’re not safe here because of the unknown reason everyone else left and it’s no wonder this map feels so uncomfortable
It's interesting how a good map maker can play with your instincts and give you the feeling that there is something wrong just with subtle environmental storytelling, even if you aren't consciously picking up on it.
This quote doesn't refer to "monsters" like you see in science fictions or in heroic fantasy games. This quote from Gramsci is to be replaced in the context of early 20th century Italy, were a slow industrialization lead to big socioeconomic changes, and wars looming over Europe. Here, Gramsci says that the old traditional Italy is dying due to modernization, but at the same time, no new political system seems to emerge to fix the actual socioeconomic problems. In this times of uncertainty, "monsters" are born, fascism is one of them, (Gramsci died in prison under Mussolini's regime).
This is one of the most anxious and tense I’ve ever been watching one of these maps, and I watched it in the daytime. I adore the ambiance, the meta lore, and the fact that there are no jumpscares. The drip-fed dread was great
Lately I’ve been seeing videos about Abiotic Factor, which is a HL1 inspired survival crafting game. I was watching Vinny (of vinesauce) playing, mostly for the wacky multiplayer antics, but the game actually takes a really interesting turn. At one point, you take a portal out of the science complex and wind up in just this sort of environment: urban, thick fog, eerily empty… I think the vibe actually somehow manages to survive in the face of several friends clowning around and the monsters that show up. I really like that they added that area to the game. It clearly takes inspiration from The Mist, the same story that also helped to inspire HL1. I think it’s a good sign when people making an homage to something are also obviously engaged with media and ideas that contributed to the original.
This guy's VR Gmod Exploring videos are like an analog horror series goldmine, his voice and commentary are both what makes these videos entertaining, hearing the fear in his voice makes you realize how far video games have gotten, before it was just some images flashing with loud sounds, now they actually make feel like your actually in danger. Keep up the good work dude.
actually from my experience in stuff when the lights in the lightposts are yellow and blinking non-switch it means it's a area of risk and you need to get out of there.
Honestly this is just a random thought, but after your Control playthrough I always thought it’d be cool if you had the Service Weapon in place of the Safety Glock. Or just swap between them each episode depending on the vibes of the map.
Really atmospheric map with an endlessly unnerving apocalypse that we're not quite sure of, always a fan of those. Almost reminds me of that one map, Chris played with the entire underground temple complex underneath that desert area.
45:26 for those curious Exodus 9:15 reads as follows: "For now I will stretch out my hand, that I may smite thee and thy people with pestilence; and thou shalt be cut off from the earth."
I can find it so hard to focus and concentrate these days, especially on slow paced things that aren't filled with a lot of visual and auditory stimulation, but I'm trying to watch this, at least for a little bit, and am about 5 and a half minutes in and it's nice, calming, and soothing. Idk, the atmosphere, your voice probably too. Also it's giving me major old feelings. I think it's because I used to watch a lot of Silent Hill as a kid growing up and sorta fell off that as I moved away from horror. In a way this is soothing because of that feeling of connection to my childhood, better times, simpler times. When I could focus on a foggy spooky town. When I wasn't constantly on the defense trying to anticipate the next thing that comes up in life, when I was okay with being scared or surprised. Why are the most positive things in this life so hard to actively do? Those scant few times I find myself able to focus for a bit on something relaxing, I always find it so nice yet it's so hard to initiate in the first place.

I have a solution to being scared on these types of maps. Carry a Glock with a flashlight Attachment. You could also use a 12 Guage shotgun, like the SPAS-12. An assault rifle such as the M4A1 would also do the job.
Librarian: "...Dark silhouettes of playground equipment... as the snow falls silently overhead..." Me on that moment: "patrolling the nuclear winter almost makes you wish of the Mojave..."
