I learned to use concealer instead of foundation as a teenager. I was not allowed to wear foundation, so I improvised, using concealer just where I needed it. No one knew. Not even Dad.

Me too! I was 32 when I bought my first foundation (sales person convinced me to) but I still try not to go overboard. I always used concealer where I needed it and that's that 😊

I feel like this was common knowledge when I was a teenager in the early 2000s. Women didn’t cake on foundation the way they do now. I wasn’t allowed to wear makeup until I was 15 and it was such a beautiful experience when my mother took me to MAC to buy my first makeup. The makeup artist did a beautiful job. She put concealer on the problem areas and just put compact powder and blush on my face and a bit of bronzer, eyeshadow and eyeliner and it was so beautifull. So fresh and natural. Perfect for a girl my age at the time. I will never forget that experience.

Since the pandemic, I’ve cut out foundation from my makeup routine, and stuck to concealer under my eyes and in old acne scars. It definitely looks more natural and flattering.
I agree. Since the pandemic, I have not used any foundation. Only concealer and little powder in certain areas.
I only use concealer for discolouration /acne /bumps and do my regular makeup routine (contouring, highlighter, blush...) it's been a game changer for me and I get more compliments on my appearance than ever before. 😌
Finally...I thought I'm the one who thinks skin looks better with just concealer as base than foundation..I've been noticing whenever I use foundation I feel heavy and it looks as if I've lots of makeup on but with concealer most people think my skin is glowing 😂
I do the same now. As I've gotten older I like my skin to look natural. I'm loving all the cream blushes and bronzers too. I still my Hourglass Veil setting powder and the 3 HG Finishing powders in a palette. I use a Natasha Denona stick cream highlighter which looks like a glow. I put it on before my blush.

Used to work at the VS beauty counter, young woman came in with her family and near perfect skin but wanted a full collection of makeup. I dabbed a little concealer on her and she was GLOWING. I insisted she buy just the concealer, she did and left very happy. Made my day. ❤
Soo when my eyes started getting.. Lets say "tired", I mistakenly purchased the Maybelline Simply Ageless concealer and believed it was a mini of the foundation and it looked Amaaazzinnnggg. Needless to say I was bragging to my siater how the travel size was so much nicer and as shes reading the bottle just busted out laughing and said "Ya your flawless because you're wearing Concealer as foundation!!!" 😂🤦🏻 We've both been wearing it since! 🤘🏼🖤

The last time I used foundation ooooh it's been a good couple of years. I do however want to spot conceal on days I want my skin, but better look. So I've been eyeing this concealer. The hard part will be getting a match for my skintone.
When my eyes started getting "tired" I asked my similarly aged friend how on earth can you put makeup on your face when you can't see without glasses? She replied, I just wear my contacts... Except I don't wear contacts.

I think sometimes the lighter the concealer, it gives my eyes more of a darker gray cast.

Thank you for saying concealer doesn’t have to be lighter than foundation. I have half a dozen concealers because I was trying to follow this “rule.” I like L’Oréal Infallible concealer.
Wayne has a soft voice and trustworthy manner, about him. Much like a therapist.
There's times when I've used concealer as a foundation (usually when I've needed to get ready quicker or when just playing around with makeup to then just take pics and wipe it all off 😂 we all do it!) But I always found it applies better, faster and looks nicer (just a dusting of loose powder to finish) It's so awesome to hear a Makeup Artist talking about this method! 😃
Elf camo concealer !! Only $6 and they have most shades at every drugstore. I use it for my full face and its such a gorgeous finish.
Nars and Pat Mc Grath concealers are the bomb for me

I am Indian , 38 years old. My skin tone varies from Bareminerals neutral tan to golden tan. I really like the Milani Conceal and Perfect concealer from the drugstore.

I love the maybelline fit me matte and poreless foundation. It’s AMAAAAAAZING. I love the age rewind concealer. It’s creamy but thick, idk how else to describe it. It doesn’t settle like a lot of moisturizing concealers and it’s very pigmented and high coverage without being dry.

I bought this but had a really hard time trying to open it. Can you please explain how it works? I took the sponge applicator off as I heard some people did not care for it. I have only gotten the tiniest amount out but I can not get it out to use. I feel ridiculous asking this question.
@@carolenavarro9640 you are not supposed to take out the sponge love. Turn the bottom part of the concealer anti-clockwise and the product will rise to the sponge and you can apply it.♡

No only does Wayne do close up’s in 4K, he wants to show us *real skin* therefore real results. Very refreshing considering the tendency to airbrush into oblivion. (Who needs a tutorial on Fox eye makeup when you can literally change the shape of your eyes?)

I've watched you for years Wayne but I really think you're totally smashing it with your content lately. The 4k tutorials are going to be so fab. I use Fit Me and Age Rewind concealers the most and have always used concealer instead of foundation. I've never used a high end one because they never give you a sample to try like you often can with foundation so I can't risk wasting the money 😘
Lancôme Effacernes Concealer changed the way I apply my makeup. You need a tiny TINY amount and it covers perfectly with a lightness I can’t describe. I love to spot conceal and use a tinted moisturizer elsewhere. Drugstore favorite is Maybelline Instant Age Rewind. It’s nearly as good.
I love the Lancôme also! I heard not that long ago that they may be discontinuing it, I sure hope that’s not true!

I absolutely love it when Wayne goes into things like “it was quite peculiar that I got roasted for liking the fit me foundation” but I love it & would love to hear more stories like this. I too enjoy the fit my foundation & concealer but not my favorite. I have been loving the secret brightening concealer from laura mercier, although the shade range is despicable. I don’t wear foundation anymore so I only ever buy concealer so I’m interested to see what other people have been loving lately 💜💜 As always, another wonderful Wayne Goss video
GAME CHANGER, Wayne!!! Thank you so much for this revelationary-tip!! (Upper 60’s here) and have learned that older women (and most younger ones, too)… look best with fresh unadultered skin showing. This approach diminishes the dreaded age spots on the side of the face so much better than any foundation I have ever tried and the brush that I blend it in with has just enough product on it to hit the sides of the nose to finish things off. The rest of my natural skin (cheeks, forehead, nose and chin) just get to be their natural self. I look so much better this way and ditto for my sister who tried this approach as well. Thank you so much!!!

As a French girl, concealer is our best friend. You will never catch us wearing a full face of make-up. I’ve always worn concealer over foundation, and prefer it. The skin is a canvas, the first thing every French girl learns is to take care of her skin first, then makeup later. Less is always going to be more for us. 🌹

I like the fact that concealers come in smaller bottles. I tend to throw a lot of bottles of foundation out because I just don’t use enough to finish a bottle, more than half left, before it goes off.(past expiry by a bit, lol because I missed any dates)

Wayne, thank you for this timely video! My HG is NARS soft matte concealer in the shade, Hazelnut. I saw a RUclips video last year where Naomi Campbell applied her makeup in a little over 5 minutes using all NARS products. I was intrigued because she used the soft matte concealer as her base and applied it with a good old fashioned wedge sponge. She set it with a skin tone powder and she looked flawless! I just returned to my office after working remotely for nearly a year. I find that I prefer to apply my makeup at work now and using concealer as my base saves me a lot of time. To brighten my under-eye, I use my MAC Prep and Prime highlighter pen in the shade Peach Lustre.
i’ve been using the hourglass vanish concealer lately as a foundation and i’m so mad at myself for not doing it earlier! using concealer as a base has given me the perfect color match i’ve been trying to achieve for years with foundation (and haven’t succeed).
Good thing it’s highly concentrated because it’s expensive per ounce - never thought of trying it this way, I just avoided buying it because of mixed reviews for under eyes over 40 (or 50 🤷♀️) and EVERYTHING is dry on me unless it’s Tarte Creaseless concealer (not water based).
Yes!Hourglass vanish concealer and Dior forever skin correct concealer are perfect as a base.

I have recently started using NYX’s Born to Glow concealer, and I am very impressed with how it looks on the skin. Maybeline age rewind would be my runner up at the drugstore.

My Holy Grail is Loreal True Match + Eye Cream Concealer. It has hyaluronic acid. I'm 40yrs old with very dry skin due to Covid and the constant need to wash/scrub real good after volunteering at the hospital so my skin is aging, but also dry. Very dry.
YSL Touche eclat is my ride or die. A little of this in the right spots sometimes means I don’t need any other makeup. Just love it 😍
Hi Wayne, love your videos. I have used Cle de Peau happily for 10 years. My skin is extremely dry now at age 58, yet this concealer still looks fabulous. I'm a makeup minimalist with lovely skin who uses this one product to even out my skintone on any area of my face requiring help. Thanks for all you do. I adore you.
I started doing this for work! Just concealer where needed and then a little powder all over to smooth everything together. I love how fresh and natural it looks and feels so much lighter on the face than a full beat.

My favorite drugstore combo is L'Oreal Pro-glow over my face and Milani Conceal Perfect as a concealer. I'm 44 and this has worked like a dream for my always changing skin.

SPF tinted moisturizer + concealer has been my go-to with age. I used bare minerals for years but started to feel like all over coverage settled into fine lines too much as I entered my 30s and aged me a ton.
I love fit me concealer! I started using it last week after ditching foundation and it is lovely and great price too! I like to concentrate on excellent skincare nowadays and like less makeup, so concealer is great for covering the imperfections like annoyingly rosy cheeks I am "blessed" with lol.
Finally Wayne Gods endorsed concealer as Foundation. I do that and it is just amazing!! My favourite is Estée Lauder Double Wear concealer. So stretchy and omg he just mentioned while I was typing.
I love Burt's Bees concealer.
I find that it's sheer and effective, never creases (after setting, of course), and is so easy to build up. I usually do a teeny tiny spot of concealer under each eye, pat it out with my finger, and then go back in twice more, same method.
I personally don't enjoy heavy coverage skin makeup, so this one is perfect for brightening up my skin in a very natural and sheer way. It does have good pigment as well, and melts into the skin. Does not look thick even after 4+ applications. I love it.
I love the Fenty concealers with a little powder for my daily wear. Light, quick, and it looks like my skin.

Wow! Since it’s my day off and I’m a huge chicken, I ran to Walmart and grabbed some Elf el cheapo concealer and just played around with it as my foundation and to my utter and complete shock....it looks great, even on my old 59 year old sun damaged skin. I plan to wear it to work tomorrow as a real test and to see how the low end concealer wears and if I am pleased with it’s wearability and if I am I will up grade to a “better” quality as may be needed. So far I am blown away by your genius and the reasons behind it. Thank you, Wayne!
I’ve done this same thing for years, always thought I was strange or maybe even doing my makeup wrong.
But since I only use a bit on the center area of my face and spread it outwards (adding a little extra for pimples or dark spots), it just always looked good. So I kept doing it.
And knowing that you like this technique too, Wayne, makes it seem even better. 💗
Now that I’m in my mid thirties, I cannot put foundation all over my face, and I don’t even want to. I still have really nice, glory areas of skin, and I want those parts to shine through while I’ve still got them!

My skin hates foundation so I like to put the bareminerals liquid serum concealer on my acne scars on my cheeks and a little on my forehead and it blends into my skin so well. My favorite concealer I’ve found in a really long time

I have used Bare Minerals Well-Rested as a foundation. And have used their Correcting Concealer in Light 1 also as a foundation to cover my Roseacea on my cheeks and nose,since foundation tends to slip off my nose and works like a dream! Also, itt is waterproof ! I've worn it in a pool through a workout (laps) for hours and it didnt budge! It's amazing! I just wish they made the size bigger, its tiny and costly.....💁
Yes! The Well Rested does work so well as a foundation!

@@dalidamcelhaney3834 Just the Correcting Concealer, in my experience. It is a cream with a sticky texture,but I use my fingers and it warms up. It is very pigmented and doesnt really have slip, but I just pat it on with my fingers and smooth out... Then I use a light translucent powder to set. It is tiny ,but I dont need much...💁

Elf Hydrating Camo concealer is brilliant and $6.00
My fav concealer is Pat McGrath Labs Sublime Perfection concealer. I've been doing the Bobbi Brown technique for decades: using concealer to cover and even out skin tone and only use foundation if needed sparingly. Bests results ever. Then go in with powder, bronzer, blush, brow, mascara and lips. Nothing crazy, just natural. My make up lasts all day, too! Love that you have brought this to our attention. I may drop my foundation and give this a go. Thanks!
I actually did this in my early 20’s by accident didn’t know it was concealer until later the shade was just great. I got great coverage and plenty of complements
I live by the Maybelline Fit Me foundation and concealer. My skin is quite dry, especially my under eyes. I found that the Fit Me concealers are the only ones that aren’t drying. I also use them as my foundation when I’m in a hurry. They’re great. *chef’s kiss*
How do you apply it? I find it to be drying on my undereye area and it ages me!

@@jyqx I apply a small amount and build the coverage up. I don’t set my concealers cause it makes my under eyes to get dry. I’m the Sahara desert dry type. Lol so I usually don’t set my foundation and concealer.
Also, if you have dry under eyes, I advise to not bake your concealer. That can cause more drying and will definitely age you. Just my opinion.

I've star using concealer as foundation recently thanks to you Wayne and it working well. I'm using Maybelline instant age rewind but my fav is Mac Pro longwear concealer
Paddle brushes are amazing for applying masks! I used an old paddle brush that came in a set that I never used to put a hydrating facial mask on, and have never turned back!
I am excited to try this technique with the new shape tape hydrating concealer (the regular is too much like spackle for my skin) so waiting to order that when it's up on the ulta 21 days sale
I have been using concealer instead of foundation for some time and I love it, it really looks better than using foundation on your whole face. I have tried a lot of drugstore concealers. The best ones so far for me are Catrice cosmetics liquid camouflage and my recent favourite Makeup revolution infinite conceal and define. ABSOLUTELY love those.

I have a very small tube of it concealer and love it never thought to use as foundation,I'm 62 and tried many foundations can't seem to find any that I can say is perfect,that will be my next step to try concealer
I have been using only concealer for the last year in lockdown and love jouer, doublewear and charlotte tilbury magic away. I'm 33 and think this will be the way forward for me now using only concealer unless its a special event. Love your videos 🙌🏼

Coffee Break With Dani did the 10 minute look with just using a concealer down middle of face and spreading out with a wet sponge. It works. Skin looks (and feels) like I'm not wearing makeup, but looks flawless. Maybelline's Age Rewind works well for that. That is what I'll be using through spring and summer.
Lately I've been using concealer instead of foundation just to cover up some areas of my face and I just love how light it feels. My go-to product has always been Maybelline Fit Me, but I alternate it with Too Faced Born This Way...I find both to be incredibly good, at least for me they work perfectly.
The Born This Way concealer is a fantastic deal. The product is 15 ml.
Hey honey brand concealer is the only one I can use on my skin without it just looking like a dry flaky mess, no matter how much exfoliating and moisturizing I do! It's so moisturizing, and buildable. It gives me confidence because I'm not coloring myself into someone else... it's just me, but the version I feel like inside! When I was a teenager I loved your channel and still 8-9 years later (I am almost 30 this year) and your channel is so helpful for me and your tips and advice helps my aging skin I feel like look so much better since I am getting more wrinkles I wear so much less foundation and overall less of everything I used to only want to do a smokey eye and super full coverage foundation and although I still love a smokey eye and full coverage occasionally I've realized less is more the older I get 🥰🥰🥰 love you so much I need to try only concealer as my overall foundation
During the pandemic, I started using concealer instead of my usual foundation/concealer routine for my zoom calls. And I agree - more coverage and very natural. I use Kosas concealer and I love it. And yes, I often see tutorials that encourage using a lighter color, but I’d rather have my makeup look like a more polished version of myself. Besides, being a Black person, it’s always rubbed me the wrong way seeing Black folks using makeup so much lighter than their natural skin tone.

I've been using the Estee Lauder Double Wear concealer for years now and really like it! I've tried other high end and drugstore concealers and always come back to Estee Lauder. I've been spot concealing forever because I'm lazy so thanks for confirming that's ok! The ELF Camo Hydrating concealer is a good drugstore one. Thanks for the great info you provide us! 😊🤗
I’ve used a variety of concealers as a foundation and really like the way my skin looks. I’m surprised no one else talks about it so thank you. Also, I have some redness under my eyes for which I use a tiny amount of color corrector. I also use a tiny about of concealer but it never REALLY covers the way I want it to. I never thought to use a deeper shade of concealer so thanks for that tip as well. Always look forward to your videos 👍
I have to say, I couldn’t believe how good my skin looked using EX1 concealers. I’m a light olive, always between 2 shades (no matter what the brand). So I buy two and mix them.

Whenever I try 2 shades of concealer without foundation it stands out a lot against my skin, even if the shades match. What's your secret?
@@lfrancis8980 I'm very fair so I use the lighter one, then the brightener is for undereye, center of chin, and center of forehead. 👍😃

I applied my concealer only under my eyes today because I was in a rush to head out. I came home and forgot I wasn’t wearing foundation and started playing around with my blushers and bronzers. Something about my skin looked so wonderful and reminded me of how I used to look when I was much younger. Then I remembered, my skin wasn’t covered in foundation! This isn’t a flex, normally my skin isn’t so great that I’d “forget” foundation, but I’ve been sleeping lots more and watching my sugar and alcohol intake, and something about bare skin and cheek color looks so fresh. I’m going to spot conceal if my skin is having a “good” period. I agree, natural skin is better skin. foundation has its place but appreciate the skin you have, no one sees it in 4K lol
I’m glad to hear someone else talk about how it can look better to wear darker concealer under the eyes, I realised back in my teens that it doesn’t give a grey cast at the end like a lot of lighter concealers did for me.
Tarte Face Tape Concealer. I’ve used it as foundation for awhile now. On a side note - utmost respect for you and your opinion. Thank you for everything you’ve taught me ❤️
