A. Nor tec could have not used Haulover inlet. B. Nor tec should have used more throttle, allowing the boat to do the work and keep the nose up, Cap needs more experience.
That Grady White shows what a true offshore boat looks and handles like. No drama, no showoff, just cruising through the waves as if they aren't even there.
He has his motors titled all the way up and that’s causing it to pourpose up and down. Tilt it all the way down and the nose will stick into the water.
Wavy... only because you asked. This was an outgoing tide with an on shore wind. Bad conditions for Haulover. Mr. Nor-Tech was probably turning 1700-2000 RPM. He should have added 750-1000 RPM to get the nose up. I would not have put the boat on a plane in the inlet because it was rough enough to pound the boat, but just below plane would have been perfect. Putting tabs down would have helped to get the bow up too, but at his speed, not by much. He could have trimmed his motors up, but I am not so sure that would work on his boat due to cavitation issues. Mr. Nor-Tech, like all of the other Capt you posted today, were too far to the center of the channel. There is no reason to be there, ever unless it's flat calm. He should have hugged the N. Jetty (its deep enough). Then, after clearing the inlet, had he turned N he would have cleared the outgoing tidal current and found smoother seas. He could have then proceeded South after going 1000 yrs into the ocean. Alternatively, he could have hugged the S Jetty as there appeared not to be a lot of anglers on the jetty point.
Great analysis, Sounds like you're someone who's run that channel a few times. Having just watched these videos, I'm amazed at the number of captains that run that channel in the worst spot. Who knows the guy might've just been new and had no idea how to approach it.
On every boat that I have ever owned tabs down raises the stern and pushes the bow down. As you mentioned, at his speed the tabs would have probably done little. He definitely needed to get the bow up, but also keep the speed down and def not on plane. I'd much rather be in a boat that takes a little water over the bow than one which is skipping so hard off the tops that my back and hull are at risk. That's what the scuppers are for. Throttle up to raise the nose and the water disappears. High speed is not always the answer. I have watched a lot of these vids and the haul ass crowd often takes a hell of a beating, both the crew and the boat. It seems to happen the most with guys who don't have the waterline to get away with it. And they are the ones who hurt people. Agree with the rest of what you wrote, especially staying out of the tallest waves.
I have no idea what most of this means but it proves to me that 1) I shouldn't drive a boat and 2) make sure whoever's driving the boat knows what they are doing!
This is probably the Nor-Tech captains first time out when it's this rough. He thought he was being safer by going slow. Since experience is the best teacher he'll have learned that's not the best way to tackle this kind of water. Everyone has to have their first time and most have the benefit of going out with a more experienced captain and seeing how it's done. Not all have that opportunity though. He'll do better next time. As far as redemption... he's already doing better.
This Nortech has been on these RUclips channels looking like an ass multiple times... Trying to shew away Jetskis and stuffing hard enough to have water come over the bow and break the console glass.....
3:30 Captain and shaved head first mate realize that their ladies are about to end up as a thumbnail for a Wavy Boats video, and smartly call them back to the rear. Better late than never! lol
Don't people realize how ridiculous they look leaving all of their bumper buoy's just hanging off the side of their boat after leaving the dock? 🙄 IDK maybe it's just me...lol? 🤷♂️😂
I'm a huge fan of the 57-68' Monterrey Convertible and Sportfisher . I was on a 57' working as a young man and it was AWESOME. Teak wood everywhere. Loved it.
First thing, let your hull do the work and increase speed to allow it to encounter the waves farther back on the keel. Second, trim the bow up! I’d always rather error on the side of being trimmed too high than too low.
That family in the small boat scared me. I hope she had a life jacket on the baby going into those big waves. Looked like the older kids were having fun in the bow though.
When you scan the horizon of the water on a windy day and dont see any sailboats, there's usually a reason for it. When it's too windy for most sailboaters to be on the water it's not a good day for motor boats.
Actually you'll usually see sailboats out when it's too rough for powerboats. They take rough conditions far better: sealed bow so they can take waves over the bow, heavy keel to keep her upright...
Been watching the channel for a while. Thanks from an inland waterway boater. (Ohio) 2:08-2:27 is some of the best footage you've shown yet. (Just kidding) Don't just ask questions about what went wrong; offer/show a solution. Seems like too much money and not enough skill for most. Anchor's A'weigh!
1:25: When you don't even bother to ship your fenders and secure your lines and companionways, you're already behind the game. Wonder he didn't lose that waverunner.
6:06 ok, the baby has a life jacket. But who’s going in after it ? Even just pottering around the lake when the kids were young, at least one adult had a life jacket on ready to go in.
I had the same thought. With a baby that young, both parents were foolish to attempt Haulover. Everyone would have had more fun and been safer splashing around on a nice calm sandbar.
Who would take a newborn out on water like that? That's absolutely crazy and probably criminal. The life vest was cute, but isn't going to save that baby if it goes in the drink. How utterly foolish!
Why don't they police this waterway, cite anyone carrying children not wearing life preservers. Don't they care about their children? I like all your videos. Thanks, Jerry
I think the guy was letting one of the kids drive on the way out......on the way back I think maybe the owner was driving. Thanks for the Vid! Greetings from Rochester NY.
In rallying there is a phrase, if in doubt, flat out! Seems to me that this applies to boats too, especially those with great big engines dangling off the back.
Having the money to buy a flash water toy does not a captain make. My skippers ticket cost me thousands that I had to work damn hard in some shitty weather catching shrimp n fish to afford it ✌UK
I’m especially impressed by the woman with an infant in her arms. What ? Dangerous conditions , no reason to leave the baby at home. Besides, baby sitters are expensive.
What could the Nor-Tech captain have done differently? 😳
Nor-tech heard the semi submersible was the way to go to avoid detection.....
Did it work?
not got out of bed
A. Nor tec could have not used Haulover inlet.
B. Nor tec should have used more throttle, allowing the boat to do the work and keep the nose up, Cap needs more experience.
He could actually throttled up a little and keep the bow up and plowed through the ways. Sometimes going to slow is as rough a ride as going to fast.
Bought a bigger boat.
That Grady White shows what a true offshore boat looks and handles like. No drama, no showoff, just cruising through the waves as if they aren't even there.
What's the big difference in an offshore boat? They all look the same.
@@120Livi Shape of the Hull?
and the benetau or whatever it is called
Carolina bow with Carolina flare. Developed and proven off the Outer Banks. Deep Vee. Plenty of freeboard. Right power and helmsmanship.
It was truly a thing of beauty. I haven’t seen another boat just breeze through them like a Grady…
What could the captain have done differently? He could grow a pair and put the quad 450Rs to work!😮
Makes me sick to see a boat with all that power and not at least give it a go!
I just saw him coming back...much better!
I’ve never owned a boat, but I’m guessing using the trim tabs to keep the bow up? 🤷🏻♂️
He has his motors titled all the way up and that’s causing it to pourpose up and down. Tilt it all the way down and the nose will stick into the water.
It seems that the boats that go faster have a better time.
trim up, power up!!!
Boat:
Captain: Better idle it through here.
I don't know how I got to this stuff but now I'm hooked
Welcome to the fun MrC!
Some of these "captains" need to hire Blue Top Legend (who I believe is like 16) to get them through the inlet. Maybe she could start a side hustle.

That is the prettiest Grady I have ever seen
The captain of the Nortech did a fine job of stress testing the hull.
Did a good job of testing the efficiency of the bilges too. 😂
They need pointers from the blue top legend
This is another clip that would make a great commercial for the boat maker: "No matter how hard you try, you simply can not sink our boats!"
This is probably the Nor-Tech captains first time out when it's this rough. He thought he was being safer by going slow. @@wonkafansonly2005 I thought everyone was supposed to be a perfect captain as soon as they hit the water.
Boat #2, gotta love those classy flying fenders!!
LMAO i thought the same thing!
Reminds me of Prez Joe B. All that power at his disposal, and clueless how to use it.
3:30 Captain and shaved head first mate realize that their ladies are about to end up as a thumbnail for a Wavy Boats video, and smartly call them back to the rear. Better late than never! lol
I was gonna say the same thing - he clearly said “Hey! Outta the f-ing bow!”
Watching the motors bounce around in slow mo is amazing
“Deck options include convenient raw water wash down, controllable from the captains helm.”
3:37 great call

Nice to see a Grady White, classic style and lines
Nor-Tech loves people with more money than brains.
What could the Nor-Tech captain do differently? Add another 450 to the transom, maybe?
🤣😂🤣🤣
Probably a couple more since he only uses idle power
Not driving it like a 90 year old taking his pristine 57 Chevy to the corner for chips would be a start.
I was gonna say, or just use the power that’s RIGHT THERE, bruh
Could of trimmed the four up with a hair more power would of done right.
He could have contacted the Blue Top Legend. Those girls would have shown him how to do it.

2:18 is my favorite boat.
Dual Yamaha.
Captain did good . Got the girls off the bow and taking care of them .
I love that this channel shoots in 4k. If only it was ultra widescreen too!
That Grady White sure is a sharp boat..always been one of my favorite designs.
Absolutely. Timeless.
Why do people take their babies out on the water? Extremely dangerous very hot and has to distract from having a good time. Makes no sense to me.
I've noticed people selfishly drag infants and toddlers everywhere now.
sport fisherman like a Viking are my favorite
That Midnight Express had some quality dynamic ballast on board!
The bimbos?
I can't even afford to wax those boats.
Really liked that Grady White

I love watching these boats pass thru Haulover... but I think the ladies at 2:13 deserve more airtime. ;-)
midnight express has been dropping some real nice boats they even have the right seats to be thrown through the inlet in comfort
That boat with the yellow boobs. Is a beast!! Killer
That sea pro did it perfect
Exactly what you want to do in that boat in that whether

In the books!
@@WavyBoats Nobody stuffs it better

Baby, you're the best.
With the short steep chop typical of Haulover going too slow makes the boat “hobby horse” and ship tons of water over the bow.
Always amazed at how many people can afford an expensive boat, yet still not know how to get it on plane🤔
Poseidon must have shaken his trident at the "captain", saying "Thou shalt not abuse a Nor-Tech like that!!!"
Blue top legend

Agree. The mother should have had a vest on with the baby tethered to her. Idiots in real live. Can't make this stuff up.
Grady White be like... waves, what waves.
That Grady White is the machine. Good to see all the bikinis head to the back of the boat though - saved them getting wet
It appears that this captain has more experience on a submarine.
lol thanks for that mate
i kept seeing the drone follow boats, whos flying it and wheres that video? thatd be a cool angle to watch
Whatever the captain did or didn't do, he gave zero fox, continued on his trajectory, made no changes.

Except for the fact that he's legally responsible for the conduct of the whole trip, boat, and crew, just like a licensed captain.
