brilliant videos Jessica i love watching you paint you are so cheerful you cheer me up
Jess, this tutorial should be essential viewing for anyone who wants to experience some new creative ideas, especially someone like me who has been away from painting for some time and has forgotten so much. From your comments, you seem to have an attentive audience there. The information content of your presentations is phenomenal; as well as a fine artist, you are a natural teacher. It is a long time since I have actually laughed during a lesson... and the result is remarkable. I'm just off to get my journal to take notes. Many thanks.
That's so kind of you, Bob! Thank you! I really appreciate it! we have more videos that we offer, through our web site, www.renaissancecreativearts.com we are also launching an online art academy, in the next couple weeks! I've been planning this for over 12 years~ Cant wait to get started!
This is very cool. A wonderful way to make an abstract background to add some interest to a simpler subject. Thanm you for sharing.
Am I glad I found you on RUclips. I've watched two so far and plan to watch them all!
Your smile is essence in all your videos and your art just confirms that

Dear Jessica. I have just come across this ... just Fabulous 🥰🥰🥰 what enormous fun. I was just getting a bit stuck, and I think to have a play with this, will help hugely to unblock the stickiness 💕💕💕
Great, Liz! Glad you enjoyed it!
I love it how your turn to the camera and instinctively keep painting. lol. Thank you, this was very helpful.

You are truly inspiring Jessica. I've struggled with oils, fearing mistakes. Though I've enjoyed the challenge it's never been FUN for me. After watching your video I'm going to step into a new me & just have FUN. Thank yo so much, from Australia

Thank you! I have been getting quite a few requests to come to Jerusalem, I think it'd be fascinating! I'll look into it!
I've just discovered your channel and I love how you seem to have a mystical staircase building up in that background. I agree with everything you have said about oils I have been using them on and off for around 20yrs they are so forgiving.
wow, amazing job. I’m working on being more “carefree” with my work but i’m definitely struggling with that. You have an amazing personality, thank you
Thank you! Yep! Have fun!
Thank you! Yep! Have fun!
That's really cool! I can't believe how versatile oils are...splashing, wiping, completely revamping things. I'm going to have a friend show me the basics and give oil a try, hopefully. It's always seemed so intimidating.
Wonderful! They really are versatile and forgiving. Enjoy!
Beautiful , lovely voice.......and smile..
During the mid 80s I used oil to paint Bucks wading through the shallow marsh ponds at the edge of the cypress bay heads. I would paint the scenery on cypress clocks and cypress tables for my father in law. I would paint in a multi layer fashion as he would apply coats of the clear thick acrylic resin. It gave a 3-d effect and you could see the background behind the deer from the side. The hunters would buy them up as fast as he made them. The oils has a tendency of a natural, subtle display of color. Having a few flashbacks from long ago. Great video Jessica.
That sounds so cool! Thanks, Larry!

U r an wonderful artist and also u r beautiful
I swear, Ms. Jessica... I can’t decide whether you, or your paintings are more lovely... 😊
I have learned (& hope to continue learning) SO MUCH from you, & while I know this one is a couple years old, I still love watching your work develop! I was *hoping* to get your opinion of using lead white for portraits vs titanium &/or the now controversial zinc... I’ve just started using cremnitz, & I hafta admit that I love it! Do you have any experience with it? Does the Gamblin lead replacement REALLY work? Anyhoo... hope one day I can show ya some of my work too! I am nowhere near as amazing as you are, but I still love to try!!!
Love yer vids & always looking to learn & expand...
Your friend in VA,
Wayne
Thanks so much Wayne, I haven't tried zinc white, but have stuck with titanium white for 31 years. I never saw a reason to change, it's the tried and true white. I'm not sure about Gamblin's lead replacement. Sorry I couldn't help~
Great tutorial.
Donna Ireland thank you Donna!
And then BAM focal point!!!
Hi Jessica, Love your video's! You said in your video that you use retouch varnish if you can't wait 6 months for the oil paint to dry. Is it made by Krylon? And, Is it a spray or do you apply with a brush? Also, is it a gross or semi gloss? Thank you again for your video's.
awesome
Can you get the same results with acrylic paint? I think your using oil.
First time I've found your page.
Thanks Jean, You could definitely try! There are some mediums you can get and pre-mix with your acrylics to slow drying time and overall, I'd just play with it- a little trial and error see what happens!

Are your paintings on canvas or panels? Do you make your panels? Or buy them? If so where is the chapels place to buy them😀? Why do you think artists are painting more on panels, the cost of canvas? Just a few questions, thanks😊🤓
I meant where do you buy them?
Sandra Powers She buys pre-primed, unstretched linen and glues it to wood panels with Ph Neutral Adhesive. I can't remember where she buys the linen from.
Just looking at Laura Senchucks comment on paint not binding well if you thin it to much
and also the problems you can have breathing washes of paint even if you cant smell it
you can of course use Acrylic for large washes and back grounds it is more or less harmless
then do your detail with Oils .
Nice panting
I do want to point out that this procedure is not going to be in anyway archival in the long run. Adding this much OMS to your oil paint causes the paint to be under-bound. You also said in another video that The OMS doesn't bother you as far as smell since you can't smell it. It is however as dangerous and possibly more so than Turps because you can't smell it. People assume that if you can't smell it that it is safe. It still has petroleum distillates and has warnings that should be heeded. Good ventilation is key or if you are like me with a super power of smell, I can't use it at all without breathing issues. I use Lavender Spike oil (not essential oil) to thin my paint for under paintings, toning and initial block in drawing. It is very safe to breath and has no warnings and actually smells wonderful. It is however powerful and is just as important to not over thin your paint causing later adhesion issues of paint layers.
Well, with nearly 30 years painting experience, I've never seen this process have adverse effects. It's basically a fun way to tone a canvas, with thicker layers applied over that, then some splashes and dribbles. There's no problem with archival integrity. As with any painting process, good ventilation is key.
You are really beautiful not only figure but angelic spirit too
I wish you the best always
Thank you!
