Razor Blades (Tom Brier) played by me in concert

  • Tom was the one and only that inspired me to start learning piano. I had heard ragtime before and thought nothing of it, but when Tom played it I instantly fell in love with every little part of his style.
    Even to this day years later I still watch RUclips videos of him every day.
    This was my first time ever performing at concert, it was a piano student concert and I was honored to be invited to perform.
    The grand piano, felt amazing. It sounded very balanced and felt great for ragtime. This was not a paid concert, and there were about 30 other people who also performed (audience was approximately 90 people in total including the other perfomers).
    Recorded on the 3rd of June in 2022 using a Zoom H1n microphone with no effects, a Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge and two iPhones.

      I'm glad to see young people discovering ragtime. Tom has inspired many people (including me) to start playing piano. Currently I am learning a few of his waltzes(The Stygian Waltzes & Sunlight and Shadow), they are quite magical.

    I also like the spin you gave this, by starting slow, and then going much fast er. :)
    Your playing kinda sounds like Tom’s too!

      Thanks, I appreciate it! I combined most of what I heard Tom play from different performances of it. I try my best to sound like Tom, I love the style. Playing in a concert was an interesting experience. The day leading up to my performance I almost had a panic attack, I had trouble sleeping and I was anxious. But with time that will fade away if you keep playing in concerts, this concert was organized by a music school which I'm not even in :D.
      I really look forward to attending a ragtime festival sometime in the future, sadly there's nothing like it Sweden :(. But if I one day go to the U.S, I will definitely attend to one.

    Wow! That piano has a very nice tone to it! I love how some of higher tenor notes have a nice blooming sound to them and whole thing has a very nice timbery tone. You should do more recordings on it if you can, maybe ask the owner if you can do a recording session on it! I'd like to visit the Scandinavian region in general so maybe I'll drop by Sweden :D

    • @Tarzoq
      @Tarzoq  2 года назад +1

      That piano has to be one of the best sounding acoustic pianos I have ever played on yet. Hopefully I can get access to it in the future. And if I do, I will be sure to record it. If you do go to Sweden, it would so fun to meet you, have piano duets and all that stuff. I have never met anyone yet who can play any ragtime songs, though ragtime is very unusual here in Sweden so it's not surprising.

      @@Tarzoq I'd love to play a duet with you! I've done duets in the past and they're so much fun! As far as ragtime goes, yes, I've noticed it's not as common a genre in Sweden though Denmark and Norway seem to be on par with it. There is actually a Swedish Ragtime Society run by Oleg Mujesev (I think that's how you spell his name). You should check them out :D

    Bravo! Jag skulle aldrig ha kunnat utfört den där snabba oktav delan så där bra. Skulle också vilja dela videos där jag spelar men har tyvärr inte tillgång till något fungerade akustiskt piano (endast ett keyboard, vet dock inte hur man spelar in ljudet direkt från enheten utan att man hör ”klickandet” från tangenterna). Som sagt, otroligt bra ljud du får ur flygeln!! 🎹🎹

    • @Tarzoq
      @Tarzoq  2 года назад

      Tack så mycket! Finns det inte någon musikaffär i närheten där du bor? Om du kan koppla in hörlurar i pianot på så sätt att du dessutom får ljud ut i högtalarna, så kan du (om du har en dator) koppla ljudkabel mellan pianot och in till datorn genom "Line In", och sedan spela in på datorn med ett program som t.ex Audacity. Samtidigt som du spelar in video, sedan synkar du bara ihop det i ett redigeringsprogram.

    • @tim_e478
      @tim_e478 2 года назад

      @@Tarzoq Jag bor i en relativt liten stad så den närmaste musikaffären ligger förmodligen i Nyköping, drygt 40 min bort. Jag ska börja på gymnasium i Nyköping så förhoppningsvis kan jag få tillgång till något piano där, vi får se.
      För ett tag sedan köpte jag en sladd som man kopplar mellan pianot och datorn. Med sladden kan jag spela in MIDI med ett online program, enda problemet är att jag inte har något bra/gratis program som kan spela upp dessa filer utan att pedal och andra utmärkelser försvinner. Jag kommer testa Audacity för att se om det kan hjälpa mig, ska dock bort i en vecka så det kommer dröja ett tag innan jag har möjlighet att utforska programmet.

      Förlåt, det jag menade i min förra kommentar var en ljudkabel som kopplas in i pianots hörlursuttag. Kan du koppla in en ljudkabel och ändå få ut ljud i högtalarna? För i så fall hade det funkat jättebra att spela in i Audacity. Det skulle också funka om du har en hörlursplitter(som delar ett 3.5mm uttag till 2st) där du kan få ljud både till dator och hörlurar.
      Annars finns det ett program som heter "midieditor" som kan laddas ner från www.midieditor.org/ . Detta ska kunna spela in MIDI samt pedal. Om detta funkar så kan du om du vill skicka midi filen till "Piotr Barcz YT#7668" på discord. Han är duktig med MIDI filer och har dyra plugins med bra pianoljud.

    • @tim_e478
      @tim_e478 2 года назад

      @@Tarzoq Kabeln jag har går inte in i hörlursuttaget men snarare ett annat uttag menat för kabeln, dock kan jag samtidigt som kabeln sitter i få ut ljud ur högtalarna precis som du beskriver.
      Jag ska testa spela in en Midi-fil och sedan skicka den till Piotr för att se om han kan förvandla den till något värdigt. Tack för tipset om Midieditor, verkar vara det program som jag sökt efter all denna tid.
