    This video helped me so much!! I got the mower from my father in law who had tried the starter solenoid and had left it as it was, by passing the normal start method. While checking the switch position on the exact same switch, I found that the switch wire was actually damaged and broken in two. I fixed the connections and BINGO, it started like a charm. Thanks for the video!!

    Man this is good stuff I have a much older ZTR50 and it has the exact same issue the safety switch was not fully engaged. I only found it by mistake shaking and moving the levers gave me the clue!

    You are the man and you save me a bunch of money. I had the same exact issue with my 2018 hustler raptor SD with a 60 inch deck. I’ve checked Continuity on my starter relay on the starter on my switch and everything your video helped out very much. Thank you.

    Thank you so much for this video…our mower just abruptly stopped cranking/ it would turn over but wouldn’t crank. We did everything from change spark plugs to clean carburetor to checking everything possible until we had given up. I told my husband I’d look on RUclips and this was the first video I pulled up, tried it and sure enough after two days of troubleshooting-this was the problem the whole time! Sure wish I would’ve saw this before we went thru the trouble, but none the less, problem solved! Thanks again!!!

    I have a 42'' Huster Raptor but not this exact model. It is very similar to mine and I have had issues starting for years. Today I tried to get it to start for well over an hour and finally gave up. The last time I cut the grass it must have taken 150 tries before it finally started. After watching this video I immediately went to my shed with a flashlight and I have the same safety switches. However, mine appear to go in much farther than the ones on this mower did before adjustment. I was hoping that wouldn't be the case but maybe they still need to be adjusted. Tomorrow I will see if this does the trick.

    I was thinking it might be some sort of safety switch. My old Toro riding mower has safety switches which are finicky sometimes.

    To test them wih a meter, pull the connector off, use alligator clips and clip on the two contacts, set meter to beep ohm continuity, push button in with finger, if beeps continuity and switch is good.

      Make sure the parking brake is off and pull the handles in at the same time. If that doesn’t work, it would need to be diagnosed with a multi meter.

    Hey there, I did re-adjust my Steering Levers' safety switches. It helped the mower start once after that, but now back to "nothing" when I turn the key. New Ignition Switch, no change. Turn key: no clicking, no noise, no crank. Nothing. Any ideas what next?

    • @JohnsonsSmallEngines
      @JohnsonsSmallEngines  11 месяцев назад

      Could be many things, start by re-checking the safety switch adjustment, blown fuse?bad safety switch? bad starter solenoid? To diagnose it properly you would need a either a multi meter or 12volt test light.

      Mine started and mine has a rocker switch for up and down and I just bought this yesterday mind you! So I started it lowered the deck....too low so went to raise it and couldn't get it to raise so I shut it off! I pushed the mower switch down and tried to start it and NOTHING! The only thing I see is the fuel guage go up!!! Any ideas?

    • @docjody8624
      @docjody8624 10 месяцев назад

      Turns out, bad Solenoid. New Solenoid DIY, now starts right up like it should. No more grinding.

    I got a Hustler Raptor that's keep blowing the fuse every time you turn the key to on position, I replaced the key switch but still blowing the fuse I checked the wire harness and is ok. Do you you have any ideas what could it be?

    • @JohnsonsSmallEngines
      @JohnsonsSmallEngines  4 месяца назад

      Impossible to figure out without seeing the machine and not knowing the model or having a wiring schematic to even give you a suggestion. Normally It will be a hot wire going to ground and that is what your looking for. I have seen fuse boxes and fuse connections at the fuse holder fail. Check the simple first, clean battery terminals and make sure the connections are tight at the battery. If you have loose connections, you may have intermittent arcing throwing voltage inconsistently but I do not see that often. I do come across head light wiring that frey and ground but I will assume your machine does not have any. You can also disconnect all of the wiring plugs, then start at the farthest plug in the wiring, leaving the ignition switch in the on position. When the fuse blows, it may get you closer to find where the issue is. If you do find out what happened, please let me know what is was.

      @@JohnsonsSmallEngines I have a Hustler Raptor model#938605 with a 23 hp Kawasaki engine . well I use an ohm meter to check the wires ,I notice that the starter solenoid wire going to the starter was showing voltage, so i figure bad solenoid, I removed the starter solenoid ,turned the switch on and did not blow the fuse. I left it alone for awhile and try again and it did blow the fuse with out the solenoid wires been hook up, one thing that puzzle me is I disconnect the negative terminal from the battery and put a meter lead on the negative post and the wire going to the starter and I have voltage this is crazy,
      the next day I hook the negative back up and try again and the fuse was ok , i try many time and di good, let it alone for a while try again and the fuse kept blowing again , it must be the ignition switch , this is the second switch I replaced , I'm thinking of cutting the ground wire from the ignition switch. right now and waiting for the starter solenoid to come and try again
      Thak you for your reply

    This is Hustler's poor quality control. I've had 2 new Hustlers with the sane issue. Both were almost brand new and had this problem. It shows their poor quality control in their assembly process.
