I hate that so many people pay attention to only the Map theme and ignore the rest. Diving and Atoll are incredible, Atoll in particular doesn't even sound like it should be possible on SNES hardware.
This soundtrack was ahead of its time. I've listened to this far too many times than I care to admit, it's one of the best ambient pieces of music I've ever heard.

I also absolutely love "High Score" from the cancelled Green Lantern game. I only wish that track was longer, it's just so damn catchy and the first 35 seconds are incredible! I came across the map theme on SNESDRUNKs video of relaxing SNES music. After listening to the whole OST I have to say this is one of the best I've ever heard from the snes. Great work.

Don't know much about music making, but one of these days I need to learn how to use something like Ableton so I can convert some of these SNES soundtracks to arcade sound. I like to hear what Mission Theme 02 sound like through the Yamaha YM2151 chip.
Two years later and still listening to this soundtrack. The Waterworld movie soundtrack is one of my all-time favourites, but this SNES soundtrack doesn't need to hide behind it.
I used to think that only the Sega CD could push out fantastic sound via RedBook. I then listened to vegas steaks and the pebble beach golf soundtrack, and now this. Making an oceanic soundtrack is simple on paper but takes a tremendous amount of work to output properly. The Ecco The Dolphin series is a fantastic example. This even counts the Sega Genesis version too. You've given me a new binge soundtrack to listen too. Thank your for caring about your work.
My favorite soundtrack on the SNES! I love it so much I once ripped samples from the spc to write my own chiptune song with them. Your really pushed the SNES audio to its limit and did amazing job with this. Thanks so much for uploading.

This was so chill for a video game OST. It's all like deep house and lounge. The game and movie weren't that well received back in the 90's, but I still love the music for both and now they're totally classics.

Someone showed me the Map theme and i loved it. It's been a bit but i decided to check out the rest fo the soundtrack. And i swear to god, if you told me that one of the greatest soundtracks on the SNES was from a movie licensed video game. I would never have believed you. But here we are and It's not hyperbole to say i genuinely believe this is one of the greatest soundtracks on the SNES if not all of gaming.
Waterworld and Soukaigi, two below average games with some of the most incredible soundtracks from their consoles (SNES and PS1 respectively). Amazing work sir!!!

Half of my life i was listen to simple punk ock tracks, but this...every pad, every synth guitar bend, every tempo change is so in balance - if feels like wanted breath of fresh air. People talk about SNES composers and they'll bring up Nobuo Uematsu, Koji Kondo, Yasunori Mitsuda, David Wise... they usually don't mention Dean Evans, and it's a crime they don't. Gorgeous soundtrack, thanks so much for uploading and letting us shower you with praise. A technical and artistic achievement worthy of standing among Chrono Trigger and Donkey Kong Country. I have had the Atoll theme stuck in my head for the past week and it's massively improved my life.
I never consciously went out of my way to copy that, but I cannot deny that the initial few bars are very similar. One thing I always did try to mimic though from Pink Floyd was David Gilmour's unique guitar playing style and sound.

I was briefly skeptical that maybe this was an upload of the original uncompressed music files, but then I fired up the Super NT and NOPE it really does just sound that good! WOW. Dean how in the WORLD did you coax audio this crisp out of that creaky SSMP chip? Were you able to get a larger allocation for samples, or are you doing some sort of ad-hoc synthesis? Or were you just that good? ^___^ This is easily the single best audio quality in the entire SNES library, better even than David Wise's amazing work on DKC. You could slip this into a playlist of ambient electronic music and I'd never guess it was from a friggin' SNES game. Would gladly watch a longform video talking through some of your composition techniques, if you ever felt like voicing some thoughts over a few minutes of gameplay footage :D
I believe this is the source audio, as I hear the filter and phaser constantly going around, which I can't really hear in-game, so the filter must've not been translated well into the SNES upon conversion?
