The weight of the tiers stretched your fabric a lot, making it not align when you tried to sew the back together. Your tip to use a heavier lining fabric was spot-on. You could possibly achieve a more muted look by dying the completed skirt in a diluted brown dye bath. Or you could make your skirt from vintage/heavily used fabric. I have some faded bedsheets that are quite muted.........
i like this version better, it's very fun, i like the contrast between the patterns and colors that meanwhile still keep the vintage vibe, it feels more like a patchwork style which i really like, i only prefer the way the gucci skirt's layers lay down, but that could be achieved by using lighter fabric

@@styledbygabi I would think with vintage looking floral prints like...tea roses and the color and florals you see on old school bed sheet sets to be similar since there is a common theme you know how some bedsheets have stripes and florals and smaller print that are similar but still somewhat different. I think that would work great for this. Same color scheme and similar florals but different enough for each tier. I think the bottom works well with the top but that's because the tones are similar. I don't know if I would wear them separately. I def am going to try this pattern out but I think I'll be more patient and wait to come across the right fabric.

Because ain't NO WAY that skirt should have cost the price of a Craigslist "OBO Car"!!!!! You gotta be kidding! Gucci know they got that material from Walmart ..stop playin! ALSO GREAT JOB APRIL, I LOVE YOUR VERSION!!!
A different way of doing this would've been to use one of the fabrics as the main fabric, which would take the place of the white fabric, then stitch all the other fabrics on top of that main fabric. I've work this type of skirt as a child in the '70s. Back then it was called a sister skirt and depending on how many tiers you had, the name of the skirt was created; eg 3 tier skirt would be called a "3 sister skirt." Still your version looks more time consuming, it is still cute. Thank you for sharing this with us!!
I applaud you for trying to replicate the Gucci skirt. In studying the picture of the Gucci skirt, each tier looks like it was cut out from a full circle, not a quarter circle (very large workspace required) then gathered. This creates softer fluting on the gathers. The fabric choice appears to be something like lawn but I would have to see it up close to tell, but at any rate, you have a very unique skirt.
I think this has to be one of my favorite creations you’ve done!! And I feel like it came out better than Gucci’s, especially bc of the price difference :) I wish I had your talent!
Love the skirt, much better than I thought it could’ve possibly looked....but the second layer bothers me 😂 (I know it’s there because it’s a replica from the Gucci one but still)
Thanks to your channel I learned how to sew my own clothing and got creative. I wore my own gown to a ball a couple of weeks ago. Thanks so much for sharing with us. :)
The hours you spent looking for the fabric was worth it! You made a wonderful skirt that looks better than the Gucci skirt! Great job!!! And congratulations on taking on that challenge! Thank you for sharing the lessons you learned while making this skirt!
Very cute. This is a throw back to the 1970's. I made a skirt like that when I was a teenager. I remember trying to find prints that would look good together.
You did such a great job with not only recreating the skirt but also the color story. So inspirational to see all of the steps you took to assemble this. And thank you for sharing your mistakes and what you would do differently next time!
April next time you need to do a really long gather like this zig zag over yarn it makes it a whole lot less stressful ! Your skirt is beautiful to btw 💜💙💚
I'm so impressed with my version. Note: this is my first time making an apparel. I did make a few mistakes. Nothing I couldnt hide or fix. Gorgeous, and just my style!
It's super easy; make sure the selvage of the fabric faces you and cut about couple inches into the fabric and then just tear the rest. This method works only for cotton and for other fabrics you tug the sides around the cut a bit and then pull the thread in the fabric to make a clean cutting line in the fabric. My friend told me that years ago and she learned it from someone who works in fabric shop. Just make sure the selvage of the fabric faces you, it won't work if it doesn't face you.
Anna Joy it also works better with natural fiber fabrics like cotton and muslins, synthetic fabrics won’t tear as cleanly (I’ve made that mistake before!)
@@Betsyschugar I've never tried it with muslin, but that's a good point. It'd already been mentioned to use cotton for best results, so I was just adding to the answer.
This is actually so cute. Just looking at the fabric(esp the thumbnail) I wasn’t so sure but the way u styled it was omg, spot on! super cute and elegant!!
@@honeymelon_b if it were a cute previous eras clothes it's ok, but this looks like you found your Granny's stash of bedruffles and wrapped all of them around you, and if you like it, you have bad taste, just because Gucci says it's ok, doesn't make it ok

I love it!!! My mother was a seamstress on the side. She always made my special event dresses. This skirt reminds me of a dress I had one year when I was 9 or 10 ish. It was only two fabric patterns but I chose a yellow and a purple that coordinated. It had rouching(sp) across the bodice, little puff/capped sleeves and 3 ruffle layers! Was super cute! I thought so anyway. My sister, in her mean teen phase at the time, did not lol!
This reminds me of the pioneer dress and bonnet my mom made me for the big Bicentennial parade July 4, 1976. I wore the snot out of it because it was so soft and cozy like an old handmade quilt or something. Now I want to test my skills and try to make this beautiful skirt!
so pretty! I really love your fabric selection. Even though it is relatively easy to make, I don't think I would want to invest the insane time to do the hemming! Kudos to you, April!
I think the Gucci skirt is comprised of a floor length rectangle underskirt and all the layers are stitched onto it with the top tier is gathered with the waist of the underskirt then inserting the waistband for a cleaner look and the ruffles are all aligned since its all straight lines. Im working on a layered ruffle skirt to go with an 1860s blouse and it seems to work just the same way. Good job on your skirt! It looks incredible
Wow this was one of my favorites. I can't even begin to tell you how many of these I've made. There was a special presser foot that gathered the fabric as you sew and I remembered just adding each tier at the base of the other so I ended up with a wider skirt.
April be sure to remind everyone to preshrink by washing any cotton and natural fabrics. Beautiful and a lot of work so you would not want it to be too small after washing it!

I love how your videos got more and more advanced (like the lightning, audio and filming) during your time on RUclips!
Love the skirt, much better than I thought it could’ve possibly looked....but the second layer bothers me 😂
(I know it’s there because it’s a replica from the Gucci one but still)
This turned out really cute and you look adorable in it. Great interpretation of the Gucci skirt.
Turned out beautiful...but with your figure, everything looks beautiful :P
I JUMPED to the comments when you ripped the fabric for the tiers bc GWORL-how ?!? That was so cool 😩
I think your version is prettier. I would love to see a version of this done in all white lace.
Becki C ooh, yes! Different laces in various shades of white and/or ivory could be beautiful!
Yah white layers to deep cream on the bottom ..I'm doing one right now with old clothes its really fun since I have nothing else to do lol
Very cute. This is a throw back to the 1970's. I made a skirt like that when I was a teenager. I remember trying to find prints that would look good together.
That's an idea for some old bedsheets and curtains hiding in my closet.
You did such a great job with not only recreating the skirt but also the color story. So inspirational to see all of the steps you took to assemble this. And thank you for sharing your mistakes and what you would do differently next time!
$4500?!?! 😂😂😂😂😂
Where they drunk when putting the price tag?
I know Gucci is known as "fashion" but honestly, your skirt is SO BEAUTIFUL!!!! So much better!!!!!
April next time you need to do a really long gather like this zig zag over yarn it makes it a whole lot less stressful ! Your skirt is beautiful to btw 💜💙💚
Oh, great tip!
I'm so impressed with my version. Note: this is my first time making an apparel. I did make a few mistakes. Nothing I couldnt hide or fix. Gorgeous, and just my style!
Woah woah woah
Hol' up a bit!
Just teach me the technique at 2:04... The way you tear it straight down
😯
It's super easy; make sure the selvage of the fabric faces you and cut about couple inches into the fabric and then just tear the rest. This method works only for cotton and for other fabrics you tug the sides around the cut a bit and then pull the thread in the fabric to make a clean cutting line in the fabric. My friend told me that years ago and she learned it from someone who works in fabric shop. Just make sure the selvage of the fabric faces you, it won't work if it doesn't face you.
Did a double take at that too! What!!?
It's important that it's a weave fabric, not a knit.
As usual, you did a great job. However, Dear Gucci...the 80's called and they want their peasant skirt back.
I love it! I might make one for myself. I remember having one as a little girl, and I loved it then too.
Try 60's
Previous eras are coming back in style. 2020 called and said you’re behind on the times 🙄
@@honeymelon_b if it were a cute previous eras clothes it's ok, but this looks like you found your Granny's stash of bedruffles and wrapped all of them around you, and if you like it, you have bad taste, just because Gucci says it's ok, doesn't make it ok
emily mulcahy that’s literally your opinion. All OP had to say was “nice job!” Instead of following it with something backhanded. Lots of people in the comments think it’s cute including myself and April . If you don’t, that’s fine, but there’s no reason to follow up a compliment with something childish and negative.
This literally looks better than the Gucci skirt. Your tiers are much more clean and even and the length is way better! Amazing job!
This reminds me of the pioneer dress and bonnet my mom made me for the big Bicentennial parade July 4, 1976. I wore the snot out of it because it was so soft and cozy like an old handmade quilt or something. Now I want to test my skills and try to make this beautiful skirt!
That’s really cute! You did an awesome job!
A couple of us were saying that the skirt looks real nice. But it gives the illusion that you are floating. You have a nice weekend.
Your look is spot on. I love designer looks without the pricetag. Thanks for the tutorial!
I love this minoan inspired skirt, the colors and fabric are really pretty too
so pretty! I really love your fabric selection. Even though it is relatively easy to make, I don't think I would want to invest the insane time to do the hemming! Kudos to you, April!
Man I'm really impressed.. it's beautiful. I used to have this exact skirt in red and white as a kid . I loved it very much
RUclips just suggest this. I'm freaking SHOOK. This is AMAZING TALENTED girl.
I’m happy peasant skirts are back in style! I’ve been saving mine for years!
Love that you share challenges in your creations! Keep up the awesome sewing!!!
It looks exactly the same!!! Beautiful! And I appreciate your disclosure on the price of the fabrics. Definitely worth the 5 hours of searching.
I truly hope you wore that out and rocked it because you really did an amazing job.
It looks incredible
usually im not that much of a fan of floral prints or ruffles but i LOVE this skirt!!
Extremely gorgeous skirt, I just love it, but all the work!! Oh my, You are so brave and patient and ambitious...great job!
Wow could you imagine up cycling this pattern from old bedsheets or something? The possibilities are endless! ❤️
Also, adding a top and making it a dress 🥰
LOVE LOVE LOVE this look! It’s so wholesome! 😍
Homemade clothes r better then company made cloths.
That skirt is really cute.😍😍😍
this is so awesome!!!
you're so inspiring!!
In a honesty, yours looks so much better than the original brand one!
I honestly think your version turned out so much better than the original!! I love the pop of colors and the ruffles are 😍
I’m not a sewer, but I enjoy your videos! They are interesting and relaxing to watch. And I love that I feel like 4,500.00 was saved. 🤩🤩
$4500 WHAT!!!!? That's insane. Unless the Gucci was made by singing cartoon mice, yours is far superior!
Your version looks just as good as the original. Thanks for amazing videos!
I love that skirt!!!!! I'd wear it!!! You did a fantastic job, as usual!!! You never cease to amaze me!!! You are so so so talented!!! 😘💕💗
If only fabric stores were open right now, I would def attempt to make this, it's so beautiful!!
You should be super proud of this skirt. Really beautiful!
How i like how she effortlessly cut these fabrics even without using a scissor.
I love the shape of the skirt and the colours you chose are just right. 😍
Thank you, April! You are such a talented person!...Beautiful skirt you made!...I think yours is more beautiful!!
Hi April🤗 just a little tip from someone who is taking education in sewing;) sew the zipper longer down and use a hemp on top to give it a professional finish😁 other than that the skirt looks very nice! Love you channel! Keep up your good work😍
