    The big thing about this for me is that it allows me to have an external power source plugged in while still using the wireless mic. I suppose you could use some sort of USB C splitter to have a receiver and power connected but that would be very awkward. I haven't got the cam yet so maybe you could have external power plugged in anyway. Now all we need is to be able to link two mics and I'm sure that'll come soon. Before that, I wonder if you could plug a 3.5mm splitter into the mic input on the wireless mic and plug two wired mics into the splitter?

    This is awesome news. I wonder, do the mic automatically connect when you turn them both on or do you have to make sure it's connected every time you turn the camera on? I'm just asking because I use the quick record-setting, where the camera turns off in between clips to save battery throughout the day.

    • @PatchedBandit

      If the mic is ON.. the quick capture seems to be working ok. Camera connects to the mic automatically after quick capture is activated. Mic needs to be in range and turned on.

    I have a question: As a Motorcycle rider I'm thinking about getting the Action 4 and a wireless mic since it's working software-wise, can you confirm that I can just buy the mic without the case nor the receiver? the price goes down from case 250€, tx+rx 160€ to 100€ for just the dji mic.
    Also do you think it's better to wait for the the DJI Mic 2 or just go for the V1?

    • @PatchedBandit
      @PatchedBandit  Год назад

      Mic2 is not sold at the moment as it only comes with the pocket 3.

    • @PatchedBandit

      Mine is pretty quick to connect but it takes a bit of time. I would check the newest firmware for both. The actioncam you can ofcourse update with the DJI app and phone BUT the DJI Mic 2 needs to be updated manually. Meaning you need to transfer the update file to the mic's memory like it was a usb stick.

      It doesn't as of now at least. I believe the newest firmware for the OA3 is (v01.03.10.30) and there is no mention of this in the release notes.
      I juts tried to see if my OA3 would download a newer upgrade and there is nothing pushed to the app and the device right now does not have this option enabled.

      I've done all my videos in this channel with wireless mics. DJI wireless mic 1 and most rescent ones with Rode Wireless Pro.
      I get the appeal of wired lav mics for ease of use and failproof system BUT: OA4 is still not waterproof with the wired adapters and there is no way of recording 2 channels to the same video track.
      There are many solutions available and you are correct the most failproof, easy and cheap solution is the DJI Mic adapter for 3.5mm microphones. This is what I would recommend anyone starting to make motovlogs too :)

      @@PatchedBandit When you check 32bit float option in menu it saves 32bit float into camera also (pocket3). I think I've seen it in your video in Action4 menu too.

    • @PatchedBandit
      @PatchedBandit  Год назад

      I tested this today and I'm 99% sure the 32bit is only saved in the mics internal memory. The two audio tracks I compared from the video and internal memory are in fact different. The float internal recording doesn't peak and the camera recorded track gets crackly slightly easier even though it performs really well.
      I suspect DJI has some auto leveling inside the mic but it's not 32BIT in the video file.
      What is extra super nice is that the camera can start and stop the mic's internal recordings with the start and stop of video recording from the camera. So you end up with same amount of files (in theory). The audio sync between the files is not 100% perfect but it's easy to align in editing.

    Well, the fact that the action 3 and 4 is still having huge issues with stabilisation and shutter speed, it still does not come close to the other competitors on the market. The micro jitter and way DJI has solved this is just absolutely rubbish in an action cam. But this update is a huge step in the right direction. I know gopro can connect your AirPods etc, so I would imagine this is something we will see in every action cam next year.

      @@PatchedBandit it's probably a bigger deal for average users than you think. An average user often shoot in various lighting conditions from indoors to fading light on auto mode. Pro users know how to make a lesser sensor like in the OA3 perform better but the OA4 will do it automatically without the user knowing anything.
      There is a difference between not caring about the improved video quality to not needing it. Normal users probably don't care if a shot didn't look good in low light but the improvement in the OA4 is substantial for everyone.

    • @PatchedBandit
      @PatchedBandit  Год назад

      But I didnt like the settings oa4 chose automatically in low light. In my use case lowering shutter speed more than oa3 is not beneficial. Also noise reduction at default levels was crazy bad even compared to oa3.
      I agree and slightly dont at the same time. I was not sold on the sensor and still stand by that after using both on multiple occations.
      If we talk about the 'regular joe' using the camera he is not even going to touch the noise reduction settings in most cases. Also people shooting manual that might benefit on the dynamic range are advanced users.
      Of course it is a matter of taste also. Some people will prefer the "moother" more beautified look on low light of the OA4 but in my use case I prefer less blurry every time.
      What comes for my use case some videos I can control everything and some are ride videos that take 8 hours to film. I don't have time to set up shots or control the camera settings bit by bit on those occations so I tend to just trust the camera defaults with most settings.
