    It's good to see you back. I've been painting for over 20 years and I still find something new to learn, not so much about style but the nuance. The things you see, not necessarily what is said. So thank you for all I (we) have learned from you over the years. 😁

    A very difficult subject and composition. You did a great job of taking a boring and dull scene and making a wonderful study. Great handling of color and values in a low chroma and close values scene.

    Thank you Jessica, and always love your clear explanation. I like your idea of laying in shapes at the start...a great way to 'leap into" the painting...imagine it helps to keep the work loose too? Another beautifully captured scene! Inspirational!! Again thanks.

    One advantage you have over other painters is that your name ends in a color. I searched for atmospheric grays and found you 😅

    I’ve been a realism artist for like 20 years, it’s hard for me not to see the detail when I want to do a simple, loose plein air style painting

    Is there any solvent free solution for underpainting? Not gamsol or OMS please they are toxic indoors

    Will you add anything else to your painting when you are home or is it a finished painting. I find your work inspiring. I don’t use oil paints,(don’t know how to) I wonder if acrylics would work in a similar way.

    • @JessicaHenry
      @JessicaHenry  19 часов назад

      @@christinebrown9310 thanks Christine, no, that was all I did for that one. If I enlarged it in the studio, I would have added more greens in the distant banks to create more interest in the depths of the painting. I’m sure acrylics would be similar, just takes some practice to adapt. ☺️

    I am new to using gouache and wonder if these oil painting techniques would work with gouache (I haven't ever used oil paints)

    • @JessicaHenry
      @JessicaHenry  13 дней назад

      Gouache dries considerably faster than oils and so the technique would vary a bit, but that’s a minor issue. I’ve seen gorgeous Plein air studies done in gouache. If you were concerned about the speed of drying with either gouache or acrylics you could get a retardant. Old Holland makes a good one that I’ve had success with. You just mix a bit with each color prior to painting. Either way, have fun!
