      Yeah that's something we've been thinking about. Whether there's a tannoy/intercom/loudspeaker on this Bridge because people won't be able to hear the captain otherwise. Or perhaps even headsets for all Bridge crew.

      @@MessyDeskInteractive One scifi move could be to have the bridge systems subtly amplify the captain's voice to everyone on the bridge without it being an overt intercom... which then gets you an opening for Orvillian comedy moments where everybody hears an embarrassing comment that was supposed to be for one person because the captain left it on the default setting.

      For me as an architect and designer, this is a no-no. It's just too big to be practical. Roomy can be fine, but this is larger than a ballroom. Even on a large cruiser it would make sense to only have the main stations on the bridge, and labs and research consoles and such located near the bridge, but not on it. Also the position of the captain and exo are maybe too central, and too far from the window/viewscreen. Sitting down, they would have a very restricted view to outside.
      In my humble opinion this is absolutely way to big. Look at bridges of modern battleships, air craft carriers, or even cruise ships. They're made as big as needed, but also as small as efficiency and convenience require. A Captain/crew needs to be able to maintain overview, see every station, and reach every station within seconds if need be. This is impossible in this ballroom. It's just too big to be practical.
      This room could work as a very roomy research lab though.
      What could work is dividing the space functionally, but not visually, by making two zones in the space. One zone/area in the front near the screen/ window with all command and control functions (similar to the Orville but only slightly bigger) and then a second zone in the back with all the research stations, meeting table, cartography and such. Two zones, one for essential command functions, and one for secondary exploratory and research functions... And this could be done without visually and structurally separating the space in two. Maybe a height difference can accent the two areas, positioning of consoles, and so on...

      Thanks! There's actually a bunch of changes we want to make to the design, and that's one of them. We'll be lowering the central platform that goes between the 2 sides of the lower pit down to be level with the rest of the main bridge, and then adding steps down in the pit to you allow you to walk underneath it.
      We thought we'd put a video out of this first version of the concept, but there will definitely be some changes before we're completely happy with it.

    • @ge2719
      @ge2719 4 года назад +1

      yeah, the bridge going up is pointless, it just goes back down, if the idea is for people to be able to walk under it in the sunken then make the bridge just be a path down into the sunken section and then back up to what is presumable navigation. it looks too low to walk under it any way so its extra pointless.
      though the rest looks great.

    • @TheGlassGods
      @TheGlassGods 4 года назад +2

      @@ge2719 the space underneath the walkway, in the pit is 2 meters tall, so it's enough for most people to walk under, but we do plan to lower the bridge like you've said, and just add steps down within the pit.

    It's pretty great but I have one major gripe about it.
    It's large, and it makes sense. It's a larger ship and it might act as a Command Cruiser, therefore the bridge might also be a CIC.
    The captain and the First officer still sit in the center, but have no way to turn around as their legs are blocked by the low table. Imho just raise the table to allow both to turn around.

    That hologram in the middle of the Bridge, do not like, that needs a re-do. Orville does not do transparent Holograms like that (not yet anyway), look again at Captain Mercers Laptop, they have a blurred background so they are NOT transparent like this, this feels a bit too much like the generic Discovery / Picard style holograms that are just some CGI crap in mid air without any logical thought put into it, i have allergic reactions to anything that even remotely looks like those by now.
    Everything else, awesome as always.

    • @TheGlassGods
      @TheGlassGods 4 года назад

      You're not wrong, and it became pretty obvious early on with the design that when it comes to practicality, there's some big issues here.
      We could consider that the crew in the pit area are self-contained, perhaps carrying out overall fleet operations, and so don't need to be within earshot of the Captain or XO, but that doesn't solve the issue with the command crew being able to talk to the rest of the Bridge crew. You could potentially solve that with some sort of amplified communication system within the Bridge, but it's still not great.
      We actually had a second concept that split this space between 2 different rooms, with a smaller Bridge being at the front, and a seperate CIC being further back. The only reason we went with this approach is that, whilst being relatively impractical, retains the design scheme seen on the show pretty well, it feels familiar. In effect, we overemphasised familiarity over practicality.

    • @johanwittens7712
      @johanwittens7712 4 года назад

      @@TheGlassGods Well some tips: you can functionally separate the room, without actually creating 2 rooms. Simply by how the functions are placed you can create two areas.
      The pit area might be better if it's moved back, so that the command chairs can be moved forward closer to the pilots stations. If the pit is in the back of the room, and it's surrounded with more stations on the "normal" level, you automatically create two 'zones' in the space, without actually creating two rooms...
      You could have a more compact, Orville style lay out in front for the command staff, and a support and secondary area in the back. Same large room, yet two distinct areas that work efficiently on their own and also can work together on more peaceful exploration missions...
      Sorry, I'm a teacher so I can't help commenting and offering possible solutions. The current design would already be a pass in my class, I'm just convinced it could be even better... 😉👍
