.It is currently 3:35 am and I'm in my studio watching an art video. I received two different busters shots on Wednesday and for the past two days, all I've wanted to do was sleep. So now that I am awake, I thought it would be a good time to watch this video. There is never a wrong time to learn something new, whether it's in life or painting. I would like to express my gratitude to Clare for making all these videos available. I have been watching her videos for a few years now and they have been very helpful in my artistic journey.
Hi Jim! Thank you so much for your support! Very happy to share 👏. Do you follow me on Instagram as there are some short videos on there you may like. 📽clarebowenartist❤️
A lot of painters would get lost with the range of colours you have on your pallet but you manage to still create the subtle subject in front of you. I imagine you expected the sunrise to be more colourful when you laid them out but it shows you are true to what is front and can mix colours superbly.
Thank you Clare for sharing this wonderful video. I enjoyed watching your color mixing and bold approach. Such dedication of packing and mucking about at that hour of the morning. I have subscribed to your videos. I look forward to seeing and learning more about your style.
Love your paintings and gives me some inspiration in my art work, I'm currently experimenting with oils for landscapes and the way now you bring your paintings to life on canvas is inspiring and learning thank you for creating these videos 👌👌
Nothing better than to hear your thoughts as you create that scene, braving the cold and getting absorbed into the scene. Thank you for sharing this moment, the painting is full of your emotions you felt while creating it. Truly a great painting, I love it. Best wishes, I have subscribed.
Clare, this was absolutely wonderful information! You did a lot of us with all of the equipment and explanation of color choices. Your work is beautiful, too. Thank you thank you!
Not only am i impressed by your painting talent but the production equipment in itself is also impressive, i hope you have help and hopefully that person keeps the tea hot and plentiful. Thanks for sharing
Hello Clare, I just came across this video of Bosham, West Sussex, UK. And wondered if this is Bosham Hoe? I have also painted a landscape view of Bosham village from across the estuary. But much closer to the village scene and the church on the opposite side of Creek. This is a beautiful area for artists. I love how you have chosen this scene, and the colours you have selected to great effect. I love scenes like this that are subtle, but full of that tranquil nature too. I noticed as you were painting, how the change in light brought out the seagulls, which were circling around in the lefthand forground. All in all a very lovely painting. Thank you for making this video. I am inspired to visit this scene again. 🖌️🌞😀👍💯
Lovely painting! Like video and how editing was done. Today I saw Artist of the year episode where you were one of the participants. Enjoyed it as well.
Absolutely brilliant Clare, great camera angles and commentary. The professional equipment makes such a difference. Great painting of course, what a stunning subject.
You are an inspiration. Interesting that you dont pre-tint your canvas .. I do, but never feel right about it! Not gonna do it anymore 😄 If you ever want to paint in the Dordogne..I live here.
Hello, please let me know your name 💫I occasionally use a tinted board maybe for a sunset. I find the colours are cleaner and brighter on a white board but you do have to work hard at covering the white as when it shows through the painting it can be distracting! Nice offer re the Dordogne, it’s a beautiful area. Thank you 🙏 best wishes Clare
Ff, this is 5 * * * * * The painting is absolutely amazing! Your commentary is perfect! The location is stunning! The video production, top notch (still don't know how the camera's don't put you off?!) Well done 💯❤️
The sound went in and out a bit - perhaps that's my internet connection rather than your recording - but a very enjoyable video to watch, and a lovely, restrained, quiet painting.
it is a great demo before sunrise , you must put lofs of effeots into this video, also I wonder how Turner will do such plein air, he does not have those equipments we have today
Such a useful video. It really helps having a clear commentary about the process of applying the paint and the decisions that are taken. Thank you! Could you say what make of oil paint you are using and do you thin it at all with turps or oil to make it flow more easily off the brush?
Thank you Pamela I’m really pleased the commentary is helpful. I use just turps to thin the paint. And the makes of my paints are winsor & newton, Michael Harding, jackson’s Art. I could do a video at some point explaining about my colours?
@@ClareBowenArtist I especially liked the color missing commentary! And I’d love a video focused on your palette. Is this your typical palette? From watching your other videos it seems to be. I’m curious about the permanent rose- is that in place of alizarin crimson? I have a Naples yellow that I’ve never used and now I want to try it with my palette 😊
Hello, yes I use a lot of complimentary reds in my greens. Varying the reds used too - from Burnt Sienna to scarlet red. Does work well int he foreground.
Good Morning, Claire. Lovely painting. Thank you for sharing your process for plein air painting. It was so lovely to watch. May I ask please about the little palette tray you use? What is it called, and the brand? How nice to be able to just pop it onto your pochade and start painting. Thanks again for the video.

Kellie, I made one from a piece of L shaped angle profile (can get metal or plastic) from b&q. They come in 1m lengths so need to cut to size. You can then add rubber feet or even Velcro to allow it to sit nicely on your palette. Works a treat.
