hi mates! thanks for being here! sorry I haven't replied to comments in AGES!!! sending you all LOTS of love. keep me in the loop with your projects if you please - I love hearing about them!
I was so hoping you would put in a non-elasticated waistband and you did! Yay! I think the weight of the skirt would have been too much for the elastic to handle, both visually and in practicality. The drape of the skirt came out beautifully! These days, I'm making scalloped curtains in a small peachy pink floral cotton for my home office.
Carly, my dad has a fabric stall at a market (I know, lucky me, I’ve never had to pay for fabric in my life) and he’s taught me the easiest way to tell if your fabric is cotton or polyester: pull one threat out from a frayed edge. Then pull it apart to try and break it. If it breaks easily, it’s cotton, if it’s hard to break (hard as in, for example, when you try and break sewing thread), then it’s polyester. Natural fibres are easy to break. Which is why sewing thread is usually polyester.
i don't think sewists give themselves enough credit for how good they are at maths, the 3d visualisation skills alone are off the charts. anyway your explanations made perfect sense!
this skirt is A DREAM!!! as a plus-sized lady I don't feel comfortable wearing something that has so much puff but dang! just looking at it on yours is such a joy! 🪄
the way it twiiiirls!! I've been wanting to make a bubble skirt for a minute now but couldn't figure out how the bubble was made, so this video was perfect. I'm currently working on a button up shirt for my partner
Just an idea for gathering: I found the two-thread method really slow, so for a few years now, every time I need to gather something (skirts, dresses, even gathers on sleeves), I use the shirring method. It's much better because the fabric is already gathered right when you take it out of the machine, and the elastic thread allows you to adjust the gathers to fit the size you want. For example, when gathering a skirt, I secure it in 4 points and then pull the elastic thread to fit the rest. Love your channel!
working on a cobalt blue wrap dress in this lovely linen fabric - its the hubba ding poppy dress and its the second time im making the pattern and im making it alot more slowly and methodically - finishing my edges nicer and bias binding some edges with matching floral fabric - so happy with it so far!
i'm currently working on: - quilt for one of my close friends (with tony tony chopper (from one piece), pikachu, and kirby prints - because those are some of his favorite characters) - a weighted crochet blanket for myself with pastel yarn and beads - and a light weight knitted blanket for summer for myself !! i'm also waiting to go thrifting for some scrap fabric to make myself multiple tiered patchwork skirts !! they're so easy and comfortable, especially as things get warmer here in the US ! and ! they all continue to go really well :) thank you as always for the inspiration to keep pursuing a craft!! watching your projects really helps me gain confidence and inspiration for my own projects!!
the baby version of the skirt is so cuuuute! I’m currently having fun fitting and/or altering my existing pieces and finding ways to make my wardrobe work better for me!
My current project is a linen jumpsuit i made about two years ago and for some reason never wear. I already cut the top part off and gave it a nice waistband. Now all i need to do ist puzzle the few left pieces together to create to front pockets. I already love is so much more this way and wor it more often in 1 week than i did in the last two years. Yay! It's a win 💪😁
I am working on self drafted tunics made from vintage tablecloths. The very first one I made sold in a day in my etsy store! So of course I have to make a few more. I am a plus size lady of a certain age so I specialize in one of a kind pieces flattering to myself and many other queen size ladies who like to be unique.
That's truly a MAGICAL skirt!! You look amazing! Also, I love your personality and style, so fun, sweet and just all around positive vibes🥰 All the love from Ireland!
I just finished making some cargo sweats with a beautiful burgundy floral techno scuba fabric. They are perfect and comfy and just, adorable! I love bubble skirts so much and this is soo so fun and cute
This turned out so well! And I am very happy you did the zipper waistband, it was definitely the right call. My only tip for the future is that I always like to hang my circle skirts for as long as possible after cutting them before finishing or hemming them in case they stretch on the bias making them wonky. I have let skirts hang for up to two weeks before coming back to them (which I get is not very realistic for making content).
This skirt is such a dream! I’m surprised you didn’t add some cheeky pockets 😊 Also next time you understitch you should try sewing from the right side of the fabric and sew a couple millimeters next to the seam line to give a clean finish on the outside.
Carly hii. In Katrina's (katrina Ivanona) video about circle skirts, she talks about hemming in an easy way that produces a clean, unworpy hem. I recommend watching it because she is very informative (like you), delves into the history of circle skirts. From what i gathered, you fold the hem once and stitch using a longer stitch length (like you do whilst gathering) then you pull at the thread to gather a little bit. Then you fold the hem again and stitch in the opposite direction from where you stitched the first time, and basically undoing the gathering a little bit at a time until hem i done. She explains it so much better in the video, but it worked for me. Thank you for always being so generous and giving with what you learn and discover with us❤️
Carly, I'm so happy to find your channel! Finally, I found someone with the same light, whimsical fairytale-ish vibes in making clothes 😍😍 I wanted this type of the skirt for quite a long time, now I finally want to make it🌸🌸 thank you❤
I recently discovered your channel and I'm already hooked! 💖 Your vibe is simply enchanting-cozy, wholesome, and truly wonderful. Your content fills my days with warmth and positivity, creating a perfect escape from the everyday hustle. This is exactly what I need in my life! 🌟 Keep doing what you're doing; your amazing energy is a gift to all of us. I can't wait to see what you share next! ✨
Currently making a cotton tricot dress with pleats and a lining. First time stretch fabric for me. 2 weeks ago finished my double circel skirt. No bubble bere😁. Dark blue and a zipper. Thanx for your happy video.
Wow, it looks so nice and twirly! I think the bottom looks really magical. My current project is embroidered tights for a cosplay. I've basted all the embroidery onto my tights and now I need to cover up the edges with sequins. It's going to take FOREVER but they're going to be wonderful and sparkly when I'm done.
Beautiful skirt! I love watching your videos since discovering them. You are so creative and positive! Currently I’m in the middle of crocheting a cardigan, hand sewing/quilting a fanny pack, fabric folding Christmas baubles and hacking the McCall 7969 into a top. Just bought fabric for a baby quilt for a friend. Must try harder not to have lots of projects on the go.
Hello Carly! You're very crafty and intelligent. I've just stumbled upon your channel when doing research on making a skirt (novice to sewing). Your look reminded me of Mia from the movie "The Princess Diaries". I love it!
Hi Carly! I discovered your channel a few weeks ago and I love that you make adorable things out of secondhand fabric. 🥰 I’m currently creating my version of your “fairy skirt” from a few months’ back. It’s very bright and happy!! I think I’m going to also make a toddler dress version of it for my 2-year-old who loves twirling. ❤️
i just found your channel and wow! what a great video! you explained everything perfectly and your skirt came out so cute!! i'm trying something similar but as a dress and you really cleared up some of my questions before i start. thanks so much!
Just found your channel as I’ve been really putting in the time to sew. You’re super cute!! I feel like I’m watching a mad scientist :3 This is a great video, I certainly intend to come back to it and try this skirt out myself once I’ve got my new machine figured out ^^
I just finished up making replacements for my polyester sweatpants, and when I went to wash them, one of them leaked dye onto the rest of them! Including the drawstrings, so I had to tediously remove as much leaked dye as I could, AND I had to just straight up dye the drawstrings. They're black now. Every pair gets black drawstring now. Ah well
Wow your skirt is gorgeous! I saw the price of the skirt you fell in love with on that website, and you made one for a fraction of the price, that fits you perfectly, length and all. Enjoy it!
Amazing skirt - not surprised it was so expensive. Wow you got really lucky at the OpShop! I was still working out how to do it by the end of the video!!🤣 I am working on patchwork collars (courtesy of your videos) 😊
Just stumbled across this video - amazing! Totally followed the maths, and you didn't even use pi 😀 I'm now scrolling a super cheap fabric website and found a whole 40m bolt of net for £35. Do you think net for the outer and then a similar colour in cotton for the lining would work? I might just try that! Or maybe make a mini one for my 5yr old before committing. SO EXCITING! Would love to see the detail of the waistband if you have pictures?
The miniature toile skirt looks like ballgown skirts I made for my Barbie when I was little :) So cute! I am working on a bucket hat made from denim scraps. I got the pattern from Burda Moden magazine and I hope it will fit.
I’ve just finished a drawing that I’ll get prints made of to sell at a few markets (like Brisbane Illustration fair), and I’m trying to finish up a pink and orange gingham Donny top by Friday pattern company, hacked to have ties 🙂
Hello, the skirt looked fantastic on you! Could you make a video recommending a non-industrial sewing machine to make all these projects? Thank you so much 😭🎀
I absolutely love this skirt. Do you think a cotton lawn or linen would have the right weight to keep the shape/drape without straining the waistband as much? Can't sew right now because I broke my toe and can't operate the pedal, but maybe when it's healed I should try this?!?!?!
Thank you so much mate!! The shirt - a thrifted mens button down & I have created shape by adding some pleats secured with safety pins! A bit silly but fun.
I just finished woking on PJ pants for hubby and me with some of the mass amounts of thrifted fabric I have! I made my own pattern starting from an old kiwk sew pattern, also thrifted, and completely changed the shape to match hubby fave pair and added cuffs and changed the pockets. So I guess they're not really anything like the original pattern anymore lol
If you are using the same pattern for both then your waistline for one will be off. Either the inside will be too big for your waist measurement, or the outside will be too small for your waist measurement... inless you make the inside fit then you can gather the outside skirt down... that could be your plan... ok! That WAS you plan! Sorry, circle skirt math brain panic. ^w^
Where in the world did you buy fabric for $1 a meter? I live in china and even fabric directly from the factory is about twice as expensive as that. Granted I only buy good quality cotton.
I’m making 120 crocheted froggies for Christmas shoeboxes for children in third world countries. They represent F. R. O. G. fully rely on God. Most children never receive a single toy in their lives and my church is a small part of the Christmas shoeboxes program. I’ve finished 27 froggies thus far. I try to crochet at least one a day and hope to finish by Thanksgiving here in Texas. I’ve got several other projects in the works. Up cycling a dress that is too narrow I got from thrifting. Adding side panels so it will fit.

Great tip - thanks :)
cotton polly fabrics can be hard for that with some threads are cotton som poly
I can confirm... my crochet cotton breaks far easier as tick as it is than my thread for the machine.
Its easier to check the fabric composition by burning a tread. If it smells like burnt hair or paper its natural, if it smells terrible its synthetic

genius! thanks for sharing this!
You are very smart. Some congressmen would still be arguing about it by the time you finish your project!

Carly you don’t give yourself enough credit sweetheart ❤ that was a PERFECT explanation of the math for what you did!! Great job!! 🎉❤
i'm currently working on:
- quilt for one of my close friends (with tony tony chopper (from one piece), pikachu, and kirby prints - because those are some of his favorite characters)
- a weighted crochet blanket for myself with pastel yarn and beads
- and a light weight knitted blanket for summer for myself !!
i'm also waiting to go thrifting for some scrap fabric to make myself multiple tiered patchwork skirts !! they're so easy and comfortable, especially as things get warmer here in the US ! and ! they all continue to go really well :)
thank you as always for the inspiration to keep pursuing a craft!! watching your projects really helps me gain confidence and inspiration for my own projects!!
the baby version of the skirt is so cuuuute! I’m currently having fun fitting and/or altering my existing pieces and finding ways to make my wardrobe work better for me!
I think you made the right call to do a fitted waistband and zip. Gorgeous work
20:00 like a tulip fairy 🧚♀️
Total score with the fabric. Looks amazing!

I’m working on a bay window seat cushion and having so much fine lining up my pattern and making it just PERFECT! I can wait for it to be done 😍
I just finished making some cargo sweats with a beautiful burgundy floral techno scuba fabric. They are perfect and comfy and just, adorable!
I love bubble skirts so much and this is soo so fun and cute
That’s awesomeness! Your explanation made sense to me! It’s super cute! It looks like a blooming flower! Great fabric find, it’s perfect! 💕⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Wowww 🤩 I love how ballgown-y it is, even without a hoop skirt underneath! So beautiful 💕
Wow, this might be the prettiest skirt I've ever seen! Love the design!
This is STUNNING! It reminds me of the skirt Carrie Bradshaw wears to the sook in the second satc film!
I LOVE THAT

Hello ! Just wanted to say your work is amazing !
I, personnaly, am making a selkie-like dress for a birthday party in june.
Great job.
Thank you!!
Love how the bubble skirt came out I really didn’t understand. Do you have written instructions?
I don't at this stage sorry!
Absolutely Beautiful 🤩

Just found you today and i just subscribed, started sewing recently, you seem cool

Thank you so much mate!! The shirt - a thrifted mens button down & I have created shape by adding some pleats secured with safety pins! A bit silly but fun.

From beginner to advanced where would you rank this skirt? Love ur vids🥺💗
Looks like fun to make and wear, is it very heavy?
hii I loved it, I really need to know approximately how many meters of fabric are spent on this skirtt🙏
I've never done this before but -- first -- LOL
Can't wait to watch the video :))
hahaha i love it !!! thank you for being here
@@fromcarlyb :)))))
Did you let both the double circle and single circle skirt hang before hemming them together or did you just go for it? Thanks!
I have 9 projects I have to complete before the last Saturday of June. They are in various stages of done, but I feel SO SLOW.
I love your skirt
Soooooooo awesome
Thank you!!
excuse my stupid question, but: how do you iron it? im thinking about making it for myself for a wedding :-) thanks!
Plz someone explain me the calculations.
You are so cute and love all your videos ❤
Aw thank you!!
My project really reminded me of why I never make things with buttons/buttonholes today😢
Math has never made more sense 😂
hahahaha love it

Love this so much. You didn’t really show the finished waistband.
Ramasse tes cheveaux ( شعشبونا ) 👍🌞🐝
Is there a sweet little doll that benefits from all the tiny proto types? Please say it is so 😉
there should be !!!!!!
Where in the world did you buy fabric for $1 a meter? I live in china and even fabric directly from the factory is about twice as expensive as that. Granted I only buy good quality cotton.
it was a wild wild sale - a closing down of a local fabric store!!! i doubt i'll see something like that again for a LONG TIME !!

You explained the mathematics very well. Not gibberish at all.
